My first experience at J. Joseph Salon was in May of this year. Let me preface this review by saying, I'm one of the most anal retentive individuals you will ever meet! Visiting this salon was my first "outing" since the COVID19 pandemic began. I was impressed by the safety measures taken and felt completely comfortable. Joseph team on Instagram and carefully made my selection. There are so many talented stylists but Mikayla was my vibe. She pretty much read my mind and produced a cut and color that was identical to my expectations, maybe even exceeded them! She is so genuine, honest, and down to earth! She has recently relocated to the Odessa location and although it is a bit longer of a drive, I have already scheduled my next appt with her there. I would like to speak with you sir about my experience at one of your salons. You see, I was a very loyal customer going to your salon and getting keratin treatments by Jessica. This was in 2010. I loved your salon and continued getting those treatments. My husband had moved but we did return back to the area. I did go back to the salon in 2021 and got the usual keratin treatment. This time, I was not happy. My treatment only lasted for 4 weeks when in the past it would last for 3 months. I paid 300 dollars to have my hair look like crap. I called your salon and the person on the other end insulted me saying I probably did not do the proper steps to keep and maintain the treatment. I was furious as I followed everything even buying the products from your salon to keep the treatment. How insulting as I always got keratin treatments and follow all the steps. While talking to this person, I asked to Speak to a manager. They told me they would take my info and call me back. Nobody did! This was in July. I called this week (now August) and talked to your manager named Linda. She was not helpful either. All she offered was a 30 percent discount on another keratin treatment. I couldn't believe it!! Linda had the nerve to ask me to drive an hour out of my way to get the same service that didn't work the first time around and pay for it? Not a chance!!! I want a full refund as my hair lasted only 4 weeks and not the full 3 months. I'm not interested in getting this done again when it didn't work to begin with. I was a loyal customer for many years but I will not return to your salon and I will make sure everyone is aware of how your salon used to be a great one. I also know of 2 other individuals who have stopped going to your salon because of the crappy styles that are over priced and the stylists pushing products. I've been to every single one of j. Joseph's salons .. land o lakes, Lutz, citrus, Odessa. Twice for a cut twice for color. Land o lakes location did fine on the cut, Lutz location girl can't cut long layers. I went to citrus location for color and it turned out okay faded within a month and cost me $275 just for color no cut (balayage). I will say with the citrus location they took 3.5 hours to color my hair NO haircut, the girl also TOLD me she was going to curl my hair I did not ask for my hair to be curled so I was like okay whatever guess she wants to see what it looks like... mind you they sit you in the chair discuss what you want beforehand and then they write up how much it will cost.. she quoted me $175 for balayage.. I finish and I wasn't too impressed and went to the counter to pay.. but whatever your hair never looks the way you want first time around but what was frustrating was when I went to pay it was $25 more than what she quoted me originally and then she charged me another $20 for curling my hair which I didn't ask for! Are you kidding how annoying when it's 85 degrees out, my curl fell in 5 mins and I told them I wasn't paying for curls that I never asked for nor was I told I would be charged for it! Now I went to the Odessa location last weekend.. showed the guy like 5 photos of what I wanted. He quotes me again $175 for balayage no cut. So he starts doing what he does .. then as he's taking the shower cap off my head he tells me it's going to actually be darker ashy blonde instead of light blonde .. I was super frustrated because he told me after he had put the toner on my hair and if you can't do it like the picture just be honest.. my hair almost looked exactly the same walking in as walking out. I feel like they only will take you hair half a shade lighter which will just fade back to your old color a month later.. it's like they try to keep you coming back and charging you $200 for color and toner every time. So..I told the guy it doesn't look like the photos and how frustrating it is because I'm getting married in 2 months and only have 1 more hair appointment before my wedding .. then they proceed to tell me I need to come in 2 more times??!! Like what? Who gets there hair done once a month? Not me. (I will say he offered to go pit more toner on my hair but told me it would bring out the warmer colors!! I don't want my hair looking like a copper penny). So after everyone in the salon knew I wasn't happy I went to the counter to pay for my hair.. again $25 more.. I asked why?? They said extra color! What a joke! This place quotes you before you pay and then charges you even more when it's time to pay when you don't even like your hair. They also constantly filter their photos they post it's very obvious. Anyway I don't think I'll be going back. read more

well.. used to come here and it was great. went in today and the lady totally didn't do what I asked, had her own agenda, and then the haircut just didn't turn out good. told her I wanted layers, the top of my head is about 2" longer than anything on the side.... hence no layers. just doesn't look good, didn't give me a hair wash either. been coming here for 4 years. lost me as a client. read more

