This local hole in the wall serves REALLY GOOD jerk chicken for take away. You can't go wrong with the jerk! I've ordered their oxtails a few times as well. The oxtails are inconsistent. They are sometimes served as soon as they are cooked, which is a no no. The best oxtails that I have tasted usually has to sit for awhile. So...What has happened since July? Saturday afternoon, did not want to cook. This was usually the best place to get a lot of good food. Didn't happen - new cook or new management? Chicken was weird - I can't say how, just weird. I don't know what that was they called rice. It was NOT Jamaican rice, more like parboiled and not seasoned. By the way, I had 7 (I counted) beans in the beans and rice.! Plantain was 1/2 cooked. Cabbage not seasoned AT ALL! The best thing about this $22 meal was the doggone bread! Horrible and dirty, don't go there. Old dry food from days ago, rice is instant with a can of kidney beans poured in. Cabbage is disgusting. Oxtails seem to be so old no sauce, no gravy and so so black. These guys should be ashamed of themselves. I will never go back again. read more

This is the best jerk chicken you'll ever have! I've had jerk chicken from many other places around the city, but nothing competes with Jamaican Grill! The owners are very nice too. I should have known better than to order food 2 hours before close. Jerk chicken was burnt and dry. I had ordered a side of oxtails via Grubhub and the restaurant did not call and tell me that they ran out of oxtails before I drove to pick it up. They did not have ginger beer even though it was on the menu. Surprising because Fridays are typically busy restaurant days. Won't be back. There is a waayyy better restaurant in the area that has a bit of a longer drive but is definitely worth it. Worst wait time I've ever experienced. Called in an order and was told 45 minutes. Arrived and was then told to wait another 15. They proceeded to take another 30 minutes. Seriously, hour and 15 minutes is very different from 45 minutes. No food is worth this wait time read more

I usually don't write reviews but in this case, I've been compelled to do so. I placed my order for a vegetarian dinner & brown stew chicken dinner by phone at 2:34 in the afternoon & was told 15-20 minutes. I arrived at 3:15 & my order was not ready!!! Two other people came in AFTER me & ordered at the register & their orders were ready before mines. The cook (Tonio???) had a non chalant, no worries type of attitude & laughed it off when I pointed out that I'd waited an hour for vegetables! I wanted to leave but my cousin who'd driven from Bourbonnais was hell bent on getting the brown stew chicken which she ended up throwing away bc it was dried out & there was no sauce/gravy. She said her food was nasty. I will never go back again which is very disappointing bc I make it a point to support small businesses rather than franchises. I'd like to add that this was not my first time patronizing this business nor was it the first time my food was subpar. I love the food here, but I'm giving this place a poor rating because how poorly the place is run has started to overshadow the food. Too many times I've waited hours (yes hours) for a delivery or spent over an hour waiting for a pick up order that we called in 45 minutes ahead of time. These guys make great authentic food, but they are frequently out of food. They run out of beef patties daily - yes daily. Why not order more? Would never eat here again after reading the inspection report.. I knew something was up and had to call the Oak Park HD. Never used Yelp before but had to warn people of mice and rat droppings. This was the first time I tried this place and it was delicious! It's a hidden gem in Oak Park, they have huge portion sizes that are very affordable, and it is carry-out only. The owners are from Jamaica and the food is fresh and clean, not too greasy. The owners were very polite and grateful for our purchase. I ate the Jerk Chicken Dinner (mixed) and my girlfriend ate the Rib Tip Dinner. It came with beans and rice, a side of cabbage, bread, and plantains. Definitely check it out! read more

Fantastic carry out place in Oak Park. I just got home with a jerk chicken plate with plantains, cabbage, and rice & beans, and ate it standing at the counter because it was so good. Portions are a good size, the seasoning is perfect, and the food is fresh. Their food is really good! This was my 1st trying them but it wasn't at the restaurant. The owner was selling plates at Double Door, a reggae bar, for a decent amount. He gave us a lot of food, no holding back here. I had the jerk chicken plate with steamed cabbage and rice & beans. im not sure why i havent reviewed this before cuz ive eaten here several times. this is strictly a carry out place that has great authentic jamaican food. this weekend i got the jerk wings with the cabbage, rice, bread & plaintains. i also got the curry goat with the same sides. i love their cabbage cuz it has a crunch & good taste to it. the jerk chicken was spicy & flavorful & i love the extra sauce they give you. ive also had the curry chicken which was awesome! i will keep coming back to this place, especially since i can just walk to it. read more

Good. Very good. I love jerk chicken; though I don't eat it very often. This was flavorful, the jerk sauce spicy, the plaintains sweet and just the right consistency. I don't eat the cabbage, but the rice and peas were pretty good as well. They were out of rum cake; so I'll have to go back to try that. But overall pleased. Straight garbage and unprofessional! I walk in music blasting, so much so the gentleman with the Afro and polo shirt on behind the counter and I can speak at a regular level...only then does he go in turn down the music! Ridiculous!!! Counter tops are in disarray! Got my food to go, got home and saw the 1/4 dark was the size of an infant quail! That's garbage...I WON'T BE BACK. Avoid at all costs! I'm a huge fan of jerk chicken and ribs! I believe that there's no such thing as bad jerk anything or at least that's how I felt before eating jerk ribs from here! I wouldn't feed this to a dog and I despise dogs. They tasted like they were cooked the day before and then overcooked on the grill again to make me believe that they were being cooked fresh. They have "No refund" signs taped at the register so I didn't even bother trying to take it back. And the flies swarming around should have been a red flag but I figured Maybe the food was going to be worth the possible health risk. NOT. This place is awful... absolutely disgusting... signs of rat and mouse feces all over the plalce. the bathrooms are untidy. The food, if you are able to stomach eating in a filthy place, is not even good. The chicken was dry and dull. Definitely will be contacting the oak park health dept. for this. I don't write reviews often but I would highly recommend NOT TO EAT HERE. I will start to write more reviews as there are some great places in the area. omg please do not go eat here... absolutely disgusting... there were 3 pieces of hair in my food... the tables are extremely dirty and the service is completely slow. It's unkempt and being from jamaica it was rly a shame... the food was burnt as well ... DONT EAT HERE!!!!!!!!!!! the absolute worst jamaican food i have ever had. i would compare it to dog food. dont go there near closing time or you may see some stuff that would make u not want to eat here ever again! and they had nothing left at all.
