McLobster has an equal. The picture of the Lobster Roll on the menu was tantalizing--what arrived on my plate was not. This is a summer special, and I suspect it won't be around for long. The promise of succulent lobster and shrimp always gets me. But I like it when promises are kept. For $17, I received a hamburger sized bun with a smattering of fishy mix. It instantly reminded me of a bad experience of McDonald's when McLobster was introduced--at $8 for a nearly identical experience. Remember when Quiznos had the Lobster and Shrimp sub for $12? I got nearly double the seafood on that puppy. That was big value at the time. The best part was--what for it: the Bun! Fionn uses an Ace bakery bun that was incredible for the whole 4 minutes it took me to finish. I left hungry. That's the real letdown for me! read more

Fun place to socialize and to eat and for listening to live music. Chris was our server and he was great. The calamari was excellent, crispy and so tender. I would have eaten 2 or 3 servings it was so good. We also had the yorkies and they were just OK. We had the steak and mushroom pie, really good, great beefy taste, nice crust, crispy and not soggy. Surprisingly the veggie pot pie was really really good, full and complexed flavour. I was very surprised at how good it was. We also had the salmon and leek pie, and it was disappointing, flavor less and almost meatless, there was almost no salmon and I didn't taste any leeks. Yesssssss... Success!! Been here for a couple of different types of visits, a few times to grab lunch or dinner, and a couple of other times to get sauced up on some great beer and maybe a couple shooters as well. Regardless of what I was there for the quality or the service, the food and the drink was very good, went with a large group of 12 and they were quick to get us all seated and it didn't even falter the service at all having a 12 top with all split up bills. For drinks there's tons of choice in both the beer and the booze departments, a couple of fun shooter trays to down with some buddies like a plank... There's another device too I couldn't remember the name of where u hit a plunger and it drops 4 shot glasses into their respective glasses of mix (i.e. jager shots into redbull) Every thing I've ordered from the menu for foods has been quality, but the winner so far has been the fish and chips, such a good beer batter, the chips are cut nicely and got a nice crispyness to them, even the coleslaw on the side is real nice.... The tartar sauce is really really good..... Get extra tartar sauce, dip some fries in... It'll put you in a happy place. Go there! read more

I met some friends here on a Monday evening, and it was almost exactly what I expected. Having never been in a Fionn MacCool's before, I was assuming it would be a pub with pricing on the high end of average, which I'm okay with as long as the food quality and taste matched. After looking through their extensive menu (I'm not a fan of extensive menus - normally I find this lessens the overall ability to get things right), I decided on the salmon pie. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was bad, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it was great either. I'd describe it as a bland pie-like thing that tasted vaguely of fish. The accompanying salad was nice enough, but again, nothing to write home about. I did like their selection of beer, and also that they had some $5 pints. Made washing the pie down easier! Despite the average food though, the staff was definitely above average. Attentive and friendly, and made every effort to make sure we had everything we wanted. And when it came to paying bills, they were also helpful in finding ways for us to use Scene cards, CAA, etc, to give us a discount. I'll likely be out to give them another try one day, but there are a lot of other places I want to try first. read more

My boyfriend wanted to come here for drinks. We got their 5 dollar house special. It was alright. Can't really complain because we got what we paid for. I think it was Bud. It tasted like bananas, like subtle hints of bananas. I really like the atmosphere of the pub, the two female servers were very outgoing and chatty. They were super quick, friendly and constantly kept checking up on us which was nice. My bf kept changing his mind about food and then finally we ordered food. The buffalo nachos were okay. That is my opinion since I'm not a huge fan of nachos to begin with. But I remember having their waffle fries which were amazing, I should have ordered that instead. This place was okay for food. I think I would come here again just for the waffle fries that are currently crossing my mind right now. Plus drinks, I rather hit up the pubs on main street instead since they have a better selection. Happy eating fellow Yelpers! =) read more

