Just had dinner here. The service is sub par and the food is mediocre. Tonight (Thursday) is trivia night so it's a little noisy. After a 25 minute wait we were seated. The server brought our drinks and some tasty rolls. My wife and my salads came quickly and were pretty good. The. We had a very, very long wait to get our food. We had our small children with us so the wait was painful. My wife ordered a GF pizza which she said was ok and I order a burger. My burger was bland with little or no seasoning on the patty. Our server was hard to find. Outside of the bar, the dining room wasn't very busy. The server for the table next to us was highly visible for her tables. Wish we had her instead of ours. Usually I tip between 20-25% regularly, but tonight the tip was about 13%. I can't recommend this place and won't be back. read more

WHen I arrived the bar was very busy with only 1 sever/bar person. One thing that was weird is it was 73 degrees outside but the bar area did not seem to have AC and was humid. I started with the 25 cent wings - they were very good. I then had the steak tips with peppers and onions. They were tasty but I did not receive them medium. The twice baked potato was lukewarm. Went here for the first time within the last couple of weeks. It wasn't too crowded which was nice, so me and my group were able to get a table quite quickly. I ordered the quesadilla. It was very good. Had a little bit of a kick from the peppers that were in it. It came with sour cream and salsa. Although I didn't touch the salsa cause I'm not a fan of salsa, but I practically devoured the sour cream since I love that stuff. Pricing was fair. Paid around $55 for three people. I've been going to Jake Rooney for years and was always totally happy with my meal which was usually the shrimp scampi. However tonight I went with friends from out of state and the whole menu had changed no more shrimp scampi so I decided on a nice bowl of lobster STEW...bad choice not only was it $17 which would have been fine if it actually had more than 2 tiny pieces of lobster meat in it so disappointed. Food was average at best. Got the prime rib which was OK. My wife got steak tips, some were good, some we're burnt on the outside. Stuffed potatoes that came with our meals were good, the vegetables were not. Kids were happy with their pizza and chicken fingers. Most annoying thing was that I asked for a side of tortilla chips for the kids. Waitress recommended I get two since they'd likely be very small. Two sizable baskets of chips came. Which were terrible. Seemed stale, although they likely weren't. When I get the bill I am charged $8 each for two "chips and salsa". I complained, but waitress said that how the cook told her to ring it up. I left unsatisfied with my meal and annoyed with how they treated me as a customer. Won't be going back. read more

Typical pub bar with no standout menu items. My wife had the barbecue spare ribs which were decent although the sauce was sugary. I had the calamari which was soggy and undercooked. The drinks were ok but nothing to write home about. The restrooms were clean and the parking was adequate. The saving grace was a Sinatra style singer named Geno. Well we are here last night. The dinner was good, I had the beef tips, and my wife had the braised beef. Then we asked for dessert, apple crisp and cheese cake, both were also good, but the whip cream was bad, spoiled, stinky! I would give it 3 1/2 stars if I could. Went here for lunch and sat in the dining room away from the bar on the other side, the whole place smelled kinda like an old bar. It also looked that way too. I had the early bird meal, which starts at 12, of eggplant parmesean on pasta with red sauce. It came with soup and a desert for $12. I swapped the soup for a salad for a couple bucks extra. I was at Jake Rooney's last night. I have not been there in along time. I was seated right away at a small table. The wait was a bit for the waitress but the restaurant was busy. I did not anyway as it gave me time to explore the extensive menus. I had a Tom Collins to start and it was perfect! Many bartenders do not know how it make these well. Warmed rolls were brought out while I waited for my dinner. I order the Haddock Milanese - delicious! The fish had a nice crunchy crust and was moist & tender on the inside. It was on top a a bed of rice and quinoa with a side of fresh vegetables - cooked just enough, not soggy. Aa the first Tom Collins was perfect, I had a second one. I love this place! Went here with my best friend after the first place we stopped at was packed with a long wait (I was hungry and didn't want to wait). I started with an appletini and got chicken and steak fajitas for dinner. My friend got a mixed grill on a hot stone that you actually cook at your table. I really like this place and it is open in the off season too. The food is good, the menu varied and the prices are reasonable. Having been here several times this year already, I can say the service is always friendly and efficient. We stopped at this place for dinner on our way down to Chatham. There was a shamrock on the sign outside so we thought it would have a hint of Irish flair but it ended up having no identity at all. The menu was all over the pace. There was an array of seafood options, random Italian dishes, and classic American cuisine. The only positive of the meal was my garden salad. Apart from that, we were served dinner rolls that weren't fully baked, my hamburger was overdone, oh and my burger was also served with a dead fly under some of the fries. Last night I had the chicken parm which was very good, my mom had mexican food and dad had scallops.. They have a bit of everything! We've been eating at Jake Rooney's for over 20 years now and have enjoyed many different items on their menu. From fajitas, to sandwiches, to prime rib and short ribs, to many seafood dishes and their homemade soups and chili. Last night, however, I was disappointed with my meal. I got the garlic panko crusted chicken scampi which said it came over rice pilaf. My husband got the seafood scampi which came over pasta. My dish came with 2 nice pieces of boneless chicken breast over the rice, which actually had quinoa in it. So basically I had chicken over rice and without the sauce made the dish dry. The dish did not have any scampi sauce, which is the best part of the dish. My husband's scampi had tons of scallops and shrimp and loads of scampi sauce. I did not mentioned anything to the bartenders, as they were telling people the kitchen is behind and really stressed. In addition to my meal, the guy next to me got served his fish sandwich without the fish on it. It made us bar patrons laugh, but really was was not a good thing when you really think about it. This is a year round restaurant that should be able to handle the busy summer season. I do love this restaurant and will not let this disappointing meal stop me from eating here again. read more

My friend's Prime Rib was enjoyed by her...looked awful bloody to me - recently slaughtered out back. Twice baked potato was not a plus on this plate either. Now the cons: We ordered nachos as well - with chicken on it. I would never order this again...dry and...well, just not good. The beef sliders -listed as "angus" - were mini dry tasteless burgers. I would not get this again. My friend and husband smelled the other yelper-mentioned moldy smell in the restaurant....but I didn't get that whiff. Went to Rooney's last night for dinner. Was an awesome experience! The restaurant was busy but I got seated right away. The Saturday night music was really entertaining and had the whole bar and restaurant singing along! I ordered the sizzling fajitas which tasted amazing, and came out of the kitchen still steaming . My grandpa ordered the swordfish tips and told me they were 5/5. Definitely loved the atmosphere as well as the staff - the hostess and our waiter were both super friendly and professional. However, on two occasions now we have received our meals with foreign objects in them. First a bread tie/twistie thing, and then the top of a ketchup packet, which says to me they are re-using fries? Can't review the food just the service. Upon delivery of our tables drink order an older tatted up server promptly spilled red wine all over 2 of the people at our table. She quickly ran away without a word spoken and retuned roughly 3 minutes later with some soda water, our guests went to the bathroom to try to salvage their clothes (tops, bottoms and purses) and we didn't see our server again for about 12 minutes. She didn't help clean up the wine on the table and chairs or apologize to the party right away. She had other tables to sabotage. Fortunately, a bartender acting as a manager because there were no managers on duty felt "real bad" and offered to pick up the dry cleaning tab. Thanks dude. Since our group wasn't really feeling jake rooneys anymore we decided to leave but don't worry we still got charged for the spilled wine, hey you can't get reimbursed for your dry cleaning and comped a 6$ wine.
