Nice sized menu, prices are friendly and service is quick and staff is nice. Cant speak of the interior as we did take out but the dinners we had were excellent. Fresh, portion sizes are generous and the Sauce is smooth and bright with a subtle sweetness. The Chicken Saltimbocca was a home run, nice wilted spinach and Prosciutto over Chicken breasts in a wine sauce. The Shrimp Parm dinner had a nice amount of Shrimo and a good amount of cheese! Another place I went to after seeing a one bite review, and I personally think the pizza is a lot better than the score it was given! Always have to get a plain slice as the base to judge off of and their plain slice was amazing. Then also got a pepperoni Margherita slice which was recommended by the guy working the counter and that was a great option. Small old school joint that definitely gets busy on Friday and Saturdays in the fall for Rutgers games! Employees were all super nice and helpful and asked what I thought of the pizza. They chatted with me a lot about the history of the place and all the good specialty slices they have that are a little different than normal pizza places. 7/6/25 - I've lived in Central NJ since 2002. I must have driven by Maria's Pizza and Subs in Milltown, NJ a few hundred times but never stopped. Until today. We got a large pepperoni and a large spinach artichoke. I heard that the pizza there was super thin and crispy. This was not my experience. Our pies although on the thinner side definitely have more substantial dough than other thin crust pizzas I've sampled. I've learned that dining in is the way to go from a deliciousness factor. But this place is so tiny inside so I opted for take out. The pies are reasonably priced and they are delicious. There's ample parking in the back. Friendly staff. Fast service. I have to be honest. The food here is not even mediocre. I ordered a large cheese pie and garlic knots. The large pie seemed to be the same size as a dominos medium pie. The pie was so small and thin I didn't even think it was in the box when I picked it up. The sauce and cheese were very bland. There was no taste to the pie at all. Got takeout from Maria's tonight while visiting my Family in central NJ. Ordered around 7 pm and our food was ready right on time for pick up 25 minutes later. We ordered a grandma pie with pepperoni and a medium white pie. The grandma pie wasn't as crispy as I hoped when we first brought it home, but after keeping it in the oven for 20 minutes or so, it got crispier. The sauce was good and lots of pepperoni. At first glance, the white pie just seemed like a solid cheese layer; I'm used to white pies with blobs of fresh ricotta throughout. It was pretty tasty though, again after keeping it in oven for a bit to get crispier and warm the cheese. I'd give this place a solid 3.5 stars. Good pizza for the cost. A little oily. read more

This place has had its ups and downs over the years, but lately it just gets worse and worse. I've been giving them another chance as I said in my previous review, but now they've really hit rock bottom. I don't know why they are so busy, but they are totally unable to handle the volume, and when that happens you can be sure the quality and the service both tank. It's not the first time I've had bad service there, but this really takes the cake. We were told 35 minutes, so fine, we went at 35. Well, it wasn't until 60 minutes that we got our food. Completely and totally unacceptable. They were happy to make us pay for food that they hadn't even started preparing yet. Was it worth the wait? Let's see... soggy fries, completely bland eggplant parm. The pizza? Well, not the worst but definitely nothing special. You can get the same quality or better at any of the nearby places, and without double the wait time. My previous visit I got half mushroom. Yikes... it was jarred or canned mushrooms, a sure sign of a second rate pizza place. It was total garbage. Like they dumped half a jar without even draining it first. That half didn't cook properly, besides the fact that it wasn't fresh mushrooms. Mushroom pizza is my fav, but this has turned me off of it for a long time, even if is available fresh some other place (you known like ANY pizza place with an ounce of integrity would provide). At least tell us it's not fresh mushrooms when we order it... you know, like you should tell people it will be an hour, not 35 minutes, and have them waiting around doing nothing for all that time. Such baloney. Oh, and FYI they always charge a little more than what's listed on the flier they JUST mailed out. So, a ripoff, bad quality, and bad service. No more chances. Never again. read more

