My sister-in-law took my wife and I to a deli for some New York Pastrami and soup. She had been here a while ago and really enjoyed it and thought it would be a fun place for lunch. A nice size, comfortable restaurant with a cool comfortable ambiance. We walked in and were immediately seated. Moments later our server came to the table and took a drink order. Pretty simple... coffee and two waters. When she returned with our drinks we gave her our lunch order. 1/2 Pastrami sandwich on rye with mushroom barley soup and two 1/2 sandwiches with chicken matzoh ball soup. Shortly after ordering, our soups came out. I reminded her that we only ordered 'cups' of soup (see picture). She explained "That's our cup." She later showed me their bowl. Large, really large... definitely a meal by itself. The Pastrami sandwiches then showed up with their respective sides... cole slaw, pickled cucumbers and fries. (I had the fires and they were perfect.) Many people know that doesn't happen all the time. The sandwiches were loaded with pastrami on a delicious rye. This was one good sandwich and I will definitely be back. Overall a great place with excellent food and service. Most of the reviews are four and five stars which I get... For the people who gave one to three, why? PLEASE, stop complaining because of an experience that you had that can be easily resolvable. I've visited here a 1/2 dozen times within the past few years when I visit the area. Never a disappointment. The food is always fresh and whatever you order is plentiful & flavorful. Their matzo ball soup is delish! I wish I had a picture this time, but I ordered the vegetable soup with my 1/2 sandwich. The server said it was delicious & it was. I love the pickle spear that is a given on any sandwich plate. Also, they're known for their Hot Pastrami sandwiches on fresh rye. OhMyGosh, it was like melt in your mouth delicious. I promise that you will not leave hungry. The decor is very simple and always clean (even the redtrooms) Tables for plenty. There wasn't a wait when we arrived but they had a house full when we left. Based on a friend's recommendation, we went for lunch. Unbeknownst to us, the restaurant's heating source for cooking was not working. It would have been helpful for an employee to tell us this before we sat down and decided on our order. The waiter was apologetic when finally visited our table and explained the situation. Since we were in a hurry, we decided to stay and order supposedly available items. My friend requested a brisket sandwich, and I ordered an egg salad sandwich. A short while later the waiter returned and said that neither of those options were available as they had not been previously cooked. I settled for a tuna salad sandwich on a bagel with a side of potato salad. I requested that the lettuce and tomato be excluded. My friend ordered a tongue sandwich on rye bread with coleslaw. The tuna tasted good but the bagel was not fresh. The tongue was tough and disappointing. My sandwich had the lettuce and tomato on it, despite my asking for them to be removed. Someone dropped the ball on this simple request, thereby resulting in wasted food as I did not eat these items. This was the first time I visited Jacob's and probably will be the last for a while. Despite the mishap with the heating issue (stuff happens!), I don't believe the restaurant handled the situation very well from a service perspective, and the food we had was just not up to par. We came here to try lunch with them. We started off with the split pea soup. Soup is not salty at all. I feel as if they are cooking towards their audience of an older population. While sitting here I heard a microwave being used ? Kinda weird for a place to be using a microwave for a deli. We ordered the matzah ball soup, split pea, Reuben and Rachel sandwiches. We got our food. Ok the fries on the sandwiches, you can tell we're frozen and then heat using cold oil. Very soggy. The sandwiches were good. The bread was thick and grilled. I liked that touch. The soups were bland as I believe it has to be made for their clientele which is an older crowd. I'm not kidding I don't think salt was put in the soups. Haven't been here since last year visiting from New Jersey but it is always amazing. The service was a little slow getting coffee but then it picked up. The food was delicious. This was our first stop as soon as we landed. I ended up with chicken salad. Nice size portion the bagel was a bit overcooked and the Cole slaw needed more mayo. This pickle was absolutely delicious! Holy Smokes! - After 1 Year - I think I may have discovered the best "Kosher Style" Deli in Palm Beach County - Too think, now the wife and I are actually moving away from this overcrowded place! Hidden/Nestled away in Boyton Beach - Yes, I was the youngest guy in the Dining Room - Nevertheless, the purpose of this review is to draw attention to this gem