We ordered delivery from Slice so this review is based entirely on the food. It was a small order but a good variety. The pork wings were really very tasty. Sweet and very tender with plenty of meat! I'd get those again for sure. Sadly this is where the greatness ends. The Paglia Fino pasta dish was just ok. Cooked well and tasted fine but it was basically a chicken carbonara which was a little confusing. The Pizza is where J & M failed. Got the 5 Meet Special and it was far from it. The crust was an abysmal failure to the greatest magnitude. Tasted like a pre-made crust. Puffy and flavorless and cooked very clearly in a basic electric oven. The toppings were very light and the cheese tasted very processed. This type of pizza is that 3AM outing when you're half drunk, you just got robbed and the guy on the corner gifted you half a box of pizza and it happened to be from J&M type of pizza. Will it do in a pinch? Yes it will if everyone chips in on the cost. Emergency pizza. Cost was pretty average for what things are going for around the Bristol area. $65 for those 3 items not counting delivery fee and tip. read more

Stuffed shrimp is most likely frozen. It is definitely not a seafood stuffing like the menu says and over cooked. Their grinders are great and the cavetelli with broccoli rabe and sausage special was probably the best I've had. Pizza needs huge improvement. If you are disabled think twice because the dining room is barely open so you are forced to sit at a high top table or raised booth which also is extremely difficult with a high chair. read more

Pros- staff is super friendly - sampler was mostly great. Fan favorite were the ribs and stuffed mushrooms. Cons- everything else But seriously, for a night that was not busy it took so long to get drink refills, the food was mostly bland with little flavor, the calamari was way over cooked, the drinks were flat. They changed their pizza sauce, new sauce has little to no flavor. And don't get me started on the building. So much water damage. The bathroom is a hazard. So small you barely fit, looks like mold on ceiling, smells strange, and fan makes loud noses. Over all, we won't be back. read more

Since J&M is so close to our house, we decided to give it a try since we haven't been there in a while. Bad decision. Went there at about 5pm and we didn't get our dinner until well after 6pm. There were only two other couples in the booths and one patron sitting at the bar so it was certainly not busy. As we were paying, the waitress explained that this was only her third night and it was obvious she hadn't received the proper training she needed. The food was below sub-par frozen, not fresh. The wine we ordered was not at all what we ordered and was returned. We had to ask for a basket of bread which wasn't delivered until after we finished our salads. I give them one star only because the waitress was very pleasant. Very run down since my last visit. If you want good Italian food, this isn't it. read more

The last time I ate here was in 2013, even though they are almost across the street from me. I was convinced to give their pizza another try, since they are under new ownership. The quality of the pizza has however remained constant over the last 30 years. It is by far the worst pizza I have ever eaten. It's "pan" style pizza, like you would get at pizza hut, which basically means you need no talent to make it. The dough is more like wonder bread than pizza crust with an edge that is hard and tasteless. That matches the flavor of the sauce, tasteless. The cheese is low quality, which means as it melts it makes everything oily. Then as it cools it gets a nice layer of congealed oil between the cheese and the sauce. Do yourself a favor as I have been for many years. Drive farther and get a much better quality pie. read more

Disappointed! We walked in and sat at the bar, the place not that busy at all and quite a few staff working. Took a while to be greeted and when we were it was like the bartender was having a bad day herself so we were not greeted with a smile. My wife ordered a cocktail special to start , and myself a dirty martini... way too much olive juice and when I asked for blue cheese stuffed olives , I received regular small olives, disappointing when drinking a martini. I also asked about the steak special if I could have the risotto instead of the potato, the bartender asked "the owner" and the answer was "no, it's too much money for the risotto and potato comes with it " made no sense to me and I was a little shocked with that answer. We still had hope and decided to order a few things to take with us. We ordered a sausage cheese pizza snd 2 half grinders. Meatball and eggplant. The pizza was good. The grinders ? A very sad excuse for a grinder. Not at all appealing and they could barely spare the meatballs or eggplant or even the cheese for that matter and on cheap bread. Waste of money. We love supporting our town and local businesses, but good customer service is a must and good food ! I honestly think they need to really take a look at who is making the food and who they hire to bartend. Sadly, we will no longer be going to J&M. A long standing mom & pop Italian style restaurant that was suggested to me by many people. After reviewing the menu online I finally decided to give it a try. I wanted this place to be great since so many people had such positive things to say but I have to say I left a little disappointed. While the menu was expansive (both online and in person) however a lot of the options were not available. The portions are huge but the flavor was lacking. The wait staff was friendly but the service was so slow. Now I will end with we were there on Mother's Day so maybe that's why service wasn't above and beyond and menu items were unavailable, but there is nothing to explain in the lack of flavor in the food. read more

