Wondering if they've stopped seasoning their meat in order to cater to the demographic here in Atascadero.... Especially the carne asada I mean apart from having so much fatty meat, it had no flavor. The service is always great too, just a little disappointing. When I'm talking about flavor, especially for $4 a taco, I expect a hint of garlic, salt, pepper, lime, etc. I expect the meat to be marinated and flavorful. Maybe they already do that, given they do sell amazing carne preparada, but the hot food just hasn't been the same for the last 3-4 times I've gone. I like supporting local mexican businesses so I continue to go but today might've been my last. I don't think I'll be driving from Slo to Suprema Meat Market for their hot food again. The cold and prepared meats are of high quality though so this review is strictly for the hot food. I understand that they need to stay competitive with the market, but the total for 5 bite sized tacos was $22.... That's insane. For $4 a taco, I just expect more. I hope they review this and implement some change! I see that the owner reached out and I appreciate his response. Maybe I'll give it a try again.

All 4 of us ordered the Tri Tip sandwiches. The tri tip was very flavorful! probably the best tri tip I had ever had. TH=here was some good smoke flavor in that meat. Sliced very thin, it was so easy to eat. No fighting the meat. Bread was buttered. BBQ on the side was Sweet Baby Ray's. I found that the BBQ sauce took away from the sammich, so I did very little dipping. If I come again, which I hope I do, I will order that sammich, but prepared in the same manner in which they prepare the roast beef sandwich. We took some chile verde sausages home to try, and those have a strong and memorable chile taste. For people who do not like spicy, beware. For the rest of us it is a satisfying burn. It is a pork sausage. Wife denied the purchase of the blackberry habanero sausage, so I will be left wondering about those. We also grabbed their pesto mayo. We will be trying that this week. I think I would have liked it on my tri tip sammich. I love pesto on anything. Place ain't cheap, but what is?

I learned to check the website for current availability and prices before getting too excited about a particular cut or item, as they sell out of some items very quickly. Also, to avoid any sticker shock of higher-priced meats (well worth the cost if in your budget, IMO). I love the scenic drive alongside the morros and the olive trees out front (off the main campus)--plenty of parking. Friendly students greet you and are there to answer questions. There is usually an assortment of items on the front table (such as any produce in stock, flowers, etc), then make a right into the cooler room, where you'll find the refrigerated and frozen meats, cheeses, and eggs, as well as jams, chocolate bars, and some cute merch. They have little shopping baskets to carry your haul. We have really enjoyed their frozen chicken wings, all the steaks, the pork chops and loin, sausages, and ohhhh, the bacon (plain, flavored, and ends). On a trip in late April, the eggs were $5.75/dozen, which I thought was a good price for the bounty of happy hens and quality, fresh eggs. Meat prices vary and are mostly priced by the pound. On this trip, the fresh top sirloin was $13/pound and a gorgeous cut with just the right amount of marbling. Fresh pork loin chops were $7.00/pound, with a small fat cap. The tri-tip is usually a little higher than Ralph's but there is a difference that may make it worthwhile if it fits in your budget. Sometimes the frozen items of the same meat are a little less per pound than the fresh. The Swiss sausages were $10.50 and Bratwurst were $10 per pound (four sausages per pound). We also love their real beef snack sticks ($8, and no weird ingredients). I also indulged in the beautiful flower bouquet, $16 -- which are still as fresh as can be four days after purchase. They also have a rewards program, so you can get a "VIP discount" of 15% after three visits, among other rewards. Look for sales of items on their website (for example, last weekend the chicken wings were 10% off). Yay, go Mustangs! We've been trying to buy from local farms, and this is a great option for SLO County.

