Walking into this restaurant is like time traveling into the idyllic past of an old Western town eatery. The atmosphere pays tribute to veterans, firefighters, and law enforcement officers who serve our country. Badges and flags adorn the walls. The menu is extensive and the food is served with Western hospitality. The portions are large and the food cannot be faulted. Hot coffee, toasty toast with melted butter will grace your table. I really tried to control myself but when everything is so good, you want to keep chomping!

We couldn't wait to get in here! We love the food at the Rosamond location, and we're thrilled they came up to our Lil Mountain Town. We had the bacon breakfast burrito, and it is definitely the tastiest breakfast burrito in town. It had the perfect ratios, and the salsa was very complimentary and not overpowering. Our second visit was lunchtime I had the philly cheesesteak, and it was phenomenal! The service is always fast and friendly. Also, I have to give them a shout-out for having RED Friday Tshirts. We always support businesses that stand with Law Enforcement and our Military. Thank you for coming to Tehachapi, May God bless your business and family. read more

Our waitress was the sweetest lady. Me and my boyfriend both got meals. I had the homemade biscuits and gravy, and oh wow it's all homemade! So amazing. Also the hashbrowns on the side were thick and delicious. My boyfriend got the waffle combo with bacon and home fries. He was so so pleased. This place was so good and we will definitely be retuning very soon!! read more

Love the local support of law enforcement/fire and military that makes me want to go there in general. Food portions are huge and you can definitely share with someone. Very helpful and cheery staff which I value so much. Ambiance is a great family place to eat. read more

I was in there last week with my two brothers and sister N Law. Jamie, (the owner ) was something else. She had everyone in the place laughing and could tell that everyone in there place loved her, she was intuitive to each persons needs and truly made us fill that we are always welcome in her establishment. The food was also really good, hot and lots of it !! I will definitely go back to this place when I'm in town. Food, quantity and friendly atmosphere gets 5 stars from me !!! Service alone is 5 stars. The young woman who served myself and my wife this morning had a wonderful attitude and personality. The food was great and the serving sizes were HUGE. The price was about fair. The restaurant is clean and well kept. When we arrived there was a sign outside thanking first responders which I am and it made me feel good about going there. It's a kind of place you want to like because of what they stand for, but I just can't go anymore. The food is so inconsistent. One day you get something that is great and you order it the next time you are there and it's completely different. But the thing that I can't tolerate the most is the temperature. It is beyond freezing in there and they just don't seem to care. No more for me, and we went there pretty regularly. read more

The food is AMAZING!!!!! Giant portions, definitely worth the prices!!! My son had a grilled cheese and fries, said it was the best one he's ever had! I had a ginormous bacon and avocado omelette with homemade home fries, was absolutely delicious! And don't even get me started on the homemade biscuits and gravy! Our friends told us about a new breakfast spot that opened 7 months ago. They told us the food was the best they had in quite sometime. My wife and I decided to see why they were so excited about this small breakfast and lunch restaurant ( no dinner hours). We ordered the waffles and chicken and the avocado and cheese omelette we honestly could have shared one plate that's how much food they pile in your plate. The food is delicious, well seasoned and perfectly set on your plate. It's been our favorite go to place since our first visit in early September and have returned to try more of their offerings. My go to favorite now is the bacon, eggs, potatoes and hotcakes, you can't go wrong with this breakfast on a cold day specially with their tasty coffee (Farmer Bros). It's a bit pricey however the cost of 15.00 for my favorite go to breakfast of pancakes that include to 13" inch cakes which my wife and I split is well worth the indulgence. read more

Easily one of my favorite diners in all of tehachapi. On these cold early mornings they are open at 6am! 7 Days a week! I come and enjoy a nice hot coffee, sometimes a warm hot chocolate! Place has amazing food, Very well kept up with cleanliness, as well nice warm temperature inside to enjoy my food with during these cold times! Kudos to the J's Hideaway Staff For Giving us a great place to eat and feel welcomed in! read more

Great food, great service. Everyone was proactive and responsive, portions were large, taste and textures were excellent, we will definitely be back. About 10AM on a Sat, not too busy but 4-5 other parties there. We were seated quickly, ordered quickly, wait was normal for as busy as they were, food was great. First time I was offered a selection on type of cheese to have in a breakfast burrito (which was enormous). Can't wait to try other menu options. read more

The mom asks her what's up or something and she says "I've been here since 12:30 and I'm tired" Food was decent. Tasted home cooked. Portions were ok. Prices were reasonable. We may come back again when passing through. Someone should teach this young lady how to be courteous, friendly and welcoming. It seems like such a nice, old school place but she was such a turn off for our first time visit.

Tuesday, March 10th, we traveled to Bakersfield to pick up a vehicle I had purchased, and of course had to stop by Kohnen's. My wife and I split a Tuna and Cheddar Panini, and a loaded Turkey (we arrived too late for Sourdough!!). It is difficult to walk away without a mini-pie (try them all, but blackberry is freaking amazing!!). As always, Danelle was there with her typical congeniality and work ethic! We love her!! And I got to tell her about her doppelgänger in a restaurant in Yucaipa!! They do exist!! In summary, eat at Kohnen's!! Say hi to Danelle!

We both chose the red chili as our side and the plates came with cornbread. The four tableside BBQ sauces were all excellent as well. Meats were tender and flavorful, the red chili hearty, tasty, every spoonful satisfying, and the cornbread was moist and just the amount of sweet. We wished we had bigger squares of it. It can get real cold up in here in Tehachapi and they make sure it stays nice and warm in their restaurant. Even when they are swamped with customers, they get the food out very quickly.
