Been here a few times in the past few months and had a good experience each time. It gets packed during the warmer months but there's plenty of outdoor seating if there are none available inside. Parking is also readily available (and free for the first few hours) at the multiple garages in the area or you can attempt to park on the street. There's tons of different flavors here but I tend to get Pistachio and really enjoy it. It's green, so there's definitely artificial coloring, but they give a generous scoop with plenty of pistachio bits in each bite. Convenient location for a quick dessert before or after a movie or dinner at Assembly. Would continue coming back for more. read more

More than that, it's disrespectful to my first love of ice cream. I think once you find your ice cream joint, you shouldn't go looking for another. It was a pleasure experiencing this Boston based ice cream shop. They have a sweet story told in a humorous manner on their website that I enjoyed reading. This lovely ice cream shop had a good layout that made ordering quick and efficient on a hot summer day. The line was almost to the door, but the staff seemed to have it down to a science. Flavor samples were offered, which is always appreciated. This day, we decided upon the four scoop plate ($9) with the mint chip, black raspberry, cookies n cake batter, and the maple butter walnut. It was some of the best tasting ice cream we've had. The place was clean, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was laid back. I need to finally say, Licks is probably the worst ice cream I have ever had in an ice cream shop. I have been to several, and the experience is always the same. First, the ice cream is soft (not soft serve), ice cream needs to be firm...hard. If you go to Richardson's, it is always firm and cold. When I get Lick's ice cream, it's soft and almost pudding like. Flavor: it's not creamy, more like ice milk. It is truly a waste of time and money to go there. Staff was great, since they do not have to do much work to scoop the soft ice cream. Go to Richardson's or Mad Maggie's, and you see those kids work out as they scoop your ice cream. I placed an order to Uber eats for two brownie hot fudge sundaes with whipped cream and walnuts I was very shocked to find that it was $12.98 for one husband so I ordered two one for me and my son as I was eating it and I'm like wow this doesn't have much ice cream in it not even a scoop it was all hot fudge the brownie and the walnuts and a little bit of whipped cream the order came to almost $33 for too hot fudge sundaes I reached out to Uber eats today they said it's past the cutoff day because I ordered on May 28th I didn't think of taking a picture of it I didn't get to speak to my son till yesterday and I said what you think of that ice cream sunday he wasn't much ice cream and it wasn't he said no Mom not at all but would not do anything for me it was past the cutoff date he suggested I contact the restaurant this is my first time even here even though the price was expensive I didn't care if I wanted ice cream but very disappointed in the portion I was dying for ice cream I didn't even get any. My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday afternoon for a quick pick-me-up. There was a lot of people in line when we arrived. I ordered a small with half mint cookies and cream and half black raspberry. I don't think one can ever go wrong with JP Licks - I loved my order and easily downed the entire cup! We've always enjoyed JP Licks in Boston (Newbury St) but this Somerville location is a rip-off. The ice cream didn't taste as good as at other locations, and the hot fudge tasted old/burnt. But that's not the worst of it. NO! No, my friends, listen to my tale.... My wife likes to get 1 scoop of ice cream + a dollop of hot fudge. But it's hard to get the staff to figure out how to charge for that for some reason, so she just orders what on the JP Licks menu is listed as a regular sundae (1 scoop) with hot fudge and nuts, but no whipped cream. To be clear, she did not order a sundae, but she ordered the *exact ingredients listed as a sundae*, sans whipped cream. But apparently if you don't say "gimme a sundae without whipped cream," then "it's not a sundae." So, instead of being charged for a 1-scoop sundae ($7.90, a crime in itself for 1 scoop), we were charged for 1 scoop + 2 toppings, which is a dollar MORE, but with FEWER toppings. WTF? And when we acted a little befuddled (befuddled, not dickish - I saved up the dickishness for this review lol), we got attitude from the staff. The store was empty btw so this wasn't about noise levels or "busyness." I know, it's a dollar. Big whoop. But when you walk in thinking "1 ice cream scoop + a spoonful of hot fudge on top -- how much could it be?" and wind up spending $9 while a staffer is serving up a shitty attitude along with the overpriced ice cream, I guess it literally leaves a bad taste in your mouth. The flavor was great, but a lil on the sweeter side for me. It was lite and creamy and the fresh taste of ginger came thru very good. I like that they try to be creative with their flavors while still offering quality ice cream. The only thing that kills me is the prices. It's definitely more expensive than other local ice cream places.
