At almost 70 this is the first Yelp review I ever did but JJ is worth it! I first went to him about ? 15 years or more ago (at his former location back then). Another smog shop "broke my spark plug wire" and said it would not pass smog as they pointed to a pulley on the engine and said the whole thing needed replacing and of course that would be some big bucks. It ran perfectly when I took it to them but now it was running horribly. I took it to JJ's smog for a second opinion. He instantly found the problem, a broken spark plug wire. I bought new wires at the auto parts store and put them on. He smogged my car, it passed and he did not charge me anything but the smog charge. I have been his loyal customer ever since. He has seen our daughter grow up from a baby and has taken the time to play his piano with her every time we smogged our vehicles over these many years. Now that I know he does all types of auto repairs, I will have everything on both of our vehicles done only by JJ and his mechanics! JJ is an HONEST and real GREAT guy! Been a mechanic myself for over 40 years. I have several cars that JJ has worked on as well as all the smog testing. From personal experience, the work is good and he is a man of his word. So when I read reviews like the one posted by this person "Vahnid W." it makes my blood boil. Check that person out - all negative reviews! That tells you something right there. To try and ruin business reputations and make businesses defend themselves is terrible. Then to attack on a personal level is beyond terrible. That is the good and the bad of Yelp - no idiot filters. I've been a repeat customer for at least 3 years now. JJ is honest and believes in providing good service so that his customers would always come back. To that dude who gave him 1 star for not getting his call answered on time, get real man. And to the other dude who had a problem with his bill, why don't you try talking to him about it instead of writing a scathing review. It's not fair that people can only read your side of the story. Both sides need to be heard and based on all other reviews (including my own), JJ is a stand up guy and deserves a chance to explain his side. read more

Definitely the best smog check ever. AND I noticed a piano in the waiting area and when I asked JJ about it, he,, thinking I was a rock star, said he would play for me when my smog check was done. He did a great job on my van and then HE PLAYED THE BEST PIANO RENDITION OF THE EAGLES "HOTEL CALIFORNIA" I HAVE EVER HEARD. And when I applauded him for doing that he played the guitar solo from the Grateful Dead's "ALTHEA"on a guitar which was hanging on the wall. Priceless. This guy is very honest and friendly. JJ runs his business the way it should be ran. I had a bad experience at another smog repair/test center in el rio (stay away!!) they failed me and didnt explain why, just collected the $$ and said oh well. Went there around 4pm on a Weds afternoon. Parking is kinda tight but manageable. Was greeted right away by JJ and hooked my Truck right up. Was done in about 10 minutes and passed no problem. It was $50 for smog and filing DMV certificate. Some places might be a couple dollars cheaper but time is money and I know JJ will be doing my smog checks from now on, Thanks! read more

I went to 3 smog places and 2 other mechanics to try and get my bmw to pass smog. It took 4 months with no results. I found JJ's through Yelp and I will never go anywhere else. Got my 2005 RV smog checked there yesterday and JJ had to troubleshoot several problems before we could even get to the smog check. Everyone was kind, helpful and thorough.
