I literally sat down for two seconds before my stylist Summer came to get me. Having transitioned over a year ago, I had no clue what products to use To properly care for my hair. Summer is very knowledgeable, down to earth, and sweet. Taught me all the Do's, and Dont's for caring for my hair type. After she was done with me, I felt like a new person. My hair felt light, and bouncy. Although I was there a little longer than anticipated, Im very satisfied with the service. Queens is a loooong drive for me, but definitely worth it. if I could give zero stars I would... Black owned business gone wrong. Went here at and paid a deposit of $25 to secure my appointment. How can you charge me a deposit and expect me to be on time when you don't attempt to even start my hair until 4 hours later? This shop is unprofessional when it comes to time management. It is completely disrespectful to have a client come in and not even have the hair stylist greet you and inform you that she's behind on time or even apologize for having a person waste their whole day sitting in the shop with wet hair. The stylist that I booked had another woman wash my hair to (speed up time) and then had me sit with wet hair for 3.5 hours.. and kept assuring me that the stylist was "almost done". Then when I got up, the story was "how long do you think you can stay? She's over booked"... if she was overbooked she should've informed me before I got there instead of having me drive from Long Island all the way to Astoria Queens and having to leave with soaking wet hair. I left the shop at 7pm. Mind you, The stylist was still not done with her other client.. 4 whole hours to waste for a silk press.... Never again. And throughout the whole process the stylist did not say one word to me I spoke with the receptionist the whole time.. how unprofessional. Do not go to this salon if you have natural hair! Went here for the first time for a wash and trim in July. Stylist (whose name i can't remember) came in quite awhile after my scheduled appointment time. After washing my hair stylist proceeded i blow dry my hair straight in order to cut it. Why? If i wear my hair curly, it should be cut curly, not straight. I was then charged for a blow out that i never asked for, almost doubling my quoted price. Fine ok, you love and learn. I recently went back again this past Saturday, and somehow this experience was even worse. Was seen 40 minutes after my appointment. Told the stylist i wanted a wash and go and a trim. Yet again without asking she blew my hair out. She also proceeded to comb and dry my natural hair with no product in it.. i could feel and hear my hair breaking. As she was cutting it, she was running a comb through my hair while dry and no product in it. She then got upset when i told her that i didn't want her to flat iron my hair (because you know, that's not what i asked for when i came in). Since there was nothing i could do about the fact that she blew it out, i asked if she could perhaps wrap my hair, as a) i didn't want to be yet again charged for a blow out that i never wanted, and b) i had no desire to have straight hair, and wanted to just tuck my hair in my hat until i could go home and rewash it for it to be curly again. She informed me that it would take a lot of pins to do that, to which i responded that was ok. Apparently that was the wrong answer because her attitude was even worse after that. Needless to say after two tries I'm done with this place. Horrible service. This place has changed for the worse. Their whole staff has changed over in a matter of months to amateurs doing professional stylists work when they should all be assistants, which is a bad sign to begin with. My fault! They don't care about your hair health, your time, or about you being happy and satisfied with your experience at the salon. The owner is dismissive when you do communicate your concers and the staff just wants your money. No hair consult with recommendations for better outcomes. Not one smile or a welcoming hello. The only nice person was the shampoo guy. Sad!! Their website states a silk press starts at $45 dollars. They charged me $67! It literally lasted 4 hours! And I have very short hair. Why charge me that much more? Or even do the service?! I loved how honest the stylist was ... she didn't advice I go blond at he moment due to the current condition my hair was in and it would be best to let my current color grow out to prevent breakage . So I have been on a hunt for an amazing black stylist since I relocated and I stumbled upon Jakari Salon through a web search and yelp review. The reviews were good, the pictures looked nice and the instagram photos persuaded me to make an appointment. I made an appointment for a Saturday morning but had a busy Friday so I was about 10 minutes late. I called ahead and it was not a major issue. Parking was easy to find. The salon is kind of small but the atmosphere is nice. All the stylist were pleasant and respectful. It appeared as if there was no one waiting for long periods of time which is always a plus! I came in for a deep condition and a roller set. Because this was my first time at the salon I did not have a specific stylist. Since GIGI had availability for the time I wanted I made my appointment with her. My hair was nice. Gigi was pleasant and did not take a long time. I give the experience 3 stars instead of more because when I leave a salon I really expect that WOW factor and although my hair was nice. It did not really exceed my expectations. I would visit the salon again and I would even recommend it but I will just continue my salon search because I need the WOW factor. I struggled for months to give this review. I never want to give businesses bad reviews, especially black owned businesses, but my experience was pretty terrible. I went to the Jakari J Salon to have my hair done by Roxi. I have been waiting for Roxi for months to do my hair, and when she came back from maternity leave, I was soooooo excited. Roxi is a bomb ass hair stylist so I could not wait for her to do my hair. I get there for my appointment at 3pm sharp. the front desk lady tells me to sit and Roxi will be with me in a minute. The minute turned into 2 hours of me waiting for her. Finally when she calls me over, I tell her what I wanted to do, and she says that she is unable to do it because its too late. (who's fault was