I don't frequent restaurants too often these days. When I do go out, I read reviews on different platforms. Thus restaurant had a 4 star. I was impressed. We decided tonight to celebrate my son's birthday. When we first sat down everything was stuck to the table. We ordered soft drinks. Both came flat. When I mentioned it to waitress, she was happy to replace. She said she used the bar dispenser. Second beverages were flat too. I ordered Fish & Chips, which was reviewed several times with a 5* review. My son ordered BBQ wings, which don't come with fries. He ordered a side of fries. Honestly, they could have fed a family of four. He enjoyed the wings. My fish had such a thick batter, it was deliciously crisp on the outside but mushy inside. Almost as if uncooked. That totally grossed me out. The kicker was the coleslaw. It was the pre-sliced bagged coleslaw that I buy at the grocery store. It was brown, like it was made yesterday or earlier today. Also gross!!!! Total bill was $57 tipped $15, $72. My dinner basically went into the trash as well as 75% of my sons fries. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of food. I should have walked out when we sat down to a sticky table. Never to return. read more

Nice decent place, great music, good service and a lively atmosphere. What else do you want at a place like this at 10.30 pm on a Friday. Have to admit, the nachos, with the crinkle cut fries were awesome. Loaded with flavour and toppings. This takes nachos to a whole new level. And the Sangria was perfect. Also, the crowd is mature, compared to the Lion Pub, which is not bad, however, seems like a first choice for teens (or young adults). Will definitely come here again for a great date nite again. read more

First time here was great. Sat with my parents here in the bar a few nights ago for dinner we were treated great, food was nice and service was fast. Today for lunch was a whole other story. They wouldn't take a reservation in advance for a group of 6 women, one of which (my mother) was celebrating her birthday. They told us to come either before 12pm or after 2pm to avoid the Friday afternoon lunch rush. We arrived at 1:45, though didn't order our drinks until after 2pm and it took 20mins to get our first round of drinks, despite the fact that we were one of the only tables in the dining room. Our first (female) server was very attentive, though we must have hit right at a shift change. Our second (male) server was really poor though: out of touch with customer service. One of our party asked if the latke grilled cheese was meant to be the way it was (extremely hard, teeth-breaking crunchy and way over cooked). And he said yes (!) which we all knew it was not. We didn't want to send it back, and he did after a few minutes offer to get her something else, but it really should have been right away! The food overall was pretty poor. My mother really enjoyed her cod sandwich and burgers were just ok, but potatoe latke grilled cheeses for 3 women were not enjoyed. Manager was too busy hanging streamers on the wall to be concerned when she overheard us bringing up the cooking issues to our server. We also had to pay for the birthday dessert we ordered as a surprise, which we've never experienced at such an establishment before. Overall, most of our party remarked they will not be coming back. We all love this chain in other locations, but this Newmarket location is seriously lacking in some major areas. We went to Fionn MacCool's on a Friday night for dinner and drinks as it had opened in our neighbourhood in the last year or two but we had never had a chance to try it until now. We had a great experience! First, their menu is so wide-ranging that I wanted to order 6 different mains. I managed to narrow it down to the butter chicken which was good. I should have stuck with my original plan: the Yorkie wrap with roast beef, mashed potatoes, etc. which looked amazing but I wasn't too hungry and thought I wouldn't finish it. Two of my friends ordered something similar with lamb and really enjoyed it. Another friend had fish n' chips which was on special (2 for 1) on a Friday. The drink list is very good and I like the options of 3 different servings of wine. Of course, we had dessert - again, too many good choices but I had the apple crumble pie and it was top-notch! Served slightly warm with ice cream, it was the perfect ending to dinner! Service was excellent! I forgot our server's name (it may have been Kaitlyn) but she was absolutely pleasant and helpful! Being a Friday, they had a band which was nice, but given that the restaurant is not too large, it made for loud background noise. I guess it is to be expected on a Friday night. We will definitely return soon so I can try each of the remaining 5 choices of mains (amongst many others). read more

