    3. Veggie Combination
    Candice S.

The food here is absolutely amazing. It had been years since I had tasted Ethiopian food at a restaurant in California, but I had been looking for it again ever since. Selamta's food is just as flavorful as I remember. I could eat here everyday. I do not know much about what each individual meal is called, so I am one to always try combination plates. There is a meat one that is predominantly beef, and a vegetarian option. Unfortunately, I cannot eat beef so I am limited, but my boyfriend and I order both and share. I wish so badly they had a chicken/other protein combination platter as well. It's ok, I am fully able to fill up on what they have to offer. The people who work here are always kind and efficient, and the place has been quiet the three times we have been here. I highly recommend. If you have never had Ethiopian food before, you don't know what you're missing!

SCRUMPTIOUS Ethiopian food with kind and generous staff! I got the vegetarian sampler, everything tasted superb. Can't wait to introduce more folks to the glory of Ethiopian food!

Very good! My only complaint is the hooka smoke from the bar wasn't what I wanted. We ordered the veggie platter which was AMAZING!! Highly recommended!! Every lentil and vegetable was full of a different flavor. We also got the lamb dish which was also yummy. Side note there is a fee for using a credit card

We had a great experience trying out Ethiopian cuisine for the first time. I was able to identify a lot of flavors and relate them to the Indian cooking my husband and I happily do at home. The naturally gluten free injera bread is very similar to the South Indian appams. The flavor of every vegetable on the platter was unique without having confused it with too many additives and spices. Every veggie and lentil had a distinct flavor and that stood out for me. My chicken curry looked fantastic and had a drum and an egg in it. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the egg had absorbed all the spice and tasted great but I wish the curry had some more flavor to it. I loved the veggies with injera more than the chicken and I was really surprised at this because I'm a chicken lover. They did not have chicken sambusas so we went ahead and ordered the lentil sambusas. Unfortunately, they did not taste that great as the coating was a bit raw from the folds inside but this did not tarnish the whole experience at all. Our friend decided to take the left over sambusas home to have them with tea. They have nice fruit juices and we loved our mango juice blend. It was refreshing and so good! My husband's fish platter was delicious to the core. That fish was tasty and light and was served with the most amazing mango salad. This salad was sweet, zesty, tangy and had small pieces of red onion in it and the flavors were mind blowing! The restaurant was spotlessly clean and our server was very warm. We had an enjoyable time!

Ethiopian food is one of my absolute favorites in life, and the options are limited in KC.

The indoor mini mall it's inside looks fairly new, with a nice upbeat atmosphere. I wasn't expecting to find authentic African food in Lenexa. African Dream features Nigerian specialties like fufu, and that also looked tempting, but one good meal was my objective. My server Ria was gracious and helpful. She helped me select a meal for takeout, and I had a 20-minute-plus drive to reach home, where I devoured this memorable meal (had at a reasonable price) in less time than it took to drive home. I had the brisket platter with sides (served in a takeout container). The brisket was, in a word, delicious! I'll be back for sure. The cabbage and rice dish sides were nice, too, and they complemented the brisket just fine. I'm glad that I arrived in time for the last small portion of their brisket. It looks like it usually sells out at lunch, but it's Monday and the entire food court wasn't busy. It was tender and smoky, with a light au jus style sauce. Yum. Parking was just okay on the street, and most spots were taken around my near-5 p.m. arrival, but I lucked into a parallel spot very close. My only tip would be if you're a brisket hound like me, park and arrive earlier! I shall return! (5 stars!)

We were both not very familiar with African cuisine at allllllll so we asked our young waitress for some help. She said her favorite was the peanut butter soup, so my friend got that, and I got the spicy soup, both with Fufu because we wanted to try that. My soup (it was like a stew) was really good, spicy, flavorful, and the goat meat so sooo tender and delicious. I'm always leary of goat because sometimes it's gamey and this was not! The peanut butter soup had a wonderful savory flavor as well and was so good. The fufu is a side of dough looking thing, where you eat with your fingers and dip it in the soup, is my understanding. It just reminded me of a dumpling. This restaurant was really good, and it felt like a mom and pop type shop. I want to go back and try more menu items

I waited over a hour for my food and didn't have time to check it as I was pressed for time and had to get to work. You gone make somebody wait damn near 2 hours for their food at least let the food be correct! I had already asked for a refund to where the front desk girl says your food is coming out now! I should've known how fast she put my things in a bag to tie them up, my order was going to be off!!! If I would've opened it I would've got a refund!!! The egusi was nasty and tasted burnt and had me on the toilet after taking two bites!!! The jollof rice tasted like straight tomatoes, whoever was cooking didn't even try! When you walk inside there is hardly anybody standing in the front or they're always on their phone! This once use to be my favorite spot for African food but now it's time I find a new spot!

When we told her it was our first visit to the restaurant, she took the time to carefully go over the menus with us (regular, happy hour, and drinks), providing her recommendations when we asked. Her guidance was spot-on-target! For drinks, I had a Mindful Chai and my friend had the 3-Beverage Flight (Golden Hour, Heart Says Thanks, and Tres Raices). My chai was the BEST I have ever tasted (and I order chai every chance I get!), and my friend loved her 3 drinks (she said Tres Raices was her favorite). For our food, we split an order of the Not Queso Dip and the Avocado Tostadas. We were both very impressed by how fresh the ingredients were, and the blend of flavors in each dish that created a unique and yummy taste. The Kitchen has an open, airy layout that inspires deep breathing, while the arrangement and spacing of tables still provides for intimacy of conversation and minimal ambient noise. Sofhia checked back with us several times during our meal to ensure we had everything we needed and were thoroughly enjoying our food and drink (we were!). It was a delightful meal, and we thank Sofhia, the kitchen staff, and everyone at Whole Harvest Kitchen for such a lovely time. We'll be back!!

The restaurant was clean and had plenty of seating. The walls were simply and beautifully decorated with hats, Ethiopian artifacts, and other cultural pieces, which added a warm and authentic cultural touch. They offer an extensive menu with many rich and comforting dishes. We started with Macroni soup which was a part of our main orders - included a very comforting overcooked pasta with lentils and minimal spices. For appetizers, we ordered the lentil sambusa since the chicken ones were sold out. For our main course, we chose the all meat combo platter with two sides. It included beef tibbs, lamb, and chicken, along with red and yellow lentils. Our friends ordered the all veggie combo platter, which came with red and yellow lentils, greens, cabbage, and beetroot. All the veggies, lentils and meats were served on super soft, tangy, and very flavorful injera. The beef tibbs was the clear winner among the meats. It was hearty, rich, and had a nice spicy depth. The other meats were also cooked well, with mild spices and comforting flavors that felt light and healthy. The vegetables were mostly chopped into small pieces and lightly steamed/ blanched, then tossed with salt, pepper, or minimal seasoning. The lentils balanced the plate perfectly with their mild taste and buttery, smooth texture. Overall, the food felt very wholesome, healthy and well balanced and colorful with a generous spread on the platter. The service did not feel rushed and our server was very sweet and attentive. That said, it did take about 30 minutes for the food to arrive after ordering, as everything was being prepared fresh. If they improve the wait times then it can be a win win situation for everyone. Take out can be faster option for you if you do not prefer to wait or are short of time. Overall, J & K offers an authentic and traditional Ethiopian Cuisine taste and thats why this is a must visit restaurant.

The server did not check in on us mid-meal. Also the one screen on the wall showed Ethiopian singers (love it!) and then switched to a slideshow of bible verses (that's cool if that's your thing, but it was a turn-off to me). There is better Ethiopian food in the metro. This just felt run down and like they didn't really care how our experience was.
