Breakfast Sammy

I was in town visiting and my boy said this place down the street was fire.. he wasn't lying! I was low key against that giner butter...then i had it and there wasn't enough!! Pure genius. The Sammy was also fire! The home fries couldn't have been a little more crispy for my personal taste but overall very good!! Top tier!!

Had a lovely breakfast here. Serve yourself coffee (pretty good!) and water, they also offer speciality coffee drinks and cocktails. I really enjoyed my Mediterranean scramble -- the pesto and sundried tomatoes really made it special. Good bread for the toast. Potatoes looked better than they were, I think they are just under seasoned. Would have no issue returning to this pleasant little spot to try more of the menu!

Previous reviews did not mislead; little to no wait to be seated. Friendly service and the vibe is light and inviting. Bloody Mary's were delicious and our breakfasts orders filled and satisfied; breakfast Sammy, biscuits and gravy and a side of turkey sausage. Did not disappoint.

Iced latte with coffee in the ice instead of water!

Loved how they use coffee in their ice cubes instead of water! Everyone loved their meals. I got the banana bread which was super delicious. Loved the ambiance and the service was good, but if you are in a rush don't go here, it's a little slow.

This quaint little breakfast spot was a hidden gem. The food was delicious and seasoned well. The bacon thick and crispy. With plant based and vegan option. I had the Mediterranean and I can't wait to go back for another round. My partner in foodie adventures had the 2 egg breakfast. The chai latte was perfection, not two sweet and not to spice. The sever and owner is so sweet. She even share the type of jam and where to get it.

I just recently dropped in for breakfast after a long while. It's amazing how little J&M has changed. And that's a good thing. When I first moved to Portland in 2000 I lived just a few blocks away. Consequently I had lots and lots of breakfasts here. Here's what's great about J&M: -It's not super pretentious, which, for a breakfast joint in Portland, Oregon, is saying something. Weekend brunch is high religion in this town. This place is casual and not trying to wow the pants off of you. -They have self-serve coffee, with mugs and carafes out in the open. This is great. When you arrrive, if there is a line, you can leave your name on the list and then go grab yourself a coffee before you've even been seated or waited on. This is brilliant. -The food is all decent. Not overly fancypants, but solid breakfast stuff. -Wait staff is super friendly.

Fantastic ambience! Loved by locals and run by a fantastic waitress. This was recommended by our hostel and the food was hearty and perfectly balanced. Loved sampling the local coffee too! Highly recommend

While I was in Portland recently I met up with a couple of friends for breakfast at this quaint cafe in a really cool old building. The building was incredible! I don't know what it used to be, but why the exposed brick walls and ginormous paned windows I felt like I was dining back in time. For food, I opted for their breakfast burrito with added avocado. My friends got the French toast and the waffle. While everything was tasty, I gotta say the star of the show were the crispy homestyle potatoes that accompanied my burrito. Their prices were a little steep here, though that seems to be par for the course these days. Service was friendly and fast, too. And of course, they had great coffee!

No wait on a Saturday at 12:30pm. We easily found street parking. The tofu scramble and breakfast sandwich come with perfectly crispy potatoes. I asked for no bacon with my sandwich which was subbed for avocado. The crispy grits were delicious. Service was friendly. The prices were reasonable. The bathroom requires a key (located near the water station) to enter.

Great friendly service, food choices and drinks. My scrambled garden eggs were delicious.

Full 5-star experience! Great job, Screen Door! We shared a…read morestrawberry shortcake breakfast appetizer (don't judge!) and it was delightful. Spectacular heavy cream biscuit with local Oregon strawberries and a lovely whipped cream, legit, not the aerosolized kind. I highly recommend starting your day with this. We also shared the shredded pork eggs Benedict. I liked it a lot, although I generally appreciate a bit more lemon taste in hollandaise sauce, but this hollandaise was so creamy, smooth and flavorful, I'm not mad. The breakfast potatoes served with this are very tasty - delightfully seasoned and perfectly cooked - crispy outside and fluffy inside. The coffee was very good. Our server, Jared B., was great; just enough interaction to be sure we had what we needed at all times, and as personable as he was efficient. Beautiful location that was spotless and comfortable.

