We've been here for lunch and dinner. Lunch has more food choices and I preferred having more options. Dinner is all family style - you choose your meat and everyone shares the sides. Stopped by this place this morning with my family. There was a 25 minute wait, which was not a issue at all. However when we got seated the waitress spoke in a way that felt she wanted to rush us. There was no greeting or explanation of the menu just rushing us through everything. We had never been before so we each ordered our plates. Without the wait for the table we were there for over a hour and we ate pretty quickly. The service was extremely slow. The food was ok... we had no idea that the food was going to come out family style. Which is fine we enjoy eating like that. However the black eye peas were out of a Can, the beans were out of a can the mashed potatoes had to be boxed potatoes. It really wasn't anything special. The atmosphere is really cool lots of nostalgic car stuff. The restaurant it self is really cute and family friendly. My daughters plate was a paper car and it was super cool so that was a special extra touch. I will say there was a table of 10 seated next to us and their 2 kids had there tablet on and were watching videos on it blasting noise. It made it really hard to enjoy anything as that's all we could hear. It's a nice place to stop if you want a fun atmosphere ,but if you are wanting some good real cooking there are plenty other places to try in waco. read more

Lunch on 6/12/22. Ok food although canned veggies are not my style. Entree's were better than the veggies, but still only average. Service was slow. Also had a sign taped to the TV that read "We will not show any games with players that do not stand for the National Anthem." The implicit message offended me, and I will not be going back. read more

What a cute place!! They serve family-style and everyone is so kind and friendly. The food is very good too. I suggest the hamburger steak!

Great atmosphere and the food was delicious. Lucky to come on a Sunday and get the fried chicken. Four star rating because the service was pretty slow. They need another waitress. The place is packed and busy and she has a lot to do. We will be back though. You get all you can eat sides family style and the main dish of your choice. Since there are 4 pieces of fried chicken my husband and I shared. My son got the pot roast and it was good too I'm not a big fried chicken person but this was great. Had plenty of time to write this post while waiting on our waitress. Kinda ruined the experience but we'll try it again. read more

We found Jake's online while prepping for a day trip to Waco. The menu seemed like a good fit for our family's range of food issues (some vegetarian, some meat eaters, some gluten free & some picky eaters). The menu changed over the weekend, which was not noted on the Facebook page (they didn't have a website)- so one of our kid's couldn't eat anything at all & one of the adults could only eat a side salad & a mushy bowl of corn that arrived cold. We arrived early with only a few other customers there. Other customers were seated, ate & left before we got our food. We waited for an hour before our food finally arrived. The side salad was good, but that's about all. Not great food, not great service- nothing special. We will not be going back. read more

We made our way here after we got off the Trolley on the wrong stop, so longer walk to find it here.. but nonetheless we made it. It was a late Saturday afternoon, seemed like a real casual place. The banana pudding was just sitting out on the bar table and that was odd, any dessert I order I'd want it to be in the cooler or fridge not out, that was weird to us. Stopped here while driving back home from Austin for a quick lunch. I believe there was a farmers market in progress so we were worried the wait would be bad but we were seated right away. The food here was ok, not under or over whelming. If you are hungry, this place will fill you up but nothing we ate felt like it was a 'must have' item that would draw us back. They did have some delicious looking desserts on display, one being a banana pudding. I just could t pass up a chance to try one of my favorite desserts. I'm so sad to say that it was not good. Partly my fault, because I did not ask if it was served warm or cold as I am not a fan of warm banana pudding. It was served warm with very little flavor. I had the blue cheese burger. This is the best blue cheese I've ever had! The bread pudding was ok at first but after I let it set a minute and took a second bite, it was delicious! Food wasn't all that great. They charged 8.50 for the "sides only plate" for my wife and 14.75 for my chicken fried steak. They only brought one set of sides and claimed they were a double portion. All in all we ended up paying $30 for 2 sweet teas, a chicken fried steak with 4 small tasteless sides, two small salads and an empty plate. Would have given one star if the tea wasn't so good. If you decide to go here just get the tea. read more

Great decor. Lots of good food. Loved the family style service on Sunday. My wife got the pot roast and I got the fries chicken. Both were tasty. The chicken was good, but nothing supper special. The roast was very good and tasted like home. Mashed potatoes tasted homemade. My only regret is that the Sunday menu doesn't include the spicy gravy which I was hoping to try. Delicious food, great service. Cool atmosphere. Very clean, everyone from the waitstaff to the customers looks so happy. Maybe the fact that it was one of the most beautiful days in recent memory might have had something to do with it - nevertheless! I really loved all the Texas themed decorations. Having a challenge finding a place to get into on a Friday night. Found The reviews for Jake's Texas Tea House and thought a good place to try. Definitely a great bet. Was met at the door by a very cheerful and polite gentleman who accommodated our special seating request with grace and a smile. The ambiance is adorable. I expected the typical kitschy 50's/car themed restaurant. Actually is extremely well done, not over-the-top at all. Very nice and rather intimidate for the type of restaurant it is. Evenings they offer all you can eat sides served family style. All are very tasty. On the night we were here they gave us creamed corn, black eyed peas, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans. An amazing array. You also get a table side made Ceasar salad with super yummy yeast rolls or corn bread. A Huge amount of food before you get to the entrees. Hubby had the ribs. He could not enough. The pot roast was tender but not mushy with really good flavor. Our server, Cassia was attentive without being annoying. They all work incredibly hard yet are helpful to all customers. Overall. This place is a must by when you're in Waco. Especially if you have a family. It is decked out in 50's automobile memorabilia. It is really fun place. The only thing is you have to come early, because it seems like it is a local hangout for the older crowd. And they seems very upset when you are invading their territory, especially when you don't have white skin. The staff though is friendly, especially the owners. He really tries to keep things moving. The dessert area looks amazing. The food is really good, it just needs more seasoning. I recommend the chicken fried steak, one of the best outside of DFW. This was a very charming little restaurant, which had a garage type theme and was very nicely decorated. A man who I would imagine must have been Jake himself walked around the restaurant, visiting with guests and making sure everyone was being taken care of. He seemed to take great pride in his restaurant. Our waitress was very polite and attentive. For this restaurant, you'd order your meat of choice, and all the sides (a salad and several vegetables) were served family style. Our waitress told us to let her know if we wanted more of any of the sides. I got the hamburger steak. One friend got the chicken fried steak. The other friend got fried pork chops. The vegetable sides were kind of lacking in seasoning, but it was a very pleasant meal. Plus, there's salt and pepper on the table. I would go back to Jake's Texas Tea House. A unique Waco experience! Family style sides are served with some true Texas dishes. A fun experience not soon forgotten. The chicken tenders were three massive pieces of chicken and there are unlimited side dishes which come with it. All of the food came out warm and fresh except the rolls which could have been good if they were warm/fresh. Ok this places decor is awesome! The restaurant is right out of a 50s time hop! Cool cars and decoration! Literally could've been an attraction all on its own!! Sadly the service, all though friendly, was very slow. Had to wait a long time for food as well as getting our bill. The restaurant sets up family style (you order your entree and the table shares all the sides) I had the hamburger steak that was supposed to be smothered with onions and a steak sauce, and it was dry and tasted old.
