Here we go, As you know Atlanta is one of the hottest places to go for great food. Well, this place is one. They have multiple locations, but this location is where the crowd goes, and most of all their food is fantastic. Even though we ordered online this particular location was 20 minutes away, the line was out the door and people were still coming to pick up and order food. It was after 10 pm. That says a lot. My daughter recommended this place. I tell you the food was finger-licking good. I ordered the jumbo shrimp with whiting fish, and fries. My daughter ordered chicken wings, fried okra, perch fish, and hush puppies. OMG, the hush puppies were amazing. The shrimps were huge. The fries were ok. But there was this white salty powder that you sprinkle over your food that gives the food an extra kick. We also had homemade lemonade. Yum yum. Amazing food. As far as the decor it's just a simple restaurant with a whole lot of good eats. I was so full I didn't even bother by getting dessert but I heard great things. I was across the street at the mall and could smell the food from there. I'm a fan of the chain, and once I saw the parking lot was packed at 2pm on a Thursday afternoon, I found parking space to maneuver my car into and went and got in the line to place my order. The line was practically out the door. I went with my usual 10pc shrimp and 3 chicken wing combo with extra hush-puppies minus the fries and I had eaten 2 of the chicken wings before I was able to pull out my parking space. JJ's is a STAPLE in the hoods of Atlanta. I'm rarely in this area, but picking up a friend who lives in this area, brought me to the same exit as JJ's, so we HAD to go. The Service: Expect to wait because this place is just that good. When I came to this location, the lady who took my order was courteous, which was quite surprising due to the amount of people and the time of night. I commend her. The Atmosphere: This location is one of the larger JJ's I've been to in Atlanta. Even though we were ordering to go, a good bit of tables were taken. The line was long, but it moved very quickly. We waited about 20 minutes for the food to come out. The Food: We ordered 30 shrimp for $14.99 and 10 Fried chicken wings for $9.25. Both meals came with TONS of fries. Words can't explain how good this food was. I highly suggest grabbing some of their hot sauce, because it makes EVERYTHING that much better. Overall, I'll always come back to JJ's. With about 7-8 people working behind The counter it seems as if they have some sort of system...organized chaos...with customers crowded by the pickup station. While I wait...I would like to let management know Shrimp is both singular & plural but I can understand putting an "s" at the end to ensure customers who may not know this that they will receive more than 1 shrimp. Other than that, the food was pretty decent. Wanting fried fish I think this will be your closest bet in ATL outside of your own kitchen. The combos come with 2 slices of bread, fries, and a can soda. Enough food to last a couple days that's for sure. The tilapia and wings combo came with 3 whole wings and 2 nice sizes of fish. This is the third location of JJ's I've been to, and while the menu is the same as the others, the taste isn't. I'm gonna give this a 3 off the strength of JJ's as a whole, but this location deserves a 2-2.5. I hadn't eaten all day and was looking forward to JJ's based off previous good experiences at other locations. The wait wasn't bad and everything was expected, except the bland taste. I got the #4 - two pieces of tilapia, three wings, and fries - and a fresh-squeezed lemonade to drink. I sprinkled a lot of the lemon pepper powder onto the food and it helped, but not enough. The fries were typical, the fish was super bland, and the wings were more flavored than the fish, but still not as good as those I've had at other locations. The lemonade is basically a snow cone with a lot of liquid. Because of all the ice, the drink taste watered down initially, but after mixing it, it was really good. The nearly whole lemon in it made the last of it sour though. Because I hadn't eaten all day, I ate most of it and it was decent overall, but definitely isn't the JJ's I've come to know and love. The good: The menu had all the standard faves. Fish, shrimp, wings, gizzards, fries and all that. They also have the flavored lemonade that can be mixed and matched. It's SUPER sweet though, FYI. I ordered the Whiting and shrimp combo, extra seasoning. With strawberry lemonade to wash it down. The wait was average, nothing crazy. There was a staff member cleaning as people got up, that was nice to see. The bad: They are overpriced for the amount of food you get. My food was meh. The fish tasted like the oil was old, and the shrimp were overcooked. I was hurt, my mouth was so ready for the food I grew up with. Tastebuds had an attitude afterwards, womp womp. The only thing I had was good is the Pepsi, the gizzards we're fried hard as a brick, you can tell the grease was old, because of how dark my fries were, the grease was floating at the bottom of the to go container, soaked through the bread that was given to me, it was horrible. I am not sure if this is taking place at all locations, but in this particular location, they are requiring that if you pay online, which happens to be the most convenient way to purchase, you must appear with the credit card and photo identification of the person who made the purchase otherwise they will not give you your product. Now understand I paid online and my wife went to pick up the food, she had the online paid receipt, her identification, and the exact type of order that we placed. She was still not allowed to pick up our food unless I sent a text message copy of my driver's license and a copy of the credit card I used to make the purchase. It is deplorable to treat customers this way, particularly when they have PREPAID for their order AND have their receipt in hand. On top of this, the cooks that are preparing the food are not wearing any masks, the front line workers at the counter are not wearing any masks and these are the people handling your food, while we are still experiencing a deadly pandemic. This behavior and treatment is totally unacceptable. The fact that you care so little about the people who visit your restaurant, and their wellbeing and that you place profit over life is disappointing, to say the least. read more
