I decided to try this place on a whim. I read the Yelp reviews and was a bit weary, but decided to give this place a chance. Well... the yelp reviews were pretty spot on. As much as I enjoyed the food, which was really great in portion size and in taste. I could not get the picture of how unclean and disorderly the restaurant appeared. I don't mean paper stacked everywhere either, but discernible dust clouds on top of everything and dishes stacked near the register. It was a pig sty to say the least. The food speaks for itself as many previous reviewers have already commented. Its too bad, the taste is actually good, but I can't frequent a place when cleanliness appears to be an issue. The food is excellent, just don't expect bells or whistles. For better or worst it's family run. The cashier answering the phone is not all that pleasant. She's very short with people, probably a result of their being usually busy. They often yell at each other about this or that, it's kind of hilarious. The lobby is not very clean and the restaurant is noisy.... so take out is best. Food also takes a while so order at least 30 minutes in advance. It's awesome watching the cook man the woks and fryers. He's a one man orchestra, cooking so many dishes at once with pinpoint accuracy. It dawns on me out of four reviews, of course the rating is going to be a four. And of course from such rating my boyfriend suggested we try this place out. I have been to my share of Chinese food places and have I had authentic? Probably not, but I have had some dishes that made me guilty with sodium and carb intake that I am still shedding. Although the prices were definitely cheap my thoughts were elsewhere. Here is when I realized why there are less reviewers and higher rating: - This small restaurant is located in a practically deserted plaza and situated in the backyard shopping of the Pittsburg cuts. - The restaurant is not clean, but neither extremely dirty where you want to walk out. There were newspaper advertisements scattered near the front. - The owner's kids were running around the kitchen and eating area -- HELLO! OSHA violation here!!!! And VERY unsanitary. - The owner/cashier (maybe) just didn't seem to give a s--t. As for the food, we ordered a share of: Mandarin Chicken rice plate - Tasted dry, but I ate it anyway because the rice covered up the bland taste. BBQ Pork Chow Mein - I swear I had immediate heartburn and my thighs growing when I ate this. Hot & Sour Soup - Day old soup that was more hot with sour coming up at the very end, when the liquid hits your stomach. The food is very good, but so slow! I call in my order to go and they always say it will be ready in 20 minutes, but every time I show up 20 minutes later it's never ready. Expect at least a 30 minute wait total when calling in. I think they wait for you to show up to cook the food, even though you call ahead. With that said, the food is always good. My husband and i usually have a different chinese food place we like to order take out from but one particular day it was closed and i was CRAVING my usual scrambled egg and shrimp chow fun! I found this place on google and relized they're right down the street from where i live so i gave them a call. I asked the guy on the phone if they have egg and shrimp chow fun and he said "no, but we can make it for you"! The price ended up being better than our usual place and it tasted better too! From outside and walking in you might think this place is not it, but it is!! It's the bee's knee's, the cat's meow and my new favorite Chinese restaurant!! Jade house gets an extra star because I came in about 20 minutes before they were about to close and the food was still made fresh. I'm extra particular about fried rice and Jade House has good fried rice the only thing I would suggest is adding the vegetables in. The fried ribs on the appetizer menu are hella good and not to spicy. The egg rolls were ok. read more

Called in the order, 20min wait time. 15min drive to get there. We then waited 45mins inside! Got home to find the bottom of the bag full of sauce from one of the boxes. Mess everywhere! All the food items were overloaded with sauce. Flavors were overall good. Mandarin chicken was a bit bland. Really loved the BBQ pork egg foo young! Good quantities of food. I'm Chinese so when i say it's great Chinese food, it's gonna be GREAT food. Food is Deeelicious and the family that owns it is incredibly nice. The kids and the toys make it more homely and make it really apparent that it's a family owned restaurants and i always have a soft spot in my heart for people that are family oriented. They give you huge portions which is good for a guy like me that likes to eat then leave some left overs for later. That's the beauty of chinese food, you can reheat and it's all good. Kind of like Pizza or Italian. Must be the carbos? But i recommend this place to everyone and anyone that wants good chinese food in that area. I usually order my good on the phone and come by and pick it up. Reason being, their place is a bit small. And I usually enjoy the comfort of eating in my own home. Their food is really good, surpassing my expectations set by the overall look of the restaurant. It's a nice family owned restaurant. Good prices, and it sometimes may take a bit to get your food but it will be worth it. They never mess up your order and are usually generous with portion size. I highly suggest coming here! read more

