My server, Alisa, was very friendly and very polite and answered my questions about a few dishes. After placing my order Alisa asked if I had any food allergies which was considerate. There were several TVs on the walls playing various sports and news programs. You couldn't hear the programs though as there was music playing on overhead speakers. It wasn't overly loud though. This is a perfectly serviceable restaurant. For something attached to a hotel, it's much better than it has any right to be. For fifty dollars, you can get yourself a bison burger, a french onion soup, and a giant butter tart. My take away is that the burger is alright. There's no sauce to make it feel like something spectacular. It's just bison on a bun. Which isn't bad, it's just not special. The french onion soup does what it needs to, but there's no real powerful flavour. It plays it safe. Which is probably the best way to appeal to a wide audience, but never be marked the best. There are some frozen ones you can microwave in five minutes that compare, if not defeat this one. But, it's a step up from fries for only four dollars more. The butter tart was ten bucks, and it should have been the crowning glory. It was alright. It's 1000 calories of alright. There's some ice cream on it, and it's doing its thing, and the hard sides were nice. But, the other desserts beat it by a mile. The staff though, they're superb! They're doing amazing jobs, keeping spirits high, and taking care of all the tables to provide everyone with a grand experience. I would 100% come back here again. It's not the best. Although we weren't staying at the Doubletree hotel that this restaurant is connected to, the menu looked interesting so we decided to give it a try. It doesn't feel at all like a "hotel restaurant" - it has a separate entrance and has a sports bar sort of vibe. I noticed immediately that our hostess and waitress were very friendly. They have quite a few specialty drinks, I got the Port Carling Cooler and loved it, and also had a taste of the Strawberry Basil Breeze which I thought was pretty good. For my meal I had the Garden Burger (their veggie burger). Everything on it was great, particularly the turmeric mayo, but the burger itself was just okay. Good texture-wise, but not a lot of flavour. Drinks took a minute to come out but the food came out super fast! The food was decent (wings were pretty good), but absolutely one of the worst service experiences I've ever had in a restaurant in my entire life. Three of us came in for lunch and when we arrived there was nobody else there. Waitress came over and took our initial order, but sadly that's where any level of activity that could remotely be considered service ended. She literally never came back....once...ever...not even to check on us. We each ordered wings and a beer, which shouldn't be that difficult. After the food runners brought the food nobody ever came back. We had to flag down a busboy to ask for a 2nd round of drinks. After several minutes half of us got another drink, the other did not (and ultimately everyone was charged for two.) Once we were done we then had to fight twice for our checks, once to another server and finally one of us went over to the bar and told the original server we were leaving. she finally brought the checks, which half had to be corrected for the 2nd round of drinks that never came. We finally paid and left. From the time we sat down, ordered, ate our food, got half a second round, and finally got the checks, paid, and left, was 2 hours and 3 minutes of our lives that we'll never get back....Absolutely unacceptable under any circumstances, but certainly not when it's not very busy. To add insult to injury, there were a couple groups of small children (3-5 years old), who were running amok throughout the restaurant, climbing on other patrons seats, running into their tables, etc., without a parent in sight, and staff did not seem to care either. This was clean, well cared for & very nicely designed. Now to the food...chicken fingers we're mine. They were simply the BEST chicken fingers I'd ever had. They were cooked to perfection & rightly sauced but the sauce was SUPER Hot!! The server was smart enough to take them back to the for a quick re-fry & that lessened the sauce. I'm so happy this restaurant was located at the hotel we were staying at. We went back two hours later and ordered more food ( after our workout). The service was great. It's got the pub/bar feel and is very low key. There are lots of big screen tvs and they conveniently have phone charging stations at the bar. They have daily specials on drinks and I was tempted to order one. I'm on a restrictive diet and was very particular about my order. I got the blackened chicken baked on top of plain greens with goat cheese. The dish came with a generous amount of goat cheese. The chicken was well seasoned and tasty. My second dish was greens salad w/o dressing with shrimp (made without butter or oil) seasoned. It was really good. My family ordered chicken wings, slightly breaded, with Thai chili sauce ( really good) chicken parmesan, fish tacos, shrimp penne pasta, chicken pesto with vegetables and the chicken fajitas. The reason for the four stars: 1. Fish tacos not seasoned. It was very plain; 2. It took too long to get our food ( group of six); 3. The food orders came in a reasonable manner despite we were a big party. I have ordered the BISON MEATLOAF. The