I came to Dr. Zemplenyi for under-chin liposuction. If you are on the fence but insecure about your appearance, you should contact him for a consultation. I am so glad I got to have this done. I am a woman who is just shy of 30 years old and have recently lost about 45 pounds, but had a stubborn double-chin. It was something that had bothered me since I was 10 years old, whether I was overweight or not. The first doctor I contacted (not Dr. Zemplenyi) said I should get submentalplasty -- that was a little too much of a production for me. Dr. Zemplenyi kept it simple and conservative and said I should do lipo first, but that I might have to come back if he didn't take enough off. I appreciated that Dr. Zemplenyi didn't push me to go for a bigger (and more expensive) procedure, but still informed me about the options. He also was the only one to tell me about potential risks - which luckily didn't happen to me - while the other doctor didn't say anything about that. So I also appreciated that he was honest. Dr. Zemplenyi is a quirky guy and he knows it, but I appreciated that he looked at my chin as if he were an artist. Every person's face is different and I felt like he was really trying to get the best result possible for MY face. PROCEDURE Ok so like I said, I had under-chin lipo. I chose to do it under what I think was mild sedation. I had painkillers but I was still awake. I remember him doing the procedure, but I felt calm. I didn't feel pain. I felt pressure and movement. Recovery was more involved than I thought it would be. It hurt. There was a fair amount of swelling but not a lot of bruising. I got this done on a Thursday, and took Friday and Monday off of work. I worked from home until the following Thursday. Be prepared to take it easy. I should also note that I don't respond well to opioids so I stuck with Tylenol and it was enough for me to keep it manageable. RESULTS I am SO HAPPY with my results. The sheer brain space I have freed up now that I no longer worry about my double-chin? Amazing. If you are on the fence, contact him for a consultation. It was less expensive than I was expecting and about half the price of the submentalplasty the other doctor suggested. Recently visited this doctor for treatment. Not surgery. Doctor give you price of service as it is goes. There is no clear price list, just his estimate that keeps changing. There is no invoice with list of service provided . He started treatment at first appointment but did not cover all areas, missing significant area. When I come back for follow up appointment, he refused to finish until I pay extra claiming he underestimated the treatment. First, with his experience, it is hard to believe in this. Sec, it is inappropriate business practice to charge price after you started to provide service and stop on the middle just because you changed your mind. It is really shame. Dr. Z is truly an expert in his field. After speaking with him, I trust him 100%. What intrigued me to consult with him was his background in ENT. He sets realistic expectations and explains everything very thoroughly and meticulously. My case is very complex and he was able to figure it out. Here it is about 4 years later and my otoplasty is as natural and sculpted as day 1. Dr Z is simply the best! I recently went back to Dr Z for an unrelated procedure, and was so impressed by the experience I came back to Yelp to leave a follow-up review. My second 'round' was every bit as pleasant as the first. His staff is super accommodating, very funny and really help you feel at ease with the level of professionalism they provide. And of course, Dr. Z again was very down-to-earth, accommodating and provided amazing, natural results. I hate to report my negative experience. Here it is...I was referred by a friend, also a doctor, a retired surgeon. I began the process of planning a face lift and had a couple in person appointments and numerous personal calls. I was led to believe the cost would be between $15,000 and up to $18,000. I was told this more than a few times. This was discussed enough times to be trusted. I made a final appointment and asked about charges again I was given deceptive type answers, vague, and told the estimate would be emailed to me. I was ready to go ! I called inquiring about a neck lift and due to the fact I live in Olympia, the doctor was willing to look at pictures and agreed he could help me. I went in for the consultation and found Dr. Z to be charming and genuine. I went through with the surgery and am absolutely delighted with the results. The office staff was very responsive to calls and emails and I never had to wait more than a few minutes. In fact, twice he took me right back and saw me ahead of my appointed time because he happened to have time. He called me personally prior to my surgery to ensure that all my questions were answered and called me again after my surgery to "check on his patient"! He had to do very small-scale sewing under my tongue, and the quality of his work was exquisite. I think this guy could tailor a tuxedo for a mouse. Tummy tuck with abdominal liposuction 09/2018 As someone who has a fear of doctors, I never thought I would learn to admire a plastic surgeon, and I can tell you Dr. Z is a cut above the rest. Every encounter I have had with Dr. Z has been positive, informing and professional. I've consulted at a few of the major Eastside plastic surgery clinics, and the difference with Dr. Z is that he will be the ONLY person you deal with(aside for the front desk staff, who are also lovely). Now that I am 4 months post-op, I feel like I have learned a lot about this process and want to give you a few thoughts to consider when shopping for your plastic surgery clinic: 1. Who