Let me start my review by saying the food was really good and worthy of a 5 star rating on its own. BUT...my experience with this resturant is a classic example of how service can just take away from the food quality. My work colleagues and I were greeted by a friendly host and sat at a table. But everything from service went down hill from there when our actual table server arrived. We were immediately greeted with "You ready", with a frowned face. We asked for water with lemon (never received) and was later served water from a pitcher (without lemons) only later to see an adjacent table served water from a picture with lemon and orange slices. Didn't make much of that. But when our waiter returned to take our order the second time, again with the same "you ready" frown faced I asked for help with the menu. I could hear her sigh so loud I wanted not to believe the feeling that we were bothering her in some way; and there was maybe only a quarter of the tables with customers. After placing our orders I asked my colleagues if they were getting the same vibe as I was from her and they both felt the same way. From my seating angle I could see this young lady server when she approached the front bar/seating area of the restaurant; which appeared to be where the other waiters all gathered when waiting. But I noticed her smiling and engaging in friendly conversation with two customers sitting at the bar. I noticed this difference from how she treated us vs these other guest throughout the entire time. With them she was smiling, engaging and not in any flirtatious way, but seemingly just being nice....being a good waiter. Clearly she was choosing NOT to be nice to us, and this bothered me internally because I did not know why. Our friendly greeter from when we arrived was seen serving another table and whose behavior was consistently friendly with everyone. So why the difference with our waiter I kept asking myself. I still gave a generous tip despite this service. It was important to me to do so, but I probably won't be back here, and this would have been a nice place to go back to with mi amor. read more

First visit to El Palacio de Mofongo. Incredible flavors and a staff that made us feel right at home. .Mofongo con camarones al ajillo was so delicate and succulent. Mofongo con bistec encebollado was prepared skillfully and their mofongo is a wonderful light texture that is clearly handmade with a mortar and pestle. The batido de mango was creamy and not overly sweet from using fresh fruit instead of pre-made purees.The chef owner and the line cook Even came by the table to make sure we enjoyed everything. We had a good lunch here. Unfortunately, they don't have any reasonable lunch specials (which I would highly suggest they add/feature) -- just the same menu for lunch and dinner. But we each found something that was not outrageously priced for a lunch and that we liked. I got an appetizer and added a side of sweet plantains (maduros). It was shrimp "bruschetta". There were three very large shrimp on top of crisp tostones drizzled with a sauce with tomatoes and garlic. It was quite good. The maduros were nicely caramelized and sweet. The portion was large so I brought some sweet plantains home. My husband had a Cuban sandwich. It was a large sandwich cut in half. It came with coated fries -- just okay. He ate half and took half home. It was better later when he pressed and heated it. My lunch was better than his. We will have to try their specialty, mofongo, some time when we are in the mood for a big dinner. read more

A new lunch spot with some of our favorite Latin flavor dishes. I'm always happy to find a place that serves Passion fruit drinks. They also offer a nice selection of wines and beers. Today I chose a Cuban Sandwich for my lunch. It came out hot and toasty with the requisite ham and pork with smooth melted Swiss cheese... and the pickle! The fries were hot and coated to give them a little body and crunch. Generous sized portions, I had to take half home(Dinner!) Our server Maria was from Ecuador and Happy to be serving Latin dishes. This place just nailed. Authentic and super good big mofongos, made with real plantains, not the frozen shredded-pulverized plantain bag, that other restaurant, in Broward county, serves. No wonder restaurant was full on a Saturday's night. The decor is very beautiful, the service was very professional and friendly. Order the bacon wrapped shrimp and the bistec encebollao. Stopped at El Palacio while working in West Palm as I was craving a taste of home after such a long week. The mojitos & apps were good. Service was quick & the drinks were nice & strong. An extensive menu but I had already eaten..so I just ordered the house made Mozzarella Sticks and they were delicious! Enough for a table to share.. My husband and I decided to give this place a try, and boy, are we happy that we did! We ordered the clam appetizer, and they came in a tomato broth that was so good we would have drank it if we had a spoon!!! For our meal, we split a skirt steak and shrimp mofango in garlic cream sauce, and it was amazing! We also ordered a side of Yucca frues that were cooked perfectly! We ordered a bottle of wine with dinner and were pleasantly surprised that it was under $30! If I had any complaints I would say that the "bar" there isn't really a bar. Just a counter with stools that are not high enough (we usually sit at bars but opted not to here because of it). The staff was nice, although I think our server might have been new and had to continuously ask others for help to answering our questions. Very clean, very nice inside. Second visit in 5 months and I have to say the experience was totally different from the first time. The place still looks great with great music playing at all times. Service was a bit off, nothing compared to our first visit. Our waitress recommended that we share certain dishes we had previously ordered rather than getting our own. My husband's salmon was really hard, to the point where you could grab a piece and throw it against the plate and it wouldn't budge. The trifongo and mofongo were drier than usual but still with good taste. The dining room is spacious and elegantly appointed with a full service bar at one end with an opening through which you have a view of the kitchen. We ordered the pechuga de pollo rellena and masita and masita de cerdo. The mofongo was moist on both dishes. Initially, I was out off by the pollo because the first bite was dry but that was simply because it was the thinnest part of the breast but the rest was juicy. The breast itself was stuffed with seafood that I could hardly taste when eaten in combination as it was overpowered by the chicken and accompanying sauce, a sauce that was delicious on its own. I found this place through Local Flavor and I am so glad. I feel like there are limited options for mofongo in Palm Beach County. I had the trifongo. It was delicious. It had that hint of sweet from the yellow plantain. It was so good. I think the stuffed shrimp with the crab meat was the value but I will be back to try other mofongos. My husband had a Cuban sandwich. It was rich and tasty too. It needed more pickles to cut through the fattiness of the meat but it was still a great sandwich.
