An excellent lunch! We ordered the Shawarma Bowl, the Freekeh Bowl, and a Grilled Veg. Sandwich. The bread was crispy on the outside and freshly baked and the bowls were surprisingly tasty. We sat outside on this nice autumn day and were treated to excellent friendly service and excellent lunch. Ill be back to see what's good for breakfast.
I came here awhile back for a yelp elite event and finally made it back with a friend for weekend brunch. First off weekends here are insane and it takes awhile to get a table. They do not take reservations. So this is a bit weird as there is no table service. You order at the register and your food is brought out to the table. So technically there is no need for tipping as you don't actually get full service. I ordered a beet cleanse juice and it was pretty good and a decent size for shy of $10. I ordered the lamb gyro which was huge however a huge pet peeve of mine is when they wrap and roll the waxed paper and foil into the sandwich. I had to completely unroll it to be able to eat the gyro without eating waxed paper or foil. That was extremely messy but still a good sandwich. For $13 it was a nice size but definitely should come with type of side. My friend ordered the tuna melt which 95% of it ended up on his plate as he took the first bite as the cheese was barely melted if at all. He said it was good but each bite more and more of it fell apart and was a struggle to eat like a normal sandwich. He ended up eating it with his fork. We ordered a fry to share and they needed salt which took a while for us to flag someone down for salt and pepper as they are not on the table. Also it was extremely tight fitting the tables are right on top of one another. I will say that the food is good just prepare for long waits and to be smushed and getting in and out of the tables is tight.
I came across this gem in Wayne, NJ. It's in a strip mall, not large, but the food and service are exceptional. The host staff were super friendly, accommodating, and were accurate with the wait times. The restaurant has exemplary service and I really enjoyed the presentation of every item. Even the water was presented in a nice carafe with mint leaves. Paying attention to the details made a big difference in the enjoyment of the meal. My Chai Tea Latte was very good and beautifully created. Even the cup was unique, as you'll see in the photo. The main selections were, as follows: Freekeh Bowl (Freekeh base, arugula, avocado, chicken kabob, grilled vegetables, chick peas, cherry tomato, and hummus). I cannot give enough kudos to this bowl. It was fresh, LARGE, filling, and every ingredient was an absolute delight to enjoy. This was the first time that I had "Freekeh." In case anyone is curious if it's better than rice, here you go: Yes, freekeh is generally considered more nutritious and healthier than rice. It boasts more fiber, protein, iron, and other minerals compared to both white and brown rice. Freekeh also tends to have a lower glycemic index, which can be beneficial for blood sugar control. The next item was the Avocado Toast (avo mash, roasted tomato, fried egg, feta, sourdough). The last item was Egg & Cheese. The buttery bread was incredible, as well as the generous amount of both egg and cheese. I am very glad, that I visited Jackie Smalls, and recommend it to every Yelper.
I didn't even make it out of the parking lot. I just took down a whole bag of fries and a chicken Shawarma in like seven minutes. I've been wanting to try this place for a year, but I usually go grocery shopping on Sunday so I always miss the opportunity to go. I will be grocery shopping on Saturday from now on so I can continue to get Jackie smalls.
i've been a huge fan of jackie's grillette in montclair forever so it was finally time for me to try jackie smalls. the menu is really similar to the other locations but its smaller (duh) and brunchier. the BLTA was one of the best sandwiches i've had and we will definitely be back to eat the heavenly bread again. i have to say i was disappointed in the shakshuka though. i didn't enjoy the flavor profile of the spices and i had agita all afternoon. i'm obviously alone in this opinion due to the rave reviews and even my husband devoured the whole dish and loved it, but if you have a more sensitive tummy i would pick something else!
I've been to Jackie Smalls a few times now. The food is always really good and the staff is nice, but I can never QUITE get there with it because of the environment/location. I decided to stop by yesterday (a Friday) for lunch a little after 1pm. I'm in Little Falls basically one town over, and yet it's rare I drive into Wayne. Honestly, it's one of my least favorite activities - there's always a ton of traffic, a gazillion stoplights, and what on paper should be a 10-minute drive is closer to 20 to 25 minutes. It's just the worst. Jackie Smalls didn't invent Wayne, but it's tough to summon up the enthusiasm for the place when the journey to get there isn't pleasant. And that for sure includes the chaotic parking lot it's in, right next to the Whole Foods. Jackie Smalls is sort of tucked away in the back, which means you also have to drive across/through most of the parking lot to get there. Yesterday wasn't too bad in that regard, to be fair, though the area immediately in front of Jackie's was pretty crowded and I opted to park closer to Valley Road instead and walk a little longer. No big deal. I'll take my steps where I can get them. Jackie Smalls is the right name - it's a pretty tiny establishment with minimal seating. Every time I've attempted to come here (and I'll admit, it's almost always during what should be a normal/busy time), there has never been sit-down table availability and yesterday was no different. They also get a ton of pick-up order traffic, so the entrance area is constantly busy. As soon as I saw the situation, I went up to the counter and ordered the Breakfast Burrito and a Blueberry Scone to go instead of rolling the dice and putting my name in for a seat. So it goes. The gentleman at the counter was very nice though, which to me was notable given that he was clearly super busy and juggling a handful of obligations. And the scone was provided immediately, so I at least had that to munch on while I sat near the door and waited for the burrito. The scone was good; probably my favorite characteristic of a good scone is sugar granules on the top, and this had that in spades. Decent size and consistency, and while it was a little crumbly, that goes with the territory. The only part I wasn't crazy about (and this is a personal preference) is that I don't like fruit scones where the berry inside is liquid/melting. Not an ideal texture for me. But I'd get this one again, and from what I recall, they usually have a few other edgy options that I was probably too late in the day for. A strong pastry game overall, which is a big benefit when you have a lot of casual walk-in traffic there to just grab a quick coffee. The burrito was ready to go within 10 minutes, noteworthy given how busy it was; whatever is happening behind the scenes is working. This was the one savory item on the menu that really jumped out at me because I'm not a big Mediterranean cuisine person, and it's a tasty one. The decision to bypass a meat in favor of potatoes gives it an interesting texture (though calorically, it might be a wash, but I don't think anyone eating a burrito has any business making direct eye contact with a scale any time soon) and the cheddar cheese provides an important moistness given that this doesn't have any condiments/sauces inside. I can completely understand why this place has almost universally perfect ratings; when the food and service are high quality, it's hard to go wrong. But for me, the congestion both inside and outside this place is just enough of a deterrent where it's honestly going to be a while before I come back. I'm rooting for them to get a second, more convenient location.
After my previous amazing experience at Jackie Smalls, I could not wait to stop there on my next visit to the area. I placed a pick-up order for a Freekah Bowl and a Drip Coffee with almond milk, which was quickly ready in about 20 minutes. I enjoyed my rich, creamy coffee as I rushed home to enjoy my lunch meal. The ride home was challenging, as the smells wafting out of the bag were tantalizing me. Once I got home, I took the bowl out of the bag and was in awe of how delicious it looked. The dish included a freekeh base, which was topped with arugula, avocado, grilled vegetables (zucchini, squash, etc.), chickpeas, cherry tomatoes, and hummus. It was also supposed to contain chicken kabob, but since I always have chicken at home, I asked to substitute that with the spiced cauliflower shawarma, which I had adored on my previous visit. Wow...the bowl was filling and simply delicious! I was just amazed at how fresh and flavorful everything was at Jackie Smalls. The place is really a must-try!! read more

