Frozen hot chocolate
Stephanie P.

My first time in NY so I had to try the infamous Frozen hot chocolate. The workers were very nice and patient. They have lots of amazing chocolate, however the frozen hot chocolate itself was kinda underwhelming. I was hoping for more of a chocolaty rich flavor but the flavors seemed muted. If you're in grand central, just follow all the signs and it will lead you to the shop!

Yes! I'm pigging out today! 05/31/18

You all are bugging me. Well here's my choice for review Number 1000! I'm on a binge today after having so much fun with Yelp Friend Nik T. From Yelp Singapore. I ended up having a salad at Grand Central. Do you really think I can end an eating binge without desert? Hell NO! I looked around and I kept seeing people with ice cream. I then remembered my favorite chocolatier Jacques Torres has an ice cream shop on the food concourse. I looked over the flavors. You that know me know I'm a Peanut Butter lover. I spotted two flavors with Peanut Butter. The wonderful helpful employee let me taste test both. In my old age I forgot that Rocky Road has marshmallows. I'm not a fan. That flavor I disapproved immediately was called Peanut Butter Rocky Road. After seeing the price per scoop was very reasonable I selected the Peanut Butter Cookies and Cream. I couldn't believe a scoop with tax is $3.81! Uptown at trendy ice cream parlors a scoop is $6! The ice cream is delicious! So there you have it. Delicious ice cream, a reasonable price, kind friendly staff and counter seating is available. I'm glad the pressure is over about review 1000! Now go have yourself a scoop to celebrate!

Went out for shopping last Monday with a close girlfriend who's moving to London this week and since we were in the area, we thought we'd try one of NYC's reputed best hot chocolate drinks. We saw that it was bar seating setup and that ambiance is lacking, noting that this was basically inside Grand Central. We went ahead at the promise of delicious hot chocolate and in all fairness, the hot chocolate was delicious but...unfortunately the staff and service was practically non-existent. There were initially 2 girls that afternoon and honestly looked like they'd rather be elsewhere. I feel bad for the owner and manager of this place/brand. First, one of them spilled the drink and caused a mess, we didn't call her out on it, we just observed. Second, they were practically just hiding when there were no other customers coming by. Third, when new customers came in, they offered 'do you want a free upgrade to your drink?'. Well apparently there was a sign posted that there's an on going promo to up the drink but they never offered us that. In fact, I clearly remembered being asked, small or large? I asked how the cups looked and I said, small. Any sales or relationship building person who wants repeat business should have mentioned the promo or heck even just upgraded it for instant customer delight, which would result to repeat business and recommendations. Sadly not coming back to this place. Perhaps I'd try their other branches if really craving for their hot chocolate. P.S Two other guys joined them eventually so they actually looked crowded altogether as 4 people behind the counter who couldn't be bothered. The irony of having more than enough staff but not enough service.

Not good!

Since my friend and I were in the Grand Central Terminal during a rainy day and wanted something sweet, we randomly stumbled upon this place. One scoop of gelato was around $5 or $6 bucks so pretty normal price. I got the Banana flavor. I tried both mine and my friend's, and oh man, were they sweet. Not only was the ice cream way too sweet, but the staff was pretty rude. One of the workers told us to put back the chairs when we were done because we had moved them to sit closer to a countertop. But that's their job, not the customers. Was it that tough to step out of their counter to move two chairs back a couple steps? If they could step out to tell us, they could step back out again to move the chairs back. This explains why this place has low ratings.

Best hot chocolate!

One of the best hot chocolates here. They have spicy one too but I usually go for the dark chocolate one. They have variety of premium chocolates, ice cream, macaron and cakes. I actually find their boxed maracons cheaper than other brands so it looks like a pretty decent gift for a special day. It's a must stop by place on a cold windy day by the tracks of underground train station area. I want to go back to try their slices of cakes and baked goods. They looked really good.

My bf and I were on the hunt for dessert around GCT. A fellow friend had mentioned Jacques Torres Ice Cream in his GCT Yelp review, so we thought, "why not?" and decided to pay this place a visit. Like any ice-cream shop, they serve a variety of ice-cream flavors. However, most of them turned out to be chocolatey flavors AKA not my favorite flavors. At least the guy was nice about letting us sample. In the end, we settled on 3 scoops: Hazelnut Chip, Vanilla and Cookies n Cream. Instead of the same guy scooping, another female worker did the scooping for us. It is interesting to note that she scooped our ice cream into a small cup instead of a large cup when we had ordered the largest size ice cream. As a result, she basically squished all our scoops into one small cup. Then, she used her bare hands to take out a waffle cone and placed it right on top of our ice cream. Sanitation alert... Code RED! The ice cream didn't look as appetizing after seeing how she made our order. As for the ice cream itself, it wasn't anything special. Standard flavors. Wasn't a big fan of the ice cream's consistency either. I'm pretty sure there are better ice cream options out there.

We had a good experience here. We were served our three scoops of ice cream in a large cup in a quick and professional manner. They have bar stool seating on a counter around the ice cream "stand." One side seats about 4-5 people along with the other side, so totaling 8-10 bar stool seats. They have giant, enormous cookies in clear trays with a lid that look so delicious. They have freshly squeezed lemonade and other shakes available. The menu and customer service was good overall for an ice cream place in Grand Central Terminal. There was a time when the lights/electricity for this small store went out for a couple seconds but it was no big deal. They fixed the problem and continued working. The flavors of ice cream were good but not our favorite. I guess this place is more famous for its chocolate creations (as learned from Food Network)!

