Honestly, it's been years (I think the last time we ordered eggrolls was in December of 2016) since I've been here, but the last time I was, the fish tank was gross, the tables were sticky and the chairs were falling apart. We finally ventured out to Humble again yesterday. Our son deserved a special treat for his recent good grades, he asked to go out for chinese food. (what a surprise o.O) =D Given our recent experience at a supposedly great chinese restaurant, we decided to go to our familiar and safe eatery. Sadly, I was dissapinted. On this occasion we ordered a la carte instead of a family meal or combo meal. There were seven of us and we got seated way in the back. (Maybe they weren't happy that we had 5 kids with us.) Anyway, the kids ordered combos which come with an egg roll. I ordered kung pao chicken and hubby ordered mood goo gai pan. A la carte items come with steamed rice. Combos come with fried rice and an egg roll. Drinks are now a can of soda and a tall glass of ice. (Maybe things have changed with our current economy.) I told someone that I'd hate to eat my words and that's exactly what I'm doing. The egg rolls were smaller this time. And the filing was different. They were also softer and chewy, borderline doughwy. And color me crazy but doesn't kung pao chicken have peanuts? This one didn't. The fried rice was tasty, it had enough soy sauce, egg and some veggies and it wasn't dry. Other than that, everyone else liked their food. Our server was hovering over us, it was kind of creepy. After a while of taking a few trips around our table he finally tried to make small talk. He asked if all the kids were mine. I said oh heavens NO. Two were friends of our kids that tagged along. He laughed and kept talking. When it was time for the bill, our server pointed out that gratuity was not included; they used to include it for parties over six at 15%, but now they don't. They used to have the best food around and definitely the best egg rolls. Many places are now making only the spring rolls. However, they really need to update and clean or close the doors. Food splashed all over the walls, silverware were dirty, napkins were used. We just can't take the Chance on getting sick from the food. Been eating here since day one. Don't go as often because a lot of my favorite dishes are off the menu now. Pressed duck was one of my favorites in the day, liked it much more than the chicken. But the chicken is still a go to dish. Love that gravy. The won ton soup is best in Houston, but I miss the Boc Chow they use to put in it. They use to use lots of vegetables in their fried rice which is still really good but the addition of the vegetables made a gastronomic delight. But the thing I miss most is the butterfly shrimp. I've been going to Jade Palace for years and recently it was my choice of places to go for my birthday. Our favorite is the dinner for two. I ordered it with my family and you get several courses (ribs, wonton soup, sweet and sour pork, chicken chow mein, chicken fried rice) all for a reasonable price. The service is very good and everyone is very nice there. My girlfriend is a vegetarian and the owner came out and made sure what he was fixing would be ok with her. The wonton soup is excellent. Eggs rolls are very large. BBQ ribs are very good. I also recommend the General Tso's chicken. The place is clean... don't believe reviews saying this place is dirty. read more

Haven't been here in a long time. Now I remember why. We ordered Mongolian Beef and General Tso's Chicken both were suppose to come spicy. It was not spicy at all. The beef has a good smokey flavor but was over powered by the saltiness. The chicken didn't have the normal heavy breaking which was ok but it was swimming is sauce. It was like drinking the sauce with a little bit of chicken. The place is very old and could use an update. While waiting on our food I notice the host knew almost everyone that walked in except me. I use to love this place! Today we did not feel welcome there. The waitress was extremely rude!!! We got egg rolls that were icebox cold in the middle! The food portions are more money but half of what you use to get. I was looking forward to it but was so very disappointed!!! I saw all the raving reviews about this place so I figured the food was going to be amazing, but I was unpleasantly surprised. I ordered the chicken with broccoli lunch special that came with rice, wonton soup, and an egg roll. The wonton soup was pretty bland and didn't taste like anything at all. The plate itself came with about 5 tiny slivers of chicken and it was doused in what looked and tasted exactly like McCormick brown gravy out of the pouch which was kind of off putting. The only good thing about the meal was pretty much the egg