Visual- Scary, Dirty, strange deep fried food prep on one of the dining tables, kids skateboards and stuff next to the fridge. Tasteual- Delicious! First off, don't let the reviews fool you. Jade house is one of those places that Anthony Bourdain might visit if he were to ever do a piece on Pittsburgh, CA. Not that he would haha, but it would truly reflect the tasty authentic food you would find in a reservation such as this... a diamond in a rough as most would say. Jade House, is exactly this. A diamond in rough where you can find scrumptious delights that will immediately satisfy your taste buds and need for some authentic Chinese food. The restaurant offers 3 distinct features that keep me and family going back for: 1) The restaurant is family owned and they are very friendly - very customer service oriented. 2) They cook the food right in front of you. That's right! Nothing is hidden from you as you would usually see in another restaurant. Everything is plain sight... you see all the ingredients going in and getting cooked.. An added incentive for me and my family when we dine!! Usually the father of the family is chef but sometimes, the youngest son will and at times the mother and sister. 3) The food there is delicious! Been here a few times, and the food is hot, made fresh, & pretty decent tasting. Our to-go orders have always been correct, which is good, because I HATE getting home to find that food is missing, made incorrectly, or old / not fresh. That's not the case here, at least never for us. When we ate in the restaurant (it's very small, better to take your food to-go), the service was friendly and efficient. He explained a couple items that I had questions about, and made appropriate suggestions & options for each dish. Everything came out in a timely manner, with the proper serving utensils, dishware, napkins, and an offer to refill drinks and / or anything else we needed. We were checked on at the right time intervals, and boxes were brought as soon as needed. Good, solid establishment. Just had Jade House for the first time! I'm new to the area and love trying Chinese spots...got the rice dish with green beans and shrimp. It was delicious! I asked how long they've been there..22 years! Damn that says something! I use to work at my parents Chinese restaurant so I know how much work goes into it. I'm not sure if this place was closed yesterday because it was the day after Christmas but my mom and I wanted to try it so we waited until Yelp said it opened. 11:10 we went and nothing was open nor does anyone pick up the phone. So I walked up to see if someone was in the back maybe they just are running late. I see on the door a YELLOW sign for the restaurant review from health codes visit. First good restaurants have green as in go everything passed, nope this has four things checked off one being insects/ rodents EWWWWWW I stopped reading and just walked away and told my mom we're never going here. I still love this place! They've been around for 20 years. It's a local favorite!!! Fresh food made in front of your face, cool to watch the hot wok make your food. Not one of those Panda Express spots where food sits for hours. Food is sooooo good here. The chef in the past worked at a lot of well know Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area before opening his own shop. I would agree it's not the nicest place to eat at but then again that's how most authentic Chinese restaurants in Chinatown are. Lol Place is a gem! The folks here are real nice. It's a Family biz that's been around forever. It's real sweet to see the grandkids now working there as an after school job. My favorites: 1. After getting a fill from Nail Palace a few doors down, I was hungry and looking for a quick dinner. Hadn't had Chinese in awhile and noticed this place with a to go sign lighting up. I was hoping this place served individual meals as opposed to family style so in order to spare myself from embarrassment and walking in to ask, I went to my car and pulled up yelp. To my satisfaction, fellow yelp users listed the menu and I was able to see a miraculous selection of rice place all priced under $6. Hallelujah. So, I called and placed an order for the orange chicken rice plate with steamed rice. Hung up, changed my mind that I wanted fried rice ('cause the pics of it look good), tried to call back. Line was busy. Never mind. Stuck with steamed rice. Still regret it. The chicken was OK. The canned Coke helped. You know I love me a Cola. It washed it down pretty good. Anyway. I'd be willing to try this again. The pics look great and while the flavor for me just wasn't quite up to par, it was not bad for a $6 dinner and the portion was huge. Could easily feed 2 people. Stumbled upon this place when we were driving through Pittsburg and we were really pleasantly delighted by the quality and authenticity of the food! We ordered several of the chef special dishes including the Walnut Prawns and Mongolian Beef - all of them were really delicious and well made! I also really liked the Crab Rangoon appetizers - their's were really crispy and savory! Great food for less than $7 a dish. What more could you ask for. If you are looking for romantic ambiance, you may want to head to another area, but if you want excellent family style food... This is the place. I ate here for the first time in months and it is still super tasty. You have to ask them to do it traditional style if you don't like all the sauce, as that, in my opinion, tends to overpower the dish. Seems like some people enjoy their food smothered in sauce, but I think it tastes better the way the owners would cook it for themselves to