I was just about to give up on diners in the area after being dulled by the Jackson Heights institution Jahn's that brought me in by it's near perfect diner awning. That awning - so cool, with the Jahn's name on fire and the brick red fabric faded from time. The burgers must be soo good! They're okay. The burger at Jackson House - Now that's a good burger! Unfortunately for them, there is a big tree in front of the store. You won't see it unless you know exactly where it is. I was hearing about it for months but hadn't seen it until I made a point to find it. Their veggie burger was a revelation. It wasn't a mock burger, it was more like a vegetables mix formed into a pattie. Every bite is an individual, different textures and flavors. Takes a bit to get used to it actually. And it's huge, it overflows the bun without apologizing. This is a really interesting burger. Kitchen is right in the front, totally transparent. Walk in and it's hard not to start a conversation with the cooks. The waitresses are warm, I feel like they are they are proud of what they do, what they represent. Forget Jahns, this is my go-to JH diner. read more

I guess the term is "regular" when you go there every Friday night for dinner. Yeah, I can live with that. Anyhow, I've been going to Jackson house diner for as long as I can remember. Hell, my mom used to go there regularly before I was born. While the menu doesn't have new twists to classic diner fare, or a deconstructed fusion of flavors on a plate, it does good by keeping it simple. If you hit them up for breakfast you will be welcomed by the smell of bacon as it wafts through the doorway, out into the street, and into your brain. From waffles, to pancakes, to eggs and which way it's good. Even had breakfast at 8:00 at night. The coffee is good too. If you go for lunch, try the veggie burger (made in house) with fries. Oh, the fries. What diner fries should be. Awesome. Not that into beef? Try a Bison or Turkey Burger, both flavorful and juicy. Triple Decker sandwiches are a must too. Smokey Ham and Cheese, with lettuce and tomato on toast. Simple and delicious. Heading out for dinner? Try the Meatloaf or Chicken Quesadillas. Have a burger for dinner. Some friends have invented new kinds of food while there (Something my friend calls 'The Huron', basically a Belgian Waffle, bacon and sausage omelet sandwich, with syrup) much to the enjoyment of the staff. It will not be going on the menu, but we all had a good laugh out of it. Again, simple comfort food, enjoyed more with friends. If you're out late and looking for somewhere to satisfy that craving for munchies, sorry, they run normal hours (stop serving around 8:30pm and close at 9:00pm). It's a diner. Simple food, but good food. Jackson House is a favorite place, not just because of the food, but because the staff cares and likes to see you come back. I absolutely love this place for breakfast! Yeah, I can make better at home.. but that's not the point. The service is always pleasant and speedy. The food is great! I would say that this is Jackson Heights' best hidden places but the place is always super crowded - especially on weekend mornings for the JH hang-over breakfast. Jackson House is definitely one of those mom-and-pop places that make Jackson Heights - Jackson Heights. So, unless you're in the mood for ice cream, walk passed Jahn's and come on here. I love this place!! This is what a diner is all about good service,cozy family owned establishment, and the food is the bomb! The prices are great and the portions are good size (I always have left overs). I go around the same time so I always see the same servers, which are so warm and pleasant. Even though they aren't as big as Jahn's, Jackson House has them beat on customer service alone but then when you factor in the quality of food they have them blown out of the water. I only eat breakfast here on the weekends and when I'm totally too lazy to fry a couple of eggs in that square box in my kitchen (i'm told it's a stove but, ok, i like the simplicity of its design...but i digress) I like the staff. Very friendly. lots of families, but i have nothing against them ;-) i too come from one and am told i was a child once. oh, it's gay friendly too so that's a plus for me. i recommend getting there before 10am for breakfast or else you'll have to wait in line to get a booth. the economic times has made the line shorter (and sometimes not even existent which is a plus) but as soon as summer hits, be prepared to wait in line. Or do as I do and just sit at the counter -no waiting required- damn, i just told you my secret. Come to think of it, no, don't eat at the counter. read more