I've been there twice, once during the first few weeks of it opening, and again on a girls night. Both times have been great. First night they had an amazing band playing. People were up and dancing, it was a really nice atmosphere. Just had some dessert, the bread pudding, it was pretty good. Love all of their Whiskey options! The second visit I actually had a meal, Shepherds Pie, and it was really good as well. Again, excellent service and nice atmosphere. Only downfall as a patron.. its SO busy and can be a little noisy. It's all in good fun, but its definitely not a place to go for intimate conversation. I'm not a huge fan of the lay out.. and if only there was a dance floor! The outside seating area is inviting. The live music is also a nice addition. The service was really great and is probably the number one thing that would make me go back to this restaurant. The fish and chips I ordered were delicious but it took me a long time to decide what to order as they have too many choices on their menu. Our experience was far different than the previous reviews. Perhaps they needed a bit more time to properly train front house and kitchen staff. Overall, an excellent experience for our first visit. During a busy Friday lunch Friendly staff seated us right away and our waiter was quick to follow. Went here just last weekend with a couple of girlfriends. We didn't make reservations but we went slightly later on a Saturday night, and had heard it was a good restaurant from my parents. According to the hostess' the wait would be 30min, so we decided to wait. And wait, and wait. We waited well over 45 mins for a table, and the hostesses didn't know what the hell they were doing. They kept looking at the wait list and walking around doing nothing, not asking for names, just pretty much walking around in a circle. Larger groups of 6+ kept getting seated before us, and I realize that's the restaurants prerogative, but I feel like it should have been on a first come, first serve basis. Two tables opened up at about our 25 min waiting mark, but it still took the hostesses/wait stuff another 20mins to clean them, when at that point there was an hour wait. The manager finally had to come out and help seat people, I think, but then again, she and the hostesses still looked confused as to who was who. Our wait list description was "3 girls". We were finally seated, and things started heading in the right direction. We got our drinks almost immediately after we ordered them, and only waited for about 15 mins for our food, which was very delicious. Our waiter wasn't even supposed to work that night, but apparently got called in due to staffing, I think. And the live band was a little too loud. The food was great and our waiter was super awesome, but the hostesses don't know what the heck they are doing, and during a dinner rush, staff should at least be fast and there wasn't any hurry in trying to seat people. May go again if made a reservation for a second opinion. read more

I'm not usually a fan of big name or franchise restaurants however this pub is always consistent, great service and good food. They have Bands on certain nights and really a comfy bar atmosphere. I recommend the baked buffalo cauliflower as well as the cod sandwich. Their house salad is amazing as their dressing is so good. All staff there, bar and wait staff are super friendly. Plus you can get scene points as well as money off your bill if you show your CAA membership card. read more

Everything was just ok. I went to the washroom and the toilet exploded on me. I got so wet, I was appalled . I told the manager and she blamed it on me. Long story short - sweet pub, lively atmosphere, great food! I get it - this pub is a chain restaurants. It's expected to have a few hiccups during opening month but I'd have to say, they ironed them out relatively fast. With chain restaurants come generic food and okay service, but not here! I've been to this location 3 times now since October 31st & I LOVE it. Their drinks are creative and moderately priced. The entertainment scene is decent, seen two live bands rockin' the stage. And the most important part and reason why you're reading this review; the food. The food was so flippin' good. I've had the bread pudding, the Irish nachos, the cod sandwich, mixed green salad & the seafood pie. I can honestly say the pies are where it's at. The crust is made in house, flakey and crispy. A shrimp piece was in every bite! EVERY BITE. I loved the flavor and the strong asparagus taste. The veggies weren't mushy inside and each flavor was really apparent. My second favourite was the cod sandwich. The fish is crispy, the slaw pairs well and the bun was pretty good too. A bit messy so bring your napkins. The only thing that threw me off was the plating scheme. It was served on a wooden board which was totally unique, although, it made me conscious of how messy I really am. Service is good and attentive. A longer than average wait for drinks on Friday/Saturday night, but that's expected. My one and only gripe was the leaky ceiling from poor builders. Fionn MacCools is the facelift Newmarket's been dying to get. read more