The restaurant had a nice open layout with a very comfortable feel. Our menus were brought out promptly, but it took a little bit for the server to return to take our drink order. I ordered a grilled chicken Caesar salad. The chicken was thinly sliced and a bit overcooked where it was dry and tough. The Caesar dressing was not premixed and the bowl didn't really provide ample space to mix on your own. I don't know about other people, but I expect Caesar dressing to already be mixed in. One of our guests ordered the buffalo wings and he seemed to thoroughly enjoy them, but he will pretty much eat anything. Ha ha! Another 10 to take our orders. 10 more min for waters. 15 more minutes my salad came out. My wife's soup eventually came out sans a spoon. The guy who brought the soup said he would bring one. 5 min later I got up and asked for one for her. And yes, I kept checking the time. The main courses finally came out. The food is still pretty good here but the whole experience is ruined by inattentive staff. The two guys we saw working on our side kept going back to a screen in the back and talking about it and pointing at tables. If you want the food here, I would recommend take out otherwise you will spend your entire evening sitting and waiting. read more

It wasn't the worst but it was overwhelmingly lemony. It seemed as if the lemon used wasn't fresh but was bottled. The marinara sauce on the pasta? It tasted like jarred sauce and the person I was with didn't even eat it he said it was that bad. We both agreed that the french onion soup was incredibly salty. The amount of salt in the soup took over all the flavors and had us both wishing we had a gallon of water handy. The chicken on the chicken alfredo was cooked nicely and was flavorful but the alfredo sauce itself was not good. It was bland and lacked flavor. I took a few bites of the dish and the rest I asked the server to take back. I even asked if the person I was with wanted it and he didn't, he said it wasn't good and lacked seasoning. Upon receiving our check, we realized we were charged more for our appetizer than what was listed on the specials menu. Do not, do not, do not, ever go into the place if you want to have any interaction with the owner over a penny. God for bid if you ever shorten him two cents on a pizza. I have been coming into that place for 14 years. Recently they change hands and the owner will fight you over a penny. Somebody at the bar left unpaid bill and he blamed me for it and I refuse to pay, so he told me never to come back. Are usually order a pizza and maybe have clams on the half shell in a bar while I wait, sometimes I may have a Bud Light to go with it or espresso martini. Tonight he try to pin me with a tab somebody left last weekend for $55 and some change. We heard this place was not so great since moving to the area but it has recently changed management. I was pleasantly surprised with the food here. The one thing I wasn't crazy about was the pizza but i'm a pizza snob growing up so close to New Haven so if you like thick crust, you might enjoy this. I don't think the majority of the people leaving negative reviews realizes how impacted the restaurant industry is during Covid. The wait staff is impressive dealing what they have to deal with. They have to bus, bartend and serve all at the same time. Each waitress here has impressed us and apologized for the wait on food or drinks. Since J&M is just up the road from our house, we have started to come here at least once a month. The food is absolutely great! We have tried items from just about every section on the menu from steaks and seafood to grinders and pizza. The only miss would be the wings. I would suggest skipping those. The service can be right on target or a little on the slow side depending on the waitress you get. No matter what waitress you have, you will get some delicious freshly baked rolls served with oil and parmesan cheese. They are so addicting! Couple of side notes, the restaurant part is only open on the weekends. So, if you plan a trip here on Wednesday/Thursday, only the bar section will be open. It's plenty big and has booths around the outside perimeter. The portions here are ridiculously huge. I have yet to finish anything I order, including a turkey club! You will most likely be leaving with leftovers. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food and sides you are going to be getting. read more