that????) This was 2 days before mothers day. I thought I was gonna have a whole make over because I never do anything for myself, but nope. She could not even do my hair. I live in Harlem, this salon was in the middle of nowhere in Queens. It was a huge waste of my time and a complete let down. Customer service sucks. I have gone to this salon a few times and always had great results. I always get a silk press because I have been transitioning from perms to natural. I hadn't had a perm in over 3 years. I normally go to Shanel who the owner and is great! Unfortunately the day I called to make another appointment Shanel had taken some days off and she would not be in. The person that answered the phone offered for me to go to her instead. I was really skeptical if I should go with her or just wait for Shanel to come back. Against my better judgment I went with her who is Shanel's assistant. My hair looked nice and I was happy. However, two weeks later I washed my hair myself and noticed that my hair was basically straight with some new growth. Some parts looked like my natural hair texture but other parts were STRAIGHT. I couldn't understand it. So I washed it again and it was still straight!! I don't know what type of products she used or if she mixed perm but I will never go back there again. read more

The hairstylist seem like they're doing a good job but never go to the nail tech Stylznails. I made a 3:00 appt for a filling got there early still had to sit and wait until 3:40 so I was pist not to mention I had to leave a $25 dollar deposit on the phone so I couldnt leave. The tech has the longest nails like Edwardscissor hands so I was nervous about getting a good job. She said I needed 2 nails removed and she replaces them. The whole time she's holding the tools very awkward because her nails are so long. The finished result look nice but 3days later 2 of the nails she put on popped off and that never happens to me! I scheduled an appointment at this salon because of the high reviews. I arrived 5 minutes after my appointed time and was told that my assigned hair stylist, Jaya, would be with me, shortly. Jaya approached me after a 10 minute wait to apologize and say that she was running behind and would be another 5 minutes. I said, "No problem," as I didn't have any problem waiting for 5 more minutes. I had a wonderful and welcoming experience at this salon. I got smiles from both stylists and receptionist when I walked in. Akelia came and gave me a consultation, asked ne what I wanted before making suggestions and was sensitive to my waffling about styles preserving my straight ends or a big chop. I ultimately decided on the big chop and felt great about that choice because Akelia was willing to 'make it work!' I was wary because of some of the reviews, but there were enough positives for me to take a chance. I am very glad I did. I got to meet another stylist and see her natural hair skills as Akelia worked on my hair. Even though I changed my mind on what I wanted a couple of times, Akelia was right there with me, no attitude, no sighing or sucking of teeth. The conversation was nice, customers and stylists were gregarious and made the experience fun. I left loving my hair, and feeling confident about my chop. My suggestion would be to go in with an open mind although reviews are helpful, the problem with them is that there are so many variables and perceptions that one really cannot know what made or broke someone's visit here. I went in with knowledge of some of the poor reviews, but decided it was going to be a good experience and went in with an attitude of respect for myself and their craft. I will also say, I DID not have an appointment, I walked in with the expectation that if they were booked and couldn't take me, it was ok. They close at 6:30pm - I walked in at 3:15, so, I'm pleased. FYI, the stylist I had since 1989 retired in early 2019, and we used to joke about how bad she mad me feel about my hair at the initial visit... I ended up here randomly after the girl that was suppose to braid my hair cancelled on short notice. Thanks to the #knotlessbraidsnyc I was able to find this salon. I was able to book an appointment directly through their website which is the best cause going to new salon for the first time can be nerve recking . The hair salon itself is beautiful and spacious they have these fancy mirrors at each station and tall ceilings . I drove from Eastern Long Island wasted my gas to be told to come back on a Thursday for an appointment I made in advance because the person who specialized in the services I wanted wasn't going to be there i will never ever be making an appointment here again!!! Today I got my hair done my CeCe. My overall experience at the salon was rushed because there was some miscommunication about what style I wanted when I made my appointment but in the end it all worked out. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. CeCe jumped right in and did a silk press and a cut. They can be pricey but they will work with you especially if you plan on being a reoccurring customer. I would definitely recommend CeCe. I've been transitioning for a year now and she seamlessly blended my natural and permed hair and gave me a hydration treatment. And the facility is really nice too! Very fancy and upscale. I had called to see if they did gel manicure since it is a hair salon. This is my fault for going to a hair salon to get my nails done, but today was the only day I was free to get a gel manicure. I should have known better. The lady, Maria, that did my manicure seems to not know what she was doing. She kept saying that they needed to get a new UV Gel light because the gel nail polish kept getting ruined. It formed cracks when the gel nail polish dried up. Then she proceeded to say that it was too hot at the salon and that this was the reason the gel did not dry up quick. It looked like the gel nail polish was old and more like a regular nail polish. As you can tell from my pictures above, my white gel manicure did not look nice at all. She had to redo my nails over and over again. After spending an hour and 20 minutes getting only a gel manicure, I was not satisfied with the result. I do not recommend anyone to go to this salon to get any manicures done. read more

The assistants are not good with these textures and seem to prefer doing straight or slightly curly hair.