of a place. Unfortunately or fortunately - depending how you look at it, this place is not "Legally Kosher" for all intensive purposes. Nevertheless - we are dealing w/ Kosher Style - Jacob's was suggested to me by one of my patients and I've already been there twice in one week. Place is filled w/ the "Boyton Crowd" - who I'm convninced is doing there best to keep a lid on this place. Food is excellent and the prices won't break the bank. Owner/Operator Jose Jacobs is on premise everyday but Wednesday - from what I'm told. Meats are "Cured" on Premise - which is a rariety. Rye Bread is baked on premise and truly is the star of the place; Absolutely delicious! - You are not going to find anything like it anywhere! I've been told the Turkey is amazing and look forward to trying. They have a tremendously amazing menu that will satisfy the most discerning meshuganah. If you are reading this - than stop what you are doing and get out and try this place. OMG - The Matzah Ball soup was really good! Please tell the waitress to smile a bit more! It makes the food taste that much better. Otherwise no complaints! Would avoid on Wednesday - because that's the Owner/Operators day off. This was my first time eating here, and I should have walked out after I walked in, but the cashier failed to see me. I finally asked a gentleman who was waiting at the first table, and he told me to sit anywhere. I took a menu, which I should have looked at before sitting down. I was surprised at how limited it was. I then watched a server bring over menus and greet the table before me despite them sitting down after me. I got up to leave when the same kind of gentleman apologized and asked me what he could bring me to drink. He was the only positive part of this experience. I ordered a simple meal of a bagel with whitefish salad and asked for no tomato. Other than the fact that it lacked onion, it came out correctly. However, the fish was the driest whitefish salad I have ever seen, and the taste reflected that. Like the missing onion and the lack of mayonnaise, it had no flavor. After getting four bones in my mouth, I gave up. The cashier was not at his station, but a kind lady working behind me acknowledged me and said he would be there. I will assume he was using the lav and give him the benefit of the doubt. He did not ask how my meal was, and I did not offer. I couldn't be in there for another minute. I haven't been so pleased to enjoy that NY-style deli other than Rein's Deli all the way up in Connecticut until Jacob's became that deli dream that I always wanted to visit for delicious food. Today (8/21), I had the chance to visit this establishment while we are in Florida to vacation for over a week. The employees at Jacob's are kind and pleasing which I liked. At Jacob's, there's more than just deli. Whether you're in the mood for a slice of Reuben sandwich or a salad, you'll be more than happy to satisfy yourself because the food is real good. I ordered shrimp salad (yes, I said shrimp), as well as potato pancakes and so much more of the good. There's a lot of shrimp in that salad bowl. They give you sauerkraut on top of Reuben, which is sweet. They also have Styrofoam containers and bags for takeouts or to have food brought home once you're full before you finish a dish. Want something more? There are dessert options as well such as sugar free pie and cookies. I primarily came here with the whole family because it's my first name (duuuhhh!!!!!!) and the fact that they serve up a good New York style deli I thought. I am not sure how I missed this place. I have gone to the bigger name delis for many years and never went here. That was a mistake. This is my new favorite local deli. The meat is very good and prepared well. The chopped liver is good and the potato pancakes are excellent. The rye is baked in the store and the best I have in a long time. So, I decided not to ask for salt and pepper for the fries, I assumed they were seasoned to perfection. And who the hell puts noodles in matzah ball soup? Potato Pancakes: C+ Very subpar. Obviously from a mix, which isn't NECESSARILY bad, I've had halfway decent latkes from a box, but like the matzah ball soup, they had zero flavor. No black pepper at all. No schmaltz. A neighbor brought me matzoh ball soup from Jacobs. The matzoh balls came in a separate styrofoam container, and I had a container with soup and egg noodles. The matzoh ball was light and fluffy and the soup was bland. My chicken soup is more flavorful with lots of chicken, vegetables & herbs. I'm glad the soup wasn't salty. If you're looking for fancy or high end, this isn't for you. If you're able to over look the basic decor of the inside dining area, for very good deli food, then come here. They had a number of lunch specials plus their regular menu. We toyed with a hot dog special (posted by the register), but we both decided to get the half sandwich