The best diner in the area. No question! The owner and the staff couldn't be any nicer. The place can get busy in the morning and for good reason. Anything I've ever ordered from there is very good. They really seem to care about their patrons and the food they put out. The chef actually cooks in the front of the diner, in plain view of everyone. Definitely one of the best in Queens. I believe they close around 8:30pm or so, which is a little early for diners, so keep that in mind and get there a bit earlier, if you're planning on stopping by for a later meal. read more

I've been here twice now, and I'm obsessed with the Bacon Cheeseburger Deluxe. It comes with a side of Fries which are slightly breaded to give it a nice texture, pickle and a small container of Coleslaw. The meat at Medium temperature gave it's the right amount of juice and grilled flavor. They're breakfast Menu is also great as well. If you're in the mood for Pancakes or Waffles, they're use own mix from scratch using salted butter and milk, so even if you are looking to avoid the sugar from the syrup, you'll still very much enjoy it. French Toast was good too come to think of it. INTERNS OF DECORUM... a little dated. Which depending on your standards can be a hit or miss. Its very reminiscent of a 80s "Traditional Diner. This is truly your neighborhood diner. They get super crowded on weekends before eleven as they have cheap breakfast specials that will fill you up until dinner. Their foodies standard fare, but it is tasty and never disappointing. I've also been here for dinner, and their food is average, but not as good as their breakfast food. Their burgers are also decent, but again, nothing crazy above average food. Definitely come here for breakfast but make sure you allot enough time to wait on weekends for a table. read more

Like any diner you have to know what they make well and what they don't. I love that they have Bison burgers! And their veggies burgers are fun, big, green, mushy-- made in house. (Don't get if you are looking for a firm/solid Boca Burger type thing). French fries are the best around--slightly spicy with a nice crunch on the outside. I'll go just for those! Waffles, pancakes, all up to par for Diner food. Was not impressed with their chicken quesadillas--but if you want that in this 'hood you can get the real thing quite easily elsewhere! I've been here twice and both times I got the same thing - veggie burger. It was huge and delish. They have good breakfast too and KILLER french fries (they are seasoned and sooo addictive). Atmosphere is typical diner, but REALLY cramped booths. Hard to fit more than 2 at a booth (guess I just like a lil elbow room while I pig out). But I will warn you. DO NOT order delivery from this place. It might seem like a good idea but it just isn't I don't know why, I guess that sandwiches on kaiser buns don't transport well, but I won't ever do it again. Few days ago, I ordered a turkey club sandwich, and a side of corn beef hash. The 2 stars are for the decent fries and fast delivery time. However, that's where the good things end. The turkey club was the worst I have ever had. The turkey was dry, and old. Although I could not see it, but it tasted like mold as well. The bacon was under cooked, thus not edible. The corn beef hash smelled bad, and after one bite, I had to throw away the entire dish. Well, that was $20(including tips) wasted. I will go to Jahns from now on, even if they do not deliver. My husband and I have been regulars for four years at Jackson House, which is our favorite diner in Jackson Heights, and one of our favorites in NYC.The prices are reasonable, food is good, portions large. The warm, collegial vibe amongst the staff is extended naturally to diners, who are treated with genuine friendliness. (You never get the feeling they're being nice just for the tip.) The food is great--very hot and fresh--and arrives at the table quickly; usually within 5 minutes. Faves: grilled cheese, the reuben, turkey burger, spinach pie, belgian waffles, pancakes, french toast, onion rings, bread pudding They are very popular, so sometimes there's a few minute wait for a booth if you go during prime lunch/brunch hours. Cons: They close early by my standards; I think it's 8pm. I agree with the other poster--delivery is not as good. Then again, most diner food isn't really made to travel well. The strange: If you ask for ginger ale they may give you Sprite with a little Coke in it for color. And to tell you the truth I didn't know the difference the first few times. read more

Food was great! Most of there food is home made. Even the cold cuts! The spinach pie is unreal. And their daily specials like Lamb Shanks, Stuffed peppers and Roasted chicken is great. The staff is nice as well and they make great rice pudding and bread pudding. Mmm! And the prices are great. They have a nice choice of meats and seafood as well.
