It's always fun to go to JP Licks for a treat, after walking around Assembly Row for a bit we wound our way here. There was a line but it moved pretty quickly. They have ice cream, soft serve ice cream, frozen yogurt both hard and soft serve. Was difficult for me to see the menu behind counter, but when I got closer I could read the hard yogurt flavors and made up my mind with a back up. My friend had X yogurt flavor which I guess is a base, soft serve, I had a tiny taste and sort of reminded me of boxed cheese cake mix and I ordered a frozen yogurt hard mocha chip, it's hard to find mocha. We paid at the register and the server brought me a coffee chip, to note, she asked if it was okay or she would switch me out, I just don't understand why she did not tell me they did not have mocha, when I ordered but maybe it was just busy Friday night and there was already more of a line so I said okay. The coffee chip was very good--not too sweet you can taste the coffee the chocolate from the crushed chips. We both got small cups so with tax about $13. They have some general seating inside but we went outside and sat in the greenway part of the Assembly Row complex. read more

This was our first time having ice cream from here and it was NOT a disappointment! Their serving size for a scoop is very generous and they have unique flavors that you will not see anywhere else! I had the mint cookies and cream and it was the best flavor I've had in a very long time. I wish they had one closer to me back home! read more

Cute small store with outdoor seating in front and back. although, the seating in the back had open fire which was not so safe on a windy day with toddlers in tow. Ice cream was good, limited seating indoors. I didn't experience any rudeness as others have reported. The staff was friendly Although it wasn't that busy, the staff seemed overwhelmed and forgot part of my order. I Plenty of metered parking and lots nearby. read more

The Assembly Row location is quite possibly the prettiest JP Licks location. It's got giant glass windows, bright hanging lamps, and funky signs on the side of the building. There's seating inside, but also plenty of benches and tables outside (not to mention a lovely riverfront park across the street). Simply sublime! read more

I asked for the coffee chip FroYo. It looks like a crumbled piece of cake so I said no thanks. Tried the coffee cookies and cream next. Seems like they omitted the cream with that since it too looked like a crumbled piece of cake but in fact tasted like old coffee ice shards. One thing is for sure - I will definitely NOT be back for ice cream that is missing the creamy part. But hey, if you like crumbly ice shards, this is the place! read more

1 star for the service! I like the ice cream typically!Ordered an extra thick milkshake and it when it came out I felt like I was just drinking a cup of milk. I told the cashier and he said it was too busy to remake so he would charge me for something less. read more

I came here in the wee hours of 10-11am in the morning for the ube ice cream back in September. Nobody was here; therefore I was able to get instant and great customer service. When the ube ice cream is back in season this coming summer, I am sure as hell getting another serving of this. read more

Freezing out on a late December night - won't stop me from having some amazing ice cream. Usually a line in the summer, a great place to visit in the cold months for a quick dessert fix. Decided on the 2 scoop on a chocolate dip cone ($6ish) - one of the Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Chip and another of the Maple Butter Walnut. Maple Butter is supremely rich with little walnut pieces to add some texture to the creaminess. Low-key peanut butter flavor in the other scoop with globs of cookie dough and choco chips. Incredibly satisfying and held together nicely in the cone. Servers are kind and let people taste without any qualms. Huge ever-changing menu, so good reason to come back. read more

The only negative comment I have is their line during peak hours. And the fact they give you a second to order or someone shouts to keep it moving or something similar. But I guess you already had 10 mins to decide from the wait. Ice cream is amazing here! I am used to going to the one at Charles Street in Boston near my job. This is comparable. They always have seasonal flavors which is a must try. They also have frozen yogurt and dairy free products. If you're thinking of trying their ice cream cake, I highly suggest you do! The cow one is delicious!! They also have a rewards program where you can earn cow points to redeem free ice cream/treat as well! Be sure to ask for one!! read more

Contrary to the reviews below, I like it here. Ice cream is good, staff is friendly, and prices aren't too bad either. My absolute favorite ice cream is PB cookies and cream. Generic I know, but it IS SO good. Peanut butter and cookies and cream ice cream in a cone or cup, and I'm a happy gal. I know they have dairy free options, but this girl ain't about to indulge in that when there's so much more to choose from. Next time, I'll be adventurous and try something new. :) read more

A wide variety of flavors, a cool spot in assembly row with all the Christmas lights. We came here more for the ambience than the flavors. They have hard yogurt, sugar free, dairy free flavors and different types of cones to choose from. For me the ice cream was a little too sweet and heavy, and slightly more pricey than Toscanini's. read more

I've come here a few times wndering around Assembly and it's a solid spot. Lots of outdoor seating, a few indoor seats and quick service, regardless of if its busy or slow. Don't get the cone though, the paper stuck to mine and I lost the bottom of my cone :( read more

First time trying their ice cream cakes. Couldn't settle on one flavor so opted for 2 small cakes instead - tiramisu and brownie. Surprisingly, both cake turned out well. The cakes were moist and flavorful. Love the multi layers of cake vs ice cream. Definitely, glad we gave them a shot. read more

Great location and outdoor seating. I had heard this was one of the go to spots for ice cream in Boston so had to give it a try. The interior is clean and bright. Ice cream, shakes, frozen yogurt, and waffle cone flavors fill the chalk boards. We tasted a few flavors and went with the pistachio in a white chocolate dipped wafffle cone. Sooo creamy and real big pieces of pistachio! The service was fast and friendly. My one complaint is the price. It costs around $5 for this scoop and the waffle cone was even on sale for 50 cents. This meant normally it would've been around $6...too much for one scoop of ice cream. Overall, good experience. I'd like to try the fro-yo next! read more