We got here at 10am on a Monday, and every table was filled. It looked like they had numerous staff, but I would guess that the traffic level must be hard to manage. Perhaps because of this, my order of Sawmill breakfast was very poorly prepared. The gravy was luke warm at best. The eggs had the texture of frozen powdered egg that was just thawed. The biscuit was like a brick and hard to eat. I also saw numerous other patrons who were leaving their scrambled eggs untouched. The chicken tenders were warm and delicious, and the quiche was decent. Salad was probably the highlight. Besides that, I think the vibes inside the restaurant were very beautiful and memorable. Just unfortunate that the food was very sub par. I probably wouldn't recommend if you were trying to impress someone important.

I'm going to be thinking about those Foie Gras Dumplings for quite a long time…read more All items I tried last night at Canard were creative, flavorful, well presented and reasonably priced. The garlic fries were spicy in the best way, perfectly crisp, and served steaming hot. The Duck Stack (pancakes covered with duck gravy, onions, and a duck egg) sounded a bit odd to me (and probably many others). When I asked the server if it was good, they told me that people travel to the restaurant specifically for that dish. I'm glad I tried it. Again, very unique with a well balanced spice profile paired with the delicious undertones of a hot pancake. I know I would have never thought of that, doesn't sound like it should work, but....it worked! Service was great, atmosphere was a bit loud with a band playing next door, it was a bit overwhelming, plus a random dude walked into the restaurant and a server lit his joint for him as a courtesy(?)...stunk the place up for a few minutes, but as I thought about it, I decided that was about the most "Portland" thing I had seen all week on my trip :) I'll be going back for sure, I would love to taste through that entire menu. Did I mention the Foie Gras Dumplings? I never had anything like them in my life. That's a dish I would definitely travel back to Portland for.

They actually had a couple choices, and I got the cauliflower tinga. I don't know if it's because I had more coffee and alcohol than food in me at the moment, but it was the best dish I've tasted in a long time. Very spicy, but flavorful. Every cocktail unfolded in layers of flavors. (I tried a sip of my friends' drinks, and I had the Jazzy Aperol Spritz.) Very unique and complex combinations. Seriously, vegans--don't sleep on the tinga. I tried to order another one for the road but there was a snafoo, maybe they saw it and dismissed it as a dupe. It got figured out but was a little awkward. Regardless, I will easily give five stars because otherwise the service was lovely, and I'm going to be dreaming about this dish until I can get a babysitter and go back for a date night.

Mothers is a great place to eat downtown, but I'd recommend making reservations or at least calling ahead. They get busy! The food came out quickly, hot, and prepared correctly. All items were quite tasty. It's not exactly gourmet in terms of you taking a bite and thinking it's the best thing you've ever eaten, but it's solid. I really want to try dinner there. Ambience is busy and bustling. The beverages were however very nice, and I recently had the cobbler dessert and it looked amazing and tasted better. We had the coffee (Extracto, love.), I had a really good hef and my mother a very well balanced Bellini that I was very pleasantly surprised with trying. From what I saw, the lunch sounds very good and I'd be more apt to recommend folks give that a shot if they happened to be going there too. I'm not sure if I'd recommend as a must go stop. Vibe wise, the ambience is overall really nice. I think having rolled flatware, even with just upgraded napkins, would better complete the aesthetic you initially see and feel. This would also connect with the price point of the food and quality of the beverages. As a fellow server, on that note I would expect more consistent stronger visual appearance standards with servers. (Sorry guys! But some of you looked great!) Overall, I'd definitely join a friend for coffee and lunch over there in the future. Just wouldn't be my top pick for a celebratory brunch or intimate dinner with a date or friends and fam.

I went with the classic combat loadout: two eggs over-medium, bacon, crispy hash browns, and a biscuit with a side of country gravy... HOOAH! Execution? Nailed it. Eggs cooked perfectly, bacon thick and meaty, hash browns plentiful and done right, and a massive biscuit drowning in gravy. Mission accomplished. I left full, satisfied, and oddly respected.
