3 of the 4 fried green tomatoes that came with this appetizer, plus slaw and spicy sauce
    Susan E.

A group of adults and children celebrated my birthday with me on a recent weekday evening. We were seated in a windowed small and narrow room at the front of the building. The table was really too small for our group, but we made it work. Service was superb and well-timed. We started off with drinks and a couple of appetizers. Happy hour gave us the appetizers at half price and $1 off alcoholic drinks. Then we ordered dinner. One of the children in the group needed a gluten free meal, but the gf menu was for adults, so a burger was ordered without a bun. Everyone enjoyed their food, but I was unimpressed with one of the dishes everyone seems to have raved about: the blue crab spinach gorgonzola ravioli. While the ravioli and its accompanying sauce and parmesan flakes tasted good, the ravioli was overcooked and the presence of crab barely noteworthy in the dish. Two of us ordered this and neither of us was impressed. We had 2 desserts to share at the table, a warm blondie with ice cream and a gluten-free chocolate cake. Both were deemed excellent by the group. This is a great restaurant and we will return again soon.

Was so wonderful to bring out of town friends here. I've moved to South Austin so it's a pretty good hike up here. But SO worth it. The complimentary pimento cheese spread was so good. Dinner was not rushed and came out in a great speed. Our waitress was so friendly and none of our drinks were ever empty. It was a little more noisy than usual but it was a Friday night was well with many large parties. I had the charizo stuffed pork tenderloins with smashed taters and area fresh grilled vegetables. The wonderful thing about Jack Allen's besides the taste of the food is that they source locally. My friends both has the New York strip fried steak. They loved it. I had had it before and it is simply the best!! Cannot wait to come back again!

This might be my new favorite restaurant in north Austin. The food, drinks and service are always top tier. My favorites right now are the spicy mango margarita and the crab stuffed shrimp. The catfish appetizer is delicious as well. Absolutely no complaints!

There was a long line to get in for dinner on a Friday but we hang out by the bar until they called us. Our server, Luke, was absolutely the best! He provided my husband with a great recommendation and I loved my steak arugula salad. I was not a fan of the potato slices in the salad...pears would be such a better choice. I also ordered a mojito which was sooooo good! The dessert was incredible. Overall a great experience and the food was good. Nice choices for my daughter too!

Jack Allen's rocks Consistently outstanding food, fresh farm to table type atmosphere Bartenders provide outstanding service and make fantastic, cocktails, well balanced, and packing a punch The Texas redfish was an outstanding dish. A friend recommended it highly to me last time I was in, and I made a note to try it so glad I did. If you have not had this delicacy, you need to try it you will be thankful that you did. It is full of flavor. It is just simply scrumptiously delicious! Jam packed bar - NBA playoff game on TV All made for a great late afternoon meal

Spectacular service. Excellent birthday meal - we will be back! Kiddo's 14th birthday and he wanted a good burger and guacamole. Jack Allen's we said! The Fat Jack is always amazing! The crispy chicken sandwich was so flavorful, the crispy redfish was huge and delicious and their kids tenders were thoughtful and not just junk food. Their sweet potato fries and regular fries were excellent. The kids had sparkling blueberry lemonade mocktails and loved them. Mama added their habanero sauce to her fish and LOVED it. The guacamole is always excellent and (score) on Mondays they have happy hour all evening so we got it 1/2 price. They brought him a birthday dessert (he chose the blondie) and the family loved it. My husband got a cantarito drink and loved it. We will be back! Special thanks to Kayla and our amazing server Catalina! Thanks for making us feel so welcome on the heated patio. Please like my review and photos if you find them helpful!

I am a teacher, and they offer 50% off for teachers when you show your ID! The service was amazing, the restaurant is super cute, and the food was AMAZING. Their pepper cheese and margaritas were incredible. My favorite was definitely the blondie with ice cream for dessert. So, so, so yummy!

Jack Allen's is a restaurant you always get delicious food! There are always specials and if you don't see anything on the menu that fancies your cravings, there is always soup of the day. The service is usually exceptional, however there are times when it is a little slower but understand that is the exception. The restaurant always looks clean and organized. It breathes farm fresh.