I have been going to Marias since it was opened by Vinny of Vinnies in East Brunswick. Vinny opened Vinnies Pizza of East Brunswick in 1976 and sold it in the 90's to Kareem who changed his name to Vincent and Vinny moved his pizza shop to Milltown and called it Maria's, after his wife. Somewhere along the line, i moved out of town and this is where my knowledge of the story ends. Until last Night, when i returned to town and was looking for pizza. I guess vinny is now gone and new owners have taken over. And while I loved Vinnys pizza, I must say these new guys are really killing it. I placed a fairly large order, two pies one regular, one bar pie, calzone with ham, a Stromboli and a salad and was really happy with the food. The calzone came with mozzarella and ricotta cheese, we asked for him inside and it was plentiful. The outside crunchy and brown, the inside was hot, cheesy and salty. A really delicious rendition and for 8 or 10 bucks, a value. Their pizza is the best in the area for sure. Having recently tried a few other spots in town, from Mancini's to Pascual's brick oven, this was a clear winner. Salad is probably the least successful thing we had as well as the stromboli. We added a mod so I think we might've messed up that order, but face between getting a calzone or a Stromboli, I will get a calzone every time. I wish we had ordered the chicken Parm as well. When I returned home I felt badly as they had given me an extra pizza. I wasn't going to return it as they would've just thrown it out. So we packed it up and I have a bunch of frozen pizza. They were so busy last night, the wait was about an hour but, the people answering the phone conveyed this to me. I want to be there as the food came out of the oven and showed up 10 minutes early and they were pretty on point with the time they gave me. I was able to watch as the people were preparing the food and it's pie that came out better and better. Staff was masked, most of the idiot customers were not. Their appetizers do not rock my world and the tortellini soup they offer is solid but just okay. For future orders I will just get their pizza. It tastes good and is fresh. That is all you need. It seems as if their pizzas, calzones and strombolis are their main focus. Their appetizers are good too (the buffalo calamari is the bomb) but disappointed in their entree dishes. The spaghetti bolognese sauce looked almost like a vodka sauce with not a ton of meat. Bolognese is usually less pink and heavy on the meat. For paying $10.99, I was expecting more meat in the sauce. The meatballs recipe needs to be completely changed. I get better meatballs at Sbarro's, which is not saying a lot. I pretty much judge any "Italian" place by their meatballs. If this was the test, they failed. Not a lot of seasoning and the texture is odd - almost like there's meat filler. Service was good. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. I really enjoyed the pizza! I decided to go with a slice of plain and a slice with vodka sauce. The plain slice was good. It had a light, thin base which was soft rather than crispy. The crust had a pleasant, bakery bread flavor. The sauce and cheese were both quite good and applied with a good ratio. The vodka slice was excellent. It featured a delicious, creamy, cheesy sauce with fresh mozzarella and delicious, fresh basil. I would definitely return for more pizza! read more

Great pizza, friendly, efficient service. Pickup orders always ready on time. And they have not raised their prices since COVID, unlike many other places. Only problem we ever had was with the "SLICE" app - more about that later. The Rustica pie is as good as it gets - loaded with sausage slices, roasted red peppers, red onion, the most delicious Gaeta olives (whole, not sliced), and fresh moz. Check out their menu for some additional very creative, original pies. Example of the kind people you are dealing with at Maria's - ordered through SLICE. On opening pickup order at home, plain pie, rather than the works. Called Maria's and they apologized and offered to replace, but we decided to eat what we got - we were hungry and it smelled so great. Maria's IMMEDIATELY sent SLICE the credit for the wrong pie, PLUS a generous courtesy amount. Emailed me a copy of the SLICE refund transaction. Unfortunately SLICE chose not to pay or credit the refund. After waiting a week I called SLICE, told them about the problem. SLICE claimed they didn't even have a record of the original purchase.... odd because I had a confirmation copy. SLICE insisted I had to send them proof of the original purchase transaction from my credit card records. Told them to pound salt - they have an accounting problem, gave them 48 hours to straighten it out. After time was up, I posted a 1-star review on Google against SLICE. That lit a fire, and after a few more days I received my credit. Short story - call Maria's and place your order. That way SLICE doesn't take a cut from the purchaser, and a cut from the business.
