Pies and cakes at Jane's Bakery in Tiburon
    Rachel H.

Twice as nice, Jane at the Cove has taken over and expanded the original Sweet Things space, leaving some favorite treats, increasing its bakery offerings and doubling its store footprint. You'll still find a lot of their "old school" Sweet Things original baked goods, alongside new breads and treats. Jane's is relatively close to the freeway, so worth a venture if your sweet tooth is calling. Today I needed a cafe with internet access but with actually good desserts (no thanks Starbucks) and solid tea and espresso drinks, so I came to Jane's and grabbed a lemon blueberry slice, an oat milk chai, and got some work done. I found my cake chilled and needing time to sit out and soften, but although not the perfect temperature, it was moist, sweet and flavorful. The new remodel at Jane's bakery has modernized the original space, but left some of the qualities and desserts that made the former Sweet Things sweet and nostalgic.

This is one of those bakeries you cannot pass up! In the parking lot by Nugget Market, but skip Nugget and come here for delightful sweet things. The variety of cakes, pastries cookies, and more will make your mouth water eyeing the beautifully made things in the counter displays. Just plain YUM! I got an assortment of cookies, boxed exquisitely, to take to a friend for an after lunch treat and they were absolutely delicious. Do not miss this small piece of bakery heaven!

They taste delicious, this pic doesn't do it justice.

Good selection, but not the highest quality and WAY overpriced.

my only complaint is that they are pretty pricey, but their cupcakes and cookies are so delicious that it's worth it (once in a while).

And of course the best coffee drinks that come to mind. Mom decided on a piece of quiche and poppy seed lemon cake while I chose the breakfast burrito and the peanut butter and chocolate bar. We both found our choices to be uniquely delicious and filling. And it turned out my brother had purchased earlier in the week the specialty desserts as surprise treats for us to enjoy later. The coffee was strong, the food tasty, and the cafe atmosphere neighborhood friendly, so all in all a good experience for both locals and visitors alike.

When I went back after leaving, they swapped the scone for the muffin but was surprised to watch them put the scone right back on display after I left and came back with it (seems like a questionable food hygiene choice). They did microwave the quiche for me... surprised they didn't have some for of oven. Honestly, none of it was good and after picking at it I threw most of the $22 order in the trash. An expensive waste of money. Additionally, they were calling someone a "puta" (a vulgar insult for a b*** or wh***) directly in front of me. Like just because I'm not Latino doesn't mean I can't speak Spanish. Very poor customer experience with immature / unprofessional staff. The ambience is similar to any other cafe.

I come here at least once a week on a bike ride and I have a wonderful time without fail. Sit and look at the water, talk to the man behind the counter. He always has a fun quip to start the day. I ordered the giant cinnamon roll and a large oatmeal cookie to take on the road. Unfortunately, neither lived up to my expectations. The cinnamon roll was more like plain bread with very little cinnamon flavor or frosting, and the oatmeal cookie tasted more like flour than oats or spices. As an SF native who's tried a lot of great bakeries, this one just didn't stand out. I really wanted to love it because the setting is so relaxing and beautiful, but the baked goods fell short for me.

It's been a little over a year since my first time trying B&C, and things have definitely changed…read moresince then--in a good way! I definitely feel like the team implementing the 7:45AM start time to line up has helped a lot. Not only is it better for the neighbors, but it also makes the whole experience feel a lot less chaotic compared to showing up super early and scrambling to get in line. Everything feels much calmer and organized now. As for the pastries: To be honest, it really depends on what you like. I'm one that gravitates towards pretty much anything with meat and chocolate. Because of that, most of their savory/meaty and creamy pastries are always a must for me. They're super flaky, flavorful and decadent. You can really tell how much time and effort they put into making everything as high quality as possible, especially since you can see them making everything from the window while waiting in line. All in all, I think there's been a lot of improvement over the past year with some trial and error. Their pastries have always been delicious and I personally think it's worth the wait. I recommend getting to the area closer to 7:45AM so you have a better chance of being towards the front of the line. If not, it's still better to come before opening, I just wouldn't recommend getting there right before they open. By then it's not guaranteed that you'll get everything you want since they do run out depending on how many people are there.

Their Hotplate drop every Tuesday at 12PM is literally a war zone, reminding me of trying to get VIP concert tickets on Ticketmaster. And sadly, I haven't been able to score another box since then but oh well, at least I won once lol. I came during my pickup window and there was already a line out the door, maybe 10-12 people. I've heard it can wrap around the block, so honestly this wasn't too bad. The bakery itself in this adorable white and pink building, with cute window details, and neon cake sign. Pre-orders can skip the line, so I went straight inside to collect my little box of victory. My small box came with four pastries: Twice Baked Bourbon Peaches & Cream, Cheesy Ratatouille, Mocha Graham Butterscotch Cruffin, and Strawberry Vanilla Bun. And I gotta be honest, I loved them ALL. The Bourbon Peaches & Cream was heavenly. The pastry was perfectly buttery and flaky, while the cream and filling were rich and smooth. Easily one of my favorites. I'm normally not a cheesy vegetable savory pastry person, but I had to try the Cheesy Ratatouille for the plot lol, and surprisingly it was delicious. The veggies were cooked just right and the combination of cheeses was phenomenal. Strawberry Vanilla Bun was a classic that couldn't go wrong, fresh strawberries, delicious cream, simple and so good. Sadly, I saved the Mocha Graham Butterscotch Cruffin for the next day and all that generous filling made it pretty soggy. It still tasted good, but the cruffin had lost that crispy, flaky texture. That's on me though, so I definitely need a redemption round in the future. Overall, Butter & Crumble is absolutely worth the hype AND the Tuesday 12PM battle. Hopefully one day I can win the war again because there are so many other pastries I still want to try!

I went to try to get a slice of their Chocolate Truffle cake, but since they were sold out by Sunday afternoon, I opted for their version of a hostess cupcake, and their butter cookies with chocolate icing blossoms. ------ FOOD: Hostess Cupcake (3.5/5) I personally found the cupcake to be a bit dry and the whipped cream to be too airy. The chocolate ganache topping on the cupcake was fantastic though, but wasn't enough to save this dessert. Butter cookies with Chocolate Icing (3/5) It wasn't bad but the butter cookie wasn't as rich and melt-in-your mouth as I would have liked. The chocolate icing was a bit too sweet and didn't have a deep chocolate flavor. I'm sure there are some delicious treats here as well that I'll need to try eventually if I'm ever in the area. ------ SERVICE: I spoke with a lady on the phone who was very kind and helpful, but the gentleman at the counter unfortunately wasn't able to provide any recommendations and couldn't manage the line well. The lady on the phone also told me they had the chocolate cake available which is the only reason why we drove out of our way to come here. ------ ENVIRONMENT: There are a few tables inside, outside, and nearby if you'd like to enjoy your treats nearby.