I know the woman and her parents who own this spot. Very friendly people. The woman who takes your orders I know her personally and the sweetest person you want to know. I have ate here for a minute now and love it. You can not find any other chinese food spot who sales rice plates and if they do it's only between a certain time. They do this all day long. I don't think the cashier is rude at all. never recieved bad customer service at all. Great people and great food, will continue to eat there. I would come here a lot when i first came to Pittsburg, but over time I found other spots i enjoyed more. It's good food and I should go back and see how they are doing. The food is good, quick and cheap. I really liked their Singapore noodles with the curry. They place is family owned and when i would go the owner's kids (or grandkids?) were always playing inside the restaurant. They are always very accommodating with substitutions as well, or the addition of extra veggies into dishes that didnt include them already. If I lived in Pittsburg this would be my go to spot for take out soup, the hot and sour soup was awesome! read more

When I first started going to this place, I fell in love with the chicken fried rice. My first order was takeout, and when I called the lady on the phone sounded pretty dry, but when I got there she was actually really nice. The last couple times I have gone there though, the rice has not been all that great. I think it is a matter of timing. Its best to go early in the day or early afternoon so that you can get a fresh batch of rice as they tend to cook their rice in a large batch and then fry that. (I'm assuming here...) but it was really dry and a little crunchy. Aside from that, the fried prawns are VERY tasty. OMG, I just love them. They are nice and plump and flavorful. It is a family owned establishment and I see a lot of families coming in to eat and the portions always look like they are sufficient. I took off a star because of my last two experiences with the rice, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt because I like this place. Hopefully they are on point next time. My aunt referred me to this place while I was looking for something quick and cheap to eat. My food was ready in a timely manner after waiting in line, but then I had to wait another 15 or so minutes for pot sticker sauce. The pot stickers were fine. Not the best place for a sit down meal but affordable and tasty place for take out. They get A LOT of take out orders so I would always call in at least 20 minutes before you want your food. Is it me or does the chick at the counter have a funky attitude? Nevertheless this place it pretty good dispite the lack of customer service and being a hole in the wall. The shrimp fried rice is pretty good and I love the fried ribs. If your going for the fried ribs they are best before 3pm. Towards the end of the day you tend to get a box of fried bones. Besides the creepy gold fish tank one thing that did concern me was the preparation on won tons on a bare table where 5 mintues prior a nice group of people were enjoying a meal. I witnessed them leave but I never saw the emplyoee wipe down the surface prior to rolling the won tons on the surface. Maybe it gives the food extra flavor .... Anywho I don't think I'll be trying the won tons anytime soon. At the end of the day the spot is mediocre . read more

I was recommended this place about 4 years ago.. In my mind.. nothing will be as good as the chinese food in San Francisco.. NOTHING.. but holy crap! Jade House is perfect. We try to order food from Jade House at least once a month. Jade House has yet to disappoint. I always make a big pot of rice at home.. then call up Jade House and talk to the surley counter girl.. Yes.. she is not the nicest.. but who cares. girl can cook! So I always order the mixed chow mein, salt and pepper pork chops, mongolian beef, walnut shrimp, and sometimes the mixed veggies and sometimes the cashew nut chicken all for about 35 bucks. The portions are hugh. The flavors are amazing. By the time I bring the food home, the rice is ready and we are soo grubbing. There is also enough food for breakfast... I mean if your into eating chow mein at 8am... Im not... well yes I am.. and even leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day. I love Jade House.. Anybody who complains about service and ambiance is coming in with irrational expectations and quite frankly doesn't understand what this place is really about: The Food and nothing else. Fried rice. Awesome! I can't say enough about how great the food is here! This place is a hidden gem! If you're a food connoisseur which I believe I am, then you would love it at Jade House! I wish they would build one out in San Jose, because it would make it easier for me to get to. I use to eat lunch nearly every day here but since I moved I can only make it about twice a month (but well worth the hour drive). Family owned and operated so you can expect to see the same familiar faces every time. A suggestion that I can make though, would be to order ahead of time, the wait is insane, if your ordering when you get there as apposed to pre ordering, your expected wait time is about 1-2 hrs (but that's because they cook to order). The place looks very old but they keep it clean for the most part. The cooking area is open for you to see, so when the flames go up its cool to watch. The atmosphere however can tend to be a bit chaotic, with children running around, and the sounds of the woks banging against the burners, it's definitely not an ambiance you would for a date. This is my go to, top fav Chinese pick up spot! They're always so pleasant and cool up your food once you place your order. It's nothing like China Wall, where they have the food sit. This restaurant makes the food fresh and hot for pick up!