did you consult with? Was it a sales person or the plastic surgeon?Who quoted you the price for the procedure? Again, was it a salesperson or the plastic surgeon? If your answer to any of these questions is NOT the plastic surgeon, you need to reconsider your surgeon. There is Little worse in this world for me than taking time out of my day to consult with a plastic surgeon, for a procedure that will cost about the same as an inexpensive car, only to consult with someone dressed like a street walker who has no medical background or expertise to recommend procedures. If this happens to you when you go for your consultation - WALK OUT! 2. At your consultation, assuming it was with the plastic surgeon per #1, did they thoroughly explain their recommendations, or better yet - why they DID NOT recommend other procedures? I have consulted with Dr. Z for a few procedures and he used these consultations as teaching moments, thoroughly explaining what my best options are. I believe my consultation for my tummy tuck was around an hour long, and Dr. Z did a marvelous job of turning his thorough medical background into laymen's terms for me to understand what he was saying - if someone knows what they are talking about, they can break down complex ideas into simple terms anyone can understand. 3. Does your plastic surgeon own their OR? If not, whose OR are you renting from? Who is the anesthesiologist? What assurances do you have that the plastic surgeon you are consulting with is the person who will be performing the procedure? Dr. Z owns his own OR, he checked me into my surgery(literally his nurses stood there while he did all the work lol) and I met the anesthesiologist in person before the procedure. 4. OF EVERYTHING I TELL YOU TO CONSIDER, THIS MAY BE THE MOST IMPORTANT - once the procedure is over, who do you call at 3 am when you fear an emergency? Do you have the plastic surgeons cell number or do you speak with a secretary? THIS IS CRITICAL - MAKE SURE YOUR DOC IS THERE FOR YOU WHEN YOU NEED THEM!!! Very common for plastic surgeons to 'filter' emergency calls through secretaries. Dr. Z was there at all hours if we had a question or concern, he actively corresponded with my partner during my recovery and was ALWAYS professional. Dr Z fixed my deviated septum and cut back my turbinates to alleviate some aggressive congestion. He and his staff were thoughtful and considerate through the process. A few days after the surgery I was really struggling with congestion and heavy drainage. I was really uncomfortable. Dr Z came in on a holiday weekend to take a look, clean out some "debris" and update a prescription for me. The results now that I've healed are amazing. This review is long overdue. The good Dr. removed a mole on my face, even though I said that I would rather have a mole than a scar, so if he thought it would leave a scar NOT to do it. He numbed me up, and cut it off with a razor of some type. He showed me the mole, said he "didn't think it was cancerous", and flicked it into the wastebasket. I asked for a mirror, and was horrified at the very large divot in my face. He said "Don't worry, your such a pretty girl" in a very condescending tone. He did not offer to put in a stitch or anything. I have a a very noticeable scar. I cannot say what I think of him, in any language, for no one would print it.. Go elsewhere. read more

Second, how did someone outside the doctor's office get information about whether the doctor actually treated me medically or not? If you have been told so by the doctor's office, the doctor's office is liable for violation of my medical privacy. If you have not been told so, your argument against my review is questioning the reality of my personal experience. How would you like me to question yours? You don't get to do that! Yelp is meant for people to be aware of the negatives along with the positives of any business. Why are you trying to censor away the negatives? People should be aware of them! I went to him for a botox procedure - and not only did he overcharge me, he conducted the procedure incorrectly. At the follow up visit, he became mean and cranky with ME, stating he tried to do his best and sometimes "it doesn't come out the way you want it to." So it was a waste of about $1000! I had to go to another doctor to get it done right. And the other doctor was incredulous when I explained the botox technique that Dr. Zemplanyi used with me. The whole procedure and my recovery went very smoothly, with no complications. It's early on in my recovery, and my swelling is almost all gone. My name is Newton, and I have gone to Dr. Zemplenyi since 2007 for all my cosmetic needs. I also practice in the medical arena, and from my vast experience and interactions with other cosmetic surgeons, "Dr. Z." is really a shining star. The reason I say this is because he shows a genuine interest in patient care, which I believe, needs to be most important for the practitioner. Dr. Z. definitely puts patient care and safety at the top of his list. An example of this is in 2008, I wanted Dr. Z. to perform a cosmetic surgical procedure on me, but Dr. Z. didn't think I needed to do the surgery because "you look fine." He was genuine and honest and told me he didn't want me to waste my money because I looked fine. He could have just done the surgery and taken my money as would many plastic surgeons would do. I have had countless experiences with different cosmetic surgeons, and I recommend Dr. Z. out of all of them. I don't really understand why there are some awful reviews about this man, and I am very hesitant to believe any of them, because with my experience with him, I have only yielded positive results. If you are looking for a surgeon/physician who doesn't