roll. Visited on 1-3-13. Ordered General Tso's chicken. At least 30% was burnt. I asked for a substitution of won ton soup instead of egg drop soup. The waitress's reply was an extremely curt "NO!". I do admit that it says no substitutions on the menu, but teach your staff to be more polite about it. Started coming here when I was 18 and now I am in my fifties. I actually use to drive from Austin area down here to take friends out to eat. I eat all over the United States and I rate this as the number one Chinese resturaunt in the United States... Their appetizers are so awesome. Best wonton soup I have ever eaten, egg rolls are to die for, ribs are off the chart good and that is even before getting started on the main courses which are awesome too. My top fav entrees are Pressed Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork or Chicken along with their dinner fried rice, which is also equisite. Steak Kew is awesome, Beff and Brocoli is awesome, any of the seafood entrees are unbelievably good. When you order the family dinners, you will get enough to eat on several days more. I hope they never change the way that they make anything because for me it has been good since I started coming here as a teenager and it is still good today and that says a lot for any resturaunt. My waiter I started with "Tom" even finally retired and that was a sad day for us all because when we walked in he knew what we wnated for drinks and appetizers before we even got seated and he seemed to always pick out the best of everything for us. We do habve a new waitress we call Lulu who is filling his shoes quite well now. All of my kids and family has grown up eating here and now they take their friends and own kids to eat here as well. My family and I have been coming here for about 20+ years. There food is delicious. My kids love there won ton soup and myself. The wait staff has not changed they have seen us grow up and now they are seeing our kids grow up. It's not a fancy place. It's a little $$$ but it's worth it. The egg rolls are huge and delicious. We have been coming here since they opened in the late 70s. The wonton soup is good. The egg rolls you order are very good with pork and pieces of shrimp. I have never had the small egg rolls that come with the lunch special. The BBQ pork slices are amazing! They are NOT HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE! It makes me mad that when my dad, who loves this place, is with us we can't come here since his stroke. My favorite things on the menu...EGG ROLLS (I believe they have 2 different kinds now...Ask for the "Original style") with sweet & sour sauce that you mix to your level of spiciness, Won Ton soup, and House Special Chow Mein -- pan fried noodles (yum) with chicken, shrimp, pork, veggies and sauce. The décor is a little tired, but it is homey to me. I now live outside of the US so I miss being able to get my Chinese "fix" whenever I want. Today I decided to give up on this place. There are several problems. We arrived a little after 2 pm. A woman was vacuuming the dining room. After ordering from the petite waitress (whom I adore) my husband asked a different waitress who brought our egg rolls if the one vacuuming would be done soon. She replied "she vacuum because no customers, she's almost finished". I guess we weren't considered customers. The vacuuming continued during the bulk of our time there. The fried rice has become dry and has a bit of an after taste. The outside of the egg rolls were like concrete. I really wish management would pull their head out of the sand and realize they need to modernize. I remember when you had to wait to get a table. Well you don't have to worry about that any more. This is the great Chinese place in the town where I grew up. My family and I have eaten here for more than 25 years. It's not the most authentic but they make some really delicious food. Two things they do better than most places - though - are their egg rolls and their Won Ton soup. The Won Ton soup has the perfect level of flavor too the broth. Most places make it too overpowering or have too much salt. This broth is just right. The egg rolls will probably be much larger than you are used to - stuffed with shredded pork, shrimp, cabbage, and bean sprouts (and whatever wonderfulness they put in them). They have an excellent sweet and sour sauce at the table to go with them. For the longest time - we have ordered the dinner for 3. This meal has Won Ton Soup, a nice sized Egg roll for each person, BBQ pork ribs, fried rice, sweet and sour pork and Moo Goo Gai Pan (a chicken dish in a clear sauce with snow peas and mushrooms). It's definitely enough for more than 3 people - which means I get to bring leftovers home to Austin. It's a win-win situation. read more