A tasty treat for lunch. As interesting lunch menu with some characteristic menu twists I feel are noteworthy. Like the special of that day was a Philly Steak sandwich of sorts with deep fried jalapeño and stuff. It was good. The wife had a bowl of today's meatloaf soup (that was a new one). Again good. Server was good. I had dread on the menu that every team member knows everything. I tested ours on the familiar and unfamiliar faces on the walls in artwork. She knew them all or she was BS'n me on the one. All good. Good food, drinks and service. I will stop again if given the opportunity. CritDicks

I went with a large group And the staff was so kind and patient. We went on a Friday night so you can imagine how busy it was, but they made it feel like we were the most important. We ordered appetizers, drinks, and entrees. The jalapeño cornbread was delicious and a great shareable! The chips and guacamole are also a good option, especially for a large group. The mocktails were pretty good as well. For dinner I had the blacken shrimp enchiladas and it did not disappoint. It is so filling and if you want you could take a good portion home. I had a really great experience and would definitely return. Get there early because it a local favorite

What is on the brunch menu now that the buffet is closed?

We are currently serving our regular menu, but we have a brunch menu on the side. It includes five entrees such as chicken and biscuits, stuffed French toast, and barbacoa eggs Benedict.

Do your outside areas have heaters?

    Yes!

Can I take happy hour appetizers to go?

Yes, you can. JA's is pretty easy to get along with. But, as casual and relaxed as the atmosphere is, why leave early?!

The Bichota cocktail was a standout--sweet, refreshing, and with just enough of a kick to keep you sipping slowly. The Old Fashioned was equally impressive: sweet yet balanced, served in a stylish glass with a unique holder that made the experience feel elevated. For food, the chicharrón with fried yuca and tostones was perfection. The pork was fried to a crisp golden shell without being greasy, and seasoned just right--not too salty, but enough to make every bite crave-worthy. The yuca and tostones were cut to the perfect thickness for even cooking, with a satisfying crunch outside and tender inside, especially when dipped into their garlicky sauce. The cheese sticks are an absolute must-have--crispy outside, oozy inside, and dangerously addictive. And the arepas? Exceptionally good--stuffed with beans, cheese, beef, and sweet plantains for that perfect salty-sweet balance. Every plate showed attention to texture, seasoning, and presentation. Price Considering the quality of ingredients, creative plating, and generous portions, the prices felt fair for a fusion dining experience. The cocktails were crafted with care and worth every penny. I am so torn on this place. My friends and I were looking for a cute spot for a moms night out…read more(just 3 of us). We decided to make a reservation at Odds Bar and give it a try. Arrived right on time and the parking lot was PACKED, though the restaurant appeared nearly empty except for a loud networking event going on in a devoted side room open to the main area. No one at the desk to greet us, just a sign to seat ourselves, so we did. Guess reservations don't really matter? It was quite a while before anyone approached us, but when a server finally came he was very nice and helpful. We ordered drinks and entrees. It took an ABSURD amount of time before the drinks came out...maybe because of the event? Not sure. The bar and restaurant seemed nearly empty otherwise and the bartender didn't look busy or rushed at all. Luckily we had intended to make a night of it, so we were able to wait. It was hard to hear each other talk, though, due to the networking event. When the drinks finally came, mine was AMAZING. Like, one of the best drinks I've had in Austin, and maybe one of the best of my life? Weeks later I'm still thinking about it. I got the Going Bananas and it was simple perfection. The food also took a while to come out, but at least we had drinks to tide us over. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and was disappointed. The toppings were spare and didn't offer much to elevate the dish, and the chicken itself, while tasty, was very dry in parts, to the extent where I was dipping it in ketchup to get it to go down easy. The bun and fries were good. Our server seemed to have evaporated into thin air after delivering food, so we had no water refills and had to vye for attention to pay the check. Eventually the bartender came and helped us pay, and seemed terse and annoyed when we asked to split our check. (Three middle-aged women...seems more likely a split than combined?) All in all, we were there about 3 hours total, mostly because service took so long. Such a bizarre experience. I would NOT come here if you are on any kind of timeline. The only way I'll come back is to sit at the bar and have drinks only.

Wow, this place blind-sided me. An amazing experience in all facets. First, the restaurant is…read morebeautiful inside, so upscale and absolutely clean. Our server was Chase, who was very knowledgeable about the menu and took ownership of the whole experience. You can tell he enjoys being there. I got the off-menu All Day English Breakfast, which - shut the front door - was the best I've had in the Austin area. No puddings, and regular bacon instead of rashers, but otherwise super traditional and fantastic. The bangers stood out - YUM. We also got some candied bacon for fun which made the whole meal even more excessive, haha. It was superb, and a generous portion that the two of us easily shared. I'm hooked. Reasonable prices, great food, beautiful interior, fantastic service, easy parking. What a fun surprise to start 2026.
