I had the Run Dung which is whole cooked fish paired with a delectable coconut milk sauce, it is simply amazing. I love this restaurant but my only suggestion would be that they come up with a lunch menu. Popped in some Caribbean food for dinner and was pleasantly surprised by this place. Not your typical Caribbean restaurant, this place was a bit more upscale than others, elevating my dining experience as I entered the Jamaican themed spot. I sat in an open dining room, as there was just one couple there with the same idea as me for dinner, and I was quickly greeted by a pleasant waitress, who, while she didn't appear to be from Jamaica, definitely was pleasant enough to be granted honorary citizenship to the popular tourist destination. After studying their extensive menu, opted for their crusted salmon entree which was served with traditional rice & peas and steamed veggies. The dish came with a sweet sauce for the salmon but my recommendation would be to order a side of their jerk sauce to add to your dinner. It makes a huge difference and who goes to a Jamaican restaurant and doesn't get something Jerk related. Was bummed that patties take 20 minutes to make, but I appreciate it being as fresh as possible. Jerk chicken was juicy, yet I asked for dark meat and got 1 piece of chicken with jerk sauced skin. The rest were breasts with no seasoning. Rice tasted watery and loose , it didn't marry with the peas and sauce. Cabbage had peppers with no complaints. They are very accommodating we came with 10 people and service was good. Now on to the food. Food is just ok and when I say ok. I think that's even a stretch. I ordered reggae pasta with chicken. I was expecting more of an Alfredo sauce but this was more of a cheesy sauce. If was ok. The chicken tasted kind of old . Like idk where it was cooked . It was not very spicy but it had a taste. I hate to say it but nobody really liked their food out of the 10 people that dined with our group. One said the mashed potatoes had not salt . One said the curry goat was too salty. The above being said, Blake was very accommodating -- offering to answer any questions and checking up on us. The restaurant was not busy. I think they did a couple takeouts while we were there. It's located in the outer rim of the mall next to a busy Mexican restaurant. You'll see the large flag on the outside. Unlike many Island restaurants here, this is not a go to the counter and order from the prepared dishes in a cafeteria style buffet. This is a real sit down restaurant rather than a mainly takeout place -- no styrofoam boxes or plastic ware in sight. I ordered their curried shrimp. The curry was quite flavorful -- it had a little kick but not overpowering. There were 8 large shrimp along with different sweet peppers, carrots, etc. in the sauce. Along side was a mound of white rice and some mixed cabbage and veggies. I'd order this again. My husband had seen a food show earlier about bean stew so that was in his mind. He ordered their ital bean stew from the vegetarian section of the menu. The butter beans (called "ital") were mixed with veggies and all were in a coconut based sauce. It was also served with white rice. He really liked it. Both entree plates were prettily presented with a flower decorating each plate. The food taste and presentation was absolutely spectacular. (Garnished with a beautiful flower). I had the oxtail with fresh vegetables and rice and peas. The oxtail literally fell of the bone. I had a genuine Jamaican cola champagne soft drink as my beverage. Water was served with as hint of lemon. I was there during lunch hour, the service was excellent. The ambience with the music relaxes you and the portraits on the wall represent individuals from Jamaica. The tables are dressed with white linens and drinking glasses with cloth wrapped silverware. Good Jamaican food. Found out that not all Jamaican is spicey hot. Tried out the Jerk chicken wings. The jerk sauce had a bite, but a lot of great flavor. The bite lasted just long enough. I had the braised ox tail with rice and pigeon peas. Complimented with fresh sautéed vegetables. The other dinner had the Brown Stew Salmon over real mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus. I was turned onto Jamaican a very very very long time ago. I vividly remember the first time I was given a styrofoam container full of I didn't know what I was about to experience? My friend and colleague tells me don't worry what it is just @#$&ing eat it! Lol. I open this container and it's full of rice and beans, cabbage, and some meat wrapped around a bone I've never seen before, lol. I ask no more "what it is," but decided to try the meat with the unknown type bone. That first bite was this excellent flavorful soft tender meat was all it took to get me hooked on OXTAIL and Jamaican food for life. Today was my first takeout order from JHG and it did not start out well. The restaurant doesn't know anything about my order? That's what I get for ordering through Yelp through Grubhub through to JHG. They didn't know if I had paid or where the order was made from? Of course I was thinking, did I mess up? Okay after going back and forth I was given the order and they still didn't know if it was paid in full, lol. I won't go back to the middleman again and on top of using the middleman the prices are raised a extra 15-20%. Hmmm... Enough, let's get on with my tastebuds experience. I ordered the Curry Goat, which came with white rice, and some steamed cabbage. I also ordered a Avocado salad that was made up of romaine, avocados, cranberries, mango and it was chopped to perfection. I love my salad chopped. I open the containers and I'm thrilled by the avocado salad being chopped, the curry goat dish was exactly what I've craved for. Start with the avocado salad, their dressing I really did enjoy! The fresh romaine, avocados, cranberries were sooo good. What made it even better was the pieces of mango. This is a salad you must try. I will do it again. The dish I craved for was the curry goat! I know you're saying oh no not me!!! No damn goat for me... lol. Curry is not for everyone and either is lol goat. This goat was cut into curry flavored melt in your mouth pieces of the most tender goat I've had in a long time.Mind blowing good curry goat. I've got to have more curry goat more often. You mixed the curry gravy with the rice, and watch out! I should have asked for more gravy! Damn. It's why I love this dish. Oh, let's not forget the star of the dish, cabbage! Outstanding. Looks to me the food of this restaurant brings me great sadness to talk about how upsetting this is going to be. The so-called "Jamaican" restaurant (by name only) and not by it's appearance unfortunately was a huge disappointment today. The small/medium Jamaican flag hanging on the top left of the outdoor windows, I guess that was their way of convincing patron's otherwise. The racially ambiguous host at the front taking the orders. I am curious to know which of the demographic they were trying to draw in and keep out? The order was an oxtail plate, jerk chicken plate along with mango chicken. Not only is this place inauthentic but the food was not worth the total price. The meat was dry. It tasted like a dry rub instead of cooked with savory sauce. The rice was very very dry and bland. Overall if you're looking for Jamaican food than this place isn't worth the trip. I don't know if the owners are trying to appeal to a certain demographic but here's my advice to the owners. People looking for real Jamaican food want the ambience of the islands when they walk in and not some restaurant that calls itself Jamaican but has no signs of the cultural anywhere but a dangling flag out front. When people look for Caribbean food they're looking for the authentic spices, tastes and aromas. Don't water down your culture to make a buck because you lose out on those dollars because you're robbing people from all over the world the experience of home cooked tasting island food when you take away everything including the ambience. Amazing Restaurant! My fiancé and I decided to try out this Jamaican restaurant and we were incredibly surprised by the hospitality of the staff and the amazing precision preparation and presentation of each of the dishes we got. We ended up meeting the owner when we visited and oh boy she was treat. While the chicken had good flavor it was very dry. The rice too was very dry. The grilled veggies were really good. Not sure this place will last though. The prices are way too high. $4 for a ginger beer is a bit much. $18.75 for the chicken is too much. My total bill was what I paid for jerk chicken, fried chicken and two beverages for my son and I at another Jamaican restaurant just the week before.