Worst customer service I have ever encountered. We have lived in Wolcott for 25 years and have gone to J&M for as long as I can remember but after tonight we will never step foot in there again. We ordered a large take-out order for my wife's birthday, when we ordered we asked the girl who answered to swap one item on the seafood platter menu, she nicely said no problem. When we got home after picking up the order they did not do as we asked as they said they would do. The owner began screaming and swearing at my wife don't ever ask to change the menu you get what we give you. He was beyond rude, belligerent and should not talk to any person like that especially a female customer. The pizza was great and our waitress Donna almost gets J&M four stars but not quite. My beautiful wife and I go on a crowded Friday after the first long week back after the holidays and we can't get a table because there is no one to tell us where to sit. We check the lounge and it looks full, so turn around and stand in the take out line. We think the dining room is open but no one and nothing tells us it is. We decide to venture inside and stand there waiting. There is no concierge to lead us in the right direction, and no sign to tell us to seat ourselves. So there we are standing looking at the dining room, hungry and confused. Finally another patron jokes and tells us to seat ourselves and we do. As I ate my good small clams casino pizza that was served on the greasy cardboard you would put into a pizza box right onto the table, I listened to my wife gripe about the stale wine and underwhelming spaghetti and meatballs and watched couple after couple wait at the dining room entrance waiting for direction to sit, or wait for someone to seat them, confused and hungry. Benefit of the doubt.. So maybe they were just busy and understaffed as most places are these days which is why I gave 3 and not 2. In the end, better take out than dine in. 3 stars. J&M's food is incredibly delicious and always receive generous portions! I echo another review below. It's hit or miss with the friendliness of their waitress/server. One time there Fri 3/24 night, our waitress sang my name! She really tried to connect with us and checked in at our table regularly (didn't stalk) to see if all okay and actually engaged in casual conversation. We loved her!! Definitely made us feel welcome! Another time I went (Aug 6th) I was in a party of ten. The waitress was less to be desired and did not make us feel comfortable at all. She lacked patience. My (senior) parents decided not to add to their order because the waitress was inattentive, short in her responses, she visually seemed annoyed and we found her just plain rude We don't like J&M's automatic 20% tip for a large group "policy". We don't mind paying 20% tip or more -- but it really needs to be deserved! read more

My parents and I went to J and M for the second time this weekend during the Covid pandemic. We have been coming here for years. Our waitress Erica was very attentive and friendly. She was running multiple tables, addressing each customer with a pleasant tone. She is the hardest worker! Our food was hot and delicious. We ordered salads, soup, a chicken with angel hair pasta and a seafood dish. Our drinks were great! The fall inspired sangria's are amazing. The owners keep the place very clean. I called ahead to order a burger and was told it would be 15 - 20 minutes which is standard. My wife went to pick it up and said that she had to wait about 5 minutes to get it while it was sitting because the guy was on the phone with his accountant. We live about a minute away from the restaurant and by the time she came home the burger was lukewarm and the fries were soggy from sitting in the container so Long. Other times when I called ahead I had to wait for it to be made when I arrived about 15 minutes later. Excellent specialty pizzas! We love the seafood pizza which has bite size chunks of shrimp and scallops, baby clams and bacon as well as broccoli. Sometimes too much bacon, if that's possible! The crust is sturdy as it needs to be for all the toppings. A medium is only $14 and a large $16 but the medium is more than enough for two meals for two adults. While the lady answering the phone, taking orders and running the pick up window could be friendlier and more attentive, it is take out after all, so that doesn't bother me...much. My husband and I took my 82 year old mom to your restaurant for lunch today. We went in through the lounge, but she's in a wheelchair and couldn't sit in a booth or at a table because they were too high. Your waitress, Tina, took time out to open the dining room just for us. She was very attentive, never making us wait, even though she was the only one waiting tables in the lounge. Our order was taken and served in a short amount of time. She was very kind and friendly, never making us feel like we were putting her out. We greatly appreciated how comfortable she made us feel and the food was great! I've tried this place for pizza a lot over the last 10 years and it's been nothing but doughy and under cooked every single time, if that's what you like I'd highly suggest it. If you're looking for Pizza I'd suggest New Haven Pizza Company, absolutely fantastic thin crust pizza, never had any problems with them.
