This is an awesome restaurant! Even has karaoke on Fri nites! I highly suggest anyone to this jewel of an eatery!

This was our first visit, and last. If I could give 0 stars I would. We walked in and immediately Jake Rooney's staff falsely accused me of "committing a federal crime" over a valid ID, when I sat down at the bar. Then admitted they "have no way of knowing if an ID is real" while bending my ID (trying to break it) and refusing to serve anyone in our party. I was forced to call the police MYSELF to diffuse the situation. Officers arrived and immediately confirmed all ID's were valid. Instead of apologizing for embarrassing themselves, publicly humiliating a customer, and wasting police resources, staff stood outside smoking and laughing while watching me leave, after publicly destroying my night with my fiancé, friends, and mother. This wasn't a safety check. It was reckless behavior, untrained staff, and a serious lapse in judgment that exposed this business to legal liability. Management should be extremely concerned about employees who feel so freely to falsely accuse customers of federal criminal activity. ESPECIALLY when they admit they can't verify and then mock customers after being proven wrong. Avoid. I'm shocked ownership allows staff to handle IDs in a way that clearly invites complaints and legal consequence. Management should do better, come on now. read more

Went here during the off season, it was very lowkey and a little empty but in a cozy way. I got the grilled shrimp over the rice bowl. It could have had more toppings but it was filling. The waiter was very observant and checked on us a lot. Overall it was cute inside with a little fireplace. read more

We waited at the hostess stand like the signage said - we waited...and waited...and waited. The bartender looked in our direction and couldn't have cared less - where was the hostess? Ah yes after 15min of watching people eat and waiting on the hostess she finally showed up smelling of cigarette smoke. The young dirty blonde long haired hostess asked "table for 3?" to which we replied "no thank you" and we left. We are locals and have enjoyed this restaurant for the last 20+ years and today we decided we will take our business elsewhere. Awful, just awful. read more

Went there with 10 ladies and had a great time for lunch. You can't beat a luncheon menu for $15 and up. Each one of us had a different order, mine was liver and onions. Outstanding. All of us enjoyed our meal. Our waitress was Lisa, she accommodated individual bills for us. Served us with a smile, offered to take our picture, was congenial and fast. Great job from the chef and great job from our waitress. Everyone was pleased. read more

Been going to Jake's for about 10 years and had the worst experience last Friday night. We sat at the bar as usual. We ordered a couple of beers and dinner. We were asked if we wanted dinner rolls, we said sure. We each ate one, then picked up the third one and there was a bite taken out of it. We let the bartender know, and she gave us another basket and didn't say she was sorry or anything. My husband ordered the fisherman's platter and I ordered the haddock sandwich. The platter was not cheap, $34.00, and came with 2 scallops, 3 shrimp and a piece of fish small than my sandwich and a boat load of fries. Although very tasty, not worth 34 bucks. When we told the bartender how disappointed we were, she commented that we should have told her sooner. Why, would she have given us more food? Then we tried to use a gift card and were told they can't take gift cards because their system won't allow them. Really? Ring it in as cash. We won't be hurrying back anytime soon read more

I came here a couple times for karaoke night with friends and family and had an amazing time! There was decent food and good vibes, but the last time I went for dinner I didn't communicate with my family about who was going to tip our waiter and assumed someone would leave it in cash like usual. Then our server named Bill came back and asked if there was something wrong with the service and when my mom started to offer cash or repay and make it right he said "if you can't afford to go out to eat then don't maybe you should look into how gratuity works" My sister was crying and my mom was appalled by how we were treated for a miscommunication and for trying to make things right. After this night we don't plan on coming back and we haven't. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. We were greeted promptly and were offered to either sit in the bar or dining room. We chose the dining room which had a combination of tables and booths. Seating was very comfortable. Our drink orders were taken immediately and our drink refills were by way of a carafe filled with our beverage choice. The menu is very extensive offering plenty of choices for everyone. We ordered the French onion soup, wedge salad, and beef quesadilla and pretzel sticks. The onion soup and pretzel sticks came out together and both were piping hot. The pretzel sticks were soft and covered with plenty of salt. They came with a cheese dip which was a great touch. The French onion soup was covered with plenty of cheese and was nice and brown. Parting the cheese there was an incredible dark broth with amazing beef flavored, an incredible amount of onions and croutons. The flavor was one of the best broths we've had anywhere. The star of the meal hands down! The quesadilla was nicely browned and was loaded with plenty of ground beef and cheese. It was served on a very large platter fulling half of the plate it was so large. Beef had plenty of flavor and was very enjoyable. The wedge salad was a large wedge, one of the largest we've seen surrounded by blue cheese crumbles, tomatoes, bacon and chunks of cucumber. It was served with a large (requested) container of home made blue cheese. Lettuce was very fresh and crispy. The dressing was okay, could have been a little less runny and more flavorful as could the blue cheese crumbles. But still proved to be a large and filling salad. This is a place that has been around for a while. Don't let that deter you from walking in and sitting down and enjoying yourself. Given our experience there's no question we'll be back again to try other menu items. Service is warm and friendly and you'll be well taken care of. read more