JP Licks offers delightful flavors and delicious creamy...ice cream. I stopped by after a long Sunday afternoon of shopping, and this was the perfect pick-me-up treat! The line was a little long, but that gave me ample time to scan the extensive menu and narrow it down to just a few flavors to sample. They have seasonal flavors in addition to the regular options, so consider stopping by around the gift-shopping season for those happiness-inducing holiday flavors! :D My sister and I ended up splitting a cup of magically fall flavors - maple butter walnut & apple cider. Both were amazing, but the maple butter really took the cake on this one. Worth. read more

Can never go wrong with ice cream! I came here and had their cereal ice cream and it was delicious! We came from across the street, from Papagayo which is a Mexican restaurant. It was a perfect place to stop by for a quick dessert before going home! There are many choices of ice cream flavor and toppings. Employees there are super nice too! read more

Am I the only one that craves ice cream in the middle of winter? Clearly not bc there were people in line and at the tables as well lol Love this place. It's right in the center of Assembly Row in Somerville. They have the basic chocolate and vanilla flavors but if you're feeling a little adventurous, they also have more unique flavors. Around this time of year you can find special flavors like buttered cashew, carrot cake, pumpkin pie and the likes. Did you just drool? Let me get you a napkin bc YES the flavors are as good as they sound. Of course I ask to taste them all before ending with what I came for - my craving for vanilla ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. Don't judge me lol it's been my favorite since I was a kid. This location has floor to ceiling windows so it's also a great place to people watch, or maybe people watch you since you're inside the glass. Haha idk check it out! read more

Let's be honest, who can be unhappy in an ice cream shop? Oh, vegans or even folks who are GF, you say? Not here! They have vegan, dairy free and gluten free options. Places like this make me so happy that I don't have to feel like a burden being a lactard when going out for food with friends. I've been to this location twice for coffee, but am waiting for the warmer weather to return for ice cream. Both lattes were delicious, and they offered a few different DF milk options, which is always appreciated. The dessert displays always look beautiful and they also offer breakfast and dessert catering, which is great to keep in mind when hosting a party! read more

Love this location so much because the employees are always playing really fun and cool music. The store has a really great vibe to it thanks to employees. Ice cream open late! Why not? If you are craving a late night ice cream spot I recommend this place. They have some nice unique flavors and always have new season flavors which I appreciate. Its not the best ice cream in the world but you can always find something you like after sampling a few as with a lot of other places. I do wish they did more to hire more staff when it gets very busy on the weekends. I love the coffee with cookies and the coconut almond ship. read more

This is only for the PB&J ice cream which I loved loved loved. LOL. Such good quality ice cream. The jelly just tastes like the syrup but it made a really swell combination. Don't forget to try samples! For a kiddie sized plain cone, it was about $4 which is a little expensive but it's a good enough sized dessert. My friend ordered a small and even that felt like a lot of ice cream to eat... This place is generally small on the inside. But with this warm weather coming up, it's perfect to go outside and get some ice cream!!! There's plenty of seating around Assembly Row; sitting on the benches, chairs, on the concrete sides, or even by the river. The employees here are really friendly too! This place has high quality ice cream and creative flavors (and the old standbys). When it opened I thought "finally a place near Medford that does not sell Richardsons ice cream"...not that there is anything wrong with Richardsons, but I grew up in Cambridge, near Toscaninis- so I like creative flavors and a high butterfat content. Hit or miss- some employees are sweet as the ice cream they serve and others are ... not. The price is definitely more than most places, but the food is good and it's convenient when you're shopping or just getting out of a movie. Definitely go here during non-peak hours or expect a line out the door. Also bathrooms are only one occupancy (which adds to the recommendation for non-peak hours). read more

This place was filthy, the bathroom was disgusting. The employees hate their job you can see it all their faces and attitude, and also one of the employee was throwing trash in the trash can and swiped her hands on the top of the trash and kept touching wiping her nose and was serving people Ice cream without washing her hands so I had to leave. read more

We ordered one each of espresso, lemon, and pistachio cannolis, walked around the corner and sat in a cool alley with a bench to enjoy them. The cream is very rich, sweet (2/3 would be enough! Very generous). The pastry is crispy and breaks easily when you bite into it (the paper is helpful to hold it together). Glad we came!

Their Chocolate Chip Cannolis and Amaretto Cannolis are my favorites! Their cannoli cream is always fresh & smooth while their shells are perfectly crispy. The variety of flavors is amazing. What's not to like?

I asked the employee working if they were a chain and she explained they are a chain local to Boston. She also shared the doughnuts are made fresh every morning. They had a display case with the donuts featured and they sure looked great. We were pleased to find the actual donuts looked even better than the display! Both of our donuts were huge and the frosting/filling proportions were generous. The menu consists of classics and then a featured monthly selection. I picked a classic doughnut: chocolate sprinkle. My husband went with a may selection: cherry jam Bismarck. We both loved our selections. My husband said cherry filling is rare and the flavor was spot on. To be honest my only regret after how delicious we found the donuts to be is not getting more.

The croissants were flaky and fresh and the latte was excellent. The food quality was exactly what you would expect from Tatte. The only issue was the cashier. She seemed more interested in her conversation with a coworker than helping us. She handed us some of our pastries but forgot the cookies we ordered and did not give us a bag for the desserts. After we waited for a few minutes she looked at us and asked what we were waiting for without saying thank you or acknowledging that the transaction was complete. When we told her we were still waiting for the rest of the pastries we ordered it felt a little awkward. Aside from that, the employees bringing food to the table were very kind, attentive, and pleasant. Overall the food and coffee were excellent. I would come back for the pastries and lattes, but hopefully the front counter service improves.
