Was searching for brunch spot to catch up with a girlfriend and Jane hits the spot! Cute house turned restaurant in Highland Park, offers ample of seating inside and a handful of tables out front if you can deal with the summer heat. As mentioned before, no private lot but plenty of street parking available. We actually opted for lunch even though Jane seems to be known for their brunch options. Ordered the steak sandwich and BBQ salad to share and portions were more than enough to split. Steak sandwich was not too heavy to weigh you down the rest of the day with the light chimmichuri sauce. It comes with a side house salad and what seems to be coleslaw. BBQ salad with average, nothing special. Ordered the mint lemonade to wash it all down which proved to be a refreshing hit. Probably would have given it 5 stars if I had ordered the brunch option but for lunch it would only earn 4. All in all Jane gets points for the ambiance as a cute spot to catch up with friends. I was excited to try this place and love the vibe. It is an old house converted to a restaurant. The signage is cute and the yellow painted exterior is inviting. I had passed it many times and finally went after being intrigued for a while. I tried the French toast and my friend had an omelette. I enjoyed the meal, but it wasn't anything life changing. I didn't regret going (sometimes I feel sad after having a bad meal that I wasted it when I could've had good food lol), but there are so many other good places nearby that I'm not sure I'll return. With the way Highland Park is changing there are so many amazing options so if I went here it may feel like settling. Almost a year to the day I returned with hubby and dog. Sunday breakfast fabulous. Jane's omelet with tons of filling and fresh fruit, unbelievably good potatoes with fresh herbs, and the fluffy pancakes and perfectly scrambled eggs. Bacon thick and dog approved. Only two things keep this place from a 5 and they are the same things I mentioned in my first review. Outside tables not bussed quickly and are sticky. Menioned and they never did clean the table. Also the coffee wan't any good. I have had similar tasting coffee at Amara and the Highland Cafe. Not sure if they all use the same, but earthy and needed cream. Note: I'm not a coffee drinker, so my review does not include that... which does seem to be their forte. That said, I did enjoy the breakfast and atmosphere. For some reason, I assumed it was table service, but it is counter service. Got the basic 2x2x2: pancakes, eggs (got mine with whites), bacon, potatoes. At first, pancakes didn't seem too flavorful, but improved as the butter melted into them (I'm also not a syrup guy, so I have no opinion on that... I know, I'm unusual). Bacon was great, eggs were fine. Potatoes were too overcooked for me, and not very flavorful. It was a pity, because they looked like they should be amazing, but I didn't care for them. Five stars for the frenchtoast alone! Damn that was the best frenchtoast we have ever had, the bread was distinctly chewy and perfect, thought it would be cinnamon overkill but it was great and THAT LEMON(ish) CREAM!!!! Had to ask for extra because it was so extra! hahaha! I honestly thought it would be another mediocre hipster spot in highland park but I'm glad we gave it a shot and found ourselves extremely satisfied. was in highland park for a yoga class and decided to meet a friend here for brunch on a saturday. she was already seated outside when i got there, so no comment on the wait time. parking however, and if you read my reviews, you'll know parking is almost always included, was atrocious. typical of LA, best of luck trying to find street parking. i circled the block about 5 times before i found a spot. ANYWAYS, moving on to Jane itself. super cute decor. we happened to visit when they were celebrating their one year birthday (congrats!) so they had cute balloons up and most importantly FREE BAGS. YAASSS!! onto the food - the two of us shared the chorizo huevos rancheros, classic french toast, and a side of pancakes. everything was pretty good, but nothing stand out, y'know? pretty typical brunch fare. the place is still fairly new so maybe they'll grow but service is pretty lacking here. no one checked up on us if we needed anything, we had to go inside to get the check and boxes. sitting outside is not recommended as there are flies galore!! and to my knowledge, there are no fly zappers or anything to mitigate the issue. we spent half the time waving away flies. a solid brunch spot if you're in the neighborhood but i wouldn't drive out of my way. read more

I was in the area and wanted to try a local breakfast place. The place looked like it was a home turned into a restaurant, with white walls and wooden tables, which was pretty hipster, but very cute. You pay and order at the front, and are given a number. We ordered the Jane's omelette, eggs Benedict, and cold brews, all of which were disappointing. The Janes Omlette was supposed to have bacon, which it did not. It also had a weird sweet taste to it, which I tried to drown in tapatio, but to no avail. The eggs Benedict was plain and drowning in hollandaise sauce, as if to try to make up for the lack of flavor. The last thing that this place lost us on was the cold brew coffee. It was the most acidic thing ever. We tried adding milk and sugar to help mask it, but nothing worked and we considered it a lost cause. In terms of ambiance and setting, this place rocks. You can sit out on the "porch" and bring your dogs, but their food, coffee, nay, menu, needs some serious revamping. read more

