With all the negative reviews, I thought I should add something positive to balance things a bit. I live in walking distance to Foodtown, so I'm here a lot. It's a small store, and they don't have as many options as some of the big supermarkets, but I like the fact that I can get in and out in no time. Went to Jacks Foodtown yesterday to pick up some salad ingredients. Unfortunately I witnessed a middle aged cashier with her feet up against the register reading the National Enquirer. She had medium blonde shoulder length hair and was speaking strangely to a male customer. Talk about a horrible impression. Where's management?!? read more

This is a nice store, with free burnt coffee as you enter, and friendly staff but their prices are higher than Shop Rite. They also use a ridiculous Greenpoint system, which became obsolete in the 50s. The store is good for one or two items, but for bigger orders we save more by going to a bigger market- the prices are better and we don't have to deal with stupid greenpoints. The customer bathroom behind the deli is FILTHY, it looks like a boardwalk bathroom. I hope the employee areas are cleaner! read more

Save your time and go somewhere else. It may be convenient for people in the area to make a quick trip, but beware- multiple times I have seen expired food on the shelves. They're produce selection is pretty bad as well. We purchased oranges just this past week, got home, but one open, and it was practically frozen in the middle. I bought two apples which looked pretty good, the next morning I woke up and they were all brown and mushy already. That just seems strange to me. read more

The store is over priced and you have to check expiration dates because a lot of items are expired. You don't even get 5 days out of their tomatoes or cucumbers. London broil was packed to look good but unwrapped was all fat!!! Also woman with long brown hair very nasty in deli department!! Some cashiers nice but unfortunately most aren't !! read more

This morning i stopped at the Super Foodtown located at 1466 Route 23 North, Wayne, NJ 07470 for a quick run for draino. I noticed they had Monster Energy drinks at the end cap and grabbed two to eliminate another stop on the way back to the office. First of all, i waited at the front door as the men unloaded a pallet of Poland Spring water because i was unable to enter. (This was not an issue at all) I went directly from the aisle to checkout, there were ZERO customers. As i walked up i greeted the cashier, STELLA, with a friendly " Good Morning" and a smile which i received absolutely NO response or acknowledgement of. She did not ask me for my club card for any extra savings and My total came to $9.70. I paid with $10 cash specifically, and nicely asked if i could get back 2 $5 bills for another $10 bill in my hand and she immediately snapped back, as the register was open " ummmmmm no i cant break any change for you unless you buy something." I looked at her funny and looked down at another separate $20 bill ( as my $10 for the transaction is still in her hand, register still open wide) and asked if i gave her the twenty to pay could i have 2 $5 bills as change. She gave me a nasty look and did not want to help me and THEN put the $10 bill in the register, handed me 30 cents and a receipt. Following, she pointed to the customer service area and said " you're going to have to ask the lady on the phone"(someone who is doing her job, actually busy, and that i would not want to disturb). There were no customers behind me, no lines, it was completely dead in the store. This caused super frustration and dissatisfaction. I cannot believe how rude and ignorant this clerk was to me. Because of this, i had to stop once again at the 7-11 down the block, where i was treated nicely even though i had not bought any items. I do not understand why this was such an issue and why i was discriminated and ostracized. read more

This is a smaller store, so obviously they cannot fit as many brands, but the people working there are always friendly to me and I go every week, at least once. The deli has a delicious "summer slaw" that is far better than any slaw I have ever had. I am not a fan of coleslaw, but a huge fan of their summer slaw. If they do not carry what you like to buy, request it. I did on the ice cream and they were soon selling the one I like. This is my primary grocery store. If you go with the sale ads, I find it very reasonable overall. Close, convenient and quick with friendly faces. I am surprised by some of the negative reviews as I have never experienced that. read more

I have been shopping in this store since I moved to town 6 years ago and have only had one consistent problem that I will get to later. Otherwise, I really like this store. It reminds me of a small town grocery store. Managers Dave and Rich are always friendly and helpful. Deli manager George is awesome! Very nice guy and makes the BEST small sandwich platters. Every place I have brought sandwiches to people go crazy. The store baked cold cuts are excellent. As for prices, check the weekly sale papers and you'll find this store is comparable to Shoprite. Stop and Shop is a total rip-off! Now the reason for my four star rating and the one consistent problem. Like other reviewers have found, the cashiers are RUDE! Not so much the younger adults they have been hiring lately but some that have been there a long time. One cashier, Pat, that has been there as long as I have been going there, and I'm there a few times a week, is perhaps the most miserable person I have ever encountered! She should not be dealing with the public! I have mentioned it to management a few times but for whatever reason it's not addressed. But, because I like the store and the rest of the employees I just wait for another cashier. If it wasn't for the cashier issue I would have given five stars. read more

The store, in general is great. But one cashier, Sandra, is very rude, and will not help you when asked. This happened to me on more than one occasion. The first time, I asked about a coupon, and she said, "well, I don't know, if you don't know about a particular coupon, don't use it." The second time, I needed to check out 4 separate orders, as I was picking things up for a school. I asked if it would be possible to check out my items as four orders. She said "No, you have to go to different registers." So I checked out the first order, backed up my cart, and went to the next register, where the gentleman said "Weren't you just on the other line?" I explained what Sandra had just told me, and he said "No, that's not true, I can ring you up separately. Seriously, if you hate your job, don't take it out on the customers. read more

On Sunday afternoon I stopped into the store to get some things from the produce department. There were 2 gentleman working in Produce department there I cannot begin to explain too you how helpful they both were. I asked a question, They both were busy packing out but as soon I asked a question they both dropped what they were doing helped me in a instant, They helped me find what I was looking for. They both were so polite, helpful, charming and nice. Customer service like that is hard to find, Jack's Foodtown in Wayne has a new customer in me.
