This review is about our wonderful care taker Susan Rhoades. My Mom who is in her late 80s has been battling with dementia. My super Dad, who will be 90 soon, is the main reason she's still around and healthy. But he just survived a mild stroke and physically, he's not as strong as my Mom. As their children, we spent a lot of time helping them but with dementia, it's a very difficult and emotionally exhausting ordeal to handle. We were beyond lucky to have found J&M Home care service; especially Susan. Susan is a super bright lady who has a deep sense of compassion, empathy, patience and the knowledge of the disease. Within a couple months under Susan's care, both my parents' health have improved significantly. My Mom seems so much happier and those moments of her feeling frustrated and feared have reduced significantly. With My Mom's health improving, it has helped my Dad and the rest of us feeling so much lighter and happier. What special about Susan is that, even though my Mom speaks mainly Vietnamese and Susan speaks English, the love, care, understanding and compassion Susan has for my Mom overcomes any language barrier. I am so grateful for Susan and her heart. We are taking each day we have with our parents as a blessing. We pray that Susan will stay with my parents, especially my Mom, for a while. Sometimes, God sent an angel to us in a form of a beautiful and wonderful lady! We were told to avoid bringing a family member home on hospice on a Friday, because it is difficult to find help on the weekend, and it can be overwhelming to learn and provide 24/7 care to a fully dependent non-ambulatory loved one with the one "training" provided by the hospice nurse. That advice was 99% true. The 1% where it wasn't true was J&M Homecare Services. Constance was truly empathetic to our Friday night plight, and came over early on Saturday morning to assess our needs. She was caring and compassionate and really wanted to help us. She guided me through the process and the forms. They clearly have experience working with Long Term Care insurance companies and have an easy to follow process to help you get reimbursed. She immediately reached out to her scheduling team and I received a call that afternoon trying to schedule someone for the very next day. By then we were scrambling and had found help through a family friend, but still needed someone for Monday. On Sunday their scheduling expert had found someone for Monday. They worked during the weekend to try and fulfill our needs and the four other companies we tried calling on Friday all said they'd talk to us on Monday. Monday came and our provider was great. My mother was in the final stages of the dying process and our aide helped us clean, bathe and dress her without a second thought. My mother passed peacefully soon after. Watching a loved one pass on in front of you is a very emotionally trying experience, but having last minute help made an unbearable situation feel slightly less horrible. I had only one short experience with the person who came to care for my loved one, but the effort the company put forth fulfilling our needs at the last minute on the weekend feels like an industry exception. I was in a skilled nursing facility for 14 months and decided it was time to come home. I didn't know how I was going to take care of myself, but my neice reached out on Facebook and a wonderful lady by the name of Natalie reached out to my niece and recommended J&M. She was an employee. I have never received such good care that they provide. They have made sure that I've had caregivers when needed, meals delivered, rides to the doctors offices. All of my needs have been met through this service. The caregivers are wonderful. They have become friends. I don't have one negative thing to say about J and M healthcare. They saved my life. Communication with office staff was exceptional. Worked well with any changes to scheduling. Day staff was excellent. Night staff was good as well. Just hard for family member or POA to manage night shift care person as per "staying awake" during shift hours which would be an issue for a any care service provider. I signed my mom up with J&M a few months ago now. We were looking for a caregiver to come a few times a week for companionship and some light household duties as she has some dementia. I was very happy with the care we received from J&M. My husband's condition deteriorated rapidly and we needed to put a caregiver in place on short notice. I've left the same review at Google, but I hope it will be no less important here. J&M Homecare has been helping my father with Alzheimer's for three months now, and I've been very pleased with them. They are responsive to any concerns, they work hard to get the right fit with the caregiver they send and they have optional services that have made a big difference for us. I live across the country from my Dad so I can't visit him frequently. But I get texts from his caregiver regularly, she schedules calls with Dad's brother, and she even gets him out of the house for exercise, which I know he enjoys. My father is a difficult client; he doesn't want to admit he has dementia, he doesn't want help, and he doesn't like strangers in the home for long, and yet, our caregiver and J&M in general