Being Texans who are used to Tex-Mex, my boyfriend and I were a wee bit apprehensive about going to a Mexican restaurant in Alliance, Ohio. The locals said that it was good, but our experience had been that Americans who haven't lived in Texas, California, New Mexico, or Arizona don't know what good Mexican food is. Although our waiter wasn't the best, the food was fantastic! The chips and salsa were fresh and tasted like they were made in-house. My boyfriend and I both got the floutas, which were tha bomb! A group of 8 of us were here last night for my 30th birthday. Usually, if we want Mexican, we go to Don Panchos (and it's a tradition for my birthday). But I think from now on though, we'll just come here. Everyones food was really good and nice large portions, but not obscenely large. Margaritas were good (and I think they must use better tequila than Panchos because I don't have a headache like I always do from theirs). The restaurant itself seemed clean and nice (no sticky tables). The hostess was really friendly and was happy to help us switch our table for 6 to a table for 8 after we'd already sat down and ordered drinks, because last minute people showed up. The other servers that helped bring out our food were all really friendly too. The woman at the front (who I assume is the owner or manager) was very sweet, though she didn't speak any English so I'm not sure what she was doing at the front of the house? Our one issue was our server. We were calling him Grumpy Gus (not to his face, obviously). I don't know his name because he never spoke 2 words to our whole table all night (and we were here for 2 1/2 hrs) but he was a Mexican guy with glasses and medium length hair (sorry, I can't narrow it down further). He'd just stand beside the table and stare at us until we called out what we wanted or told him we needed more time. It was really weird. Every other staff member we came in contact with was great. I'm not sure what this guys problem was, but he needs some training for sure (or a new job...). As soon as we got there, the girls were gonna get a pitcher of margaritas and the guys were gonna get a pitcher of Dos Equis. But as soon as I said "a pitcher of margaritas", he walked away. Didn't even ask if we wanted anything else to drink (which we obviously did) or any appetizers. Then every time we'd ask for something he'd roll his eyes and walk away as if we were really putting him out. There was one person that was drinking water and he couldn't get a 2nd one to save his life. Our 2nd pitcher of margaritas stayed empty for quite awhile before we had to track him down and ask for another. He had walked by the table at least 2-3 times while we were drinking our last ones and never asked if we wanted anything else or even looked over at us. Of course, that would have meant, he'd have to speak to us so I guess that was too much to ask... We are usually VERY good tippers (as in, I don't remember ever leaving less than 20%) but we were forced to leave this guy barely over 10%. I really hated to do that because I know how hard MOST servers work. But this guy didn't even deserve what we gave him and if it had been up to my husband he wouldn't have even gotten that. All it would have taken to get a $50-70 tip from our group is a smile, a few friendly words and not letting our drinks stay empty for 20 minutes at a time. We're pretty easy to please. Instead he was stuck with probably not more than $20 between the 8 of us, because he was so horrible. Sucks for him. Bottom line, we'll definitely give this place another shot because we did like the food, drinks and atmosphere better. But if we get another waiter who won't speak to us (or this guy again...), we'll just go back to Panchos and never look back. read more

The only reason I gave this place 2 stars is because the margaritas were pretty good. The food, not so much. I travel more than I care to and eat out a lot. Perhaps because I was in El Paso, TX a couple weeks earlier to eating at Jaliscos, but I found the food very bland. If you like spicy food, Taco Bell is next door. Neither my wife or I enjoyed our food. I had the enchiladas (which doesn't come with the traditional rice and beans) and my wife had tacos. Food was good and service was fast. The server was good but never smiled. The atmosphere is loud probably due to the size of the dining area. Portions are normal sized. For a Mexican restaurant it was ok but nothing special. One ding was I ordered a guacamole salad which had very little guac in it. read more

This is the kind of place that you like to take a gang of kids or teenagers because they can eat a lot for a very reasonable cost. The restaurant is clean. The wait staff is efficient and the taste of the food is... unremarkable. One dish I think they do a very good job on is the chicken mole. I also recommend the guacamole; it's always fresh and tasty. This place is OK. It is vaguely reminiscent of the former Mexican place just down the road that used to be in the old Dawson's building- La Pinata. Probably the most authentic thing about this place is that mainly Mexicans work there. The food is very bland indeed. I've eaten there several times since they opened and each time find myself drawn just up the street to Don Pancho's-- the real deal here in Alliance. Pancho's has been in business since 1970 so they must be doing something right. Jalisco is decent, but my palette gives Pancho's priority. read more

