    Pistachio tiramisu

This place is below the street level but has windows and sits in a busy area near the university and downtown. It is a Detroit area special that has branched out. The pastry selection is not quite as extensive as the original, but quality was still on display. I ended up with some sort of pistachio raspberry cheesecake kind of a thing, and not for a minute did I wish I'd gotten chocolate, which is a high bar to set. Their chai I asked for just lightly sweetened and it is good that way. You can just get a cup to go, but ordering a pot and dining in is a satisfying experience. I was surprised with this place not being busy; the Yemeni cafes of Detroit are a distinctive experience and I've seen them do well outside of Detroit when they've expanded. I could see this place offering a bit greater selection and more focus on special dietary needs, but they're doing a pretty good job with the basics.

One liner: conveniently next to Cabell library, this beautiful Yemeni coffee shop offers a diverse menu, with a good amount of seating for studying/working --------------------------------- Drinks: I don't regularly drink yemeni coffee however I definitely need to more after trying this place! I love all the use of spices ie ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, in the drinks Pastries: we tried the pistachio honeycomb bread (Khaliat Al Nahl), I expected it to be very sweet but it wasn't which was good Recommendations: Yemeni latte, Adeni chai, honeycomb bread Affordability: about $6-7/drink/pastry Ambiance: excellent place to work, meet up with friends, very clean Service: server was very kind, when we said it was our first time here, he brought out some sample chai lattes which were very kind Good for: Yemeni coffee, place to work/read

With plenty of seating and room for plugging in devices, Qahwah house seems to be a great place to study or get some work done. Coming here was like taking a walk down memory lane for me-- the cafe is located in the same space as the old Virginia Book Company-- I remember coming here to pick up books and supplies back in college, and it was nice to see how beautifully Qahwah has utilized the space. I ordered the pistachio latte with oat milk, and I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of flavor and quality of the drink. Will definitely be coming back if I'm in the area!

I love seeing more and more Arab businesses open up in RVA. If you're looking for delicious and strong coffee, Qahwah House is for you. I visited with some friends earlier this year and had a blast. There is plenty of seating throughout the store (only indoor available). This spot is right by VCU. I love that they play Arabic music in the shop. The menu is very big and has a huge variety of sweets and drinks to pick from. If you're not a coffee person, they have endless tea options. The people who work here are kind. When you place your order you get a buzzer to tell you when your order is ready. My mom enjoyed speaking Arabic to the baristas. As for bathrooms, there are three single stall options. One labeled woman, another man, and another all genders. The star of the show to me are the coffee pots. You can pick from a small, medium, or large pot and then choose which specific Yemeni coffee or tea pot you'd like. There are different options with different spices or cream. It's extremely charming. You can also opt to just get a single cup of a different coffee or tea. On my first visit I remember getting a latte I really enjoyed. On this recent one with my mom, we adored a pot of Mofawar (medium roast coffee served with cardamom & cream). I'm excited to try some of their sweets on my next visit. I highly recommend this spot.

Awesome space for hanging out or doing work. Super spacious and cozy. Chai latte was delicious. If you get the pot to share, it comes with a little candle to keep it hot. Service was fast.

Plenty of seating for students, remote workers or anyone wanting a space to enjoy their order. Ordering was easy... and only took about 5 minutes to be ready. The spinach and feta pastry....I NEED ANOTHER I also ordered the Moroccan tea w/honey. Loved it. Annnnd....I got a matcha latte ... you know, for the road :)

Richmond location has a large, cool interior with lots of decor related to Yemen. Seems like a great place to do work. I got an iced Yemeni coffee and sabaya, both of which were excellent. Very excited that a location is coming to DC soon!

Delish coffee!! I went twice in one day because of how addicting the pistachio latte was. Went around 7am and it was very quiet inside and clean. - went again around 5pm and it was busier but still a ton of seating. The art work on the walls are cool too! Kinda pricey but worth it.

Wanted to try something different over the weekend and saw this coffee shop was open til midnight. Never been to a cafe like this but I absolutely loved it!! As soon as I walked in, I felt welcomed and immersed in the Yemeni culture. I got the pistachio latte and it was absolutely delicious!! The raspberry cake was also really good and not too sweet. I'll be bringing all my friends here whenever I'm in Richmond!

What a spot - if I went to VCU as a student, I would be here almost everyday, I promise you. Huge cafe with plenty of seating, and coffee that is truly so delicious - I got the Qishr coffee and savored every sip, each packed with some serious flavor and just as much caffeine to keep you wired. The Honeycomb Bread is like a bundle of joy in every bite - so subtle considering it is technically just bread and cream cheese, so you don't really expect the world but man do you get it. Every piece is equitable in that every "ball" has its own filling, so not one bite is lacking. Took awhile to get everything to my table, but they were also super busy so that was foreseeable. The Richmond-specific mural was the finishing touch on an otherwise amazing cultural experience right here in our home. Wish I could be here everyday.