have worked with me to make sure he's safe at home, that he's getting food, water and some good quality of life. For us, it's a transitional period until I can move him to assisted living and memory care, and J&M Concierge care services have been unbelievable helpful with that portion of my journey. I was able to get industry insider knowledge and contacts and my case manager was able to go over to the homes I was interested in and check them out, asking questions I wouldn't have known to ask. They've helped me get Dad to video appointments with his doctor, make sure the faucets he's left on get turned off, and just generally do wellness checks in addition to the regular visits from our caregiver. They inform me about his general wellness and alert me to changes in circumstances with him, which are usually not a surprise because I can see it between visits, but it's good they want to be sure I know. Our caregiver puts up with a lot from my father, and has really gone above and beyond to find him when he's decided to go out on his own, and to make sure he's eating even though he's not wanting to. He's grumpy and unpleasant and she just keeps on trucking with him. When I visit, I find everything is cleaner and better than the last time (he fights this so it's not easy to tidy up), he's still in good condition, and he's still getting food and exercise as he needs to. I don't know what we would have done without the wonderful people J&M have sent our way, I really don't. Billing is clear and reasonable and everyone at the office has been nice and helpful. Not only is she so efficient at providing care, she does it with kindness, gentleness, and thoughtfulness. Lupe's awareness of what tasks needed to be done and, her remembrance each time she was here, she went about them without being prompted. She prepared meals, did shower and hair shampoo assist along with hair styling, dressing assist, and neatening up around the house without me asking and sometimes not noticing until later! I believe her background as a medical assistant is valuable in her role as a caregiver as is her lovely and fun and positive personality, and adherence to caregiver practices. My mom recently had surgery and was going to need long term care. As I live 350 miles away in Los Angeles, and could not leave my job for a prolonged period of time, I was going to need to find in-home care. Of course I was hesitant in hiring a stranger to take care of her. I had zero experience doing this. So I cannot tell you how fortunate I felt to have contacted J&M. J&M was great. My sister was in transition with IHSS and we needed immediate assistance with home care. She is paralyzed and needs assistance with cleaning, organizing, medicine and overall just having a companion throughout day for anything she needs. Having them in the home really allowed me the time to focus on my job knowing she was being cared for. My aunt reached out to them and by the following day they came to our home and explained what they did and the process and got the ball rolling. Within days we had Mandy at our home assisting my sister. We had the opportunity to also have Olivia and Makayla in our home. All caregivers were friendly, nice and professional. My siblings and I possess the same love and compassion for our mother. As a 91-year old with dementia, my mother is confined to a residential care facility. Despite the in-residence services my mother receives, no service compares to the sincere caring and compassion of Visiting Angels. Cheryl Edwards, a 15-year Visiting Angel employee, cares for my mother like she is her very own. Each visit, Cheryl provides in mother (and just about anyone else she comes into contact with) a sense of humanity and respect often lost on the seniors in our society. She engages in conversation and other cognitive-related activities that inspire responses from my mother while also allowing Cheryl to conduct an in-depth analysis of my mother's mental and emotional capabilities. As one who worked for Visiting Angels for a couple of years, until my grandkids were born and my time was needed elsewhere, it never occurred to me to leave a review until now. My experience was nothing short of humbling and amazing. I learned more about myself in service to others and it enriched my life beyond expectations. My experience with the staff, scheduling and assignments was outstanding. In an initial interview, I was asked about my skills and preferences and they would offer me assignments that were geared toward those and also some that were outside the box. I could accept assignments or not. I loved the flexibility and the challenge. After a time, I fell into a regular weekly schedule with just three clients and I loved it! They became like family members. The San Ramon team is outstanding. This is a wonderful organization and a service that is highly needed. After my mom's back surgery in August 2018 our biggest concern was home care. She and my dad (both in 80s) are extremely independent and were not initially receptive to having strangers in their home. Visiting Angels were incredible at making them comfortable from their initial introductory meeting at the hospital to every visit to their home. They really listened to what their needs were and matched my mom