Have eaten here from time to time if I'm in the area. Try not to eat at chains and support smaller Mom and pops or locally owned mini chains if possible. I also know that "Mexican" food really isn't. Having said that, here goes. Husband and I both ended up working in the Alliance area and finished up around 4pm. Decided to grab a bite before heading home to Canton. Being an off time, Jaliscos had only 3 other tales occupied. We were promptly seated and placed drink orders. Margaritas and water (ugh, I had forgotten how horrible Alliance water was!) quickly and placed our food order. Salsa is ok, as are margaritas. Nothing special, but at least not that odd bright green color that some margaritas are. Waiter brought us the wrong food. Came back to our table and delivered it to another table. Which is fine by me, but if I was the other folks,,,,I wouldn't like it. Received our correct order in a timely fashion. What a disappointment! Greasy, greasy, greasy ground beef was about all that everything consisted of. No flavor. Just grease and odd tomato sauce. Not sure what happened in the kitchen this time. I will try it again if in town, but now I'm wondering if it was empty due to the time of day or the poor quality of the food. I hope this was just a bad day in the kitchen. Eat here a lot because it's the only Mexican place other than Pancho's in Alliance. The food isn't anything extraordinary, and the service is pretty much the worst I've ever experienced. They get our orders wrong more times than not; they never look under staffed but are slow about everything; and they just seem to not understand the concept of customer service (ie. don't sit at the bar and eat your own food when your customers are staring at you, waiting for a refil, a box, or their check). read more

We initially started off at another Mexican restaurant down the street but that did not work out so well because when the salsa tastes worst then out of a jar from the grocery store it was time to go . So still craving Mexican Food we delightfully came across Jelisco, a bright warm greeting atmosphere. we ordered a margarita an a tecate an enjoyed a very plentiful portion of tasty food. wanted to try desert but no room gonna save that for next visit. My wife and I went in here looking for an appetizer and a drink before an event we were attending. We ended up getting a jumbo margarita, large beer, a combo dinner and the complimentary chips & salsa. All of this cost only a couple dollars more than a beverage-less lunch at Panera earlier that day. I thought it was great value and the cheese enchiladas were delicious. We've eaten here a few times and each time are satisfied. It's very clean, service is quick and professional, food is priced reasonably and is pretty good. I've read other reviews that talked about bland food. I'm not really into hot and spicy food so maybe that's why I like it but there are options to spice up dishes if you want. Overall this is someplace we tried due to a recommendation from a friend and we haven't been disappointed yet. Have to say the guacamole is some of the best I've tried. read more

I have enjoyed everything I have tried here. I love the salsa and guacamole. My favorite entree is the California burrito, it's such a yummy medley of flavors, and it's big enough to split or take home for another meal! The beef tacos are another favorite. They also have a kids eat free night. They have beer and Margarita specials, too. Service is inconsistent, sometimes it's great, sometimes not so much. When my wife and I get home from work, and neither one of us are interested in chopping onions and warming up pots, I ask, "do you want to go out?", and she says, "yes", there's not even a followup question, "Where do you want to go?". We just get in the car and go to Jalisco's. Yea, sometimes the service is slow, and yea, the server guy in the glasses is kinda cold, but they mix the best Margarita's in Alliance (D.P. is lame). Best bang for your buck? The Guadalajara Special...ask for no chips on the bottom. You'll eat your fill that night and have PLENTY for lunch the next day. read more

I'm not a picky eater. But I can at least finish a meal at Ponchos... The second time I've eaten at Jaliscos was terrible... The waiter was pleasant and very quick with getting the food out, however, the meat was gritty (my boyfriends was too!) and there was hardly any flavor. The waiter did take my boyfriend's meal off the bill - when he asked me if I wanted a box, I politely declined and he pulled the box away with ridiculous attitude... I was at least going to leave a tip for his service but I said forget it at that point. I would have felt better throwing my cash into a ditch. read more

okay.. so I have only dined here one time, but my experience was HORRIBLE. the only good thing about my experience was the chips and salsa.. those were quite yummy. but.. for one, our server (Cesar) and from reading these reviews I think we are all talking about the same employee.... (glasses, brown hair, Mexican ethnicity) he was quite awkward with us and didn't say really anything or smile at all .. I myself had to ask for a refill... he did not check up to see how our meal was. which was really not tasty at all.. i had an enchilada and beef taco and burrito, ugh. this food came out fast yes... but it was cold and nasty, and I love some mexican food but this was the nasiest mexican I have EVER had, AND NOT TO MENTION I GOT SICK FROM THIS FOOD. also.. the manager did come up and ask how everything was and me and my mother both responded, eh.... it's ok (and I had pushed my food away).. we obviously looking dissapointed with our meal... he didnt say anything and just walked away. I was at least expecting him to ask if there was anything he could do to improve our experience.. but nope. and I am a server at a steakhouse and this service and food was just not pleasing....I probably would never eat here again.. just a horrible experience all around. me and my mother both agree we did not have a good experience here.
