We went on a Monday afternoon for lunch. Ordered brisket sandwiches with a side of baked beans. We didn't have a long line at all. Food is served in a to go box and we found an open seat on the bottom floor. We even had some tasty beverages. All tasted great. It's a faster food BBQ style of a place. You stand in line pick your food then go enjoy. There are Peyton Manning memorable items on the wall. Plus news clippings and pictures about the establishment. I had been to this same restaurant 12 years or so ago. Good BBQ. Stop in if the line isn't too long. read more

Well...I had high hopes but they quickly diminished! The staff talked up this food like my mind was going to be blown but I'm sorry to say, it wasn't. I had two meats and two sides: sausage and ribs with Mac and cheese and green beans. Those green beans looked seasoned to the high heavens but they weren't great, the Mac n cheese had no flavor. The ribs were fall off the bone, flavorful but also tasted like grease. The sausage didn't even taste like it had been on a grill! For $40 I expected so much more. That front table was people watching heaven though lol typical BBQ restaurant, a couple booths and tables. Could use some wet wipes or paper towels! read more

We were told that Jack's was the place to go for BBQ! Jack's is an order at the counter, seat yourself type of establishment. There are two levels of seating as well as an upper outdoor area. As we stood in line mulling over our options, we settled upon the BBQ chicken platter with mashed potatoes and corn (they were out of coleslaw). [ THE SCENE ] I REALLY wanted to experience amazing BBQ while visiting Nashville and could not decide based on yelp reviews! My top seven picks were Shotgun Willie's, Papa Turney's, Bringles Smoking Oasis, Peg Leg Porker, Ooh Wee Bar-B-Q, RIB Doctor and Edley's, all of which were 4 stars or better on yelp at the time of my research. But instead, I decided to ask some locals once I arrived and the overwhelming multitude recommended either Jack's or Martin's (which both happened to be 8 and 10 on my list). My list was solely arranged according to ratings with Shotgun Willie's being the highest rated @ 4.7 on yelp and Jack's & Martin's being the lowest of my top 10 @ 3.8 and 3.7 respectively. But I took a gamble and went with the local recommendations. [ THE EXPERIENCE ] First I tried Jack's. I ordered the TWO MEAT COMBO with Beef Brisket (2 stars) and Pork Ribs (3 stars). Included were two sides. I ordered mac n' cheese (3 stars) and baked beans (3.5 stars). While most of my order was decent, it wasn't the sort of satisfying lick my fingers experience I was hoping to have! So I gave Martin's a try on the last day of our visit and found myself even more disappointed! I personally thought Martin's ribs were overcooked. The very tips of the ribs were tough and dry while the bark was rather chewy. While I didn't think Jack's seasoning was very flavorful, at least the ribs were nicely cooked, that is, all but one end bone they gave me that was pretty dry. [ THE VERDICT ] Neither Martin's nor Jack's is the type of BBQ that would make me eager to return. And to be honest, you can find better brisket at a BUC-EE'S gas station... seriously! In retrospect, because of my hotels proximity to downtown, locals might have been directing me to their NEAREST BBQ recommendation instead of their favorite. 3.0 stars overall 2023 / 31 read more

This spot is one of my favorites. I often find barbecue places overcook the pulled pork. Not here! Juicy and delicious. Brisket was juicy and tasty as well. Neither really needed sauce (but the sauces were very good!) The side of Brunswick stew was fantastic. Employees were welcoming and friendly. I got the feeling that they really welcomed our business. Convenient location on Broadway. We felt that the place was more of a tourist trap and had pretty mediocre BBQ meats. I would say it's more of a place to just grab something quick to eat in between bar hopping. read more

I saw pretty good reviews and I was excited to try it, but boy did it disappoint. Our food was cold and dry and we felt sick after eating here. The sides were flavorless and the sauces were basic grocery store quality bbq sauce. The staff was very friendly and there was practically no wait. I would recommend looking elsewhere for good barbecue. There is also no live music if that is something you're looking for as a broadway dining option read more

It would have been great... yesterday. The meat was dried, cornbread was dried. No juice in the meat. The Mac n cheese was meh. The baked beans were good. And the sauces were good. I liked that they offered them in individual packets. But that was about it. Perhaps they're good when fresh out of the smoker but my experience was very underwhelming. read more

