Went there last night Jan 6 and wanted a coffee. Noticed that the coffee was old. There are timers on the pot. I asked the girl if I could have it for free she told me no. I said ok then can you brew a fresh pot she rolled her eyes sighed and said yes but it's going to take at Least ten minutes. She then proceeded to dump out all three coffee pots and clean them before she brewed the fresh pot for me. Then kind roughly just slammed the cup down took my money and walked away without so much as another word. Very good ice cream, we especially enjoy the unique flavors. But it is definitely pricey.

Omg the flavors of ice cream here are unreal. The Baileys chocolate chip cheesecake ice cream was so good, they also had some specials too on different flavors the one I saw was with olive oil didn't try but they do offer samples. The espresso frappe was good with a real shot of espresso. Will be back for sure. The staff was friendly and the lines moved fast. Great location in the assembly row area. read more

I was excited to finally try a JP Licks and sadly it didn't go too great. Sub-par service and the sorbet was borderline freezer burnt. I ordered a small and it was $4.50 for a crumbly scoop that didn't even fill the cup. Not worth it at all. Maybe it was just this location and flavor that sucked, but I don't know if I want to even bother trying again. Too expensive to risk it. read more

The employees hate their job you can see it all their faces and attitude, and also one of the employee was throwing trash in the trash can and swiped her hands on the top of the trash and kept touching wiping her nose and was serving people Ice cream without washing her hands so I had to leave. read more

I don't know where I've been, clearly I've been asleep and missing out on the goodies served at this place. The white chocolate with almond milk is heaven. Wrap me in a blanket and massage my feet while watching Golden Girls type of good. I tried a vanilla cupcake also, which was good but not memorable but I would expect that so that's okay. I think it was the frosting honestly, it was alright. I'm not crazy about frosting anyway unless it's cream cheese frosting so that's probably why. I'll be back for ice cream for sure ! read more

Coconut. Almond. Chip. You will be the end of me. So, I don't really like ice cream all that much. If they let me buy it in spoonful sizes I would. I just can't eat that much of it. But that coconut almond chip ice cream here in JP Licks makes me man up and get the kiddie size. It really is similar to an almond joy. They once had a lactose free version I think which was really good but I have not seen it again. It's new, it's shiny, it's on the water and they have affogato. What more could you want? JP Licks in Davis is an institution. You're never going to find a replacement for that experience, but I can tell you that this location comes close. This shop features everything you'd come to expect from JP Licks- eclectic flavors, diverse toppings and of course dairy and gluten free options. The space is clean, well lit and is located just around the corner from one of the most beautiful locations in all of Somerville, the Mystic River walkway at Assembly Row. I'd go the full 5 stars, but they've got some kinks to work out. Service has been spotty, but we're eager to stop back in and give it another shot. read more

$3.30 for a kiddie size??? For the size of a dental rinse cup??? Outrageous for a product that's lackluster and ordinary. I didn't even get a packed cup, but more of a wimpy couple scrapes off a scoop. The cost of 1 - 4oz. kiddie size cup is more than half the cost of a regular size frappe, a milkshake that consisted of a full 21oz cup, made with a full cup full of ice cream. How does that make any sense??? The Candy Cane ice cream I had a true candy cane flavor and had pieces of candy cane in it, but was not special enough in any way to justify the price. I've had better store brand ice cream, and a cartons worth for the same price. I'd return again if I had nothing better to do before a movie. In fact, I think ice cream is probably cheaper at the movie theater of all places, so I'd rather grab some there! First and last time I come here. I don't understand the appeal whatsoever! read more