Just had a great dinner at Jake Rooney's. I started with the cheesy garlic bread, which was delicious on it's own, but with the two sauces that came with it - marinara and fresh basil pesto - SO good! For dinner I had marinated steak tips which were melt in your mouth. The mashed potatoes were home made I found out, and were equally great. The bartenders were friendly and attentive and the ambiance was relaxed, with plenty of large screen tvs to watch the game on. Definitely will be back! read more

I don't write a lot of reviews but not the same Jake Rooney's I visited months ago. I came back for Thursday trivia night. Last time I was in I had the best experience with great service at the bar. The bartenders were funny and fast, attentive. This was no longer the case. Waiting for a drink seems the norm, as the other customers around me had the same complaints. The bartender "skittles" seemed to spend more time out smoking then serving drinks. Coming back to the bar with a fresh layer of cigarette smoke. Not the most appetizing while deciding on what to order for dinner. It's to bad how much this place has changed and not for the better. read more

Had Kim as my waitress, literally the worst ever. I ordered my drink and 20 minutes later she checked to see if I got it. In the middle of my drink order she left me to take another tables order. I had to wait an additional 10 minutes to make my order! It was a horrible experience. read more

Basic place that doesn't reflect a seaside location but they are one of the very few to offer Lobster Stew, which was excellent. One thing though, not enough meat in the bowl so I would recommend asking them about having double the meat. They seem agreeable to doing that so you may want to inquire. Would repeat:-) read more

This used to be one of our favvorite places. deccided to try it again. Menus seemed rather sparse bur good. I orders a "special" dinner advertised as Jumbo Shrimp and Scallops. The jumbo shrimp would be called popcorn shrip in any other restaurant, The scallops about the size of a quarter. However the rice was quite good. The entire entree was grossly over cooked and for the first time in my life I had "tough" scallop. This should be listed as an appetizer not entree. Service was horrible. She never bothered to check back with us, waited atlkeast 15 minutes to get someones attention we needed more iced tea to wash down the dried shrimp. Then waitedd another tem to fifteen for it to actually show up. This place makes Mickey Dees look good. AVOID unless starvation is eminent ! read more

When we walked in the door we were greeted by a very friendly hostess. We ended up sitting at the bar and both bartenders were friendly and attentive even though they were very busy. We started with poutine which was awesome. The food was reasonably priced and the portions were perfect. Definitely will return, so many more items that we would like to try on their menu. read more

Always would drive by and finally decided to give it a try! Huge menu with many options. First time tried the Mac n cheese and chicken fajitas. Sorry no pictures but both were very good. My hometown staple, the lobster *stew* is something I will always crave. The removal of bread bowls made me sad but I understand they have a short shelf life and can be hard to serve at a restaurant. The dinner rolls are just as good. Great bar, atmosphere, food and friendly service. read more

I'd be remiss if I didn't reaffirm the high quality food, friendly and family like vibes/ambiance and acknowledge the freshness, deliciousness and value of the food that comes out of that kitchen. With a party of 6, each meal was cooked to perfection, delivered together and brought with a smile by a lovely young women (didn't get her name). The overall experience was memorable and Jake Rooney's continues to impress and exceed expectations. Loved the specials last week had spinach and goat cheese salad with a wonderful balls ahmik glaze along with lemon drop chicken that had perfect pockets of mushroom ravioli.. We used to love coming here. Always felt welcome at the bar and great pub food. Not sure what has happened but service was terrible. The bartenders were too busy doing shots to pay attention. Once the food actually arrived it was ok but we waited well over 20 minutes for a salad and close to an hour for our dinners and there was no one in the restaurant. Haven't been to Jakes in awhile, we were sat in the bar side to noisy for me but that's me. I had the small plate meal of short ribs on naan bread, just the right size for the money very tasty.My wife had the shrimp scampi that was on special that was disappointing. The flavor was good but 7 shrimp for 30 bucks was ridiculous. Portions were a bit off for that price. Other then that it was a good experience hence only 4 stars. Will go again but probably stick to the small plates, or burgers. read more

I haven't been to this place in more than 5 years i thought it was bland then and decided i wasn't gonna go back but in desperation of food a little after 9 I got takeout and ordered online, i paid $15 for 6 chicken tenders that had the consistency of rubber and tasted dry and more bland than the Sahara desert. Also to add even more fun, they kindly added a pinch of old lettuce that had mayonnaise mixed in with it. Nowhere on the menu item did it mention anything about that lol.