I just moved to the area and needed to get my hair refreshed! I found this salon on Yelp and decided to give them a shot. They accept walk-ins but with my work schedule I made an appointment. They place was super clean and all the staff were friendly. The lady who did my hair Samantha was very talkative and educated. I got my eye brows waxed and my hair filled and then colored black. The salon gives Luna price quote before they do anything which was very helpful. $15 eyebrows, $46 hair color fill and $68 for black color. During the process Samantha checked on me several times and kept pleasant conversation. My hair is now all one color and feeling refreshed! I will be returning! read more

Paige is amazing! I had a terrible haircut about 6 moths ago and it finally got long enough for some corrections. She throughly listened to my concerns and came up with a plan. After my shampoo, she straightened my hair so as she cut she could ensure no spots of the former choppy remained. She spent a ton of time going over my hair in detail. I felt totally comfortable in her hands. The result is amazing - I love my new cut! I haven't felt this good about it in a long time. I set an appointment with her for 6 weeks from now to continue to correct the former cut as my hair grows. She's a "new talent" but she seemed like a pro. I highly recommend her! read more

As a first time customer I went there to get really blond balayage in my brunette hair. Amanda, the stylist told me that the first time I would not see it as much as I wanted too. I also wanted a retouch in the rest of the hair and a cut. After a while she came back and told me the hefty price tag of $275 for my wishes. I was a little shocked but did not ask what the price entailed, I was just to exited to get it done. Found out later that she used a peach bonder and a glaze ( $70 ) that I didn't need. Even though the price was really high I think I would have been happy if I would have seen my highlights more. I have to go outside in the sun to see at least something. My friends can't believe that I have balayage in my hair, very hard to see and only partial, ( again, very pricy for partial ) Unfortunately I won't be back because I am really disappointed in the result and for the price I paid. read more

Don't waste your time. I went there on Monday, both doors were locked. The lady cutting hair wouldn't even look at me knocking on the door. Maybe she was deaf..I'll let that slide, although I highly doubt if she was. On Tuesday I went back and the door was unlocked and a full house. Spoke with whomever was working the front desk and made an appointment for the following day at 3:00. I arrived the next day a few minutes before three and the lady behind the desk said I was entered on the computer at 4:00 and could not be seen until then. My appointment card clearly said 3:00 but the only thing the lady could say was...sorry. I left work early in the pouring rain and the only thing that could be said was....sorry...with no eye contact may I add. No trying to accommodate me with another appointment......nothing. Just......sorry. I'm sorry too. With customer service this poor, I won't be back. If YOUR staff makes a mistake, try to at least offer something so you don't lose a customer instead of just saying sorry without looking at you. I live right across the street from this place and I will be telling everyone I know to stay away from this salon. Its a shame too, I was looking forward to going there. read more