up with the perfect caregiver who provided the right amount of empathy while encouraging my mom to do her PT and OT homework. My mom's recovery went exceptionally well. Visiting Angels played an invaluable role in that success. My mom is now back to her daily routine and her doctors are amazed that she's even stronger than she was prior to her surgery. Visiting Angels San Ramon office was fantastic at communicating with me. Regularly checking in to confirm my parents were OK with everything, providing updates on my mom's care and coordinating scheduling which was challenging sometimes since my parents don't have cell phones or a land line answering machine. This was our family's first time needing home care. Visiting Angels made an initially overwhelming, anxiety filled time for my mom into a positive, and very successful experience. Once again Visiting Angels saved the day! Everyone knows, you can't drive yourself home after having a colonoscopy, right? So, I arranged for an ANGEL to drive me to and from my procedure. My angel was punctual, drove cautiously (which calmed my nerves) and knew the address ahead of time so there was less for me to worry about. After the procedure was over, she met me in recovery, she had moved her car so I didn't have far to go in the wheelchair. Since I hadn't eaten in awhile I asked if she would stop to pick up lunch at my favorite sandwich shop as I am not allowed to drive for the rest of the day. She graciously agreed, rolled down the car windows so I had fresh air while she was getting my lunch. I was treated like royalty. Heidi in the office is one of the biggest Liar in the office she does all Scheduling she lies to her people that work for her and lies to the people that hire visiting angels and she has everyone in the office doing the same thing...it is a bad place if you are looking for a good place I would not recommend Visiting angels at all or try a different one you can't believe anything that comes out of there month very disappointed in the company they come to your house and put on a good show to sign you on board then it hits the fan. I hired Visiting Angels to sit with my bed-ridden son while I was away. They showed up 30 mins late, in a cab, I missed my flight waiting for them to arrive, they never called or texted to say they were running late, never came inside to be with my son, and were very rude when I told them I didn't need their services anymore. Luckily my neighbor came to sit with him while I was running to the airport. They had the nerve to charge me. Horrible customer service and unprofessional and rude caregiver. Only hire this company if you want an expensive headache. read more

My family has personally used and would recommend to anyone in the San Ramon Valley, East Bay, North Bay and Central Valley Region in Calif, to use Visiting Angels. During the early phase of my Dad's dementia, my Mom had surgery. She was not ready to consider having my Dad moved to a full-time care home, so we interviewed several "angels" to help with BOTH of their care. After my mom recovered, she still had my Dad's favorite caregiver come to her home, she not only helped care for my Dad but could do errands for my Mom, walk with my Dad outside or do tasks in their home (i.e. light cooking). When my Mom needed a break, she could have time outside of their home knowing a safe caregiver/angel was there at a price she could afford. Kelly and Frank Miller (owners) have an incredible staff and years of experience with the needs in-home care requires. Specifically, when we were not sure how to navigate the process, Kelly answered all of my questions and provided the necessary staff to help my family understand how they could assist us when we could not be there. Their ease of administration, staff who could help us with general insurance questions, and ability to find the right in-home care giver, we felt really good about the support we were able to provide my parents. They come into your home, meet with the person in need of care, and provide you an assessment of needs. You are then you given the opportunity to interview several caregivers. This is critical because you need to see which caregiver your loved one feels safe with and that all agree is a good fit. My mother in law had an accident last October and broke her pelvis. After a one month stay in a skilled nursing facility, we knew she would require assistance with daily bathing, light cooking, and help with her daily rehabilitation exercises. We contacted Visiting Angels in Danville and received a prompt, professional response. They sent out a registered nurse to assess her care needs and quickly following our appointment, we were assigned a wonderful care giver! She had many years of experience and jumped right in to help my mother in law get right back on her feet. She helped with daily showers, exercises and light cooking! She was a fabulous cook! Our care giver helped with errands, grocery shopping, and provided a sense of peace and security while my mother in law healed and regained her independence. During our six week time using Visiting Angels, we received weekly check in phone calls to make sure we were happy with our caregiver and anything else they could provide to make her rehabilitation successful.
