I don't usually write Yelp reviews, and I am hesitant to post this one because I know Yelp users…read moreare looking for an honest, unbiased review.  While this review is honest, it is not unbiased, - because this is the story of a teenaged boy (my son) and his Grandfather (Dr. Steven McHale DMD).  For my son, childhood has had its share of tumbles and spills; but when he fell forward, contacting with the back of a metal chair, he broke 3 of his front teeth.  He came to me immediately, his mouth open, his tongue still cradling the broken shards, and a look of holy terror in his eyes.  What can I say? I was every bit as shattered as those 3 permanent, front row teeth! My just heart fell.  I know how to comfort and patch most childhood injuries - but these precious little teeth couldn't be set with a cast like a broken bone, and they would not grow back or mend like a skinned knee, I was feeling utterly lost and helpless.   Thank heavens for Grandpa McHale!  He brought both me and my son through this trauma like an angel.  By bonding a composite resin to the missing portions of the teeth, he was able to put back what the tragic fall had taken.  He color matched, shaped and smoothed the resin so beautifully.  He was gentle, constantly talking to and reassuring my son.  And while this is his Grandson, I know Dr. McHale well enough to say that the treatment would be the same with any child in his chair.   Before bed that night, I found my son, toothbrush in hand, in front of the big bathroom mirror, just running his tongue back and forth over his front teeth.  He caught me looking and shyly exclaimed, "they just look so real".  We can't say thank you enough, Grandpa - Dr. McHale, for giving us back a real smile.

The 1 star review is for the new dentist and staff, they inherited a thriving business, and because of their unethical tactics ran it into the ground. Laura the receptionist, tells you what the doctor said, concerning the supposed dental work you need. There is a large turnover in personnel, even with the dentists. There is no continuity at this office. I was told by Laura that "I needed $20,000 dollars in dental work" (i see a dentist regularly twice a year). They wanted to extract 3 crowned teeth that had no signs of stress, and there was no pain or discomfort. They wanted to replace these teeth with implants. I found a new dentist, and after a complete oral exam was told "I needed a deep cleaning". The complete X rays of my mouth showed NO problems with the teeth in question. I would highly recommend staying away from this office, they obviously have a personnel problem and a cash flow problem.

The problem was never that we refused to contact insurance ourselves. The issue was the office's unwillingness to help clarify obvious discrepancies or assist in resolving confusing charges related to treatments THEY recommended. When I visited the office, I asked reasonable questions about inconsistent insurance payments, unclear billing, and financial charges added during the insurance processing period. For example, insurance paid very different amounts for exactly the same treatment. The office simply printed out the insurance payment details and even agreed that it "didn't make much sense." However, when I asked if they could help double-check with insurance, I was repeatedly told that it was "my responsibility" to deal with insurance. Simply telling patients to call their insurance company is not the same as providing good customer service or billing transparency. What made the experience especially frustrating was the dismissive attitude throughout the conversation. In particular, when I pointed out that financial charges were being added before insurance had even completed processing the claims, I explained that the insurance payment timeline is between the office and the insurance company, and patients should only be responsible for the unpaid portion after insurance processing -- not finance charges on the full amount during that process. The response I received was essentially: "Well, it's your insurance. They paid us late, so you are responsible." I have honestly never experienced this type of billing practice anywhere else. Overall, this office felt far more focused on collecting money than caring for patients. This was reflected in the unclear, non-itemized invoices we received. If I had not gone into the office personally and asked for printed details, I would never have understood how these so-called "financial charges" were being calculated. Please carefully review your invoices if you visit this office. I truly hope this feedback encourages them to improve their billing transparency and customer service.
