Eating here has become a lottery. Some days the food is great, but other days--like tonight--it's extremely disappointing. I spent $52.64 and couldn't even eat my meal. I ordered the boneless ribs combo, and the meat was completely unseasoned and bland. The pieces were extremely tough and chewy, almost like eating mulch. I've been ordering the same dish for years, so I know exactly how it should taste, and tonight's order was a total waste of money. This isn't the first time the quality has been inconsistent, and unfortunately it's becoming frustrating. I been going here for a while now and i usually get fried rice but this time i got the lunch special as well got the pork lo mein i think the pork lo mein was ok but the fried rice that was in this is very overcooked burnt good wok hei but not too sure, The house special fried rice is my first time getting it here also i usually get pork fried rice only and also got hot and sour soup. The hot sour soup is good. I ask for bean sprouts off for both fried rice and lo mein so very nice to have that taken off as usual. I should have ask for no peas either. The house special fried rice I dont think i ever had 1 one mushroom in it why put mushroom? and tons of brocolli too. Why put that i dont know. i also see they have the big tea containers maybe next time i will get that. I tried the vietnamese melon can drink that has tons of melon pieces in it on the bottom really melon flavor like the melon. The inside is clean as usual and big space to dine in. At this particular location, they always ensure that you're calling the General Booth location so you know which store to pick up from, which is great customer service. I admire that the food is always prepared quickly and tastes fresh every single time. The Triple Delight is one of my favorite dishes. It's a mix of chicken, shrimp and pork combined with vegetables in a brown sauce and it's delicious. It's served as a Combination Plate which includes Pork Fried Rice and a Pork Egg Roll. The staff is always very friendly and I love that they have open boxes of Soy Sauce, Duck Sauce and Hot Mustard so you can take as many condiments as you need. We were starving on the day we placed an order and I'm so glad I gave it another try from Jade Garden. Yes, the previous visit wasn't exactly the best. But it wasn't the worst and I definitely appreciated their COVID-19 protocol put in place and the fast and speedy order fulfillment. The sesame chicken we got was absolutely perfect. The chicken was crispy and tender. It wasn't sickly sweet or grossly soggy. Or overcooked. It was just right. The portions were good enough to have both me and my husband well fed, AND have enough leftover for later. The rice that came with the meal was actually nice and moist. I got so used to getting dry unwashed rice from elsewhere so this was a nice surprise. The fried rice was also delicious. I liked how they added bits of bean sprouts. It gave a nice crunchy texture. I have to do that with my fried rice I make at home too!! After having a really lousy experience from nearby Brooklyn Bagel store, this visit reminded me why I love visiting small businesses in the area. I could not even identify the pu pu platter items, they were fried beyond recognition into crispy burnt gnarled things or fried to a burnt outside and mushy inside. The meat was too tough to chew. The egg roll tasted just bizarre. No flavor, the cabbage was almost paste it was so mushy, the wrapper was chewy and tough. The general tso's tofu pieces were HARD (?!) and there three pieces of brown broccoli with it. Lo mein noodles were way too soft, they would just fall off the fork. Singapore pancit was okay. I gave over $90 of this food to my friend who normally will eat absolutely anything and he spit out the very first bite of the egg roll. Jade Garden is delicious! I just moved to the area in the spring and have been here probably 4-5 times. I moved from the country so I was a bit shocked at how expensive the food out here is compared to where I came from an hour away. Other than that, Jade Garden is my favorite Chinese take out spot in the immediate area. I use their online ordering system and pay when I get there. They have taken the COVID precautions seriously. They are behind plexiglass and have a window they place the food into when your order is up. Sauces and cutlery is on a side table where you grab it yourself. There is no delivery here, only pick up. As of now they are still not allowing for dine in, although they have a dining room when things pass over. I get the general's chicken and it's always crispy and delicious. I've been going here for 20 years and the food was excellent I stopped in last week and the food was horrible. I ordered house like mien with extra shrimp. The shrimp (about five) was the size of dimes and the noodles were old and brown. My wife ordered the garlic chicken which was okay but contained too much spice. I knew I wanted hot and sour soup but I was so hungry that I'd need more so I tried the Teriyaki chicken skewers. I don't know about this meat...it doesn't remind me of chicken but in all fairness the seasoning was on point. Their hot and sour soup is not as good as the one I order at my usual Chinese restaurant and it's about 70 cents more for the small soup but it was okay. There is a Chinese Restaurant called Super Wok II off Fordham Drive in VA Beach. That place is outstanding. The food is always good and the food is consistent. My experience with Jade Chinese food today was a very big disappointment. I got General Tsao's Chicken and Sweet and Sour Chicken for my wife to try-I did this hoping we could start going to Jade because it is closer to us. The General Tsao's chicken was not crispy, and it did not have much sauce. My wife remarked that the General Tsao's chicken was like a box meal from the store. I agree with her assessment. I am really disappointed that every bite was almost pretty much chewy unpleasant breading in a tasty sauce.. the fried rice is decent.