If you want some good beef brisket in the city, Jacks is my go to spot. I have tb had a place yet that has their brisket beat. Now I will say when getting the brisket you almost have to eat it within that time because it tends to dry out. I've noticed from the past few times of coming here they ration out the brisket more than they do the pulled pork ribs. One night I was given nothing but burnt ends and fatty pieces and when inquired about whether or not they had more brisket, it was frowned upon. Reason behind me asking was to see if I was just getting the worst of what they had left. But to find out they had quite few left for the night. You can't really go wrong with any of their meats. The baked beans are my favorite side they serve. I could do double beans and meat and be content. Oh can't forget about the cornbread lol If you're in the area definitely give it a try and get some of that Kansas, Texas, and Tennessee bbq sauce to go with it. You won't be disappointed. read more

If I could give this establishment a ZERO I would. Horrible service from the lady up front at the cashier. Condescending, disrespectful and borderline racist. She tried overcharging us and ended up wanting us to disappear from her face lol. Weird and just supremacist vibe. We are out of town and wanted something quick to eat so we opted to give ir a try (no line, the horrible service and bland food explains why) Aside from the dirty tables and lack of explanation on how the service works the sour attitude and plain disrespect and the way cashier gave her service I would never come back here. We came here for lunch during the CMA fest craziness. The line was pretty long but they get you through quickly. There is also ample seating on three separate floors! We sat on the top floor and I do not recall them having a balcony. You order on the first floor and they provide your food up front. They also have a lot of alcoholic beverage options. I had the meat and two sides plate, which is definitely enough food for 2! The Mac and cheese and the corn was phenomenal. The sides blew me away with their flavor and pairing with the meat. The max and cheese was not too rich and was a light creamy flavor with large noodles. The corn was creamy and sweet! I ordered chicken for my meat and it was seasoned and incredibly flavorful. However, you literally get like half a chicken! Bones and all! Definitely share and order some extra sides! The prices were a little high, but too be expected on Broadway. The bbq just didn't do it for me. I had the 3 meat combo (brisket, pork ribs, and pork shoulder - per recommendation of the server). The brisket did not have a bark and it tasted very bland like it was boiled. The ribs were better with some bark on it and some smoke flavor but lacked that deep flavor I was expecting. It was fall off the bone though. The pork shoulder had the most smoke flavor but still missing that deep flavor you expect from a bbq joint. read more

Hell's to the Yah!!! Serving well-smoked classics, you should stop in when in Music City, cause this is music for your mouth. All the meats we tried were fantastic. Brisket, ribs, turkey, sausage (home made?). The sauces are a nice adder, authentic, and have KC and Texas styles as well as their own signature flavor. We couldn't choose a favorite! So good. Sides are important, too, and Jack's delivers here as well. Tater salad is tasty, all the bean sides are good. In the age-old debate of creamy versus vinegar Cole slaw , their vinegar based makes a strong case. And don't turn down the bread.. its so good. We are admittedly BBQ snobs and were very happy to report that Jack's is the real deal when it would be easy to be just another tourist trap. It is so good!!! On Nashville's main drag, there is a line at every restaurant waiting to eat and the music is so loud and cross pollinating it can be hard to talk to the person next to you without screaming. But at Jack's there's music but it's perfect for the bbq scene and Nashville ambiance and you can hear those at the table !!! 5 stars Jacks!!!! It's as good as Black's and Rudy's in Texas which are among the top tier bbq places. No kidding!!! read more

