I planned to discuss with the provider about the lens options and move forward with the surgery. The front desk lady Joanna acted extremely unprofessionally and I was unable to make an appointment with the doctor. Apparently this had been complained about by other patients too based on internet reviews. I am concerned about the quality of certain staff hired by the clinic and worried about potential communication barrier should I develop any post-op complications. I am glad at least this happened before I made the decision on surgery. I will look elsewhere. read more

Several weeks ago I chose to go to Jacksonville Eye Center a small practice in Riverside when I heard of the compassion and care this practice provides. I was having a painful right eye. Dr. Kevin Cronin and team performed a red light procedure for extremely dry eyes and prescribed two sets of glasses. I must say my eyes have greatly improved and the pain is gone. I am happy I made the choice to switch from a large Ophthalmology practice to this small practice. My boyfriend came here to get his eyes checked. I had to go with him because he was getting a dilated eye exam and I had to drive him home. The staff is very professional and friendly. We arrived around 3:15pm and filled out paperwork. His appointment was at 3:30pm, but he was seen closer to 4pm. This is a pretty busy office so if you're waiting, they have plenty of magazines to read and a big screen TV to watch as it will probably be a while. Clear your day. Overall, I would recommend this eye center if you live on this side of town. Parking is pretty easy and they are pretty thorough in their examination. We were there for over two hours. As a courtesy, go outside to talk if you're going to be on the phone or you will be shut down fast. In the end, the doctor couldn't find anything wrong with my boyfriend's eyes and was referred to a retina specialist. He paid out of pocket and the fee was $215. Oh and they also have an eyeglass/contact lenses center located right inside their office so it's a one-stop shop. read more

Stay away I wish I knew then what I know after the fact. Told me 5000.00 for cataract surgery I opted for premium lenses. Long story short I'm 8,000.00 in and they are telling me I still owe over 1000.00 and they sent it to collections without a single notification to me that i supposedly still owe for surgery. They operate shady having an "eye center and a surgical center". Yet they are unaffiliated??? But try and find separate contact phone numbers and good luck reaching surgical center!! SCAMMERS! I have asked multiple times for itemized invoice to no avail. I never write reviews please heed this warning. Keep in mind also that I paid upfront for both surgeries and they still coming after me for more. I may go to attorney general for help. read more

I wish I had known what I was getting into when referred here... I'm sitting here waiting to be seen at the 2.5 hour mark from my appointment time! My first appointment wasn't even this long. I will be asking for a new referral, and don't recall having ever left a business review here that wasn't a restaurant. The wait was too long for me to be seen, the lobby was packed but looked very clean. I was there early to fill out my paperwork. Hours went by as I sat in a corner nook. The staff looked busy as they called out our names, First, it was Mary, John, Donald, and others and finally me...James. I can see better than 20/20 because of the LASIK done by Dr. Schnipper at the Jacksonville Eye Center. I did wear glasses for 15 years before I finally considered having LASIK done. There are a lot of serious questions that I had to have answered and he laid them all to rest. He's a funny guy and that helps the whole situation. I think he sees a lot of very nervous people. Here's the most important things to take away that made me say "yes" to the procedure: The current LASIK procedure that he does is 100% lasers (a combination of the Intralase for the corneal flap and the Allegretto Wave Excimer Laser for the vision correction). There are no more blades involved (if someone says they're using blades, walk away). The lasers he uses follows the spherical contour of the eye instead of treating it like a flat plane (so issues of depth perception and distorted vision are a thing of the past). Your night vision will only be as good as it was when you could see (if you can remember that far back). The new lasers can be set to only go as wide as your pupil opens when it is dark outside and does not over correct causing the "halo" effect that many people complain about from older "broad lasers" that were kind of one-size-fits-all. Finally... "YES," your eyes will be a bit dry for a while, but it does go away. I promise. He ONLY performs the procedure if you're an EXCELLENT candidate (e.g. thick corneas, low eye dryness, etc.). He told me a story about a guy he said "no" to that went elsewhere to find someone who would say "yes" and the results were not good. There are profiteering centers out there, so watch out. Don't be fooled by heavily discounted offers. These are your eyes your dealing with and you have to be able to see for the rest of your life. It may seem expensive, but it's a life long investment that you won't regret. Tip: After the procedure, YOU MUST STAY ASLEEP FOR 4-5 HOURS. If for any reason you wake up, take more of the Ambien that they give you. If you're not sure, I'd just take one after you leave the office and a second when you get back to your bed. Do not do the surgery day alone. You really need someone with you. Honestly, I wouldn't go anywhere else to have this procedure done. The whole team was so thorough in making sure I was an excellent candidate for the procedure and the follow-up with making sure everything had gone well was very calming. Dr. Schnipper is first and foremost an accomplished eye surgeon who deals with things like cataracts and other serious eye conditions. It really gave me piece of mind knowing that he was handling my eyes for this elective procedure. So (for those of you far away)... if you can, I'd recommend booking 7 days in Jacksonville (with a companion as your designated driver) for a medical vacation: 1. Have you eyes tested before hand at an eye doctor so you don't waste your time getting out to Jacksonville. 2. Get your eyes re-tested at the center on a Monday. 3. Have the procedure on a Tuesday. 4. Get some sun. Eat some good food (Go to TAVERNA). Just say away from heavy winds, water in your eyes and pointy objects. 5. Return that Friday or Monday for your follow-up. 6. Fly back home and have a 3 month check-up with your eye doctor to make sure everything is OK. Dr. Schnipper is the best and you can rest easy knowing that he's going to help you see again. If you make an appointment, make sure you mention "George from LA" told you all about it. The floors were filthy... not just stained, but FILTHY. There was dead bugs everywhere, bug poop, and random clutter everywhere. Everything was gross and this is by far the WORST sort of medical office I've ever been in. I came here to get glasses, not to put dead bugs and filth in them. Furthermore, the receptionist was the rudest person. She said she's not taking any more people and she's going to lunch. SHADY! Ironically I'm not just talking about sunglasses! Let me just start by saying that this is my first yelp review ever and not because I'm pleased. On my first visit to this location to get my bifocals and sunglasses, everything seemed okay. My insurance covered one pair of inexpensive frames which was fine. I also brought a new pair of frames I liked to pay out of pocket for a pair of sunglasses. Many weeks later I received my regular glasses and was told my frames that I provided were lost. IT GETS BETTER! I was told I could pick out another set and that would replace my lost ones. A couple weeks later they called me and said they found my lost frames and because both were in the process of being made,offered me my original frames back as well for the inconvenience and extra weeks of waiting. NICE RIGHT?!? When I finally received my original frames back they were smashed deeply gouged scraped and flexed so wide that they could have fit on a volleyball! They had attempted to buff out the gouges and in the process complete destroyed the finish. They behaved like used car salesmen saying, " they don't look that bad!" And didn't even try to reshape them to fit my face but he lenses were brand new! You could totally tell they were trying to polish a turd. After getting a manager involved, they eventually discounted my damaged glasses and I paid the difference and left with a bad taste in my mouth. I'M NOT EVEN FINISHED! 2years later I returned to get my new prescription filled and was told that they had fired the person responsible for multiple screw ups. And told me that I had an outstanding balance of $250 and they conveniently lost the paper work, which I distinctly remember had PAID IN FULL circled at the top above the discount math 2 years later so had I. I ASK YOU!!! Does your optometrist let you leave with prescription sunglasses you haven't paid for?? I was told by the manager that she would look into it further and gave my her business card. She has NOT attempted to contact me and has actively avoided my attempts to reach her. Her name is Laura! I suggest avoiding having glasses made at this establishment. I instead get my glasses made through an online company called Lensabl and they are the bomb! read more