I've passed this salon before whenever I go to Publix and I went in today to go get a color change. First off the staff is very friendly and the establishment is very very clean. I had Starr as my stylist and she was absolutely amazing. She changed my hair back to my natural hair color and it turned out FLAWLESS. She also mended my split ends to smooth out my hair and did an amazing job with that. If you go here I really do recommend Starr. Was able to get a last-minute appointment on a Saturday late afternoon, and very happy with the whole experience. Jackie is wonderful and really knows her stuff! First and last time coming here. Went in for a sandy/ash blonde balayage and came out with golden blonde hair! It looked awful. I asked for a cut to my collar bone and long layers and she cut my hair basically into two lengths one to my chin and the other to my collar bone and the ends of my hair look thin as if I have split ends but I don't! She completely thinned my hair out and cut it horribly. This is the worst hair cut I've had in my life. I went back the next day and the manager was understanding and tried to fix the color and the girl who did my hair didn't even apologize for ruining it. The color turned out more like what I was asking for but faded out over 1 night and I didn't even wash it! These people don't know what they're doing. The first picture is what I left the salon with. The second picture is what a different amazing stylist did at a different salon to fix that horrible haircut. She could not believe they let me leave the salon like that. WOW. Prices vary on their experience, but I honestly don't notice a difference pertaining to a higher level one being better than a lower level one. Price is expensive for basic services. The most annoying thing about this salon is that I've seen The owner, Roy several times & he hasn't even batted and eye to me or others to say "Hello" or ask how you like your service. He comes across as too cool for school. I've been to several high end salons privately owned & all owners have been welcoming & friendly. I was a client of Jay Joseph for about 7 to 8 years. Initially everything was great they were very friendly their prices were reasonable until the business started to grow. At that point it was more about the money than the quality and the care of the clients hair. There were several hairstylists that quit because they told me that Iliana and the owner Roy were more concerned about making money than taking care of their clients hair. At first I didn't believe it but I noticed there was a change in my hair because they were not giving me the best advice when it came to highlighting and coloring my hair. My hair started to break and fall out. At one point I was told that I would have to leave a deposit because I had missed some appointments due to being in the hospital. After I had a major surgery I was told I could not go to my local J Joseph had to travelWith a back brace on 30 miles away from my home just to go and get a hair wash and my roots done. When I got to the other shop in citrus because my husband drove me and as I struggle to get out of the car and make my way into the shop and struggle to get into the seat because I was in so much pain, one of the other hairstylist that I knew very well Nicole, looked at me with a very sorrowful look on her face and proceeded to go over to the stylist that I was assigned to and let her know the particulars of what I needed to get done because she knew my hair and she had also done my hair before. But I could see the disgust on her face because I was forced to go to the shop because they wouldn't allow me to go to my local shop because they said they were all booked up. This shop is only interested in making money they don't care about the quality of their work they give you bad advice and they will rip the color right out of your head and put new collar in there put highlights in your hair that you don't really needOr should have. Eliana is the most fake person I have ever met in my life she initially is very friendly towards you but behind your back she talks about you. She personally has gossiped about other clients to me and I just kept quiet because I don't agree with that it started to make me feel very uncomfortable and then when they told me that I had to leave a deposit after being a client for so many years and they wouldn't take into consideration that I was ill and I was in the hospital that was just the cherry on the cake. Ileana went as far as to say that I reminded her of her mother and she couldn't wait for her mother to meet me she's a liar and they're only interested in the dollar don't go here they are not your friend they are not interested in making sure that they're taking care of your hair and they do not give you good advice this is not a doctors office where you have to be billed for missing an appointment this is a hair salon they have quite a few locations now and it's gotten to the point where they don't care about their clients. Don't be fooled people this is not the only shop in town I have found Another shop with stylus that have great talent and really care about your hair and no one charges you a deposit before you make the appointment they except walkins it's a full service salon don't go here! read more

Like many salons these days, they spend a lot of time describing in detail every product used in your hair just to try and sell it to you at the end. Haircuts and color are expensive enough. Very few of us need or can afford another $30+ bottle of something or other to sit on our shelf. This is not the stylists fault; they're just doing what they're told to do. I am really very impressed with this salon. Today was the first time I have ever been to J. Joseph Salon and Anastasia was my stylist. I am so impressed with her knowledge, skill, attention to detail and her ability to carry on a great conversation! The salon is very classy, clean and cozy. The only little tiny disappointment I had was the price of the product I purchased. I think I spent more on shampoo and conditioner than I did for my shampoo, cut and style. It's not really a big deal; I could have said no, but I also like supporting local businesses and perhaps this particular brand will give me the results I'm looking for when I style my hair. The lucky stylist who was assigned to me was Danielle. Danielle was friendly and appeared genuinely concerned with how I wanted my hair to be styled. I am extremely picky about my hair, and Danielle did an amazing job. The finished product was beyond my expectations. I can't speak for any other stylist, but I will only go back to Danielle. I have been back several times & she has consistently done awesome work. The salon consistently has a positive energy, and the staff continues to be friendly and inviting. The stylist I've been with for 11 years was not available, so I decided to give this salon a try because I'd heard pretty good things. I read a lot of reviews about the place and most of them are pretty accurate. They advertised a special for a cut and partial highlights for $79, but when I got in there, the stylist quoted me a price of $115 for a cut and just a touch-up of my highlights for about 1/4" of growth at my roots. No way was I paying that, so I waited on the color and showed her a picture of the style I wanted. What I ended up with wasn't much like the picture, but it worked well for me and I really liked it. The stylist was very nice and did everything I wanted and really did a nice job. I've read so many reviews saying that they are super pushy about selling products, but she never once tried to force anything on me, and she wasn't the slightest bit pushy when I turned down the color. Overall I really like the service I received and would definitely go back, but the only downside is that I think their color services are way overpriced. I know you usually have to pay for higher quality, but they're just a little too over the limit. read more

I have been going to this salon for about 3/4 years now. I initially went to the land o lakes location and now go to the lutz location because that's where my stylist (Emma) is. I have had nothing but exceptional service at both locations and don't trust anyone else to do my hair. I was very hesitant the very first time I went because I hadn't had my hair touched in years and have very thick (Puerto Rican/Cuban) hair. Emma took the time to meet with me before my appointment to assure me that I am in good hands and ever since then I can't imagine going anywhere else.
