I would have given 5 stars, but I think that their breakfast's are slightly overpriced. Besides that, the food was great. My step-dad had their eggs benedict and he was pleasantly surprised because he usually doesn't like eggs benedict. The coffee wasn't as good as we had hoped, but the wholegrain pancakes and soul style bacon was to die for! In addition, the service was awesome. The food was good, but the service was lousy. Our server was rude. She was bothered that we weren't ready to order when she came to our table. She made disparaging comments about our kids who were seated at another table, and then she got our order wrong. They cleared our table before asking if we were done and took my son's jacket to the lost and found even though it we were two tables of four, and were still there. I can appreciate that they have people waiting, but we waited too and I didn't like being hustled out of there. read more

Great food! When they say they make the best eggs benedict, they aren't exaggerating. Wonderful, attentive service, and each table had free Tazo tea :)! Do be aware that this place is very popular and if you go on the weekend, there is likely to be a very long wait. My husband and I waited about 30 minutes, but it was well worth it. Our first morning we were in a rush to get to our destination and to our pleasure we sat down, ordered, and were served our food in 8 minutes. We were visiting from California this weekend and saw great reviews about this place. The food is great but the vibes are the worst I have ever experienced. I am not sure if it is be because we are from California or because we are Hispanic, but people in the place are extremely unwelcoming and it feels like this behavior is racially rooted. Our waitress who was an older lady with a raspy voice made a point to be extremely nice to other people and even messed up our order on purpose to serve us a chorizo plate for breakfast rather than the house breakfast plate we asked for. She was being dismissive and highly unprofessional, she seemed to be bothered to serve a Hispanic family. I am a proud American with conservative views, a proud military wife, and educated professional. We came to this beautiful place to have and have a good time and escape the lockdowns, but this place ruined my experience. I hope the behavior of this sorry individual and establishment and does not represent this town or state. I hope her day goes better after serving a Hispanic family. If you are of a different ethnic background and find yourself in this place be observant and cautious. read more

This very pretty, popular place gets very, very crowded on weekend mornings, especially if there's a rally or other off-road event. They promise a 15 minute wait, but ours was 45. Then we got to sit at a table for 15 minutes before even placing an order. The prices were pretty high, and they're a little stingy with the coffee. But the worst feature was the really surly service. You could see surprise at the other tables too, as plates were just put down as the waitress walked away, plates were cleared as soon as the forks were put down, never a hint of a smile. But the food was good, and sufficient. The Swedish Pancakes were delicious, but the lingonberry compote that was hyped as an accompaniment was about two tablespoons of loose jam. The bacon was great. My husband and I went to this place after a couple of days in Moab. We wanted to avoid lines on the other days, and avoided this place. After 2 days of terrible food and bad service, we thought that maybe their was a reason why they had a line and no one else did, and boy were we right! Yes, the line is long and it's not ideal when you are hungry and caffeine deprived, however once you get seated, you get a great cup of coffee and FAST! You also receive your food quickly and it is very tasty! Super service too. It is a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for. We came here for breakfast right before the July 4th weekend. We wanted a place that had good breakfast and was local (they have a Dennys but come up we wanted real local favor), The place is actually a converted jailhouse from many years ago. Not sure how the food is. Walked in with a party of 7. Hostess said it's going to be AT LEAST 20 minutes. I then asked if we could split up the group and she said "yeah, still going to be 20 minutes" in a nasty tone. I said "okay that's fine" and proceeded to tell the others in my group that myself and my son were going to walk down the street to a shop for a few minutes. She then interjected and said "I'm not going to seat you until your whole party is here", to which I said I thought it'd be at least 20 minutes? She replied and said it could be much sooner. On top of being extremely rude, she clearly doesn't grasp the definition of customer service. We ended up leaving along with a couple of other parties did the same. I'll say first off that our waitress was lovely and the food was just fine - good hearty waffle, OK coffee. It's the hostess that dooms this place. In a town where literally every other person we met on our weeklong visit was friendly, this woman sticks out like a sore thumb. She seemed annoyed that we were there, annoyed that we didn't want to sit outside in the chilly weather - and told us there were only seats available right away outside, even though we could clearly see THREE empty tables inside. Made us wait for a bit while we looked through the window at said empty tables. This just started the meal off on a bad note, and I see I'm not the only person to point this out in a review. Maybe it's time to reassign this woman to some other position there that doesn't involve interacting with the public, because it's clearly not her strong suit. read more

Their pancakes were horrible and I couldn't cut them with a butter knife. They looked like the were going to be delicious so I was very disappointed. They had to be ripped apart & then they tasted like they were made in burnt grease. The nice waitress said you didn't eat much. Solid breakfast place. Very popular. Small wait at 10:30 on a Sunday morning-so not bad. We had an omelette, bacon, and whole wheat waffle. The worst service ever!!!! Just because it is called the jailhouse café doesn't mean that the manager and workers have to treat you like a inmate. I work hard for my money and am bringing them revenue and to be disrespected with cold service and bad attitudes is just the beginning. The food I ordered had half of a bugs body in it and when I complained she didn't apologize. When I was leaving to pay I notice that the cooks were not wearing hair or did not have their hair pulled back and were not preparing food with gloves. Had the worst service ever this morning at jailhouse cafe. Stephanie waited on us and was extremely rude! Her attitude got worse as we asked for refills on coffee, water or juice. At one point she even poured coffee into a tea cup and shrugged saying it's just a few drops. We had to ask her for a new cup for tea since she wasn't going to get one on her own. Her attitude got worse after the manager spoke to her. read more

After scanning the Bowen motel's breakfast offerings I decided that I couldn't stomach another morning of white toast. Jailhouse cafe is on the same block and was a perfect stand in. Saturdays always mean super waits at brunch places but Jailhouse knows how to cheer up those willing to wait- they hand you a coffee menu when you're waiting and people come by and get your drink started! We only waited 10 minutes and I had my cubano coffee in my hand when we were brought to our table. We ordered the ginger pancakes and they were fluffy-licious. Apple butter was nice but there wasn't enough for 3 pancakes. The soul food bacon was perfection- thick, crisp with just the right amount of carcinogen! I agree with other reviewers that this place is pricey. If I plan to pay $11 for pancakes it should come with a bucket of apple butter and real maple syrup- no log cabin goo! This is not a place to park yourself- the guy at the table next to us with his laptop got reminded by the server that there was a 45 minute wait for people outside as a not-so-gentle hint to get moving.