Qawah House is a spacious coffee shop located near VCU specializing in Yemeni coffee and oh my goodness was the coffee good. The inside was stunning with beautiful lighting, colorful murals and pretty florals. There was ample seating and enough space between tables to not feel cramped. The menu is extensive and there is a variety of drinks for every person to enjoy. From refreshers to teas to coffees, I almost wanted to try everything. We ended up trying an iced caramel latte, an iced pistachio latte with oat milk and the honeycomb pull apart bread. They were all delicious but the pistachio latte was my favorite it was creamy with the perfect amount of sweetness. It had a very natural pistachio taste and didn't skew artificial at all. They also offer an array of pastries! There is a list of the names of all the pastries with a brief description of what to expect at the cash register which was a lovely accessible touch. The cashier was kind and took her time in explaining different drinks to us. Overall, Qawah House is a must visit if you're into coffee or are looking for a quiet place to relax with a good beverage or enjoy some company.

One of the few places that open late (till midnight - 2025). They had a wide selection of coffee and teas. They serve flavorful coffee or tea in pots. It's a great atmosphere for a sitting down to chat or to do work

Stopped by here for coffee and a pastry for breakfast. I ordered a hot pistachio latte. I've never had anything like it! It was creamy and nutty. So good. I also got the khaliat alnahl. It was good but was a little disappointed because it didn't taste as fresh as I thought it would be. Overall the cafe is really nice and spacious with a cozy vibe.

Unfortunately, there wasn't even a changing table available. Instead, I was stopped and loudly reprimanded by a large, intimidating male employee in front of a line full of customers because I had apparently "used the wrong door" and "skipped the line." When I explained that I needed to use the restroom before ordering, I was told I should have used the other entrance -- despite the fact that the door I was directed toward had a clearly posted sign saying "Please Use Other Door." The entire interaction was humiliating and completely unnecessary. No customer, especially a mother carrying a baby, should be publicly shamed over something so minor and confusing. To make matters worse, the bathroom itself was filthy. Even if I had attempted to change my daughter on the floor due to the lack of a changing station, it would have felt unsanitary and unsafe. Businesses love to say they support women and families, but too often mothers are treated like an inconvenience the moment they actually need basic accommodation and decency.

It's definitely a local spot and there was a small line when we arrived around 9:30ish, but it moved relatively quickly and we ordered an oatmilk latte, brown sugar cardamom oatmilk latte, and vegan burrito. The weather was nice, so we found outdoor seating and our drinks/food came out within 10mins. Overall, not our favorite cup of coffee in the area - but still good and very-well priced! The burrito was yummy too - I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for a relaxed, no-fuss spot :)

They roast single origin coffees onsite and sell them in completely biodegradable pods, which only stay on their shelves for up to 30 days so the coffee always tastes super fresh. They are not like other biodegradable pods you may see for sale elsewhere, these actually ensure you get a fantastic cup of coffee each time. I started talking to the baristas, Lisa and Anastasia, and shared that I used to work for Starbucks and was amazed how the same coffee could taste completely different if it was prepared differently. Lisa promptly took out two bags of coffee and prepared a pour over of each. They were the same beans, but roasted at different temperatures. She gave tastes to me and another customer. It was amazing how different the coffees tasted, and they even had different colors. It was such a cool experience! I bought a box of Columbia medium roast pods, which I've been enjoying every day this week. They have several coffees available to try, along with pastries and made to order sandwiches. It's located in an industrial area, off the main road, but is well worth the trip if you're looking for some delicious coffee. It's become my go to coffee roaster in the Richmond area.

So much to love about this new discovery besides the fact that it's NOT a Starbucks lol and for those that know me, you know I love and love to support and discover tucked away indie coffee places (see my reviews!). This place is also a roastery and sells their own bean blends. I don't know the history behind the shop and name but was told it is chemistry themed and owned by W&M alum - yassssss! Service is SUPER friendly and excellent so that's a bonus! I lovvvvvvve that the latte menu is chock full of super creative seasonal flavors - so many to choose from!! I stopped by twice while in town and staying just down the street. Had a hot Rose Macaron latte and the next day had the Lemon Bar. Both were DELICIOUS. Both days I had the OG Bacon Egg Cheese sando on an ET bagel that was a decent accompaniment to my seasonal lattes which were clearly the stars of the show. I was there during the week - once mid afternoon, the other day late morning and it was not crowded at all both days. The seating area is HUGE. 2 separate adjacent rooms - walk through the front ordering area and you'll find a large, super cozy and inviting "living room" type space with comfy couches, armchairs, dining tables with chairs and even cubes for studying. Dark and moody vibes. SUPER COZY, RELAXING AND KEPT VERY CLEAN AND TIDY. The other seating area has a bunch of tables and chairs, lots of windows, brighter and more conducive for gathering. I took and posted a bunch of pics and some vids so check them out. So glad to have discovered this coffee spot and gem! Will definitely be back when I visit Williamsburg again! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
