I ordered a shrimp cocktail after reading best place to dine in and how good the seafood was but was very disappointed. Lived in HB for 13 years, have driven by this place a thousand times! Marquis caught my eye led zep tribute band playing, so I finally stopped in. Place is very kool! Pretty small, band stage is barely big enough for a 4 person band. Seemed most people in there were regulars and knew each other. Had a great time, would def go back! If you like Mahé down the street the owner of Mahé, Toby use to work at King Neptunes for YEARS and learned a lot here. This place is a local favorite, that goes generations deep of family. Easy breezy, laid back, no frills. A straight shooting place that is family owned and you are treated like family too, The nicest people that genuinely care about you. The food is great. The portions are good. A good pour. Easy to be at and you will usually find cool customers all around. Dad bands have played here, as well as their sons and daughters too. It's just the best! If you need someone to kiss your ass, you won't get that here, just like family. Haha My personal favorites are the clam chowder, the chowder fries. Fettuccine with jumbo prawns, the garlic bread, and the blackened chicken fettuccine ( it's good if you add shrimp to it too) the bacon burger and the baked potato. I've been coming here for years off and on usually on Sundays to George Fryer play. Well now I'm coming here for the food and to support our local business. Sunday I came here and ordered a cheese burger and the thing was huge along with cheese fries yum. Then last night I had the fish and chips, a beer while I waited and cocktail to go. Was craving king crab legs so we decided to try King Neptunes. I ordered 1lb of crab legs with green salad and rice pilaf, my husband ordered fish & chips with green salad & clam chowder. We each had a glass of wine which was a generous pour. Each of our meals came also came with steamed carrots, broccoli & zucchini. My meal came out with French fries but our server quickly brought a plate of rice pilaf when I mentioned I had ordered the rice, my meal was excellent. My husband said his fish was okay but tasted frozen not fresh. Our servers were friendly and attentive. 1st time in this restaurant. Been wanting to try for a while. Ordered King Crab many times from a competitor a couple blocks down. When I first tasted the crab it was very salty, so I tried another area of the leg and it too was salty. When the waiter came back to see how things were and I mentioned how salty it was and his immediate answer was it's always going to taste a little salty" I said no not this salty and that I have ordered this dish many times before. But when I came back to town after being away for five years...not only were they open and serving up to prior standards, they went way the eff out of their way to make sure I would never stop coming. It's been too long since my last visit...glad we met up with some friends last nite though! This place is a DIVE, but the food is OUTSTANDING! We visited our friends in the bar for a while before dinner. Music blaring in the background, but we were able to carry on nice conversation. Then we got our table, the music was less overpowering in the dining area, cool! Sooooo, the portions are big, so you might be able to split your meal with a friend. Oh, but I didn't! I just had to order my very own plate of Alaskan King Crab - 16 oz worth! Dinner comes with salad or soup (I chose the salad), steamed veggies, and a baked potato drowned in melted butter, sour cream and chives. Just had a slight coronary describing that. The crab was fabulous! I had only one leg, and doggie bagged the second. Still sitting in the fridge. Maybe make a few crab cakes or something good! Get back to the camp site to find an order was wrong, mixed up shrimp instead of chicken. Called multiple times to no answer and finally drove back. Now I'm missing dinner with the family while waiting at the restaurant for 20 minutes for the item to be remade. The really frustrating part is not even any sort of customer service, no apology for nobody answering the phone. Nothing. I'm sure I could've cussed, yelled, and been rude and gotten some form of recognition. If none of that bothers you, the food was decent. But part of what paying decent money for is customer service. King Neptune's is a great bar. But not only is it a bar, they also have GREAT food. The staff is super friendly, the beer is cold, and they have a full bar. I have to admit that I used to go here more often than I do now, but I plan to start going back. They have live music there quite often and it's always advertised on the billboard outside. I recommend the wings, they have to be the best wings that I've ever had. I crave them they are so good. But I really have no complaints about any of the food items that I've ever tried there. I'm sad they are not serving prime rib right now, as they used to have a really nice dinner that would put Captain Jack's to shame for half the price. But my boyfriend and I went a few weeks ago and really had a great dinner. I had a delicious filet mignon that was cooked perfectly and my boyfriend had a seafood pasta combination that he said was outstanding. I know this is considered a "beach bar", but Juan has really done a great job in serving delicious food at reasonable prices in a relaxing atmosphere. Since they are almost located on the sand, dining outside on their patio gives you a nice breeze although we chose to sit inside to enjoy a cozy booth. We will be back now that the pandemic has opened things up. read more
