Wonderful service. Brought my car over to get new brakes. He quoted me a price pretty quickly, even though he was in the middle of smogging some other cars. I thought I might have to leave my car overnight, since he didn't have the parts, but he assured me that it would only be a couple hours. New to town and needing a smog test on an older (2004, Michigan-born) vehicle, I did some online comparison shopping and ended up driving over to JJs based on the reviews from this site--no appointment. I waited less than a minute for him to acknowledge and welcome me and was told that I could be helped in "about five minutes." In about five minutes (WOW!), JJ called me to the counter, asked what I needed, explained the process and timing, and somehow managed to make a quick and professional conversation feel like catching up with an old friend. I found this place after a thorough review on line, and took my '98 BMW for smog repair. the Tech Sevan was very nice and very respectful and asked me to bring the vehicle Monday morning; after a full evaluation, he called me in the afternoon, and said that he can get the job done; he quoted a figure that was reasonable and he got my car ready in 2 days; he asked me to drive the car for a day and bring it back for testing; he ran the test this morning and the car passed the smog test without any problem; I was very pleased with the workmanship, and the general business atmosphere @ this shop. You might want to get an alarm clock. Went there Saturday 9-15-18 and no one was there. Left at 8:20am along with 3 other people. Went down the street to Joe's Gas & Smog @ 1720 S Oxnard Blvd. In and out in 15 minutes. Great service at Joe's, not so much at JJ's. read more

Forget it. I hassled around trying to get my older Chrysler smoged here and finally gave up. It cost $41 for the original test, which failed. I then got a voucher from the state for $500 for needed repairs. I then had to pay _another_ $100 as a 'co-pay' charge. I went back for the _forth_ time and found it still didn't pass, so I dove over to to Crown Smog in Ventura and it passed right away. Crown Smog, 2599 W. Main St. Ventura. 805-667-9306. It's next to the Chevron gas station. Danny, the smog expert here, is experienced and helpful, and provides a second test free if the first one fails. I don't know where all these positive reviews came from for JJ's Smog - I'm sure not one! read more

I found JJs through Yelp, and I'm so grateful I did! The A/C in my 12-year-old Jeep never worked, not even when it was new. No one was able to fix it - not even two dealerships. I took a chance on JJ because he had been so thorough with my smog test (more on that in a minute). I brought my Jeep in, JJ gave me a diagnosis and an estimate. Once the parts arrived, it took him less than two hours to get it running for the very first time! Only a competent mechanic could have worked so quickly. As for the smog test: I read Francisco R's review and it makes me sad; indeed you can buy parts online and install them yourself for less. That is true. If you can't, you will pay for the diagnostic test(s) and the labor for someone other than yourself to install them. For example: In two years, I know I will need the same repair that Francisco had done, because my car just barely passed the smog test. JJ worked up an estimate for me so I can be prepared: diagnosis, parts, and labor (if done this year) $520. Sure, it's frustrating to spend that kind of money on car repair, but it's just part of life. If you are lucky enough to find a good and fair mechanic consider yourself lucky -- I consider myself very lucky! read more

Stopped by here after lunch today after I found it on Google. It had so many great Yelp ratings I made it a point to stop there for a smog check. The owner JJ and his assistant were really cool guys and got my car smog checked in about 10-15 minutes. I have sat in other smog check places for over an hour in the past.