Very nice and cozy cafe. Makes one feel like home when looking from the outside but actually quite roomy when you go into the shop. Service was very nice and quick even for a typical morning. Got something very simple, the 2x2x2 and a latte just to get a basic idea of the food. The morning potatoes were quite amazing. Everything else were just as expected from most breakfast places. Tip for when you are a first timer. The cafe actually looks like a regular house within businesses, and can be easily missed. Had to drive around the block 3 times to find it. Jane is a semi cute restaurant for the area but every time we've come in, there has been something that bothers us. First, it was rude staff. Then it was bad spotty internet. And today it was no internet at all, the whole reason we came in. But there were no signs saying they didn't have WiFi, so we didn't find out until we had already paid and tried to open up our computers. This was my first time visiting Jane. I was really looking forward to it. However, my first interaction with the girl taking orders was off putting. She was not friendly, not helpful, and did not say thanks you when she handed me my number. I don't think I'm being picky here, just didn't get a warm feeling, as the house setting suggests. Why should I be nicer than the girl whose job it is to be friendly?! I mean, I don't need my butt kissed, just simple thank you. The food we ordered was mediocre. I ordered the 2x2x2, which is 2 eggs, 2 bacon and 2 pancakes, along with some big, hard, unflavored potatoes. I requested my bacon crispy, and the "friendly" employee said, "It already comes kind of crispy." (Which it doesn't, so make sure if you want crispy bacon, they make note of it.) The pancakes were bland, Betty Crocker is better. My friend ordered the BLAT sandwich, which lacked bacon. There were only two or three strips on the sandwich, all of which were in the middle. The other staff was not so friendly either. I asked for a cup of ice to add to my warm water that they display, and he seemed upset that I bothered him. I said thank you, and he just turned his back. Okay, thanks again! I will try this place one more time, and definitely order something else. However, if the service is the same, I won't come back for good. read more

This is a great classic brunch spot! Totally did not expect such a hip, comforting spot in Echo Park tucked amongst other houses. The restaurant is a house converted to a restaurant. We just missed the crowd that started to line up. There are umbrellas and chairs where people sat outside.. interesting concept. Like your friends eating outside on your lawn. The inside is quite airy and has minimalistic decor - great for catching up with friends or just reading the newspaper/book. Food came out fast and I had the eggs Benedict. It tasted exactly like how it should taste. I liked that the potatoes that came with it was extra crunchy. It was pretty big portion and I enjoyed the fact that it didn't have a crazy wait like other brunch spots on a Sunday. I would come back! read more

This is such a cute lil gem in Highland Park! Kinda random that it's in a house but I feel like they executed the space well and the natural lighting really is pretty. I'll start with the good. Their breakfast potatoes were nicely seasoned and cooked just right -- crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. That's about it. Aside from the pleasant-to-gaze-upon gentrified Highland Park flipped house aesthetic (you know -- white walls, exposed wood grain, subway tiles, etc) and the potatoes, there were no other redeeming qualities for me. For starters, they have an inexplicably strict "no substitutions" policy. When my boyfriend asked for a side salad or something instead of potatoes, they held fast to their policy. Please. This is not a Michelin star restaurant. Your dishes are not "delicately balanced." We want eggs and greens instead of eggs and potatoes. If it's so much trouble, you can do it for a standard upcharge of a dollar like every other coffee shop in L.A. That wasn't a huge issue though. What really ruffled our feathers is that they don't refill your coffee for free. A cup of regular coffee is $3.00, and each refill is $1.00. Thanks, but no thanks. That's my breaking point. I'll go to any other coffee shop before I come back here again, simply because that demonstrated to me that they're more interested in making a buck than building a happy and returning clientele. Been here for both breakfast and lunch and the food is consistently good. They give good sized portions, too. For breakfast I had the spinach omelet which was good but needed more chicken sausage, you could barely taste it in there. My husband has the chorizo huevos rancheros-I tried it, it was absolutely delicious and was a large portion! For lunch I get the Cobb salad-really fresh ingredients and a good amount of chicken on it. The lettuce is always green romaine vs the iceberg that a lot of Cobb salads seem to serve, so definitely better than most! Grateful for this place during quarantine! I miss the cute inside but they've got a good social distance ordering system and I love the patio with the tables spread out. Everything is made "to-go" but if there's an open table you can stay and eat in the front yard. One of the only breakfast/coffee places I know around with nice outdoor seating options!
