    Jerk Chicken

The food was okay at best. Usually when I order jerk chicken it has a very light and thin spicy sauce, more like a coating. This was like a really thick tomato based gravy. Not quite to my liking. Also the cabbage was crunchy and undercooked.

Curry Goat. LOVE IT. I've never had Jamaican curry before (and goat only a handful of times) and this is delicious!

WOW. Phenomenal. This place is delicious. And not just delicious for the price or for the area, this food is DELICIOUS for anywhere. Come here. Lock your car (the area's not the best), but get over your fears and COME HERE. I'm from out of town and I'm 100% going to make sure to stop here every time I'm in KC. The people inside are SUPER friendly and nice to chat with. The owner and his family are actually from Jamaica, and they REALLY know how to cook. This food is world-shakingly good. This food is book-a-flight-to-Jamaica good. Truly. Here's the thing. Everything is STARTED from scratch when you order, just like if you were cooking at home. Call in 30 or 40 minutes ahead, it's worth the wait. And besides, you'd wait 40 minutes before being seated at a Cheesecake factory and count yourself lucky to get food previously frozen or reheated from yesterday for TWICE the price (and HALF as good). If you'd be happier at Applebee's, go to Applebee's. If you love good, authentic food and want to support a great family business, take a little adventure and go here. You absolutely won't regret it.

We went today for the first time, I had to ask a few of my friends if they ever been and check out reviews on Yelp before I could commit to going. Im so glad that I did. It was really good. I was initially pretty nervous because we called the order in and the guy that answered the phone was very short and didn't get my name. However, when we arrived my s/o went in while I waited in the car. He said he was greeted right away and our food was ready as well. He said the inside was very clean but small. Music was blasting and the TV was on. The food was good, I had to add my own salt but that is to be expected. I ordered the jerk chicken not realizing how spicy it was. I will try the ox tails next time. We will return.

The food was really good. I'm from California and was super surprised to find Jamaican food here. I almost didn't go into the place because the street was busy but the restaurant wasn't busy at all. The guy from Mississippi that worked there made great conversation while I waited. The cook waved and said hello when he brought the food out. Only thing that j was really missing was the plantanes. I'm so use to them coming with Jamaican meals.

Pretty lively today! Jamdown Kitchen satisfies yet again. On this second visit I brought a friend along hoping to share the Caribbean vibe. I had the Curry Chicken and he had the Jerk. Along with two beef patties for a little treat. Great Jamaican food option in Kansas City with great hours.

It's not many places where you can get authentic Jamaican food in Kansas City so I visited Jamdown Kitchen for a try. It's hard not to miss because the building looks like a huge black green & yellow Jamaican Flag in the middle of the block. I tried the Curry Chicken and cabbage and it was seasoned perfect. I will be going back very soon!

If you live in KC area and don't eat here you might be literally losing out on life. The best most tender jerk and curry chicken ever. Order a patty and don't forget the coco bread. You'll thank me later. Dont be scared to try the curry, if your not familiar its nothing close to Indian curry. Customer for life.

I'd heard so many people rave about Earl's Premier that my wife and I finally made our first visit…read morethis evening. After one meal, I understand the buzz. "Premier" isn't marketing flair - it's accurate. This is, hands down, the best raw bar in Kansas City. We arrived for our 5:15 p.m. reservation in the main dining room and were warmly greeted by Allison, our server. She struck the perfect balance - friendly, engaging, and attentive throughout the meal. A great start to the evening. For two diners, we wanted to explore as much of the menu as possible. Before ordering food, we were told the signature Frozen Gin & Tonic was a must. It lived up to the reputation - bright, refreshing, and expertly balanced. The only thing that would have made it better was a slightly warmer dining room. We're big mussel fans, so we opened with the Bangs Island Mussels - and they set the bar high. A generous portion of plump mussels bathed in a white wine and roasted tomato broth that was deeply flavorful without being heavy. The toasted bread was perfect for soaking up every last bite. Simply outstanding. Next came the NOLA-Style Shrimp Gumbo. Served in a small bowl, but packed with richness and depth. Adding a touch of hot sauce brought just the right amount of heat and complexity. A standout dish. My wife - having happily overindulged in mussels and bread - opted for a lighter course: a single Maryland Crab Cake, available fried or broiled. It was almost all crab, clean and flavorful, with a satisfying crust. She couldn't finish it...so I did. When you go to a raw bar, oysters are non-negotiable. I ordered a half dozen featuring both East and West Coast varieties. Each one was pristine, briny, and fresh, and the horseradish had just the right bite. For my entrée, I chose the Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp - four large prawns, each wrapped in crisp, smoky bacon. Simple, well-executed, and a strong finish to the savory courses. Dessert did not disappoint. My wife loved the Lemon Pistachio Chess Torte, while I devoured the Bourbon Apple Tart. She noted that the toasted meringue reminded her of marshmallows - a detail that made us smile. The dining room is intimate and can get noisy as it fills up. Next time, we'll likely try the patio for a different vibe. Pacing throughout the meal was spot-on, dishes came out promptly from the kitchen, and Allison's service tied everything together into a truly memorable evening. We'll definitely be back - and soon.