I looked up her other reviews and find she is not happy with anyone. I see she is not from Florida, maybe she reviewed the wrong Dr. Schnipper. Checked in less then 5mins before my appt for a free LASIK consultation. Filled out the obligatory paperwork and within 20 mins from stepping in the door was in the back starting the process. The waiting room definitely needs a makeover. The chairs are uncomfortable and the cleanliness is marginal. A technician does the measurements and strength of the prescription and the optometrist examines your dilated eyes. This was new to me as I am used to the optometrist taking care of the entire visit. I arrived early, but still had to wait past my appointment time. I cannot recommend this office when there are so many optometrists in town with better facilities and service. read more

Dr. Shnipper and his staff are amazing and very knowledgable. I had LASIK done and everything went extremely smooth from the testing to the surgery there was no pain or discomfort. Less than 12 hrs after the procedure I can see clearer than I did with my glasses and have very minimal discomfort. As I was waiting I had patients tell me that there old doctor actually recommended Dr. Shnipper. If your looking for a LASIK doctor don't look any farther Dr. Shnipper is your guy. When you are at the mercy of a physcian that is holding a scalpel to your eye, you don't have a tendency to say much. You just pray you've made the right decision. Dr. Schnipper was a bad choice. The first visit, I had a lens implant in my right eye. I chose NOT to have anesthesia. Holy Lord, you'd have thought I was committing a deadly sin. He was not happy and argued with me. Well, I finally made my point that I just wanted the eye numbed and in I went for the surgery. I was relaxed and calm and, remember, I was fully awake. No anesthesia. I guess Dr.S decided to try to prove his point that I should have drugs and he turned the laser on to make that awful sound and try to make me jump or whatever. His nurse said, " Wow. She's calmer than most of our patients". I should have changed doctors to have the other eye done. I should have, I should have. But I didn't and that was a mistake. Before the left eye was scheduled, the nurse called and I reinforced the fact that I wanted the left eye exactly the same as the right eye because my eyes do not work independently. She said "Yes. That's what is scheduled". Afterwards, when I'm in the recovery bed, Dr. Schnipper approaches and says"I decided to change the prescription strength in your left eye." ???!!! I am laying there in shock! Scared speechless. What in God's name has he done to my eye?!? Well, I can tell you now, my left eye has stayed blurry. It weeped for ages. It had to have a YAG done to it. The State of Florida needs to make a law where the eye physician has to sign a paper stating, in advance, what he is going to do to our eyes. I have to live with this for THE REST OF MY LIFE. God only knows what else he has done to other patients; the elderly, the disabled, and others that cannot speak for themselves. You that are reading this are lucky. You have been warned. What you do with the warning is your choice. Choose wisely. Choose another doctor. read more

This place wait times to pick up or pick out glasses is horrible. I had to wait 2 hours to pick up my glasses that took 4 weeks to come from the lab. They told me the glasses would be in within 2 weeks. Not a happy camper I asked for a discount to be told no due to insurance. The lady asked her manager is she could do something to accommodate me and was told yes. She came back and offered me a free pair of glasses and gave me several trays to select from. Glasses again suppose to be in within 2 weeks. Here we go again no glasses and the office manager will give you a call. That was on Friday last week. So I called Monday and again today. Still no glasses and I was told the manager would give me a call the young lady that placed the order is no longer working there. No call from the manager until I wrote a review online. She stated to me that she can't provide me the glasses I chose unless I paid for them. She only approved for me to get readers for free. Not my fault your employee did the opposite nor was I in on that conversation. She remembers that day very well. This is unacceptable and poor customer service.
