I came into this place with high expectations based on the previous reviews but I have to say, overall I was let down. The service was great and the outdoor seating added a nice touch but the food was very average. I ordered a Mexican omelette but I can't figure out exactly what made it Mexican. Sure there was chorizo in there but the caramelized sweet onions overpowered the overall flavor and made it, well, too sweet. I was expecting savory and spicy. The hashbrowns were mixed with yellow pepper and, again, didn't have any kind of Mexican flavor. Overall I was also underwhelmed by the menu selection. A gem in Lincoln park! One of my all time favorite places since I first moved here. It's so cute, clean, & the food is incredible. They are always packed on the weekends, but the wait is worth it. They have my favorite whole grain pancakes and chicken sausage. They also have Nutella on the table, and I've gotten a number of things on the menu that were all amazing. Breakfast isn't the only thing that's great...their chicken sandwiches are the best!!! Keep in mind they are CASH ONLY. Prices are reasonable though, and they are very accommodating. Ehhh I have a couple things to say about this place. First off, they have very nice servers and tasty food. But my friend and I were pretty inconvenienced when we came here. I called in advance and asked if they were BYOB. They told me yes, so my friend and I brought orange juice and champagne for mimosas. Once we sat down we were told there was a $5 corking fee (totally normal) but we were also told that our orange juice was not allowed to be used for mimosas. I wish someone would have told me this in advance. We had to buy a pitcher of OJ for $14, which defeats half the purpose of the restaurant being BYOB in my opinion... The food was delicious and came out very fast, but that's one of the only positive things I have to say about this visit. When my friend and I went to pay, we found out the restaurant was cash only. Don't cash only places say it somewhere, or have a sign most times? I saw nothing on it. So again, we were inconvenienced and had to go next door to an ATM. I'd say the food was good, but this place is not that worth it, in my opinion. I would go somewhere that was 100% BYOB or to a place that offers bottomless mimosas. What made this place really stand out to me was what I had for breakfast. Per my server's recommendation, I had the Breakfast Chilaquiles (a spicy, Mexican breakfast dish). It was SO GOOD. I was blown away, as I'd pegged this place as a classic, pancakes, french toast, waffles, and hash browns type of breakfast joint. Their versatility stood out to me. I appreciate stuff like that. My family wanted to try something new for lunch so I brought them to Jam 'n Honey. This was a perfect lunch spot for them, especially for my brother with the giant Nutella jars on each table. It was busy today, but that did not affect their excellent service. The staff is friendly & very attentive. Our cups of coffee were always hot & never empty (yippee!). We ordered & shared the bacon waffle benedict, Mexican omelet, & the Jam 'n Honey burger. All were delicious, but the bacon waffle benedict was the favorite at the table. Just visited this little spot for brunch this weekend and the food was reallllly good. My friend and I both got the chorizo potato hash thingy, served with eggs on top any way you want them and a generous dollop of guac. First bite...salty chorizo, creamy guac, roasted potatoes and peppers with sautéed onions- get out! The portion was huge so suggest splitting it with someone. The homemade jam on the table just like grandma used to make it. My boyfriend got a standard eggs any style with a short stack of cakes. He is a simpleton when it comes to his breakfast choices so he has had this meal at almost every breakfast serving spot in Chicago. He said the cakes were the best of any he's had. The service was excellent, our server was very attentive, my coffee and water were never empty, and we were seated quickly. The only complaint is that it is tight quarters in there. I've eaten here for breakfast and dinner. I think the breakfast was better than the dinner. The dinner was okay but kind of average. I got the BBQ chicken wrap. I have been to Jam 'n Honey twice now. The first time I was unimpressed with the meal and didn't go back (there are several better brunch options in Lincoln Park..that accept cards). My friend dragged me back there on Saturday for brunch. We got seated right away, the food was pretty good. The waiter seemed to be rushing us a little, he gave us our check when we were about half way through our meal. After our meal we were sitting, finishing our coffees and chatting. One hour and six minutes after we sat down our waiter came over and asked us to leave because there was a wait and they needed a table. I repeat, requested to leave after one hour because they needed the table. I have never had this happen before anywhere, ever. I will never be coming back