meatloaf was wrapped with bacon, which was placed on top of delicious mashed potato, topped with crispy onions. For a person who has never had bison before, I would say it tasted similar to beef. We haven't been to Turtle Jack's since it first opened so we wanted to check it out . Great atmosphere and the staff were so so friendly . We weren't wowed by the entrance and hostess waiting area. It seemed too cramped and close to the annoying sliding exit door. But everything else was just wonderful. Our waitress had the same name as my wife and it was a great meal. We shared the new Beet, Sweet Potato and Kale salad with pea shoots, spiced pumpkin seeds and goat cheese in a balsamic vinaigrette . Very tasty. We ordered a Chicken Parmesan with pappardelle pasta in a tomato cream sauce. The mozzarella was melted beautifully and had a light crust. I had the Bison Meatloaf. It was bacon wrapped and had a demi-glace. It also came with onion straws , vegetables and Yukon mashed potatoes. The sauce was a perfect compliment to the dish. Nice open environment with high top tables, kind of a sports bar feel without the TVs. Decent wine selection. Nice variety on the menu. I chose the Hunters Chicken. With a couple other colleagues, and 3 dishes looked great when they arrived. The sauce on mine was scrumptious and the mashed potatoes were real. Green beans al dente and great with the sauce. Unfortunately, the chicken part of the dish was uneventful. Not much flavor, somewhat dry and there were a couple crispy (aka burnt tasting) bites. Very few, but they did happen. read more

The breakfast buffet in the morning for the hotel was not super. The food was sometimes cold and not great tasting. However, the restaurant for lunch and dinner was really good. This was our first time visiting this chain. Must say I was pleased with the food and service. For a family of 4 the bill was not all that bad. We had the Hellof a burger, backyard bbq burger, chicken fajitas and a classic burger. All were good. Word of caution...the desserts are good, we shared a brownie and fire and ice, but they are huge!!!! All 4 of us could have split just one of those desserts. If I could give it negative stars I would. My colleague and I went here for dinner tonight. The hostess was nice and our waitress was nice. She was even helpful with meal suggestions. It ends there. We both ordered "Old Fashioneds" for our drinks. They were horrible. The first taste we both experienced was water. He stirred his up but I did not. They were not weak- I am convinced that neither had any alcohol. Meanwhile we had ordered dinner waiting on our drinks that took about 10 minutes to show up. Dinner show up. He ordered the Tuna Poke Bowl. As he lives in California he enjoys these. He didn't finish his. I ordered the Bison meatloaf. There was no doubt that it had been made long ago and sat somewhere, drying out, in a warming tray. The bacon wrapped around it was old and dry. I really think the Bison meatloaf that they served me would have been very good the day before. Meanwhile we cannot get our waitresses attention for anything. This is the Turtle Jacks attached to the Doubletree on Dixon. I would urge to to go anywhere else to get food just not here. One day I hope Yelp will allow negative stars. We went to Turtle Jack's two times in two days while we were in Toronto (the restaurant was located in our hotel, so it was convenient). When it comes to service, I would give them 5 stars. When it comes to food and drinks, I would give 1. So I'll settle with 3 stars. Our waitresses and the manager were all SO lovely. Very very nice people, and VERY accommodating and understanding. However, I felt bad having to call them over to our table on both occasions due to drinks being messed up, food being cold, and orders taking over an hour to come to our table (when we were the only ones in the restaurant). I am RARELY ever one to complain to the wait staff about my food or drinks being messed up, but it was definitely a big enough issue to speak up. :( The food was a major bummer, but service has got their stuff together! Hopefully management can see where the flaws are and work this place out to be a better establishment. Food & drink quality assurance is a must need!! read more

Had to leave another restaurant as we weren't getting any service. Needless to say that we probably arrived a tad annoyed but we quickly changed our tune after the fantastic service we received here. Before we even ordered our food the server provided the kids with veggie sticks and apples to much on while we waiting for our dinners to arrive. We ordered the 4 cheese pasta, the fajitas and kids had chicken fingers and burgers. My husband was so happy with the pasta - and he's Italian! My fajitas were very good as well, and the portion a very good size. I'll have it for lunch today too! What blew me away though was our server's friendliness and service level. I'd say that was probably the best service we have ever had at a restaurant! Gesel, thank you for everything and I hope your management team realizes that you are a keeper!! I like this location. Near a few airport hotels i stay at. It seems the bar area is for employees to hang out at... lots of talk of dates, what you did last week. Etc. The food is good. This restaurant has the potential to kill it in the area... BTW. Stay away from the -door side of the bar in the winter... it is freezing cold. read more
