A great sports bar that is always a staple chain restaurant. Came here for the hockey game and it was packed to the brim - as expected. We surprisingly got a seat with a table of 8 and got drinks quickly. We mainly got drinks here and only a round of nachos to share since we came late. Got the nachos layered and it was okay. The review really is to emphasize the vibes here, as they still had their holiday lights dangled around the restaurant and everyone that was here was in a great mood (mainly because the Canadian hockey team won!). After the game, the restaurant cleared out super quickly and we were one of the only 5 tables left in the restaurant. I liked how crispy it was, I guess... and the fries were good (but how can you mess up fries?). I was really hungry though, but I honestly could have saved the time and went to McDonald's. Ambiance is loud sports bar... depends what you like and AC is pumping in the summer. Service is not good and servers expect 20% tip on their below average service. When I tipped 13% in cash on terrible service, the server proceeded to ask "any more cash for tip?" Please train your employees in manners. Since so many other sports bars exist, Jack Astors is now a pass for me, would not recommend unless you just want great chicken fingers and fries! read more

As things are reopening, we decided to eat out again. Dropped here last weekend for lunch. We are glad to see they are doing a pretty good job with physical distancing and sanitizing. The wait time was about 35 minutes to get a patio table. Our server was nice, and prompt and apologized at the very beginning for the limited items menu (though we found the menu to be quite satisfactory). I had the Memphis Steak, my wife went for the Steak Fritters. Both were ok, may be a little dry. The presentation was nice for the Memphis. The veggies were crunchy. read more

I. AM. DISAPPOINTED! Why? Because of the new menu changes that they made. I ordered steak frite, and I KNOW what I would be getting when the food arrives as that's usually what my boyfriend ordered whenever we visited a Jack Astor. The steak frite was SUPPOSED to be sliced steak cooked to your order, paired with garlic fries and choice of two sauces from their list. But what did I get in return after this menu change? A blob of steak and PLAIN BLEH FRIES! No more garlic, and not even the sauces that I would be getting when it clearly stated in the menu. I didn't even recall our server asking me what sauce I wanted. Yes, I didn't bother asking about the sauces afterwards as it was busy. I did question though, when my food was brought up, I looked at it weirdly and asked what is it that you are bringing to me 'cause I clearly ordered steak frit. Yet, the server who brought my food up asked the closest server if that's what he had in his hand, and the serves said yes. I was shocked. I would definitely not coming back. read more

