Life has rules, especially during a pandemic. Rule 1: masks, ethanol every surface constantly and following everything to a T, so that this virologist isn't getting the heebies while getting her hair cut: check. Rule 2: come into salon with a ridiculous picture of a singer that won't be named bc you're kind of embarrassed she's currently your pop spirit guide, and walk out with a haircut that actually looks better than hers: check. I am obsessed with my bangs. I am so glad I didn't listen to my jack*ss friends (love you, but guys c'mon, also stop reading my yelp reviews they are privatepublic) who said: sure, attempt this at home. I am feeling these 1970's retro vibes in every strand, every layer of bang. Did I mention it didn't cost an arm and a leg like most places in the UES? I almost don't want people to know about this place because I want more of it to myself, but what can I say, I'm a goddamn Samaritan. I've been coming here for a couple years, but this time she really outdid herself. If you want to take a bit of a leap and try something you haven't before, this is the place. Made an appt. with Angela who was very good. Called ahead on Saturday to confirm appt. for later in aft., was told She didn't work there anymore. She left 2 weeks prior But the idiot who answered the phone,neglected to inform me, although he had my appt. down. Who was I supposed to see?? Needed Angela for a special event, now I'm out of luck. One of the worst experiences walking in. The receptionist talked to me at the same time she was talking to the customer in front of me, then she told me there was a wait so I asked if I can just come back and she was adamant that I stayed put on the couch, she couldn't help me with a haircut by just a description (i.e. short layers) she said she absolutely needed a picture, and finally upon walking out she said I was missing out on "the best hircut of my life." Amaizing experience, was walking and stopped by chance the owner was very nice to accept me without appointment, although she works only with appointments. Once i was in i did root coloring and blow dry my hair.. it really needed alot of treatment, she was very very professional, honest real person not snobby or trying to show off, she was working from all of her heart, was very nice to me and my two young kids with the long hours the results were amazing, definitely coming back as a permanent client, the prices are reasonable. I was able to make a same day appointment with Fior who did a great job fixing the layers in my hair. The salon is very warm and inviting. The price tag was a bit of a surprise even with my long hair: $65 plus tax and tip for wash/cut/blowdry -- vs the $35+ quoted over the phone and $25+ summer special on the website. If I could give less than one star, I absolutely would It was a total waste of my time. I live mid-town and was hoping this could be a place to get a wash and blow without having to travel all the way uptown or to Brooklyn. The salons in my area are very pricey. I ultimately spent 30 min in the shop because the owner continued to tell me she would get to me in 10 minutes. All I wanted to know was what her price was for the services I wanted to get. After seating me in the chair, instead of talking to me, she begins to talk in Spanish about me to her other customers. Telling them how I must be patient while they begin to laugh. I got up and left. I'm glad I didn't give her one cent. What type of person likes to humiliate their potential customers? Or anyone for that matter. read more

This place is nice and the owner is accommodating, yet the prices online do not match with what they charge in the end. I booked an appointment for a long hair blow dry advertised $30 on their website and at the end I was told that it's actually $50-60. The only reason why I came there is because Mount Sinai recommended this place and the reviews were great, but it's very unprofessional to advertise a price online and then charge something else. The lady, who was blow drying my hair kept making faces like she is tired, because I have lots of hair and someone else took over the blow dry at the end. Not sure if I'll come back. I can go to Scott J Aveda, a prestigious salon for $50 to have my hair blow dried and I wouldn't see any faces as if I'm inconveniencing them with my long and thick hair. read more

I first came to the Jaico Hair Salon about two months ago because I wanted to dye my naturally dark, long hair into a light, golden brown. I immediately felt very welcomed inside the cozy, beautiful salon. The staff was incredibly nice, attentive, and friendly. Ms. Fior (the head hair stylist) was very receptive and helpful when I explained my vision for my hair. Ms. Fior suggested I try a variation on the color I wanted and although I was a bit unsure at first, I decided to trust Ms. Fior's knowledge and expertise. I was soooo pleasantly surprised with my final result, it was better than what I imagined! When I arrived at work the next day, I got so many compliments from my supervisor and coworkers. Friends are constantly complimenting the great color, even months later! Ms. Fior has the amazing ability to listen to your idea and make it better. My first experience with Ms. Fior was in 2010 when she graciously agreed to do a last minute dye job for my NYU graduation ceremony. At that time I wanted to dye my long, dark hair into a deep red. Ms. Fior suggested I pair up the red dye with a sexy, short bob cut. I was unsure at first, but I took a leap of faith and did it anyways. At graduation I got so many compliments for the hair color and the haircut! It was so edgy and totally different from my vision, but it fit me perfectly. I even got compliments from my friend's mother, who is also a hairstylist. Walked in on a Saturday to get a trim -- Fior, the owner/stylist, was incredibly friendly and gave me a great cut. She was so friendly and clearly knows all her customers as she greeted the others by name as they walked in. Fior gave me styling and nutrition tips as I've been worried about my hair thinning due to stress recently. I was trying to save money so didn't get the blowdry, just the $27 cut, but Fior gave me a quick dry anyway so I didn't walk out with my hair soaking wet. Great customer service, great price! Just stopped in one morning, on a business trip from Los Angeles. They've just opened, so there's still a bit of touch-ups going on, but the warmth of Fior and her daughter Sylvia, more than made up for it all. This is a family run place, and I really like that. I have thick long red hair, which most people have trouble with. Barbers cut it too short and hairstylists tend to make it too feminine. Fior gave me a great cut. I'm so pleased with it, I don't think I'll be getting my hair cut in LA anymore. Going to do it only in New York on my frequent trips. read more

I put my heart & soul into helping Fior build this business sometimes working 12 hours a day 6 days a week! When Fior became Ill I stepped up to run the salon for her, opening and closing, taking care of her clients & mine, treating the salon as if it were my own! I am so happy I found this place after searching and trying different cuts all over manhattan. I asked Flor for a cut and a blow dry and I loved both. I had spoken with the owner of Salon Saturday night , inquiring about their services. She asked me about my hair and that it would be 55 to 59 dollars. I told her that I work at Mount SInai and we have a discount. She said yes, it will be less. I did go tuesday after work. The owner was not there and they were only taking cash. The hairdresser there told me , 55 or 59 dollars. I let her know about the discount. She said she will call the owner as I went to an ATM to get cash. So, I got washed, cut and blow and I still got charged 59.00. I asked about the discount and she said that was included in the price. I paid and gave her a good tip, because she did a great job. I called the owner just now to let her know how I felt about being charged 59.00. She kept saying it depends on the length of my hair. it could be 45 dollars and up for the cut. I understand that. My hair is just over my shoulders , by my armpits....and all I needed was for them to take off about two inches. My hair is very fin and thin, not thick at all. I was in and out within 35 minutes with wash, cut and blow. The owner said that i can come by and she will look at my hair and decide then.No, We had discussed my hair on the phone call... she said 55- 59, without discount, and the lady who did my hair said the same price, 55-59. Okay.. lets say we go by the higher amount .59.00..........where is my discount? I was referred there by a coworker and she even felt that I was overcharged. My first and last time there.
