An auspicious start to date night...we were supposed to have dinner at a restaurant and learned that it had closed. Plan B was to find another nearby restaurant...and so we did. Going through the Daniel Fast, we have a new appreciation for vegetarians and in even more so for vegans. Many places we have gone to during the Daniel fast has not been vegan friendly. Cracker Barrell Old Country Store did not have many vegan options. Understand that this restaurant is known for its down home cooking loaded with gravies, butter and bread. My hubby had a bake potato with green onion. I had grits. Not the most exciting dinner, but it hit the spot at the time. Cracker Barrel had everything from Valentines Day and Easter (Yes Easter!) to Christmas. If you wanted it, they had it. My hubby and I reminisced regarding the type of candy we ate as a child. Cracker Barrel had a wide variety of candy, clothing, cook wear and outerwear. They also now have their own rewards program. We noticed today that Cracker Barrel has its on branded goods...pretty cool. Their country store is always delightful. I'll first start off by saying how the hostess Emma walked into the bathroom stall with her apron on & the strings to the apron dragging all across the bathroom floor. Very disgusting & unsanitary. This place was extremely busy, but that's expected on a Sunday afternoon. We waited approximately 30 minutes before being seated & another 20 minutes for food. The fried chicken was SO hard, almost inedible. The fried apples were gritty & the hash brown casserole wasn't seasoned at all. I was really excited to try Cracker Barrel for the first time. I've heard mixed reviews over the years but never had the chance to go, so I took my two grandmas as a Christmas gift and we went for breakfast. The restaurant itself is very quirky and fun, and I liked the atmosphere right away. The host staff was friendly, and we were seated quickly. Our server, Jordana, came over promptly to take our drink order, which started things off well. Unfortunately, after that, the experience went downhill. When we ordered, she didn't ask how we wanted our eggs (all three of us ordered eggs). I asked if they had turkey sausage vs bacon since I don't eat pork, and she said she would check. I specifically asked her not to include any meat if turkey wasn't available. My grandma also requested toast instead of pancakes. While we were ordering, two other couples were seated on both sides of us. We then sat for about 20 minutes with no silverware, plates, or bread. The couples next to us, who were seated after us, received their bread, plates, and eventually their meals while we were still waiting. I finally asked another server to flag Jordana down. She said she was waiting on a new batch of bread for us. Two minutes later, the bread arrived, but still no plates. After flagging her down again for plates, I asked if our food order had been put in because at that point it felt like we had been forgotten. She said the kitchen was busy and it would be about another 15 minutes, even though the tables around us were already halfway done eating. About five minutes later, our food finally came out, but it was incorrect. My grandma received pancakes instead of the toast she asked for. I had bacon on my plate despite asking not to have any pork, and instead of the strawberry cream pancakes shown on the cover of the menu, I received plain pancakes. When I pointed out the menu photo, she brought out cut strawberries rather than the actual strawberry cream pancakes. To top it off, we didn't have maple syrup on the table despite having three pancake orders. When I asked for syrup, she brought one cup of blueberry syrup. I then had to ask again for regular maple syrup for all three of us. At that point, we were just ready to eat whatever we had and leave. The food itself was good, which is the only reason I'd consider returning, but definitely not to this location. I wouldn't want to risk having the same server again. Overall the experience was good. Our server, Liam did a great job keeping up with refills and our questions as we had them. He was good at keeping an eye on our needs. It was not too busy at around 6pm on a Sunday which was nice. We spent our Peg Points at the gift shop and found a few small things to take home from our experience. The service was awful, the condescending tone was worse, and we waited over an hour for food that should have been ordered correctly in the first place. In the past I've had some very mediocre experiences, but I'm happy to report that our breakfast meals were excellent, the server was excellent, and checking in online made getting a Sunday morning table easy. Being on a Sunday probably made it super crowded and very busy. It was loud and very cold inside. A lot of families with children but that's probably expected since it was a Sunday morning, we arrived around 9 Am and around 10:00 Am the people were outside lined up to come in, the parking lot was super crowded, that they even took the spaces that were just for the buses. Food was good, you had to eat fast because of the cold air blowing, made your food get cooler real fast. The server told us they pre-make everything to turn tables fast. Due to dietary restrictions we tried to order items without cheese and substitute the meats. We were told they no longer they do that since someone bought them out. What a shame! If you have dietary restrictions this is definitely not the place as it once was. This has always been one of our favorite restaurants. Last 2-3 visits, some of our food was not cooked enough. On our visit from 11/21/25, my Cinnamon Swirl French Toast was WONDERFUL! Worth every calorie! My husband ordered Country Favs Pot Roast, & the meat was tender, but the mashed potatoes were clumpy (not soft), like not cooked all the way through. Went with a group of 12 neighbor ladies for breakfast. Took a bit of time to be seated even though it wasn't crowded. 2 different tables which weren't even adjacent so not optimal for the group. Server was exceptional!! The other group had someone else. Breakfast menu online had very different prices than what was on the menu. Pleasantly surprised at the food prep and quality being as good as it was for us. Other locations have not been good experiences. Every seven years or so I get the urge to drive to the suburbs and sit down with the Republicans for a big ole pile of food. I'm willing to fight my way through the Kitschy gift store, then dive into the mayhem of Sunday afternoon at Cracker Barrel. And I'm lucky enough to have a friend who's willing to join me for the excursion. It was crowded. It was loud. Our waitress was nice but frazzled and overworked. She apologized for the temporary lack of cornbread, but she brought us a basket full of biscuits so we did not complain. Portions are huge, prices moderate, which is a nice change from a lot of places in Austin. My friend scarfed down all of her grits and most of her chicken dumplings, but packed up her loaded hash brown casserole to take home. I couldn't resist those biscuits and my coleslaw was very tasty, as were the mashed potatoes and gravy. I blame those biscuits for the fact that I couldn't get halfway through my four decent-sized pieces of fried chicken. The chicken was not super hot, right out of the fryer, but good fried chicken can survive that and mine survived nicely--especially since four pieces of bone-in chicken is a very generous portion. As much as we enjoyed the food, it was a relief to get out of there, since it was really loud and hectic. We both took home enough leftovers for a good start on dinner. Life is unpredictable and it may be another seven years before I get the urge to hit Cracker Barrel again. But maybe not! read more