The pork was soft and juicy with a few crunchy edges, the carrots were tangy, the bread was fresh and not tough and kept good balance with the amount of sandwich filling. 3.5 STARS HELLO,…read moreMEAT SWEATS! Escaping the 4th of July warzone in The City, we headed to Carmel for a quiet staycation. The Carmel food scene tends to be mid and overpriced so I was in search of more affordable, local gems in Seaside and Marina areas. And...TikTok brought me to The Meatery, a boutique butcher shop and eatery. BUTCHER SHOP Array of ethically sourced meats - amazing looking marbled steaks, pork, veal, and handcrafted sausages (Mmm, blood sausage and fermented garlic sausage!). They also have house-made sauces and spice blends, condiments, compound butters, duck fat, and more. There's even fresh dog food (e.g. beef sirloin, brown rice, and blueberries) which I bought for my dogs. EATERY Made-to-order sandwiches and BBQ (brisket, pulled pork, ribs, etc) in the hot case. House-made sides (potato salad, mac salad, and kimchi) are available in the cold case. Bottled drinks including beer available. You can order ahead online but we ordered in-person. Note: Check Toast for the most up-to-date prices; the online menu has the old prices. There's about 6 tables for dine-in. Self-serve water. Bus your own tables when finished. F O O D * 18 Hour Smoked Brisket Sandwich ($18): https://tinyurl.com/rceamucw - Requested mix of wet/moist and lean brisket A signature item, the brisket sandwich was sorely disappointing. While I enjoyed the fresh, soft bun, tangy cola-cola bbq sauce, and acidic pickled onions, the lean brisket was very dry and tough (at opening time). * Calamari Steak Po'Boy Sandwich ($18): https://tinyurl.com/yn7zsvz6 The unique coastal twist on a New Orleans classic sounded promising on paper. The sesame roll was light and fluffy, and the slaw had a delicious creamy tang. Unfortunately, the thin, fried calamari steak was dry and chewy, while the heavily salted breadcrumbs overwhelmed its delicate flavor. * Dino Beef Rib ($21.50/lb): https://tinyurl.com/j8dsxnvc Eyeing this on another table, we decided to order it after trying the sandwiches. Def the highlight of our meal - the beef rib was rich, tender, and deeply savory. Not overly fatty with a crispy bark. Light on the seasoning and smoke so the tangy BBQ sauce came through for a boost of flavor. * Wedge Fries ($8) Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the wedges were dusted with their house seasoning mix (savory w/ a touch of smoky flavor) and served with a side of their fermented chipotle ketchup. * Kimchi Cucumber ($7.50) A blend of napa cabbage and thinly sliced cucumbers, the kimchi was mild and tangy. The perfect acidic in-between bites. S E R V I C E Warm, friendly service. Food came out fast. Overall, maybe we visited on an off day for the eatery. I can see why The Meatery is a local fav for their butcher shop tho. I mean, if I lived nearby, I would be all over 'em sausages! P.S - 3.5 stars rounded up for a small business.

Whenever we've historically been in (Paso) town, we try to stock up on their cheddar-jalapeno pork sausage. Folks, the sausage is just fantastic after cooked over an open flame/coal fire. We also relied heavily on J&R Natural Meat and Sausage customer service to resupply us via overnight mail. We did these methods of resupply for years and never had a problem. Then Sinton & Sons took over. We ran out of our supply of cheddar-jalapeno sausage, and I called S&S up. I was assured that the same recipe was being performed for the sausage and that mail order would continue to NOT be an issue under the new ownership. I ordered a small batch of about 5-6 packets, just in case quality had dropped. Days went by and I saw my payment method had not been charged... I called back. Whoops, sorry, we found the order request, it will be handled ASAP I was told. Days pass, no charge. Another call. Whoops! We're NOW out of shipping boxes! We've got the order, and as soon as the boxes come, it will go out ASAP! Days pass, no charge, no box of sausages. Luck would have it we needed to make a trip to Paso anyway, so off to S&S Wifey and I went. Ambiance: I was a little worried when I saw the "J&R Natural Meat and Sausage" was still up outside, and a temporary banner for Sinton & Sons was above the door..... we went inside and found stocked meat cabinets, although a few less choices than before when it was J&R's. But then we found our go-to cheddar-jalapeno and bought some to-go. I've subsequently cooked a couple of them up and the good news is that the sausage is still on-point! We bought a fabulous tri-tip as well, and all the supplies from S&S cooked up nicely and tasted great! I'm hopeful they'll square away their over the phone/remote customer service corrected so we can give them money for more good stuff soon!

Good selection of meats. Bought one of the best ribeyes I've had in a long time. Great staff tooread more