here. Recently made my first visit to this spot for Sunday brunch. Arrived at 10am and was seated immediately, even before my friend arrived. The bottomless coffee was great - served in small cups but refilled often, so it never got cold and never ran low. My favorite spot in the area to grab breakfast/brunch/lunch. Huge menu with a large variety of options. Some of the best (nutella and banana) pancakes I've ever had. Open for dinner as well, but it is usually quite empty then (unfortunately, so get over there for dinner!). BYOB so if you want some alcohol make sure to bring your own. Another nice touch is that there is Nutella on each table, so I usually save my toast for "dessert". Lastly, I recommend trying the duck bacon. Go elsewhere. Or "buyer beware" here. Or maybe just call the place "SCAMMIN' MONEY." So I've come here a couple of times, and the service has been so-so and the prices high for what you get. But I live in the neighborhood, and the convenience is what has brought me back again. Today, I came with four friends (their first visit), and I can assure that none of us (nor any of our friends) will be coming back. Biggest reason: "scammy" and rude service, in our collective opinion... So you order a crab benedict and there's a price listed, and you're like, whatever, I'll shell out the money to get something you can't get other places. But because most customer-centered places don't use asterisks on their menus, you don't notice the tiny one next to the crab benedict saying that sometimes the crab's price changes "seasonally." What's crab season, I have no clue, and that's the point, I guess. Yes, a waiter can (in a tone I felt was rude) can tell me it's my own fault for not reading the menu carefully enough, or he can -- when we are putting are orders in -- tell me I'm going to be charged extra because it's not crab season. So there's a few extra bucks I don't have any more. Then you spend $9 (not including tax and mandatory tip: read on) on "hand-squeezed" (that means someone's hand pushes a button on a machine) orange juice because the guy didn't mean to use the word "refill" but should have said "another one." Again, shame on me for believing I was getting a "refill" (which I mistakenly figured was free). Same thing happened to my friend. Perhaps if the waiter was nicer, then we might not have felt scammed. I sincerely believe he (and perhaps the ownership) has set up these menu/language games to hand-squeeze some extra cash out of their customers. Finally, and this is what bugs me, is the gratuity. Because we were a party of five, we automatically had a 20% added to our bill. Now a few things: 1) I routinely tip a minimum of 20%. I believe in tipping. Exception being when I feel like my service has been exceptionally bad. And then: I begrudgingly give 15% as I keep in mind all the people (cooks, busboys, etc.) the tip is going. 2) I believe every place I've gone to has a 6-person automatic gratuity practice. The waiter and this place didn't deserve 20%, and almost laughed me out of the place when I even questioned this practice. Bottom-line(s): the food is fine enough, but, once everything is settled, way way overpriced; Chicago has a ton of better, nicer, cheaper, honest places out there; and you work hard for your money, and you (and your money) deserve to be taken better care of. One last thing: don't trust their online menu: I ordered take-out last summer (we had a newborn at the time and just happened to be craving pancakes). I looked at the online menu from the joint's web site. When I got to the restaurant to pick my stuff up, the bill was totally different than what I'd expected. Sorry, they said, we haven't updated the menu prices online. Given that scam, I only have myself to blame for going there today, and embarrassing the crap out of myself in front of my friends. My family and I took my fiancée out for her birthday brunch yesterday, and our overall rating of this establishment was---meh. After deciding what we wanted, we noticed the 'Cash Only' disclaimer in the upper corner of the menu. Luckily we had cash on us, as we would have been finding ourselves going on a journey on Webster Ave hunting down an ATM. The food itself was small in portion, which was just fine for me as I am tired of being served goliath portions and feeling disgusted with myself afterwards for having finished it all. I ordered the Mexican Benedict and it was fantastic in my mind. The quality of the food is decent but nothing stood out unfortunately. I loved the location of the place, as it is situated right on the corner of Sheffield and Webster in a quiet neighborhood with an intimate outdoor patio along the sidewalk. I was the first customer of the day on a gloomy Thursday. The sweet waitress attended to me quickly and immediately brought me fresh coffee and ice water. We even chatted for a bit about the new coffee they started to serve, Philosophy Coffee which was AMAZING. I believe it was the Voltaire blend; super flavorful and fresh.