I called the restaurant and it kept ringing. I ended up going into the restaurant. The workers Inside were friendly and helpful. Come to find out, my order was ready and waiting, but no one brought it out to us. The directions clearly said to wait in the car. I ended waiting an extra 20min and had to go inside myself. The food was good, but they also forgot to put in the sauces that I requested. I recommend you dine in and skip the curbside. The inside of the restaurant is cute too. Service has been fantastic the past few times I've gone to this location. Food is reliable. We just went to Cracker Barrel at exit 254 in round rock Texas. I asked for a third egg they indicated that it was $1.30, I said OK They came back and said it wasn't $1.30 it was 249 so I told them no I don't want the third egg because that translates to over $30 a dozen When they delivered breakfast, it had 3 eggs A girl came out and said that she would take it back, and I asked what she was going to do with it and she said she was going to take one egg off and I said what are you going to do with that egg and she said put it on another plate for someone Then the waiter came out and I told both of them wouldn't it be the easiest thing to do was to say we made a mistake with the third egg and they'll be no charge for it. Sorry about the inconvenience. But no these snowflakes and cupcakes said we will remake the whole plate And I said what sense does that make you're going to waste all of the food and my wife will have to sit here and eat her breakfast alone while I wait on mine. Based on the fiasco and the lack of any leadership between the servers and the manager who I spoke to, we simply said sorry we'll just go somewhere else, we got up to leave. As we got to the front door, a lady asked how our visit was and my wife indicated that it was pretty bad She asked why and we explained the fiasco and she said let me call the general manager. I'm thinking over what, an egg Our youth cannot handle a decision as to what to do with a plate and taking food off a plate from a customer and putting it on another customer's plate might be a violation of health code in the first- degree. More importantly, what does it say about any of the food that's coming from the kitchen that the servers would make that kind of a statement. Having had their general manager tell us that he was more concerned about their feelings than he was the fact that a customer had not been treated appropriately For some reason, he thought that it must be my responsibility to train their servers and their assistant managers, as opposed to being a customer who comes in, orders a meal, enjoys it and pays for it i'm not sure what he wanted me to do. Maybe it was to come in and build them a safe space in case anybody in the restaurant ever had a complaint. Anyway, now we know how cupcakes and snowflakes operate in this world without supervision they can't make a decision And when the general manager is more concerned about the waitress being upset with the customer, walking out the door and never coming back, any wonder why we have problems in this country and why the kids don't wanna work at a job in an office and can't deal with the fact that they don't know what to do with an extra egg? I apologize if I sound like a cupcake and complaining about this, but I suspect there are some people that will say this review is a crock of crap and there are others that will no longer go because they don't need this. I have had good pancakes all my life, but never have I had pancakes like these. OMG... how do they do it? The rock star, best waitress I have ever had, told me that it is a very strict formula and it's not just about the batter. You have to have to be trained on cooking the pancakes just right! You need the right kind of griddle, you have to press them down on the heat properly, you have to cook them perfectly --- an they actually have a machine to help them do it, it's an art. AND YES IT IS! WOWWWW, even the coffee was great. I walked out with two --- TWO boxes -- of pancake mix, each for $5 ... omg, I think I hit the jackpot. I am still eating it --conserving rations of Cracker Barel Pancake mix, hahaaaa. It's for special occasions people! RUN here, don't walk... and you need to be in calorie deficit before you step through those doors. BTW, the cashier guy -- seemed like a manager, was big smiled, warm, friendly and just so sweet. Also a little grandpa came up to our table and wished us well... just for the heck of it. I really had high hopes of getting to add a new brunch spot to my weekend rotation BUT Cracker Barrel just didn't make the cut. Came to Cracker Barrel for the 1st time on Sunday, 11/12/2023 really expecting great food since there's always a line outside of people waiting for a table but the food was just "okay" & the portions weren't that big. The basket of cornbread muffins given to us were cold & very dry. The other "eh" from our visit was that it felt disorganized w/ getting your table & was confusing once inside not knowing which line you need to be waiting in to check in w/ the host because it gets VERY crowded (Cracker Barrel also has a general store that you can buy from). I do have to say my alcoholic brunch drink was very tasty & did make me feel a little bit prettier;). You can join the waitlist online beforehand for a table BUT once you join there's no way to check where you are on the waitlist so when you get to the restaurant you might still have to be waiting for a while before a table is available. I love this place for Sunday breakfast! Put your name down with the host and browse their kitschy gift shop while you wait for your table. The wait is almost always shorter than what they quote. They told us 40 minutes but we were seated within 15. My fiancé and I each enjoyed the Momma's Breakfast: a stack of 3 fluffy, buttermilk pancakes (I get them topped with fresh strawberries), two eggs, and either breakfast sausage or bacon. The bacon was perfectly crispy but my over-easy eggs were a bit too runny in the egg white portion of the egg. Not to be missed are the hot and fresh buttermilk biscuits and the side of gravy. Ask your server for it. They're delicious! Service is great. Always quick, attentive, and friendly! Food portions are huge so you'll leave here very full and in need of a nap. read more
