Excellent sausage selection
Danielle G.

I came to J&R meats for some sausage, and they have an excellent selection! Huge shout out to Brandon, who helped me find the ones I was looking for. He was very sweet, and helpful. All the staff who work there are more than willing to help you and offer a smile. This place is awesome and we will be supporting our local butchers moving forward, rather than purchasing at the grocery store. So glad to know they have two locations too!

Plastic in sausage

The people are good and pretty easy to work with which is why I gave 3 stars. They charge over twice what national average and are the most expensive packer in America. The quality of the packing is below average as there are chronic breaks in the vacuum seals and we have found large pieces of plastic in our sausage. If you are already driving to Fresno for the harvest use a butcher out there at $1.10/lb for cut and wrap on hogs or $.80 on beef instead of $1.80 and walking in to see they are selling meat for less then you pay I processing costs and excuses on why the product they gave you is not right. They depend on over charging the people giving charitable donations at the fairs, other wise the people who are trying to make a living pay their bills.

Enjoying her treat

This place was pretty awesome! The sausage dog was bomb! They also have a wide variety of different meats to choose from and it's all fresh! I thought it was very awesome that they had treats for dogs as well. My dog is really digging that and she can be a picky eater. If you need anything for a great BBQ this is hands down the place you need to check out!

We were at a wine pick up in the village and walked by this butcher store. They had wild boar but ground. I asked about wild boar meat for a goulash/stew. I was expecting a response such as we can keep wild boar for you and not grind it for you because most customers like it ground. I also asked about venison. I explained that I have an online source but prefer to buy local. Rather than telling me they could obtain both for us on special order, we were just dismissed. We pay an enormous amount of money for expedited shipping from Texas. And the meat is not cheap. It's just bad business practice not to cater to local patrons when you have access to "exotic meats".

I stopped by to check out their selection, and I was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety they had! I ended up grabbing a filet mignon, ribeye, and some of their applewood bacon. We visit Italy twice yearly and I can say with certainty you will NOT find more authentic italian meats and cheeses than you will at Alle-Pia. Their Prosciutto, direct from the source in Parma, Italy, is by far the best and tastiest you can buy on the central coast and their Copa, which they make themselves locally, is absolutely delicious. As far as cheeses go, their truffle pecorino is literally to die for. And anyone who tries Nduja for the first time will get hooked on it. I first experienced this Calabrian delicacy in Tuscany on pizza and was super stoked to see that Alle-Pia makes their own as it's extremely hard to find outside of Italy. Eric, who works there, is super nice and helpful and will always give you sample slices of whatever you're ordering. He also makes fantastic handmade crostini himself. And when Tess is working their (the daughter of the owner), I enjoy getting to speak some Italian with her. All in all I can't recommend this place highly enough to buy your authentic Italian products. Between Alle-Pia and Etto, we're pretty much set.

When I think of Harris Ranch, I think steaks. That's it. Never would I have thought their bakery…read morepumps out some delicious pastries and desserts. The bakery is part of the country store, which sells such random housewares and souvenir-type stuff. They have a chocolate truffle case on one side and the other side, the pastries and desserts. The pastries looked delicious and I got a few to try. They also have bags of day-old cookies for a good price. Eclair 4/5* I'm not a huge fan of eclairs with the soft fudge on top instead of the hardened chocolate. Taste wise though, it was a good eclair. The cream isn't overly sweet and the eclair itself was a light dough. Napoleon 5/5* If there's something Harris bakery does right, it's flaky pastries. Surprisingly, this Napoleon stayed crispy the entire drive home and survive even in the refrigerator the next day. Many others I've had usually get soggy, but these layers of puff pastry stayed crisp to the end of every last bite. The cream was fluffy and not too sweet, and paired perfectly with the ripe strawberries. Banana Cream Pie 3/5* I love anything banana and just had to get it when my eyes landed on the perfect swirl of whip cream covered in chunks of buttery crumbles, atop a neat little mini pie. However, the pie itself was too mushy. The crust was soggy, with the smoothness of the banana cream, soft banana slices, and rich whip cream, everything combined was too much mush. It was also too sweet. I did enjoy the crumble on top though. That was the only saving texture. Strawberry Cream Horn 5/5* Wow these were so unexpectedly delicious! The horn is super flaky and delicate, filled from end to end with a light strawberry cream. On top, bits of dehydrated strawberries were not only beautiful but added a nice tartness and texture, contrasting with the silky cream. This was a great upgrade on your classic cream horn. Chocolate Chip Cookies with Walnuts 3/5* Nothing special. They tasted better the longer they sat out because they were crisper. I prefer my cookies to have sea salt for that good balance of salty and sweet, but these cookies were just one noted. Next time, I have my eyes set on this towering cake they had on the counter and of course, take home some of those yummy cream horns.

Highly disappointing to see the Country Store as of late…read more We have been going to Harris Ranch for as long as I can remember and I am 52 years old. It feels like our home away from home as we go back and forth from Northern California and to visit our family in Orange County. We always LOVED seeing the store and its unique gifts that filled the entire place. For some time, there looks to be maybe a quarter of what they used to have. So sad... I used to come and find a lot of my Christmas gifts for people during the holidays. This past Christmas, I went in and the place looked desolate. I was confused and wondered if I missed it all? I don't know if Harris Ranch is not doing well, but it really looks like they're struggling if you look at the empty feel of the store. We just left the shop now on our way back down to Southern California and once again shocked and highly disappointment. It was bad.. I really hope that whatever happening there gets better so that the store can return to the gorgeous shop that it once was.

The meats are always fresh and I usually spend way too much even when I say "can we go to Family food mart? I promise I'm not gonna get a lot this time." I'm a weak, weak woman. This little meat market is always clean, well staffed, carries good quality meats, and the prices are great! . I remember when it wasn't as popular as it is now. I was surprised to see how busy it was today. It didn't take long though cause they had lots of meat guys working behind the counter. They have a lot of cool stuff too. I even got some of their famous aprons and a ball cap. You get to spin the wheel with every $300 purchase, so I got 2 spins and ended up getting even more stuff than I imagined. They also give scratchers I think for every 3 lbs of meat or per meat basket and you can win more free stuff. If you're into meat, like I am, and you're looking for a high quality and a good price meat market you need to make the drive out here. You won't be disappointed. The guy then looks at us standing there with no meat in our hands and asks if we'd placed our order yet. Not yet, we answer in a clear, slightly louder than normal voice. Still not even the slightest acknowledgement that we're even there from any of the employees. The guy apologizes and I respond with tutti a posto since I don't speak Spanish.