eat. Prawns are always on hit and their lunch plates are huge for $5. I used to live out here and would eat this all the time, but moving 40 minutes away, it has become a treat whenever I am on this side of the map. Again, if you are scared of heat, clanging pans and shoulder to shoulder diners munching away... Get it to-go. Otherwise, come in, order away and leave feeling full of good food without blowing all of your allowance in one place. Fish tank is still overstocked, but hey, I notice these things. I would like to consider myself a Baron of Chinese Food, the Chairman of The Chinese Food scene, if they made an Iron Chef show based on Chinese Food alone and it's styles, I would be the flashy Chairman of that show. But this isn't a tv show and I just so happen to Yelp, so here we go with another Chinese Food review and this time it's about the Jade Palace. 2 - 28 - 16 I had just got done doing my dj session and packing my equipment up for the day. I was hungry and my taste for the day was indeed Chinese! There are quite a few Chinese places in my hood and very few that I haven't tried, so after bookmarking this places ages ago, I decided today was a no brainer, I was going to try out the Jade Palace finally, based off Yelp reviews this place seemed to have a pretty mixed opinion. I don't mind mixed opinions because it gives me room to leave a review and opinion I feel based off what I really feel and not be alone if someone thinks I'm a "hater" it just means that I'm not alone in my opinion. And here I definitely wasn't blown away.. Jade Palace is located off Harbor St, Small World Park, the ever popular Starbread bakery and Country Skillets are in the small little strip this establishment is located. The inside isn't nothing too special, a few dine in tables and dirty floors, a fishless and waterless fishtank and a junkpile in the back corner of the restaurant. You can almost tell from the atmosphere that they prefere people to have to go orders instead of eating in just from the overall vibe. 2/5 stars for Cleanliness 3/5 stars for The Food 4/5 stars for the Service I decided to order the plate lunch special, that consists of a selected menu meat or seafood item and fried or steamed rice. And the prices range from $5.50 - $5.95 and that of course without the acceptable taxes. So in all my total for the day was $12.99 for two plates, so individual prices for both plates with the tax was around $6.49 but I just say $6.50. I ordered the Mandarin Chicken and Mongolian Beef plates. They seemed to popular among the reviews I've read so I went with the flow and just followed the popular options so to speak. The Mandarin Chicken was okay, not great. To be honest the frozen chinese food meals that you find at grocery stores taste just the same as this. The chicken was bread battered instead of the usual tempura style that is usually used in Chinese and other ethnic Asian cultures, if not pan seared. It was a huge let down considering that next to Sesame Chicken and General Chicken, Mandarin is my next fav. The sauce was tasty at least but tasted more "orangy" than Mandarin..no puns intended. The Mongolian Beef was better and the portion was tiny as compared to the heaping portion of lackluster fried rice they gave me. The beef was tender and the sauce flavorful. They had more cut up onions in the dish than they had beef, I was dissapointed because I was looking forward to this after the let down that was the Mandarin Chicken. The fried rice was tasty but it had no veggies and hardly any egg. It was lightly fried and doused in an oyster sauce or black bean sauce from what it seemed like. They gave you more of this than the main courses in the plate lunches. Will I be back? Trust me I'm in no hurry to go back but....I will give this place another shot eventually. They are not a hot plate styled establishment, they cook the food after you order it. They are Mandarin and Cantonese in style so if you like the fried and spicy stuff a lot....only a small selection here, might have to look elsewhere. In closing, Asia Express and E&G are very close by so this place isn't at the very top of my list. But, the prices here are pretty reasonable so that may be what would make me come back. So if you happen to be in Pittsburg area and want something "Chinese" give this place a try and don't forget to Yelp your own experience. read more

I love Jades House. I go out of my way to go there! Most of the reviews are right! Kids & Dirt are pretty much what holds this place together one would think! But.... The food.. YUM! No veggies in the Fried rice with garlic and extra egg.. YUMMY Black bean spare ribs YUM!! I give it 4 stars for the food alone.. The place is VERY dirty. I always take my food to go. The young lady who takes the orders!!! She is RUDE as all hell. I have eaten here less over the years because of her attitude alone , She is 3secs from someone throwing a box a rice at her!!!!! On a Friday or Saturday night, I recommend calling to order If you're doing a pickup because they do a lot of phone orders so it'll take forever! I waited almost 35 mins for west lake minced soup the other night! I love the chicken fried rice ($6) It's flavorful and gives you lots of chicken pieces!! Most restaurants' fried rice are white or yellow, the fried rice here is a beautiful brown color! You can definitely taste the flavor in each bite! I also tried the hot and sour soup ($6) which was DELICIOUSSSS!!! It wasn't too sour or watery like most places! Everything is super fresh and a good price!! We ordered fried prawns, Mongolian beef, Orange chicken, and chicken fried rice plus 3 sodas and our bill was under $30.
