An auspicious start to date night...we were supposed to have dinner at a restaurant and learned that it had closed. Plan B was to find another nearby restaurant...and so we did. Going through the Daniel Fast, we have a new appreciation for vegetarians and in even more so for vegans. Many places we have gone to during the Daniel fast has not been vegan friendly. Cracker Barrell Old Country Store did not have many vegan options. Understand that this restaurant is known for its down home cooking loaded with gravies, butter and bread. My hubby had a bake potato with green onion. I had grits. Not the most exciting dinner, but it hit the spot at the time. Cracker Barrel had everything from Valentines Day and Easter (Yes Easter!) to Christmas. If you wanted it, they had it. My hubby and I reminisced regarding the type of candy we ate as a child. Cracker Barrel had a wide variety of candy, clothing, cook wear and outerwear. They also now have their own rewards program. We noticed today that Cracker Barrel has its on branded goods...pretty cool. Their country store is always delightful. I couldn't resist this cute little Christmas stuffed animal (70% off...yep my shopping love language).

Overall the experience was good. Our server, Liam did a great job keeping up with refills and our questions as we had them. He was good at keeping an eye on our needs. It was not too busy at around 6pm on a Sunday which was nice. We spent our Peg Points at the gift shop and found a few small things to take home from our experience. We shall be returning again, unfortunately the only one close to us is about 40 mins away so it's not a regular stop, but when we go it's nice.

I haven't been to a Cracker Barrel in years and had breakfast today. What a pleasant surprise! In the past I've had some very mediocre experiences, but I'm happy to report that our breakfast meals were excellent, the server was excellent, and checking in online made getting a Sunday morning table easy. I'm glad they didn't modernize the interior of this restaurant. It's still got the old American whimsy we all grew up with at Cracker Barrel. I will definitely be back!

I have not been to Cracker Barrel in over a year. So decided to go and glad I did. So delicious and new food changes. Liz our server was wonderful and so attentive even with a packed place. Went during breakfast it was packed and felt like a family reunion eating breakfast. The food was so good a wonderful experience.

Being on a Sunday probably made it super crowded and very busy. It was loud and very cold inside. A lot of families with children but that's probably expected since it was a Sunday morning, we arrived around 9 Am and around 10:00 Am the people were outside lined up to come in, the parking lot was super crowded, that they even took the spaces that were just for the buses. Food was good, you had to eat fast because of the cold air blowing, made your food get cooler real fast. Next time we are in Round Rock, we will go on a weekday to see if there's a difference

Service was good - rainbow trout and seasoned rice (2) - they ran out of rice! Replaced it with steak fries and fried apples. A bit of a wait for the rice - which they could not make in a reasonable time.

Was a pretty slow night for a change which we thought would be nice. We were first taken a back with 2 small paper menus. We asked for the normal menus and were told they don't do those anymore. I questioned again about the nice, food out menus with a million wonderful options and was rudely told " I said we ain't got those!" So we ordered our meals and they were half the size of normal portions. My husband questioned our meals and were told they were the early bird meals. We advised we did not order off the early bird. He walked away. Our waitress came back and I asked why we got early bird meals and she "assumed that what we wanted because of our age". No words after this. The meal was so so, like all of it had been sitting out. We told the cashier on the way out after she asked how everything was and her reply was "ok" Won't be back!

Every seven years or so I get the urge to drive to the suburbs and sit down with the Republicans for a big ole pile of food. I'm willing to fight my way through the Kitschy gift store, then dive into the mayhem of Sunday afternoon at Cracker Barrel. And I'm lucky enough to have a friend who's willing to join me for the excursion. It was crowded. It was loud. Our waitress was nice but frazzled and overworked. She apologized for the temporary lack of cornbread, but she brought us a basket full of biscuits so we did not complain. Portions are huge, prices moderate, which is a nice change from a lot of places in Austin. My friend scarfed down all of her grits and most of her chicken dumplings, but packed up her loaded hash brown casserole to take home. I couldn't resist those biscuits and my coleslaw was very tasty, as were the mashed potatoes and gravy. I blame those biscuits for the fact that I couldn't get halfway through my four decent-sized pieces of fried chicken. The chicken was not super hot, right out of the fryer, but good fried chicken can survive that and mine survived nicely--especially since four pieces of bone-in chicken is a very generous portion. As much as we enjoyed the food, it was a relief to get out of there, since it was really loud and hectic. We both took home enough leftovers for a good start on dinner. Life is unpredictable and it may be another seven years before I get the urge to hit Cracker Barrel again. But maybe not!