When I walked in I instantly felt refreshed. The decor gives such a clean look. I ordered at the counter and took a seat. They gave me a number to put up at my table so they could bring my food to me. They brought mint water to the table, now that was refreshing. I ordered a cappuccino which went perfect with my French toast. The syrup they provide is delicious! The French toast was a good portion. I couldn't even finish it. The tiny pieces of pistachio were a perfect touch. The service was top tier! I will def be returning to try another coffee and dish. read more

Really debating whether I should give this place a 4 or a 5 at first, but lets start with this review to explain why I came up with the 5. We navigated Valley Ridge Shopping Center to find this cafe as the place actually has a lot of stores. It was good that theres a lot of parking spaces BUT it gets full and busy on the weekends. There was no wait when we entered the cafe though and we get to pick where we wanted to sit. Inside was clean, neat and bright which we liked. Staff was wonderful and pleasant and service was great! I loved the single pine cone on the table as their winter decor. Lol it was actually cute. Anyway, menu had lots of options but we opted to get pancakes and a sandwich. The blueberry pancakes did NOT come in with blueberries on the side like their photos but the pancake itself had loads of it. The lack of fruit was overlooked as the pancakes where absolutely delicious! Soft and fluffy just the way I preferred it. We also got the Club sandwich which was also well made. Love the grilled chicken, sourdough and bacon. Im glad I asked if it came with any sides because it did not and I wanted fries with them. The fries were golden and crispy which was enjoyable to eat. For drinks we got the Malibu Fresh which was nice and we also got the Mocha. The mocha had a nice latte art but i did not taste espresso. So it was really like hot coco. I shouldve asked if it had coffee but I really assumed it did. I was thinking of giving them a 4 for those thing: no blueberries on the side for the pancakes and no espresso with their mocha BUT because the staff was just wonderful and the food was actually delicious, i thought it would just be fair to give them more credit. Would love to come back and explore more on the menu and perhaps next time be sure to get a nice drink..one thats surely with espresso! read more
A few weeks ago while shopping at another store in the same complex, I noticed that this space had a new tenant. I looked for the menu online and knew this was a spot to come back to. Yesterday morning, as my wife and I regularly do, we went out for breakfast and figured this was the perfect time to try out Jackie Smalls. I think the photos speak for themselves. My caramel latte was absolutely delicious. Made perfectly. My wife went for a hot chocolate which she loved as well. The Smalls Scramble is a complete breakfast. A very generous spread; the potatoes, as they are served are a nice change of pace from home fries or hash browns you may get somewhere else. My wife went for the avocado toast which was exceptional; egg cooked perfectly and very hearty. We will definitely be back as there are plenty more items to try not only for breakfast but for lunch too! read more