The service was quite slow. Our appetizer came out quickly, but our mains took forever. We had the calamari - it tasted very bland, even the dipping sauce couldn't save it. I had the fish and chips - the fries were cold and the fish had no flavour. The serving size is good for the price but all you're really getting is mediocre food in terms of taste and quality. We had the peanut butter brownie in a mug for dessert, which looked better than it tasted. The brownie was overcooked, hard, and flavourless. Went for dinner with my son. The place was recently renovated, it looked good and it was busy. I wished the host put us at a mini booth for 2, there were lots of them empty. The place is uncomfortably loud, my son who is sensitive to noise, he hated it. He couldn't even enjoy his meal. He doesn't have this problem at most restaurants. Our server Kass was great, she was attentive, fast and had great recommendations. All of her suggestions were delicious. The food was came surprisingly quick, the chicken tacos and the southwest poutine were amazing. Another problem was that they were showing a movie/show that had scenes of killing and some gore on one of the tvs which was in my 7 year old son's field of vision. The fries were dusted in Parmesan and herbs while I ordered the mushroom sauce over my steak! It literally melted in my mouth! As far as Jack Astor's go this is likely the worst location I have frequented. Not sure what's going on with the host/s at this particular location but the other reviews are definitely experiencing what I did as well. We arrived and were told that if you wanted a booth you would have to wait maybe 20 minutes and we said sure. Over 45 minutes went by and when we asked what's going on the response we got was "well people are still sitting so we're not going to kick them out for you" It's to be noted that I never asked anybody to be kicked out all I asked was it's been twice the amount of time you asked us to wait.... How much longer can we expect because the kids in our party are now getting hungry. Also there were over six of them hanging out at the front flirting making jokes with each other none of them really doing their job to actually keep us informed and say hey looks like it's going to take a little bit longer would you like a table instead? I love Jack Astors food, especially the pan garlic bread, it has lots of flavour and is just amazing! On a typical Friday or Saturday there is always a wait for a seat but is never too long. Our waitress last night was super on top of the ball, except the pop came back diet but it seems everywhere we ask for lime they assume it's diet because alot of restaurants use that to tell the difference between regular and diet. I had the steak, it was my first time trying it, it comes with two sides, the baked potato was huge and good and the steak was OK, wasn't excellent but wasn't a steakhouse either. My boyfriend got the steak fajita like he always does, and it was excellent. It is always a hit and miss, sometimes it's really delicious and other times it barely has the meat cooked. I also find that MOST of the Jack locations are the same but then there are a couple who seem to follow their own ways the food is similar but not the same.. The line up to sit was crazy, we waited about 45 mins to get seated and that too we got the restaurant over the bar. the service was okay, managing for how busy the restaurant was, but it was more "flag me down when you decide" instead of "what can I get you today?" the food came out in a timely manner along with our drinks. The server was very interested in pitching a job there to us, letting us know how much he makes a year in tips (total turn off from the restaurant). Considering my bot so good experience at this location, I went again for a second and final chance at this location. We arrived on a busy Saturday night, were told that there is a 45 minutes wait which was normal considering how busy the place is. We waited for about 10 minutes and we were called to the table, so that went better than expected. In terms of 'service' which It was a major flaw last time, it has improved dramatically, our server Rick was on point, professional and helpful. The food though seems to be going down in quality time after time at this location. We ordered Nachos with Chicken to start, the Chips were stale, the cheese they now use seem to be some cheap slices chess, none of that original mozzarella mix! Few pieces of chicken, and it literally had only few of the other toppings! I had to fish for the peppers, tomatoes, etc... I also ordered a NewYork steak, I asked for a baked potato to replace my mashed potato, and server said I Can't do that?! Why not? Not sure! My mashed potato had ZERO seasoning and tasted very flat! My steak that I ordered medium rare came more of a medium/medium well. Side of vegetables were simply steamed vegetables with zero flavour and seasoning! We also ordered salad with chicken, again zero flavour, flat dressing! Jack's used to be the leader in this category of restaurants! Whatever happened to your menu, your flavours! We get our server 'Jeff' very quickly, greeted us and took our drinks and appetizers order. And that was the last time we ever saw or heard from Jeff. This guy was M.I.A , at least on our table as he was serving other tables all around us. After about 15-20 minutes, I had to stop one of the guys walking out of the kitchen, since I can't find my server! And told him about the appetizer, which then came out fairly quick after I asked..about 5 minutes. Then the drinks never came, I had to hunt another server 'Sarah' and asked for the drinks that never came and to locate and call my server! Again, the server never came! However, Sarah took over our table after that as advised by the assistant manager on shift. Who came and personally apologized for the experience, and offered us some discounts, which was a good touch from him. Sarah on the other hand, was an example of what a great server is...professional and treat her guests with a smile, very helpful, friendly and aware of the menu inside out! Had a business lunch here yesterday. It was a very busy Friday but we were there early enough to be ahead of the crowd. I ordered the Jack Astors Garlic Bread (didn't know that a full loaf is 800 calories!!!) as the appie. I also ordered a basic salad with chicken. This one fits the bill the steaks here are OK and they have humongous multi-panel screen. Beer selection is limited so I ended up with Stella. The Steak was grilled to our liking and the meat was good (at these prices we were not expecting miracles). There is no cover for UFC and this place does get packed. I rarely go to Jack Astor's, probably about a few times a year. When I go, I always enjoy the food and I try to order different things every single time but the ONE ITEM I especially love is the Bruschetta they have that's under the appetizers section. Hands down the best bruschetta I've ever eaten. I always order it. This place is usually crowded, sometimes I have to wait 20-30 minutes for a table. I really enjoy the vibe of the restaurant. It's very loud but everyone who works there is so upbeat and happy that I do not mind it at all. They also make birthdays especially loud with their birthday song but I like it. If you don't like loud environments, this is probably not the place for you. Overall, I enjoy coming to Jack Astor's because the food and the service is always great! read more