Every bite had flavor. You can tell it's made fresh. We also had dessert and it was just as good. Not overly sweet, really smooth texture, and a nice way to finish the meal. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed, making it an easy spot to sit back and enjoy dinner. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I'm in KC.

In general, we really love the menu at both bamboo pennies in Leawood and pennies in the village…read more The pennies in the village does feel a little overpriced and it may be just due to the Prairie village premium since we don't have very many restaurants here to choose from, however, it is a bit pricey for what you get recently. We had the softshell crab spring rolls, and it was a bit disappointing that it wasn't even one actual spring roll, but it was rice paper wrapped in the center cut in half so it was really one spring roll cut in half as an appetizer for $16. We were expecting a plate of spring rolls, which usually is two cut in half making four pieces. I've never gotten an appetizer where you paid $16 for one piece. The other issue with the appetizer was the crab is deep-fried and battered, which we did not know and the majority of the crab was the batter and the breading not the crab itself. Again, we understand this is a premium to pay, but it really felt like we weren't getting an appetizer for that price. I will say the dipping sauce is amazing and I quite enjoyed it otherwise I also had a noodle dish, the Pad See Ew flat noodles, which I absolutely love however it was incredibly salty and when it's too salty, there's really nothing you can do :/ it made us feel like the noodles just sit in a pot all day long and so the sauce gets condensed over the day. We also tried the mango duck, which was amazing but again for the price I wasn't really expecting deep fried, and even though it taste great it was a little bit of a shock to have a tray of deep-fried duck. The mango sauce that comes with it is not really a mango purée, which is what I was expecting, but it was absolutely amazing. I loved the sauce I loved the vegetables I loved the presentation. Now I don't have a photo of the food because we were not super impressed with it however, I was very impressed with the rosé. This has become my favorite rosé wine and I've only seen it at Pennys highly recommend it to people who are trying to decide which wine to drink.

I made a reservation in advance which seemed wise in retrospect since the restaurant was quite busy at 7pm. The staff reached out before the reservation to ask about the details of our special celebration. When we showed up they had a nice placard and gave us champagne to help us celebrate! It was a nice gesture by the staff. Our server Adam was too notch, very professional and knowledgeable of the menu. He really made our experience very enjoyable. When you walk in, you're greeted by a reception desk in a cozy room with a beautiful display of wine and comfy chairs in the waiting area. The vibes are immediately warm, cozy, and welcoming. Upon seating, the dining room is decorated beautifully and the low lighting keeps the ambiance going throughout the meal. I would highly recommend ordering the Bubbles & Berries to drink. Not only is it a bubbling beauty, it tastes just as wonderful! This drink alone is an experience and such a fun way to start. For appetizers, I would highly highly recommend the Ahi Tuna Tartare and the Hamachi Crudo. Other wonderful starters are the Warm Bread Service and a sushi roll (we went with the Spicy Tuna). For dinner, recently, I had the Ahi Tuna and the Chilean Sea Bass. Both were wonderful, but my favorite was definitely the Sea Bass. It is so rich and delicious. Those I was with ordered the Sea Scallops (looked incredible), Filets (with different preparations - Maytag Blue Cheese Crust and Black Truffle Butter), and sides of Bacon Creamed Spinach and Jalapeño Au Gratin (all of which I heard were divine). The servers are so kind and knowledgeable. If you have dietary restrictions - not to worry! The servers start the meal asking if there are any they should be aware of and are mindful of this. I've always been too full to try a dessert, but it's on my list to try next time I go!