My friend and I went for dinner at Fionn MacCool's recently. We had the mini Yorkies as our starter which came out quickly and tasted great. We had the maple glazed salmon for our mains and split white chocolate cheesecake for dessert. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. Overall we had a great experience and definitely would go back again. read more

This was a place we ate regularly. Every third or fourth Friday night. It was a bit reminiscent of Irish pubs. Food was quite good and service was good. Music was good too - with live music some nights. Don't know why but they now blare the music on Friday nights - so loud that talking over dinner is tough (it wasn't live music while we were there). We spoke to the manager and they said it is in an attempt to get a younger crowd into the restaurant. I looked around and saw people of all ages and the restaurant was full. The food hasn't been hot the last few times and hasn't been to the previous standard. On our way out, we were talking to another couple in the parking lot and they said that things have slid here and that they are going to find another place because the music was so loud and the food isn't as good as before. This is disappointing as we really enjoyed our dinners here until recently. read more

Very bad experince. If your looking for a place that you have to walk through 10 people smoking and yelling at each other and a security guard just to get in the front door this is your place. The bar tender/server smelled like a pack of smokes in water. We ordered there type on notchoes less jalapeño and of course it came with them. took the back for a re-make, took only 2 mins as they only picked them off we could still taste and found them on the bottom , server lied!!! So over all VERY BAD EXPERIENCE! "WE WILL TAKE IT OFF THE BILL" will not save customers. read more

Been a couple of times to the one in Woodbridge. Usually it has been s good experience. Not so much today. This time, the tables were sticky, benches with crumbs & floor around table unswept. Even when I pointed it out we were moved & someone else sat there - without cleaning! So if your going to have dim lights - at least clean. read more

Having dined at several other locations across Ontario, I can honestly tell you that Fionn Macool's is one of my favorite pubs. Having said that, the location which recently opened up in Newmarket does not live up the general reputation. Most of the staff we're not very welcoming, my friends and I were ignored by the hostess and had to seat ourselves, half of the items on the food and beverage menus weren't availabe due to "late deliveries and broken kitchen equipment", our server didn't seem properly trained, each of our meals were missing at least one extra, and to make the experience worse the food really wasn't all that good. Yes, this is a brand new location and I understand that getting the routine down pat is a process. However, this location hardly does a good job of representing the Fionn Macool's franchise. Should I decide to visit again and my experience is noticeably different, I will adjust my review accordingly. read more

The manager of this establishment does not seem to get the concept that if you are offering live music as entertainment that is supposed to start at 9pm, people will expect to see live entertainment sometime close to the time advertised. Instead like a sports bar instead of the pub that it claims to be 17 tv screens blared out the Raptors game right to the bitter end of 10:15 or so. I supposed the band finally came on and played but we were long gone by then. We of course would have stayed and had a couple beers and enjoyed a Friday nite out. I understand that there are people who would like to see "the game" whichever sport is on but why not limited that to a tv by the bar where the sports enthusiasts can still tune in while the band gets the place pumpin......food was pretty good, beer was good, no complaint there but we were really disappointed not to hear some live music.:( read more

Sooo disappointed!! I took my husband and kids here for dinner. Friends had been talking the place up, and I've enjoyed Fionn MacCool's in Toronto. But this place was not the good time I expected. My list of disappointments grew quickly: We were seated and forgotten. Nobody took our order for more than 20 minutes. The food was awful. The kids' menu needs to be burned. Kids are people, too. I wouldn't feed the shepherd's pie to a dog. The menu described beef, vegetables and potatoes. Pretty standard. What we got: gravy soup with barely detectable specks of "meat" and maybe three peas. And the mashed potatoes on top: must have been powder from a box. I ordered the chicken curry. It was more like chicken chili, with very little flavour. Tasted old and I was queasy the next day. The rice was crunchy. Very, very poor. - The icing on the cake: when my son got to the bottom of his milk, he found a lemon seed. So don't expect clean dishes, either. I will NEVER return to this place. read more
