D&W used to service transmissions for a small mechanic shop I worked at in Leelanau county, so I've seen them do over 40 transmissions in my short time as a mechanic. We never had a problem with any of their work! Not a single tranny, and I'd be willing to bet that's the norm for Wayne and the D&W crew. So now, when the trans in my plow truck finally had had enough, I confidently took it to D&W. Wayne took me for a diagnostic cruise in my truck so he could explain what was happening and what would have to be done for repairs. An hour before he's supposed to be there he texts that his daughter is sick & he is starting to feel sick too & he will get a hold of me when he figures out his schedule. 3 days goes by with nothing, I text him finally to find out what's going on & that I'm probably going to have to find a real mechanic to do the work & he says he won't be able to work on my car because life overwhelmed him this past week/weekend. The price for labor at Keystone is reasonable, especially compared with other shops in the Traverse City area. I was given an estimate for the repairs which they suspected I needed, but once they popped the hood, they found it wasn't quite as serious than they initially expected. Rather than make those repairs anyway, and charge me an extra hour of labor plus parts (which I've experienced before from a more dishonest, mainstream auto repair shop), they reduced the price from my estimate and made the correct repairs. Not only that, but they knew my situation was difficult, and that I needed to travel several hours by car that same evening, so they began the repairs immediately in order to get me on the road before the shop closed rather than the next morning. All around a good experience and an honest mechanic, and I will return the next time my vehicle inevitably needs work.

I asked how much I had to pay for the "diagnostic" they preformed to say it was a "misfire" and was told "we haven't done anything yu don't owe" took my truck to another shop they plugged me up n got a old misfire code, took my truck home did my speed sensor myself after ordering 2 my truck was perfectly fine. speed sensors dont throw codes!

Bill's Auto Clinic repaired the truck that we haul our camper with when we were vacationing in the…read morearea for the 4th of July. The transmission was slipping, and we couldn't keep fluid in it. It was also stalling when idling. We left a message at the shop on Sunday and got a call back first thing Monday morning from Gordy. The shop wasn't technically open Monday because they were to be closed for the holiday that day, too, but Gordy was in anyhow. He had us come in so that he could take a look at our vehicle and take it for a test drive. We originally thought we'd have to have the trans rebuilt, but after Gordy inspected and drove it, he thought the only thing wrong was the transmission cooling lines. He said he couldn't be 100% sure about that until he got into it, but he assured us that even if they did have to rebuild the trans, they would be done in time for us to head home Friday as planned. They had the truck done and ready for us to pick up on Thursday. Gordy's feeling that it was the lines and not the trans itself was right. They also found that the fuel filter was clogged, which was causing the stalling, and they replaced that as well. All was good with the truck to take us back home to Ohio. When we first got there, I was a bit apprehensive about having them work on our truck because of the shop's appearance. Let's just say it's not a chain repair shop, and it has a very "homey" feel! But Gordy and Bill were straightforward and down to earth, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. When we dropped the truck off, we chatted with Gordy for quite some time. (Our ride took a while to get there, so Gordy even offered take us where we needed to go.) During our conversation, we learned that Bill has had that shop for 40-some years and Gordy has worked with him for many of those, so these guys have a lot of experience. Plus, when we picked up the truck, Bill offered our dog a biscuit, so a couple more points there!

He was kind enough get me right in and found that it wasn't transmission fluid at all, but coolant leaking from a cracked plastic Tee in the heater hose. He went out of his way to diagnose and repair my car and had me back on the road in no time. He said he knows how it is to be on vacation, have your car break down in a place with which you're not familiar or know who to trust. I really appreciated it.

One had 4wd problems & one shop here in Harrison was quoting $1000 before they even started. These did a complete exam & charged me less than $100 to fix a simple repair. The other truck was a different story, I just had a truck rebuilt & had spent big money from front to back rebuilds. The rear diff was going bad & I knew it was gonna cost me. Looked around & was getting prices around $2000 and that was on putting a used one in from a junkyard. Took it to these guys & got the whole thing rebuilt for less than a grand. Also my rebuilt engine was springing all kinds of leaks including a rear main seal . The place I had the work done was in the Detroit area. Knowing they didn't do a great job the first time & already taking it back twice, I called Lake to see what they could do. As always, he took great care of me , actually replaced almost every gasket in the engine & fixed it right the first time. I work in an auto parts store, so I deal with shops everyday. One thing I can tell you, if you can find a good shop that isn't looking to over charge you, your lucky. Not only do they guys charge a better than fair rate, their work is top notch .