Strawberry ice cream

I came here two days ago and ordered a nutella crepe with bananas with a side of strawberry ice cream. Their scoops are usually $4-5 each depending on the size you get. The crepes are anywhere from $6-8. If you get a scoop of ice cream on the side of a crepe though, it's only an additional $1, which is what I got. The crepe was pretty good. I don't recommend getting bananas with the nutella crepe because they made the crepe harder to cut, and kind of took away from the flavor of the crepe, plus they were kind of mushy since the crepe was warm. The strawberry ice cream was okay. I thought it would go well with the crepe, but it came in a cup on the side. I should have went with a different flavor in that case. Anyway, there are a few seats on the side if you want to get your food to stay, and ALL of the staff were super friendly, which is rare. Gave me a lasting impression.

expensive... but worth it. mango was so mango it made my brain squint... salted caramel was lightly salted for you water retention types, and heavily sugared for you diabetic euthanasia types. get both and eat them in five minutes like i did. it will turn your pancreas green, your liver yellow, your teeth will chatter with freezing sweetness, as your taste buds swell up, poke out, and slump over like a Christmas tree in April. take out a mortgage, fly to new york, bring a spoon, a liter of insulin, and your last will and testament. you'll live well, but not long, on my new and exciting Jacque Torres candy & ice cream diet. a delicious demise awaits you!

rocky road

Outstanding gelato. The"wicked" chocolate was spicy and creamy and dark. The rocky road was perfect. Service was knowledgeable and efficient.

There are different types of cold treats: gelatos and more slushie like consistency frozen confections that are served in a cup. My vegan friend appreciated that he could choose from multiple vegan flavors, not just be limited to the one and only offering, which is what most places usually have. Melon flavor was incredible. Tasted like frozen melon was crushed with ice and chopped into an ice/smoothie blend. Super refreshing. Very sweet, though. All flavors are very sweet, so a small portion can be shared and you will feel satisfied. I personally enjoyed their in-house special flavor of gelato: honey cream with crushed almonds, pistachios, and hazelnuts. That was bombastic! Love how nutty the consistency was. I love nuts, so this almost reminded me of a chunky peanut butter situation: just more fine grained and smooth, with gelato being the base. Highly recommend trying this flavor! Focacia was okay. A bit too dry and bland for my liking, but still decent. My favorite item was the pistachio bombolone which is officially now my favorite dessert. This was magnificent! The yeasty dough was so light and airy--perfectly light and balanced. The filling of pistachio cream was very delicate and not sweet at all, which was such a nice surprise. I do not like saccharine dessert. The fresh raspberry jam was a perfect balance to the pistachio cream. I never like jams in my desserts, but this was a perfect complement. Woooow, what a treat! Can't wait to return for it and to try more of their other flavors--hazelnut & chocolate, coconut, white chocolate, tiramisu. You could taste the superb quality of the ingredients. Highly recommend.

And I'm from Maryland (Murlyn), I don't mean a sno-ball. I mean that flaky, instantly melting ice carved mechanically using some kind of drill motor with all the torque, off a block the size of a dorm fridge and then topped with syrupy fruits and condensed milk and such. And this wasn't that either, but I now need to find a place for this near me. It was more like regular ice cream at a soft-serve consistency, topped with all the things-- that part was as expected. Hubs & I were thinking of getting two different things but we both wanted the mango madness, and then the checkout person said it was the size of a quart container. So just one then. I wish we got to see it being made up but it was full in there (at 10p, after the theaters let out), and they seated us and gave us a buzzer that went off almost immediately. We almost didn't finish it even between the two of us. Absolutely delicious, just overwhelmingly enormous. It could be a low-grade food challenge to complete it! And with all that fruit, actual mango chunks and a banana, it's practically a healthy snack. Gotta find one of these closer to home!

In the mood for gelato so good it ruins all other gelato for you?…read more Amorino Gelato in NYC is easily one of my favs! I was just walking by when they were handing out samples, took one bite, and immediately turned around to buy a full serving. It was THAT good. In fact, I went back the very next day... no regrets. There's just something special about their gelato--especially when topped with that rich pistachio sauce. On a previous visit to their Times Square location, I had one of their more decadent creations: gelato with waffle sticks and pistachio sauce. It was absolutely heavenly and incredibly delicious. This time, I didn't have room for something quite as indulgent, but I still wanted something sweet after dinner at La Basque. The closest Amorino was in Greenwich Village, just a 10-minute walk away. That walk alone is always a treat--Greenwich Village is charming, pedestrian-friendly, and full of outdoor dining and energy, especially on a September Saturday afternoon. I grabbed my gelato to-go and chose the amarena and hazelnut flavors, topped with the signature pistachio sauce. They poured the sauce at the bottom of the cup, and it hardened slightly to create a delicious shell underneath the gelato. I enjoyed it while walking through the Village, soaking in the late-summer atmosphere of the city with gelato in hand. Simple, sweet, and exactly what I needed.