Oh wow! This bbq was so good! Don't let the line steer you there is a reason and it goes super fast anyway! They are very friendly. This is a place you order your food after waiting in line and they give it to you right away and hope you find a seat. We thankfully found one downstairs but they do have an upstairs with more space. 11:30am on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, this place was not packed when we arrived, but definitely started to fill up when we left. Delicious food, quick and friendly service. You order, get your plate and go find seating. The ribs were my fave, so much flavor and the meat falls off the bone. Brisket was fresh out of the smoker, meat was juicy and tender. Mac n cheese was also a fresh batch and was creamy and noodles cooked perfect. Green beans are very flavorful, and so good. The bread was like a cross between a slice of thick white bread mixed with corn bread, SO moist and good. We sat upstairs and had a great view of Broadway. First place I visited while staying in Nashville. Came for lunch on a Tuesday. Short line, plenty of seating options on multiple levels. Lots of decor of country singers and old Nashville images. You order in a assembly line fashion, so food is prepared quick. Brisket and pork were delicious. Juicy, tender. Baked beans were a great, classic taste. Coleslaw was pretty liquidy, but still tasty. They had 3 different BBQ sauces, none were very hot. They might have had more elsewhere and I didn't notice. But all 3 were tasty! Felt very full afterwards. My absolute favorite BBQ in Nashville and the ribs are the best part--don't miss out! The sauce is the star of the show so be sure to try them all if you eat inside. Fantastic BBQ at a very reasonable price for the amount and quality you receive. Stopped in for wat we thought would be a quick brisket sandwich lunch and ended up with a platter of food I could barely finish. The brisket was melt in your mouth tender, very flavorful and served on a soft roll along with a delicious sauce. The sides I picked, mac and cheese and green beans, were also extremely good. Cool vibes here! Grab a plate and head upstairs! Make sure you check in through yelp to get your free rub. It's a huge size and it smells delicious. We ordered the Texas beef brisket plate. It comes with two sides and we chose Mac and cheese and apples. The brisket is really good. Love how they have everything wrapped in foil before you order it. I think it helped keep those juices in because the brisket was well seasoned and not dry at all. All of the sides are great! The Mac n cheese and apples were not the star of the show but definitely a good option. Loved all of the employees! So nice and informative. They taught us how to use the rub! Statement from Jack Cawthon, founder and owner of Jack’s Bar-B-Que, on the sale of Broadway building to Robert’s Western World. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to own an iconic Broadway institution for more than three decades. Broadway is a wonderful place and a world-renowned destination. I’ve loved helping to build and be a part of that story, but now is the time to give others a chance to be successful and continue that story. I look forward to working with my team and focusing on our other restaurants (Charlotte Avenue and West Trinity Lane) and our catering business. Catering is how I began Jack’s. In a way, I’m coming full circle. I’m excited to take our beloved pits on the road to serve the Nashville area. Everyone loves Jack’s neon sign - our flying pigs over Broadway. We’ll be removing that sign and returning it to Joslin Signs, where where it was originally built, for renovation and refurbishment. Then it will go back up in a prominent place in our city. Stay turned for more information on that! I’m enormously grateful to the men and women who have run our Broadway location so well for years. Many will remain a part of Jack’s team, and others will be offered great packages. There is a lot of opportunity for everyone ahead, and l’ll be excited to watch us all grow from this time. Established in 1976.

Jack's Bar-B-Que was the first casual restaurant on Broadway to open after many years of decline on lower Broadway. Some people say that Jack's Bar-B-Que started the first revitalization of lower Broadway. This free standing building poured out a steady stream of hickory-flavored smoke, drawing people from all over the world on their visit to Nashville. Jack's Bar-B-Que was written up in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Southern Living, and USA Today as "The Best Bar-B-Que in Nashville, Tennessee". As demand increased for Jack's Bar-B-Que he added a second location on West Trinity Lane and a third on Charlotte Avenue.

Meet the Business Owner: Jack C.

Jack Cawthon A Community leader as well as an entrepreneur for 35 years. In 1976 recognizing the need for good Bar-B-Que. After much study & travel, with one cook and himself he open for business. Throughout his career Jack has always made time for community as a tireless volunteer, always first in line to lead a community project, work on fundraiser or serve in any need capacity. In 2004 the City of Nashville recognized him as a "Public servant" with a resolution. Always being encourage to run for office, Jacks reply has been the same. I want to remain independent and keep a clear vision, so I can enjoy pleasing people with "good food and a friendly staff.

The meat was tender, melt in your mouth without an overbearing amount of fat clumped together. The bark was salty and very peppery. It was actually good enough to eat without a sauce. Speaking of, there was only one sauce on the table, so I used that. It was a sweet sauce, definitely honey-based but not overly sweet like other honey-based sauces I've had in the past. The thing is I love everything honey-related, so I would definitely buy this to take home. It was so good, I was scavenging for brisket fibers on my plate. So I praised the brisket but I think the shocker was the green beans. These were hands down, the best green beans I've ever had...ever. Salty, tender, peppery, with chunks of meat and fat, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. Who would have thought that a side could be that good? Last but not least, the Cinnamon Baked Apples. I love baked/fried apples. Something about the tart and sweetness brings me back every time. The apples were soft, but not mushy. I would have liked them to be a little more tender and more slices of apples. I think there was more sauce than apples but nevertheless, they were great. Overall I'm glad I visited Honeyfire for the first time. I'm here often (near Bellevue) so I'll definitely be coming back again and again.