and soup lunch special. The soup of the day was cabbage soup -- which my husband got. In addition to the cabbage, there were carrot pieces, potatoes, and an occasional raisin. Except for the raisins (I don't cook with them), he said it reminded him of my sweet stuffed cabbage. I got their matza ball soup. I added salt, but the "ball" was light and fluffy. The noodles were cooked through, but not mushy. Both soups were much larger than expected -- served in full size bowls. As the waitress said, "they don't do cups there." My half tuna salad sandwich came with lettuce and a tomato slice along with a half sour pickle. The pickle was my kind -- crunchy and just this side of a cucumber. My side of coleslaw also was my preferred kind -- slightly sweet and not too much mayonnaise. The rye bread was wonderful. Crusty on the outside edge with the perfect texture inside. I bought some of this bread to go. And yes, I liked my sandwich a lot. My husband's half pastrami sandwich was very good as well. The pastrami had a nice seasoned edge, was sliced thin, and wasn't too fatty (which can happen with pastrami). He had potato salad as his side and said it too was very good. Visiting family in Boynton Beach we brought dinner in from Jacob's. We were glad we called ahead for take out the place was MOBBED! It is clearly a local favorite and I can tell you why, their rye bread is fantastic, they pile their sandwiches high with whatever meat you order. They're friendly and efficient our order was ready at the exact time they said it would be. We all had different sandwiches and we all thought they were delicious. It's a very small restaurant and the decor or I should say lack of decor is apparent. The food on the other hand was excellent. The chipped liver was very fresh and tasted wonderful especially on their freshly baked crusty rye bread. I had the stuffed cabbage- just like my mom made-delicious. No wonder the board of health gave this place some violations. The danishes are absolutely vile. They tasted like bananas. They must've stored them next to the bananas. French fries were cold. Oy! That was incredible. The service was good and the food was out of this world great! We seated ourselves on a Saturday for lunch and wondered why they were not more busy because this is a great restaurant. The plaza location is good and they have signage from the street. Still can't understand why they are not busier. We were given menus from our server Geoff. The menu had everything you could want from a deli menu. Prices were competitive with the other delis in Boynton and surrounding cities. We decided on a 1/2 Whitefish salad sandwich with a Bowl of Matzoh Ball Soup. The matzoh ball was fluffy and huge. There were a lot of noodles and the soup was delicious. The Whitefish was super fresh and piled high on the fresh sliced rye bread. I had seen pictures of the Tongue sandwich and had been thinking about having one as I have not had a cow tongue sandwich since I was a kid. It was warmed on the griddle and piled onto the fresh sliced rye bread with added Swiss Cheese. There was no fat and it was just perfect. The sandwiches came with a pickle half and I asked for a little more and got both kinds of pickles. They were great. My side choice I went with was the cucumber salad and eventhough Geoff said it was not suggested that day I went with it anyways and was so glad I did. I thought it was delicious and ate every last Cucumber slice. I even put a few slices in my tongue sandwich. I will warn you that the kitchen was really slow and gave us some concern but when we received our food and took the 1st bite, we forgot about the wait and fell in love with this place. Saturday took out Hot Open Face Turkey Sandwich and it was the best ever. Turkey sliced from off the frame. Gravy was in a cup to add when eaten, and that was so delicious! Deli for lunch today! We were eliminating foods we weren't in the mood for, so when my wife mentioned Deli, it appealed to both of us. In the area and en route home, Jacob's was easy to find and glad we did! The foot long chili dog with knish sign caught my eye as we walked in...but as we looked over the menu at our table, I changed my target to the half sandwich with soup special. I chose the half Pastrami on Rye, Potato salad and the cabbage soup, it came with a half sour pickle. The Cabbage Soup was wonderful and reminded me of my wife's sweet stuffed cabbage rolls. My half deli Pastrami sandwich was piled high with tasty Pastrami slices which was tender and had a nice bark or crust with just the right spice flavorings. A no-nonsense deli restaurant with friendly service and good food served up fairly quickly. We came down from Wellington for the Pastrami sandwich and were not dissatisfied: a generous amount of meat on rye bread. Also ordered the 4 Potato Pancakes: despite what might be considered a little pricey, they are huge and delicious.