want to get to know you-- doesn't care who you are as a person-- only wants your money-- doesn't provide much education about procedures and diagnoses-- and spends very little time with you, DON'T go to Dr. Zemplenyi. But if you want a surgeon/physician who genuinely cares for you, doesn't just want your money but wants to see you satisfied-- provides sufficient and detailed information about procedures and diagnoses AND makes sure you understand-- and spends appropriate amounts of time with you to be sure that you are comfortable, GO to Dr. Zemplenyi. I'm not sure why my review was filtered, and so I've re-written this and am happy and willing to provide verification of the facts- I have all of the invoices from services provided to me. I also have pics of my progress, I can provide any of this to verify validity. It would be a real disservice to Yelpers like myself who refer to these admissions, trying to make informed decisions... we need this kind of crucial information to assist with that process. I've had first hand experience with this doctor and would like to share it with anyone considering seeing him- 1. Dr. Z performed a subcision on my forehead where I have scarring, he did an excellent job and charged $350. A doctor just down the street from him (Dr. Young) performed the same procedure a year beforehand with good results (except i was left with very subtle vertical lines that have taken nearly 15 mos. to fade) and he charged me $2,150. For the same procedure. 2. Dr. Z is one of the only doctors I have found in Washington state who works with silica1000 for scars. This is in my opinion the best solution, is permanent, and my scars are nearly gone as a result of the combination of silica and artefil. Other doctors I've consulted with use semi permanent fillers such as Juvaderm which has a donut-ing effect in my experience (thank god it Doesn't last). 3. Dr. Z was also able to close an enlarged pore I've had for years. Several other doctors I asked said its not possible. Well, thanks to this fine doctor it is Gone! I went in a while back for a liposuction consult fully expecting to sign up. After talking to me for a while Dr. Z explained that he thought I would get a better result and be happier if I lost some weight first and had the lipo later so that he could concentrate on the areas that were still a problem. That was not really what I wanted to hear but he and the staff were so supportive that I did wait and I did lose the weight. I can't even express how happy I am with the result. I saw Dr. Zemplenyi back in July 2012 for a consultation on an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Like many women who have had children, I had difficulty getting rid of the lax skin on my stomach from pregnancy/childbirth. Dr Z was the third doctor who I visited for a consultation. The other two were very detached and clinical in their treatment of me, seeing me as a job attached to a dollar sign (or at least that was the way it felt at the time). They weren't bad, but they didn't make me feel reassured. On the other hand, Dr. Z was incredibly warm and caring. His office staff was wonderfully friendly, and they made me feel welcome. From the moment I walked in, I knew that was the place I wanted to get my tummy tuck done. I walked into Dr. Z's office with a list of complications (scar from previous surgery and small umbilical hernia) and he went above and beyond to make sure that I knew all the risks, every possibility, and how things would go and how it would look afterward. He sent me, free of charge, to another surgeon friend of his to check the umbilical hernia and ensure there would be no complications. He made sure that I was well-educated about the process and any possible complications and problems. The surgery went perfectly. Dr. Z made sure to call me that evening to check on me, and made himself available by phone for any questions or concerns that I had. He went above and beyond to help me, and was very kind and caring through the entire process. I have had nothing but an incredible experience with Dr. Z, and I would absolutely recommend him to my friends. If only my family doctor could be as warm and caring as Dr. Z... It's been a few months since, and my stomach looks amazing. My workout partners compliment me on it, and they're shocked to hear that it's thanks to Dr. Z's work, because it looks great, and the scars are barely visible. Visited Dr. Zemplenyi few times over the last five years and last year decided to jump in and do a surgery (widening turbinates) . So far everything works just fine! Didn't have any complications at all, not even worsening of allergies as some friends suggested I will have. Dr. Jan is courteous and friendly and ready to answer all questions. His staff is very polite and helpful. I wanted him to schedule a surgery for mid-day but they still scheduled it for 7am which, in hindsight, was indeed a better choice, given the horrible traffic around Bellevue. Also, it was rather puzzling to see him using the software from CT lab so he could see my scan -- I could figure it out either :) The software looked like it was created in year 1999! I believe the lab (which is next door) should upgrade its software right now. Overall, I'm happy that I found Dr. Zemplenyi. I've seen few others before him but from now on he always will be my otolaryngologist. And I always recommend him to all my friends. read more

Dr. Z did several ear surgeries on me when I was younger. It was always a pleasant experience and he and his staff even made sure the 12 year old me understood exactly what the procedures would entail, as well as providing great follow up care for years as I had many ear infections as a kid - luckily I grew out of them.