One tip: the bun on the kids' cheeseburger is huge compared to the patty. I asked if they could add an extra patty, and they did for just $1. After removing some of the bun, it made for a much better burger and still kept the meal incredibly affordable. The spicy chicken tacos are also some of the best tacos in town. Our family of five ate for about $50. We usually buy Edley's gift cards at Costco, so our actual cost was closer to $40. So this place is an insitituion? One of the best BBQ in Nashville? Sorry, not feeling it. Walked by on saturday and noticed a line of about 50 people. Sounds very promising, so we decided to return on sunday around 3pm. Good: No line at 3pm 6 different BBQ sauces Nice prices Seemed popular Free soda refills. Cool, fun decor. Bad: The ribs were so bad my girlfriend didn't even finish them. My Brisket sandwich was pretty good, though I would go with the jumbo size, not small (you get a better roll and better cuts of brisket). Mac and cheese was worse than Kraft quality. Horrible cornbread. I've had plenty of BBQ in my life, and as a Yankee up north I don't claim to know too much about it. I can say however, that it would be hard for me to recommend this place, unless there was no line, and you happened to be hungry and standing right in front of their restaurant. Good, yes. Wonderful experience! As visitors to the Nashville area for only 48 hours, we asked a local at the airport for recommendations and followed her advice to go to Jack's. The staff was friendly, and helped these weary travellers make wise choices. The pork was tender, moist, and had wonderful flavor. The brisket was delicious. We even enjoyed the sides. The portions were ample; we were stuffed. I don't usually eat bread, but enjoyed the cornbread so much I ate most of it and wrapped the piece that was left to take with me. My only regret is that we were south of Franklin the next day so that we couldn't go back to Jack's. read more

So I'm an east coaster and I move fast... so the 45 min line wait was not ideal for me but I had to try it! The beans were my favorite side. I tried the turkey and the ribs, turkey was delicious. The ribs were tough. The bathroom needed a good clean. I thought the dining room was clean, hot as all heck but the staff was super friendly. I've had BBQ at a number of places in Nashville, and Jack's is consistently the better of the places. The food is good- I've had the brisket and the ribs, all are properly done, and they have a choice of sauces now that can vary it up depending on what you are in the mood for. The sides are all good, and up to standards for a good BBQ joint. The decor is casual, if you're looking for fine dining this is not the place. Better than any other BBQ place you choose your own sauce and not have the meat ruined by covering it all up. The BBQ here is OK. I think there are many better places in Nashville, and to be honest, if you live here, unless the food is GREAT, why would you even bother with the hassle of downtown? Being first doesn't necessarily mean being the best though, it was all right, but I've honestly had better hot chicken elsewhere. The mac & cheese was a solid side, but the potato salad missed the mark for me. Service was also a bit awkward the cashier had that classic millennial stare and didn't greet me at all. Worth trying once for the history of it, but wouldn't say it's a must.

A parking lot is available for customers. This location has both indoor and outdoor seating, mainly picnic table style. You'll order at the counter and bring your table number to your seat. Paper towels are at every table. Beverages are abundant: typical soda fountain, lemonade, slushies (spiked even!), local beer (including draft), cocktails, and more. The salad is a new addition to the menu in the last year that is fresh, filling, and tasty. The cornbread croutons are insane! I love when salads have extra protein sources like beans and chicken. No matter your preferences, you have so many options for spice levels and sauces. You can purchase merch like dry rubs or t-shirts at this location.

Their food truck gets around so be sure to find it. I was impressed, very impressed. After eating at some of the best places in Chicago's food scene, living in NC and eating at some of the most famous spots on the planet, this was the best food experience I have ever had. Pretty good Cauliflower hash - very cheesy, could pass for potato hashbrowns but a little drier. It was ok. Creamed corn - way too sweet for my preference Arnold's is a fun time. They paid homage to Masters of the Universe while we were there. The live action movie playing on one TV and the animated series playing on another. There's even a free arcade game emulator out in the front lobby. Arnold's approach to food is no frills.