I was so impressed that you get a salad, side and warm bread INCLUDED in the price of the meal! In high end steak restaurants now, you have to pay separately for your salad, your side, everything. Saltgrass makes many items in house- dressings, desserts etc. Their ranch dressing was so good- perfect really. And they did not over dress the salad. The warm bread was very good and the peach tea was outstanding. If you want a nice steak dinner and do not want to pay $70 for just the steak, I highly recommend Saltgrass. Solidly good food for a more than reasonable price.

It tasted like a frozen burger. For the price they could have done a hand formed decent burger. I didn't order the $20 burger because that's just too much meat (1/2 lb). Hubby ordered the filet $37, he thought it was good, but over priced. You get some yummy mashed potatoes but no side salad or veggies. Hmmm! We also ordered the happy hour deviled eggs. They covered them in what I think was chili powder. The filling itself was good but getting a mouthful of chili powder was off putting. The waiter was really good. He kept our drinks full. The Bichota cocktail was a standout--sweet, refreshing, and with just enough of a kick to keep you sipping slowly. The Old Fashioned was equally impressive: sweet yet balanced, served in a stylish glass with a unique holder that made the experience feel elevated. For food, the chicharrón with fried yuca and tostones was perfection. The pork was fried to a crisp golden shell without being greasy, and seasoned just right--not too salty, but enough to make every bite crave-worthy. The yuca and tostones were cut to the perfect thickness for even cooking, with a satisfying crunch outside and tender inside, especially when dipped into their garlicky sauce. The cheese sticks are an absolute must-have--crispy outside, oozy inside, and dangerously addictive. And the arepas? Exceptionally good--stuffed with beans, cheese, beef, and sweet plantains for that perfect salty-sweet balance. Every plate showed attention to texture, seasoning, and presentation. Price Considering the quality of ingredients, creative plating, and generous portions, the prices felt fair for a fusion dining experience. The cocktails were crafted with care and worth every penny. Appetizers could easily be shared, making it easy to get variety without breaking the bank. Environment We sat outside and it was amazing for groups, dates, and inside it is super cool. The décor is not fancy but really fun Austin style. There is a section bar where they play music which I want to try. Service The service was cool and amicable. It looks the server was new but he did give recommendations. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great pairing suggestions. Dishes came out at a good pace, and drinks were refreshed quickly. You could tell the staff was proud of the food they were serving, which made the whole experience even better. Overall: If you're looking for a place where Latin flavors meet creative execution, this spot is worth the visit. Come hungry, order a mix of small plates, and don't skip the cocktails--or the garlic sauce.

Arrived right on time and the parking lot was PACKED, though the restaurant appeared nearly empty except for a loud networking event going on in a devoted side room open to the main area. No one at the desk to greet us, just a sign to seat ourselves, so we did. Guess reservations don't really matter? It was quite a while before anyone approached us, but when a server finally came he was very nice and helpful. We ordered drinks and entrees. It took an ABSURD amount of time before the drinks came out...maybe because of the event? Not sure. The bar and restaurant seemed nearly empty otherwise and the bartender didn't look busy or rushed at all. Luckily we had intended to make a night of it, so we were able to wait. It was hard to hear each other talk, though, due to the networking event. When the drinks finally came, mine was AMAZING. Like, one of the best drinks I've had in Austin, and maybe one of the best of my life? Weeks later I'm still thinking about it. I got the Going Bananas and it was simple perfection. The food also took a while to come out, but at least we had drinks to tide us over. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and was disappointed. The toppings were spare and didn't offer much to elevate the dish, and the chicken itself, while tasty, was very dry in parts, to the extent where I was dipping it in ketchup to get it to go down easy. The bun and fries were good. Our server seemed to have evaporated into thin air after delivering food, so we had no water refills and had to vye for attention to pay the check. Eventually the bartender came and helped us pay, and seemed terse and annoyed when we asked to split our check. (Three middle-aged women...seems more likely a split than combined?) All in all, we were there about 3 hours total, mostly because service took so long. Such a bizarre experience. I would NOT come here if you are on any kind of timeline. The only way I'll come back is to sit at the bar and have drinks only.