Absolutely in love with Jackie Smalls. Coming home to visit my family for the holidays and craving good, healthy breakfast, high quality cappuccinos, and great interior aesthetic ... Jackie Smalls is the only spot in the entirety of Wayne that fits the bill. The food is amazing, huge portion sizes, fresh, healthy options, and delicious. Cappuccinos and chai lattes with art. Everything plated to perfection. The interior is adorable. The staff are friendly and seem genuinely happy to work there. Was home for 5 days and went 3 times! This will be our go-to for breakfast and lunch next time we're in town. 5 stars all around! So happy there's a place like this in Wayne that's the perfect step up and alternative to the diner or deli. read more
Second time visiting and won't be the last. This spot is literally a hidden gem in plaza. The ambiance is inviting and the service is always great. This time around we had the chai latte (hot and cold) and cappuccino. For food, we tried the falafel, shakshouka and kafta burger with fries. Visited 01/12/2023 We've been here twice now, both times the food and service was excellent. Today I had the Lebneh toast while my wife enjoyed their "Taste of Home"... (2 eggs sunny, labneh, za'atar, shepherd salad, croissant). The lebneh toast is a nice piece of toasted sourdough bread with Kefir cheese spread (lebne), za'atar, some cucumber and a nice portion of smoked salmon (lox). The coffee is very good and the fresh squeezed OJ, so refreshing. They are only open for breakfast and lunch (7am to 4pm). They offer a slightly different menu than 'normal'... but very much worth the ride over. read more

Came here for lunch on a Saturday and will 100% be coming back. The place is super cute and very clean and although it's small, they do fit a lot of tables in there. Since it was a Saturday at lunch time, it was pretty packed, but even then, we only had to wait for about 20 min. After you sit, you order at the counter which definitely saves them a lot of time and keeps things moving. The food and drinks were soooo good. The chicken Cesar wrap was great and I loved the Malibu fresh juice. Everything was super fresh and came out really fast. Will definitely be coming back for breakfast because the breakfast menu looks amazing. read more

This is such a lovely little cafe! I've been wanting to try this place for a really long time and it didn't disappoint at all. The interior is bright while also feeling cozy. There isn't too much seating so it's best to get there earlier on the weekends since it gets pretty busy. The staff are also super friendly and attentive. My friend and I shared the stuffed grape leaves and the flavor was so good! It was on the mushier side compared to other ones I've tried but still really good. He got the Jackie Smalls omelette and said it was delicious, especially the truffle home fries. I got the shakshuka and it was super flavorful and also filling. Love this cafe! The interior is bright and beautiful (but there isn't too much seating) and the food is absolutely delicious! I ordered the Jackie House Salad which was so colorful and fresh! The salad dressing was sweet and so so so good! I also loved the avocados in it! The gyro platter was hugeee; perfect for my hungry boyfriend I'm so glad that I found this place! Jackie Smalls is the best hidden gem in Wayne. I've had this spot on my radar for a while and finally gave it a try for lunch. The restaurant itself is cute and modern. Really cozy atmosphere to enjoy a meal. They have a wide variety of wraps, salads, brunch options, etc. They even have a big selection of pastries, coffee, and smoothies. My wrap was super fresh and light. The grilled chicken was juicy and the hummus was creamy and delicious. Can't wait to come back and try some breakfast options. read more

Jackie Smalls really is a hidden gem. This establishment is located within a strip mall, in Wayne. As soon as you walk through the door, you are immediately transported into a neutral, contemporary, yet traditional establishment. This is a casual dining experience, where you order your food at the counter, take a number to bring to your table, and your food will be brought to you. I elected to go for their chai tea latte and I paired that with their chicken kebab entrée. Both selections absolutely delivered. One thing of note is that their entrée is of a decent size and I was able to leave with leftovers. The pictures truly do speak for itself! This is a must go to spot! read more

I used to work in Little Falls so I was familiar with and often ordered lunch at Jackie's Grillette. I was so excited when I heard about the opening of Jackie Smalls in Wayne. Fresh ingredients and great service. The interior is beautiful and decorated with lots of greenery. There are a few tables with seating inside and it is always busy during peak lunch hours. Yep! I went when following a gluten and dairy free diet and was able to get one of their bowls! I customized it to not have cheese though.