Great to have a JP Licks in the new mall, but it probably takes a while to refine the operations. The yogurt was okay but something still wasn't right. Waited 15 minutes for all 4 of the staff working to serve the only customer in line in front of us. Ordered a banana split and after getting it, asked for a banana because she forgot it and she looked at me like I crazy for wanting a banana in my banana split. Then she started to say it'd be extra for the banana then walked away half way through and asked some other girl to finish. Girl 1 went to help someone else while girl 2 walked away to help the customer behind us. After we waited another 7 minutes for the customer behind us to finish and pay, we asked for someone to check out and girl 2 looked blankly at us with her glassy eyes and said "ohhhhh ok, yeah". Only go here is you have a lot of patience and 40 minutes to wait for the stoned staff to remember why they're there. The toppings were only put in a corner of the bowl, not on the ice cream but the smallest dab of toppings in the corner. I only got 1 of the 3 ice creams that I ordered. Not exactly sure why I just paid $9 for this embarrassing display of a "banana split". You should be ashamed that you call yourself "the best place for homemade ice cream". I'm embarrassed for you. Popped in on a Friday night after missing a movie. It's a typical JP Licks. The flavors are good and I had a brownie sundae (warmed) with two scoops of different ice cream, hot fudge, and whipped cream. They use really good brownies. It was pretty incredible. So it sort of pains me to write this as I typically avoid chains. But this one is good and that brownie sundae was better than most that I get - and I get them all over, from fancy to non-fancy places. Really good. Also, the staff was really friendly and fun. Ice cream is really delicious, but the pricing is a little out of control. One scoop is $6 after taxes and you're barely getting any ice cream. The line we had to wait in must have been 30 people deep and it takes forever to move people through the lines at night. If you're in the mood for ice cream....sure they have good ice cream. Halfway through my Almond Butter and Kahlua ice cream, I found a customer's worst nightmare -- A HAIR -- right smack dab in my ice cream. Not on top. IN. It looked like it was sprouting out with a big, "Hello, you almost just ate me. Sucker." Seeing as how it wasn't my hair color, it was DEFINITELY NOT MY OWN HAIR. I brought it back to show the cashier (presumably also the manager for the night) and he merely offered to replace it. Somehow, I feel like a big hair in my ice cream merited more of a refund and an apology, instead of an offer of another possibly hair-laden treat. On previous trips to Boston we had discovered J.P. Licks on Newbury street. I was very impressed with their hard yogurt then. This location is new, the area very nice. Parking hard specially with all the snow. I had their soft serve peanut butter. Asked for a sample first, the young girl gave me a sample and with out a word walked away. It was snowing and they were not that busy. Then I had to wait for another person to come and serve me. I don't know how a busy establishment can operate with all these airhead servers? I asked the server how big is a large and he said 11 ounces. This must be a joke. That's a small in California. Then the price is absolutely outrages for such a small portion. This particular JP licks is my favorite one to go to. The qualify of their frozen yogurt has always been perfect. I especially love their thick and creamy peanut butter frozen yogurt. I would give them 5 stars but 2 things bug me. 1. The parking situation is not good. It takes forever to find metered parking and free parking is pretty far away. 2. Service. I always get a large frozen yogurt and I have been given less than the 11 ounces that a large is supposed to be on multiple occasions. I carry my food scale everywhere so I always weigh my order. They've given me as little as 9 ounces and when you're paying an arm and a leg for yogurt it's not cool to jip customers. If you're not a pig like me and don't mind stingy portions of yogurt and ice cream you'll be fine. If they ever have strawberry cheesecake, chocolate chip cookie or peanut butter yogurt when you're they you must try them. read more

honestly just really gross location. we waited in a Line for about 10 minutes and once it was our turn it seemed everyone went to the back of the kitchen. a girl came out to take our order and immediately took her hair clip out, twirled her hair around, fixed her clip and proceeded to take my order. Directly over what seemed to be the toppings for ice cream. my mom couldnt get herself to order after seeing that but I just felt too awkward to even say anything So I paid and threw it away which is wasteful. i would recommend wearing gloves. or perhaps washing your hands after touching your face, hair and hair clip before taking customer orders. read more

I have been to several locations and each one gets 5 stars. I have never once had a bad experience at JP Licks and I seriously wake up in the middle of the night with cravings for their brownie brownie batter ice cream. I most recently ordered a cookies and cake batter ice cream cake for my husbands birthday, and although I would have appreciated it in a smaller size than medium (only because I've eaten more than I should!) it's just as delicious as every other flavor I've tried. I love the ice cream and frequently visit other locations. However, today I went to this one and the wait was ridiculous. People were leaving because of the wait. I waited around 30 minutes to buy 3 ice creams. The staff seemed to not know how to deal with the long line. Also, someone in the staff thought it was a good idea to have heavy metal playing on the speakers of the store. You can imagine that people were really excited to hear hard heavy metal while holding the hands of their children. Anyways, we had to ask of the girls twice to change the music. read more

They had four flavor of ice cream with Sriracha- I'm not a fan but I tried it and it was good. They had all flavors of in season fruits- try the Peach or the HH raspberry- to die for!!!! I'm coming back as a regular! New Englanders eat on average 15 gallons of ice cream a year- after going here I'm going to guess I will be up to 20 gallons a year. read more
